In April of 2023 a dog had been found shot leaving him paralyzed in his hind end. A South Texas rescue stepped up for him, vetted him and bought him wheels. He went by the name of Butters. To their delight at the time, The Special Needs Animal Welfare League in Chandler, Arizona reached out and offered to take him under their wing and find him a home. The transfer was made. After a few months of ongoing sketchiness and lack of communication between Becca and SNAWL's elusive founder, “Samantha Taylor”, Becca and her wife jumped in the car to go and get Butters back. As soon as they arrived, Becca knew her suspicions were correct. Butters was being held captive in a hell unlike anything she'd ever seen. This week on A Pawdcast tune in to hear Becca's story of how she did not - would not - give up the fight to get her dog back. Even when law enforcement would do nothing to help. Watch and listen as she tells how months of detective work, combined with a relentless team of badass humans and a social media inspired army resulted in bringing down what has been dubbed “The House of Horrors”, leading to the rescue of Butters and the #Chandler55 .It turns out that the name “Samantha Taylor” was just one of many aliases used by the woman we now know as animal abuser April McLaughlin. McLaughlin has scammed over 30 rescues and at the time was hoarding over 60 special needs dogs in her 950 square foot home. Some of them did not survive. She since has been indicted by a grand jury on 24 counts of animal cruelty, 77 misdemeanor charges, failure to provide medical treatment to an animal and is currently behind bars awaiting to stand trial. Butters saved all the dogs. It's time his story was told. We are excited to welcome Becca Chavez from Yaqui Animal Rescue, Shira Scott Astrof from the Animal Rescue Mission, Jenny Amuchastegui and Kimberly Elliott from the Be Like Josh Foundation and Koco Garcia from Handover Rover to A Pawdcast. This is Part 3 in the #Chandler55 ongoing series. An untold amount of Mecklenburg County speeding cases could be called into question due to revelations about Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's radar and lidar calibration practices. The Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office said it learned of the concerns on Tuesday, noting that equipment used to frequently track drivers' speeds have to be tested and certified by a Federal Communications Commission-certified person, per state law.A statement from the office says, while CMPD equipment was tested, testing was not completed by an appropriately certified employee. CMPD said technicians who were experienced and followed the manufacturer's instructions -- but were not FCC-certified -- were responsible for 170 of the department's 230 devices. Are you ready to finally have more time for your family and for yourself? In this episode of Private Practice Success Stories, I sat down with Samantha Taylor to talk about how she started her private practice as a way to get more balance in her life to have more time to focus on her son and create advocacy for other children like him. Samantha is the owner of Olive Speech Therapy located in Rochester, New York. She, along with her husband, have two incredible, creative, and fun-loving boys. Back in 2009, she received a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with the dream of becoming a journalist. During that time, she welcomed her first son and his bilateral profound sensorineural hearing loss. Needless to say, she had to quickly re-evaluate what she actually wanted to do with her life as both a mother of a Deaf child and as a professional. It was through her son and his early journey that she learned about the amazing world of speech pathology and how remarkable it could be not only for the child but the family, as well. She wanted to offer that knowledge and guidance, as well as be a shoulder to cry on and be a person to celebrate the milestones and progress with. When her son was a year and a half old, she took what felt like a leap of faith, and applied for Ithaca College's Speech-Language Pathology Master's Program and was accepted. She has worked as a pediatric SLP in a variety of settings since May 2013. In 2021, she took a (second) leap of faith and stepped into what was once just a far-off dream by opening up her own private practice. Through her experiences as not only a mother of a child who receives related services but also as a related service provider, she has learned so much about what it means to advocate for her own child and the children of others. She has learned the value of providing a safe space for people to express their fears, hopes, and dreams for their children without judgment. She has learned the importance of connecting with people not only as a professional but as a human being. In Today's Episode, We Discuss:How Samantha got started with her private practiceHow she built her first websiteWhy Samantha focuses on advocacyA typical day as a private practitioner The importance of being able to slow downWhy private practice can help prevent burnoutWhat's next for Samantha's private practiceWhen it's time to make your first hireI hope you loved this conversation with Samantha. I love how she created her private practice with balance in mind so that she has enough time for her family and herself too. SLPs and OTs are so giving. But when you give everything you have to others all the time, you burn out. Starting a private practice makes it easy for you add in time for the self-care that you need.If you want to learn more from Samantha, make sure to visit her website and follow her on Instagram. Nathalie Dowgray speaks with Ilona Rodan, Kelly St. Denis, Samantha Taylor, and Sarah Heath - all contributors to the new guidelines. We share some of the positive impacts that we've seen and how attitudes have changed in the 10 years since ISFM and AAFP launched the original guidelines - the cat friendly clinic programme and the cat friendly practice programme. We discuss reasons for updating the title of the guidelines and why we need to move away from negative terms like “angry” or “aggressive” when approaching cats in the consulting room. We explain some of the terminologies that we use in the guidelines and why it's important for vets to recognise emotions and understand cats on a deeper level. We also talk about how you can create a welcoming environment for cats, whether you work in mixed practice or cat-only clinics and the benefits of working in a cat friendly way. Today we are covering possibly the most well known Lesbian novel of all time, The Well of Loneliness by Radclyffe Hall. This episode was previously scheduled to drop during Lesbian Visibility week which runs the 20th-26th of April. Ending with the original Lesbian Day of Visibility on April 26th. Which, coincidentally is when Evan married his favorite Lesbian, Samantha Taylor. So though we’re a little late, today we are spreading awareness and visibility of lesbians all around the world. And there is no better way to do so than to use the first, modern, instrument used to bring widespread visibility to Lesbians. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/yourqueerstory/message

The webinar was presented on 3 July 2018 by Chris Jones, Niko Limans, Samantha Taylor, Dr Miranda Blogg and John Wall.
A series of coordinated bomb threats at Jewish Community Centers (JCCs) across the United States have threatened children, many of them preschoolers, and their parents, causing repeated evacuations and creating a sense of anxiety some are finding hard to shake. The FBI is investigating at least 54 bomb threats at JCCs in 27 states, with 11 new threats called in Monday, February 6th. Over the weekend, gravesites at a Jewish cemetery in University City, Missouri, were vandalized. One JCC in Birmingham, Alabama, has been forced to evacuate its school and preschool twice in the past month. "If the intention was to scare us, these bomb threats have failed," David Posner of the Jewish Community Center Association told NBC News. Some parents, however, are certainly shaken by the continued threatened violence against their children. The threats started January 9, when the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA) reported 16 JCCs in the Northeast and Southeast received recorded messages threatening them with bombs. A second round occurred at 30 JCCs across 17 states on January 18. On January 31, at least 13 more threats were called in — this time individually, by a woman. None of the bomb threats were deemed credible. Though they were not credible, the threats themselves were chilling for anyone, especially a parent, to hear. "In a short time, a large number of Jews are going to be slaughtered," a woman states in a recording from a January 18 threat. But some parents and JCC administrators are urging others not to let fear keep them from returning to their JCCs. Samantha Taylor, a mother of three near Orlando, Florida, has a three-year-old daughter who attends preschool at the Roth Family Jewish Community Center of Greater Orlando, which has received three bomb threats in just over two weeks. Taylor, a board member at the JCC, was on campus for the first one.
