Seymour has has a long career in liquor and has been a global CEO multiple times, adding millions of cases and value to every firm he worked at, from the Philippines to Singapore, to Amsterdam, and from Allied-Domecq to Maxxium to Amber Beverage, and many more besides. Seymour was my client for years, starting at Maxxium, and we developed a friendship that's seen us collaborate on many projects since. His newest venture, Chimera brand development in the UK, is less than two years old but already has thousands of distribution points in bars and wholesalers throughout the UK and recently acquired the Ridgeview Wine Estate in England as well. We talk about his upbringing and education, working for the Mars brothers, his route into liquor, how competitive it was back then, fighting counterfeiters in the Philippines, building global liquor brands, what's important, what isn't, and how it all works. This is a great episode - enjoy. RTB's sister podcast, Novel Dialogue, spoke recently with Aaron Gwyn. He is the author of four novels: The World Beneath, Wynne's War, and, most recently, two wonderfully linked historical novels, All God's Children, which won the Oklahoma Book award, and The Cannibal Owl. In his conversation with Sean McCann of Wesleyan (A Pinnacle of Feeling: American Literature and Presidential Government and Gumshoe America: Hard-Boiled Crime Fiction and the Rise and Fall of New Deal Liberalism), we learn that Robert Lemmons is a real historical figure and so is Levi English. One way to grasp Gwyn's achievement is to consider the contrast between his durably realist work and Cormac McCarthy's 1985 Blood Meridian. Much as Aaron and Sean admire that novel, McCarthy's characters strike them as monstrous and incredible. How about Charles Portis's True Grit, asks John? Aaron loves it for its ventriloquizing power, and its truth-loving willingness to weave in unsettling back stories like Rooster Cogburn's ties to Quantrill's Rangers, an eerily modern pro-Confederate terrorist paramilitary. In NOvel Dialogue's "signature question," we learn why Aaron's favorite teacher was Robert Hill, Pink-Floyd-loving drummer and perennial inspiration (audio here). Mentioned in this episode: Richard Slotkin's notion of “the man who knows Indians” comes from Gunfighter Nation Mark Twain, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court (1889) Herman Melville, Moby Dick William Faulkner, Absalom, Absalom! Toni Morrison, Beloved Thomas Pynchon, Gravity's Rainbow John Williams, Stoner (but also Butcher's Crossing –-which John loves— and Augustus, which did indeed split the National Book Award (not the Pulitzer) in 1973 with John Barth's Chimera. Send us Fan MailIf you enjoyed this deep dive on cloning and genetic modification, hit subscribe, drop a comment with your take — should we bring back the woolly mammoth? — and share the episode with the friend who still thinks Walt Disney's head is in a freezer.Cloning and genetic modification get blended together constantly in pop culture, so this episode breaks down what's actually real, what's a myth, and how we got from a frog tadpole in 1952 to dire wolf pups in 2025.Brian, Thomas, and producer Corey (it's Corey's birthday) walk through the full history and science of cloning — admitting up front they're not scientists, just three guys following a rabbit hole that started with a family cloning their dog, CRISPR edits, and the Lone Star tick. From there it turns into a surprisingly thorough tour of how copying and editing life actually works. The episode untangles the four ideas people constantly confuse: cloning (a genetic copy, same DNA), genetic modification / gene editing (changing genes, like CRISPR), de-extinction (reviving a lost species), and chimeras (mixing cells from two species). With that foundation set, the crew traces the timeline from Yves Delage's 1895 nuclear transplantation concept and Hans Spemann's 1938 "fantastical experiment," through the first nuclear transfer in 1952, John Gurdon's Nobel Prize work, and Dolly the sheep — the first mammal cloned from an adult cell, born July 5, 1996.If you've ever wondered whether you can really clone your pet, this one answers it: it's real, it's commercial, and it's expensive. They cover the actual companies and price tags, why a clone is not a resurrection, and why the Humane Society pushes back on the practice. The conversation also gets into man-animal hybrids — the bizarre real story of Soviet scientist Ilya Ivanov — and busts the myth that Stalin wanted an army of ape-man super soldiers. This is for anyone curious about CRISPR, stem cell medicine, de-extinction headlines, and the ethics underneath all of it: human-animal chimeras grown for transplant organs, the 100,000+ Americans on the organ waiting list, and whether reproductive human cloning should stay banned. Expect the science (telomeres, Large Offspring Syndrome, the brutal 1–5% survival rate) alongside the kind of unfiltered, off-the-rails commentary the show is known for.By the end you'll understand why the 2025 "dire wolf" isn't really a dire wolf, what the Bucardo's grim record actually was, and why mules — and ligers — can't be bred the way you'd think. It's a fast, funny, fact-checked crash course in one of the wildest fields in modern science.New episodes of The Days Grimm Podcast drop regularly — history, science, true crime, and whatever rabbit hole Tom drags everyone into next.TIMELINE:00:00 — Cold open & welcome (Corey's birthday)01:58 — Today's deep dive: cloning and genetic modification02:07 — "We're not scientists" disclaimer03:04 — Why Tom picked this: CRISPR, the Lone Star tick & a cloned dog04:34 — 1895: the first nuclear transplantation concept06:21 — The 4 things people confuse: cloning, gene editing, de-extinction & chimeras07:07 — Why the 2025 "dire wolf" is really edited gray wolf11:16 — 1952 leopard frogs & John Gurdon's Nobel work12:30 — Dolly the sheep and why she mattered14:00 — Why mules (and ligers) can't reproduce16:46 — How cloning actually works (somatic cell nuclear transfer)20:26 — What we've cloned so far + first primate clones (2018)21:54 — Can you clone your pet? As 2026 reaches its midpoint, the global economic outlook is growing more uncertain. In this episode of Current Account, Clay is joined by the IIF's Marcello Estevão, Chief Economist and Managing Director, and Jonathan Fortun, Senior Economist, to unpack the latest Capital Flows Report and what it reveals about shifting growth, capital movements, and policy pressures. They examine how geopolitical shocks are compounding existing weaknesses, why the U.S. continues to outperform other economies, and what is driving mixed signals across emerging markets. The conversation also explores how supply chain disruptions are spreading beyond energy and what central banks and policymakers should be watching as risks build heading into the second half of the year. This IIF Podcast was hosted by Clay Lowery, Executive Vice President, Research and Policy, with production and research contributions from Christian Klein, Digital Graphics and Production Associate and Miranda Silverman, Senior Program Assistant.

Send us Fan MailOn this episode, I sit down with Jules Peters, the wife of the front man of The Alarm, the late Mike Peters. We discuss their incredible love affair, his long battle with cancer, The Alarm's new album, Transformation, and more.****"Mike lived a life of beauty and never gave up right to the very end,” says Jules Peters, bandmate and wife of the late Mike Peters of THE ALARM who passed away on April 29, 2025. Following a fearlessly valiant 31-year battle with cancer, his monumental legacy continues with the release of TRANSFORMATION on May 29, 2026 on Twenty First Century Recordings/Virgin Music Group. Its latest single, “Live Today” premieres now via Consequence.Filmed just days before Mike underwent the innovative CAR-T treatment with hopes of eradicating Richter's Syndrome, an aggressive form of lymphoma, “Live Today” is Mike's final video. “As the sun rose, watching Mike perform this song with so much optimism and hope will live with me forever,” said Jules as she looks back. “It was a bittersweet day for me as we filmed this incredible joyous film on the beach in the North of England. After filming concluded, we climbed onto the tour bus and drove straight to the Christie Hospital in Manchester, U.K.. We were full of determination that the pioneering CAR-T would save Mike's life but, at the same time, I was personally terrified as I couldn't shake off a feeling that cancer had finally caught up with us both.”Diagnosed with lymphoma in 1995 and later with chronic lymphocytic leukemia, Peters refused to let his illness silence him. Instead, he turned his fight into a mission to help others.Alongside his wife Jules, he co-founded Love Hope Strength, a music-driven cancer charity that revolutionized awareness and action around stem cell donation that continues beyond his passing. Through its innovative “Get On The List” campaigns—often hosted at rock concerts and even atop mountains—the charity has added over 400,000 people to the global stem cell registry and helped secure thousands of potential life-saving matches for patients worldwide. While this may seem like the final chapter for The Alarm, Transformation promises that the legacy of The Alarm will transform into something larger. While Mike has gone out in a blaze of glory, his love, hope and strength continues on. Echoing the title of the new single, Jules concludes, “Mike and the spirit of The Alarm will ‘Live Today,' forever more. I invite you all to blast Transformation out loud. Imagine Mike in the room with you. Transformation is his battle cry, his resilient love of life. Right to the very end, Mike believed that he was going to live, to be totally free. My last memory is driving him open top along the North Wales coast road, playing Transformation at maximum volume. He was so happy. So full of life. Playing his air drums, bass guitar, already imagining himself on his next world tour. So keep that positive spirit moving forwards. Imagine him as you all knew him best, striding out on to that stage, changing lives one concert at a time. This is an album of hope and a passionate celebration of a life well lived. Please do not be sad. Mike wouldn't want that. He was so proud of this album and had the best time recording it during the last six months of his life. Blast it out loud like Mike did. Play along to the track list and most of all, be happy that we all had Mike in our lives and continue to do so. The music of Mike and The Alarm will always keep us strong”.****If you would like to contact the show Dauna@betertopodcast.comFollow us on Social MediaYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX0ETs2wpOHbCuhUNr0XFTw?view_as=subscriberInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/author_d.m.needom/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bettertopodcastwithdmneedomSupport the podcast here: https://www.patreon.com/bettertopodcastwithdmneedom©2026 Better To...Podcast with D. Send us Fan MailGranny Gigglesnort is busy at her iron cauldron, stirring up a liquid that gloops and glurped. Today is the day she perfects her Polymorph Potion—the brew of becoming! One sip, and her brave volunteer, Stanky, should be able to transform into any creature he wishes. But as it turns out, shape-shifting is a lot harder than it looks! Stanky tries to visualize majestic creatures, but the results are a bit... surprising:The Rhino: Stanky wants to be a silver-horned unicorn, but he turns into a heavy, grey Rhinoceros that smashes the kitchen table! The Turkey: Stanky tries for a noble Griffin, but ends up as a wobbly, confused Turkey with a long, red wattle. The "B-Grade" Chimera: Stanky attempts to become a legendary Chimera, but becomes a horrificulous mess with a poodle body, a chicken head, a rat head, and a frog for a tail! Granny feels like a failure and almost hangs up her witch's hat, but Stanky reminds her of her own wise words: "Fall down seven times, stand up eight!" He encourages her not to give up, even after three "zoos of accidents". In this kids story podcast episode, Granny tries one more time with a shimmering Dragon Scale for stability. Watch as her eighth attempt finally takes flight, teaching us all that failure isn't the end, it's just the first step toward becoming a dragon!Support the show

We're talking about one of our favorite films of the 2020's this week with Alice Rohrwacher's La Chimera. Told with magical realism and an earthy bespoke quality, the 2023 film follows Josh O'Connor as a British archaeologist in Italy who belongs to a crew of tombaroli, grave robbers who sells off their findings. With O'Connor speaking … Continue reading "388 – La Chimera"

He made his debut as a writer in 2017 with the novel "Malchut", which was hailed the "debut of the year" by Village magazine. Since then, his novels „Trance” and „Crusade Chancellery” were well received by readers. Ostap writes in the genre of historical and peculiar fiction, often referring to cultural heritage and history of anecdotes. He lives in Lviv. The Iran war rages on, oil prices continues to surge, and inflation spikes. When will we be in a global recession? Do we see stagflation coming back? Can military action open and secure the Strait of Hormuz? Or is that also a Chimera? Are the Disorderers doing this all on purpose do they benefit from all this Disorder? This week, Jason Pack and Mark Lobel discuss the big picture economic problems of the Iran war, including: America's doomed insurance and military proposals to get oil moving through the Strait of Hormuz again, the collosal impact of continued closure on the global economy; the situation on America's and Britain's relationships with their Gulf allies; what rising oil prices and swelling Russian coffers means for Russia's war on Ukraine; why China could be a surprise Orderer in this (if they chose to play the part); Starmer's triangulating response to this crisis; and – as they Order the Disorder – the role Britain and Europe could play in mediating this conflict. Aaron Gwyn is the author of four novels: The World Beneath, Wynn's War, and, most recently, two wonderfully linked historical novels, All God's Children, which won the Oklahoma Book award, and The Cannibal Owl. In his conversation with Sean McCann of Wesleyan (A Pinnacle of Feeling: American Literature and Presidential Government and Gumshoe America: Hard-Boiled Crime Fiction and the Rise and Fall of New Deal Liberalism) and Novel Dialogue's own John Plotz, we learn that Robert Lemmons is a real historical figure and so is Levi English. In our signature question, we learn why Aaron's favorite teacher was Robert Hill, Pink-Floyd-loving drummer and perennial inspiration (audio here). Mentioned in the episode: Richard Slotkin's notion of “the man who knows Indians” comes from Gunfighter Nation Mark Twain, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court (1889) Herman Melville, Moby Dick William Faulkner Absalom Absalom Toni Morrison, Beloved Thomas Pynchon, Gravity's Rainbow. John Williams, Stoner (but also Butcher's Crossing –-which John loves— and Augustus, which did indeed split the National Book Award (not the Pulitzer) in 1973 with John Barth's Chimera. People have seen creatures with the heads of one beast and the body of another. These would be chimera, creatures with mixed DNA. Here are a few examples of real-life creatures of unusual parentage, and a few monsters.
Mary Roach details xenotransplantation and chimeras for organ replacement, while also recounting historical nasal reconstructions and the use of the Fibonacci sequence in modern plastic surgery techniques. 3

WHAT'S HAPPENING?!Flash back one week: Emily is full of Christmas spirit, singing Jingle Bells. Famous Ray stops by to tell Emily there's a new fine-dining spot opening across town. His friend is opening it and asks if she'd help come up with a Christmas meal for the soft launch.Cut to the restaurant, where they're still scrambling to get it ready. The owner, Danny, is in a huge argument with the contractor because he owes him a lot of money. Danny can't afford anything and his wife, Lauren, is not thrilled. Danny introduces Emily to Carrie, their sommelier, and Chef John Mark. John Mark is not impressed with her Victorian cookbooks, so she leaves—only to witness Danny and Famous Ray arguing.Later, Sam gets a call: there's been a murder. Danny is dead in the snow, his knuckles red.Emily goes to talk to Famous Ray to ask more about Chimera and notices his knuckles are red. I'm sure it's nothing. She asks if he went straight to the Chimera source. While they're talking, he gets a call—Danny is dead.Flashback: Emily in her Chimera days, stealing money from a billionaire—“You gotta do bad to do some good.” She kisses Aaron (the guy from the last episode).Sam brings Lauren in to question her. She hopes Sam won't shut them down because “this is Danny's legacy.”Sam asks Emily what she knows. She mentions the contractor… and the argument she saw with Famous Ray.That night, Emily gets home and finds Famous Ray waiting inside (totally normal, very chill). He's like, “Listen, I can't have the police poking around my business. I did punch Danny, but that's it. He was fine when I left.”The next morning he makes pancakes but has to hide when Sam drops by. Sam tells her Famous Ray left town and to call if she hears anything.Emily checks in on the staff. She discovers the chef and Lauren have a past—and he took the job to be close to her, even though it was a step down. Emily also witnesses a big argument between Chef John Mark and Carrie, the sommelier. On her way out, she sees Sam—and Sam is shocked to learn that Violet's mom (his ex), Monica, is in town.Flashback: Aaron tells Emily he's the one who framed their principal back in the day. He was “just trying to protect her.”Violet meets with her mom but doesn't stay long. Clearly, there are feelings there.Emily goes to get her cookbooks from John Mark and sees the place nearly empty. So she snoops—naturally—and finds paperwork showing Lauren owns 100% of the business. Weird, huh. She tries to crack the safe but gets interrupted by Carrie, who says she probably won't be around long anyway.Later, Emily runs into contractor Jason, who apologizes for his earlier behavior. She walks into the diner and sees Monica, who asks if things are serious between Sam and Emily.Emily brings Sam to talk to Famous Ray so he can clear his name. His story holds up, but Sam warns her not to trust the wrong friend.Flashback: Emily has trusted the wrong person before. She once confronted her boyfriend after discovering some pretty bad stuff.Back in the present, Emily grows more suspicious of John Mark. Before she investigates, Sam shows up. The place looks closed, but he walks in anyway. It's dark. He pokes around. We see a hand grab a bottle of wine. Emily calls him—because she's getting nervous. We see Sam get knocked out and dragged across the floor.Emily panics and goes inside. She sees the wine trail leading to the walk-in freezer. She opens it and finds Sam. She steps inside—the door slams shut. No cell signal. But they see scratches on the steel door… maybe that's why Danny's knuckles were red?So these two lovebirds are stuck in a freezer together.Flashback: Emily confronts Aaron. He's been diverting stolen money into offshore accounts and making deals with terrorist organizations. Cops burst in. Aaron escapes.Emily tells Sam her name used to be Grace. He says it suits her… and then they KISSSSSS!!! Thankfully contractor Jason appears and rescues them.He brings them to a fire to warm up and says someone texted him to come, but he doesn't know who. Then he saw the safe had been broken into. Jason swears it wasn't him.John Mark shows up. They drop the act—he's not French. He gives in immediately.During questioning, he says they should look at Jason. Jason knew the freezer handle was broken. And he “just happened” to know to come help? Shady.Sam questions Lauren next. She says the safe was empty when someone broke into it—because she emptied it earlier and found $30k. No idea where it came from, but she used it to pay Jason so the opening could happen.Sam invites Emily to the grand opening—because all the suspects will be there.Flashback: Aaron is missing and appears to be rebuilding Chimera. The feds ask Emily to help track him down.Grand opening time. Sam and Emily walk in looking SPIFFY. First course begins. The sommelier spills wine on Jason. Lauren sends her home. John Mark then slips up and mentions Danny's chipped tooth—something no one knew. John Mark panics and runs. Sam chases him. John Mark insists Danny confronted him about not being French, flashed a chipped tooth, and then John Mark later found him dead in the freezer. He moved the body so it wouldn't ruin the opening. The sommelier returns and disappears with Lauren. Emily follows and finds the sommelier holding Lauren at gunpoint. She spills everything: Danny promised her an ownership stake in exchange for 100k, but since he didn't own anything, she wanted her money back. He didn't have it. So she trapped him in the freezer.A fight breaks out—bringing us back to the movie's opening. She holds a knife to Emily's throat. Emily fights back, kicks her down, and knocks her out. Criminal: obliterated. The movie ends with Sam bringing Emily to a gazebo for their first date. She says it's perfect. She tells him he can ask her anything. She's ready. She reveals she used to be in intelligence, was hunting someone down, and walked into a trap. Grace “died” that day. She took a new identity. He says he's glad she did. They kiss BIGGGG ONESSSSS. She says there's more she has to tell him—things she's not proud of—but he says he knows who she really is. More kissing. The next morning she wakes up excited to get coffee with Sam. There's a knock at the door—she thinks it's him. It's not. It's Aaron.“Merry Christmas, Grace. You look pretty good for a dead woman.” Watch the show on Youtube - www.deckthehallmark.com/youtubeInterested in advertising on the show? Part 2: Emily and Sam investigate deception surrounding a mysterious painting, revealing hidden motives and Emily's own secrets, while Violet makes a special gift.AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR: MISTLETOE MURDERS – THE IDES OF DECEMBERNovember 14, 2025 | Hallmark Mystery ChannelCAST & CREW OF: MISTLETOE MURDERS – THE IDES OF DECEMBERSarah Drew as EmilyPeter Mooney as SamBRAN'S MISTLETOE MURDERS – THE IDES OF DECEMBER SYNOPSISThe movie kicks off with an art influencer live-streaming. We're at an art gallery for missing artist, Angela Wells. It's got a bunch of never-before-seen stuff that has been found by her granddaughter, Moira Wells. Famous Ray has funded this gallery. Classic Famous Ray.Emily walks into the diner and sees Sam. Violet is back at the Mistletoe and Emily is pumped. We see Sam's mentor and old partner, Reed, come in and give Sam a big ol hug. He's in town doing security for the art gallery.Reed gets there to accept some shipping for the gallery. The dude is running late and when he finally arrives, Reed looks terrified. Obviously, Sam discovers him dead the next day.Emily goes to the bookstore for Moira's book reading when a police officer comes and pulls her aside. They need her to identify if one of the paintings left behind is an authentic Angela Wells. She says it is.It doesn't take long for Emily to find out about Reed. She goes to check on Sam and obviously tries to find out if there are any suspects. He's looking at the security footage and he notices that the live streamer poking around the art house late at night.Sam brings him in for questioning. He says he came across someone with a gun and got out of there quick. The "Bad News Guy," Kyle, is heading out of town for the holidays but while he's still in town, has a flirty fun time with Violet and they talk about the Christmas presents they bought for each other, despite Violet most definitely not having a Christmas gift for him.Sam finds out that Reed was struggling with a painkiller addiction before his death. Sam continues to feel guilty because Reed took a bullet for him early in his career. And Reed asked Sam to help him at the gallery but he said no. He should've been there. We see a flashback of Emily as a kid using her "wiz powers" for bad and changing the grades of a bully to make his grades worse. The boy she's hanging out with is a fan, and they kiss.Back to present day, Emily and Sam sneak around the art gallery to listen in on the investigation since Sam is too close to the case to actively investigate. They catch wind of a guy named Benny who may have a grudge against Reed. They go to do a stakeout and find Benny talking to the art influencer and Moira Wells. How are they all connected? The next day at a book signing for Moira, Emily watches as Moira gets really weird around a girl who said she's adopted too. After that, the bookstore owner, Noah, confronts her. He thinks she's lying about who she is because of inconsistencies in the book. She quickly leaves.Emily goes to talk to Famous Ray about getting them on the guest list for the big art exhibit. On her way out, she asks if he knows anything about underground hackers. She rattles off a few including Chimera and Ray is like, "Oh, are you and Sam working on the same project?" It's at this point that she realizes Sam is still investigating her.Emily is poking around some more and sees the art influencer clean his glasses with the same glasses cleaner found at the crime scene. He said he was there because he paid the security guard to let him see the painting first.Which is why when the painting is finally displayed at a party, he looks confused. Obviously, Emily notices and asks him what's wrong. He says, "That's not the painting I saw."Sam takes this information to his boss and he tells him to stay out of this; he's not on this case.We get another flashback and we see the principal of the school come to talk to her hacking club about someone who stole money from the school's bank account. They think some student hacked into the system and she shuts down the hacking club.Back to present day, Emily meets with Noah. He's continuing to dig into his suspicion about Moira. He thinks she's definitely a fraud, so he decides to apologize to her and ask her for drinks to bury the hatchet. The "Bad News Guy" art influencer is found dead. That's unfortunate. And Piper, the girl who Moira got mad at at the book signing, had her art piece destroyed.Noah tells Emily that he has a glass she drank out of and wants to do a DNA test. But compare it to what? Well, Emily remembers that Angela Wells' paint brushes were made out of her hair. So with the help of Famous Ray, Sam, and Noah, Emily breaks in to steal a strand of it.Sometimes you gotta do a little bad to do a little good. Cut to a flashback showing the principal getting arrested for stealing the money. Young Emily looks concerned. Her boyfriend not so much.Oh hey good news - the art influencer is not dead and he wants to help with the case - he's mad at Moira for not giving him the exclusive. He has a blurry picture of the real painting - it's clearly different, and actually looks a whole lot like Piper.Sam and Emily finally talk about Sam still looking into her further. Emily says she's nervous that if he keeps looking into her, he's not going to like what he finds.Sam brings Moira into questioning, and brings the DNA test to prove that she's not related to her. Moira comes clean - she convinced a very old daughter of Angela that she was her daughter. They believe that Moira came to Fletcher's Grove to scare Piper off. She basically confirms all of that but says she didn't kill Reed and asks for her lawyer. When the cop that was working the case finds out about this, he's pissed. Sam was supposed to be on leave! But that's not the only reason he's mad. He's mad because HE DID IT! Once Sam questions him, he admits to everything. He just wanted to send his kid through medical school and things got away from him.Piper ends up still winning the painting competition and everyone now knows that she's the real heir of Angela Wells. The movie ends with Sam and Emily going for a walk. Sam apologizes for continuing to investigate her. He's more interested in who she is now. They promise not to keep any new secrets from each other. Emily is happy until she thinks she sees her ex-boyfriend from school, Aaron. Watch the show on Youtube - www.deckthehallmark.com/youtubeInterested in advertising on the show? He leaves, hurt — but not before Emily says she really wishes they could've just taken that walk in the snow.Eleven months later, Emily is out for a jog. She's thought about leaving and starting over in another small town…but she just couldn't. She loves it in Fletcher's Grove.Cut to the diner: two teens are hanging out in a booth. One is Violet — Sam's daughter, who Emily no longer employs at The Mistletoe because of how things ended with Sam. The other is Kyle, and they are very clearly into each other. We also meet Tim Hinley, the chess coach. His team just lost, and he is a full-on grumpy elf.Later, Emily bumps into Sam. Awkward small talk. They go their separate ways. Then we see the football coach arrive home to find a note on his door. He reads it, looks panicked, grabs what appears to be a go-bag, jumps into his car, and speeds away.Speaking of go-bags — Emily has been much more cautious this year, constantly monitoring anything related to Chimera ever since they almost caught her last Christmas. She's never letting her guard down again.Violet asks Emily to teach her chess. Emily suggests she ask Coach Hinley. That's when Violet reveals: he's missing. After that day at the diner, he resigned and vanished. This sets off alarm bells. Emily goes to his house — something's off — so she takes the case to Sam. He says he'll look into it. After she leaves, we see he's still investigating who Emily really is.Emily goes to the school to drop off decorations for Violet and stumbles into the chess team competing. Since he only stepped in to help his son on the team, he asks if she'll take over coaching. She says no.Emily continues to dig and hears rumors that Coach Hinley was romantically involved with a rival coach. Suspicious. She brings this to Sam, and it leads to a big argument.Emily finds the rival coach and asks about it. The coach denies everything — very aggressively — insisting she would never damage her reputation.Emily then stumbles upon Kyle fighting with the VP's son over chess drama — Janitor Ben Ayres steps in to break it up.Sam arrives and is like, Why are you everywhere?? He takes a call — Emily overhears — they found Tim's car at the airport… but his suitcase is still in the trunk. The next day, Emily returns to question the VP. On her way out, she chats with Janitor Ben — when a dog wanders in. It's Tim's dog.Who abandons their dog? They follow the dog into the basement, where it stops on a patch of new concrete.Emily calls Sam. Ground radar is brought in.There's a body.Sam later comes to Emily's house to update her, and sparks fly again — but he spots a piece of paper under her couch and quietly takes a picture of it.Meanwhile, Sam reviews security footage and sees Tim arguing with Kyle before Kyle punches the wall. That same day, Kyle asks Violet to the winter dance. She says yes… just as Sam walks in and arrests Kyle.Emily confronts Sam. He shows her a threatening note found on Tim's door. In order to help the investigation, Emily agrees to coach the chess team.Kyle returns after being released and insists he's innocent. Emily overhears the VP chewing out his son. She ends the day playing chess with Janitor Ben.It turns out the VP's son was selling stolen test papers, and Coach Hinley found out. Then the rival coach shows up to accept the full-time position — but Emily already took it. Emily sees Tim's lucky tie in her back seat, and Sam brings her in for questioning. Another big blow-up — but later they calm down and almost kiss. Again. Sam retreats… again. It's Winter Dance time!Violet grabs something from her locker and finds a note:“Stay away from Kyle. This is your only warning.”Emily, also at the dance, takes this chance to snoop in VP Leeland's office and finds practice sheets of Tim's signature.Meanwhile, Violet shows the note to the VP. He tells her to come with him.Emily is searching for Violet when she runs into Janitor Ben — who is distraught. He admits he wrote the warning note because he didn't want Kyle distracted from chess. Why does he care so much?Because — Kyle is his son.Kyle overhears and runs off in shock.Emily hears Violet scream and rushes to the VP's office.
