They're so scared of being accused of backing another 'illegal war' that they'd rather sit on their hands.  Meanwhile tensions are rising around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important shipping lanes on the planet. British tankers go through there every day. Yet Starmer refuses to send British ships to protect them. Instead we get a lecture about subsidising fuel bills. Fuel bills? That's not leadership. That's ducking the real problem.  And then this weekend he allows yet another anti-British demonstration to take place in London. Yet he has the nerve to stand there today and say he is 'always standing up for the British people'. Standing up? Don't make me laugh. Jon Gaunt says the truth is this: Starmer isn't standing up for Britain — he's bending the knee to our enemies abroad and the extremists at home. Anthony is Associate Professor of American Studies at the University of Notre Dame, where he teaches courses in U.S. religious history, gender and sexuality studies, the long 1980s, and visual culture. His most recent book, "Provoking Religion: Sex, Art, and the Culture Wars," examines the history of feminist and queer artists who found themselves caught in the crosshairs of the Christian Right. He is also the author of "After the Wrath of God: AIDS, Sexuality, and American Religion. " Anthony serves as a series editor for the North American Religions book series at NYU Press. Before joining Notre Dame, he was an associate professor of religion at Boston University, where he also served as the NEH Distinguished Teaching Professor and founded the Health Humanities Project.​​In this conversation, Anthony and I discussed the role of artists in the culture wars of the 80s and 90s and the ongoing relevance of material religion in contemporary art. We also shared thoughts on how artists today continue to engage with religious themes, challenge traditional narratives, and address issues of race, sexuality, and power through their work.

Mandelson's past links to Jeffrey Epstein were hardly a secret. We already knew he had maintained contact with Epstein even after Epstein had been convicted, something that should have set alarm bells ringing in any Prime Minister's office. Yet despite those risks, Starmer pushed ahead with the appointment anyway.  Now the story gets even murkier. When Mandelson was eventually removed from the role, He reportedly demanded a staggering £547,000 payout. In the end he walked away with £75,000 – not a bad result for a controversy that should arguably never have happened in the first place. Nice work if you can get it.  For Jon Gaunt, this whole sorry saga speaks to a much bigger problem: Keir Starmer's chronic lack of judgement. If a Prime Minister cannot properly assess the reputational risks of appointing someone with such well-known associations, what does that say about their ability to lead the country?  Tonight Jon asks the tough questions the establishment would rather avoid.

Why are so many ordinary voters not shocked at all? Because look at what people are seeing. A world that's becoming more dangerous by the day. Serious tensions in the Middle East involving Iran. Major global uncertainty. And Britain — once a country that projected confidence and strength — now looks hesitant, cautious, almost afraid to speak plainly. Then you look at what's happening at home. People worried about the economy. Communities worried about crime and cohesion. Arguments raging about immigration, integration and free speech. And what does the government seem focused on? Another new "czar". Another official to monitor language and police attitudes. Now supporters say tackling anti-Muslim hatred is important — and of course discrimination should be challenged wherever it appears. But critics are asking a fair question: Is the government more interested in managing political sensitivities than confronting the deeper problems that are making communities anxious in the first place? That's the debate people want to have. And instead of engaging with it openly, too often the political class just tries to shut the conversation down. Well tonight we're not doing that. Tonight we're asking the uncomfortable question. Pressed about Donald Trump's and Howard Lutnick's ties to Jeffrey Epstein, she lashed out at questioners and deflected to stock market numbers. The hypocrisy is hard to miss: a movement that built its identity on “saving the children” now treats actual survivors as political inconveniences. When Jared Moskowitz held up the Trump-branded Bible and noted that Trump's name appears in the Epstein files more times than God's appears in Scripture, the exchange crystallized the contradiction—commodified faith, selective outrage, and a refusal to confront abuse when it implicates one's own side. We also turn to the Twin Cities, where clergy and neighbors continue resisting ICE operations on the ground. As Axios reports, faith leaders are organizing prayer circles, serving as human shields, and explicitly naming Christian nationalism as incompatible with the teachings of Jesus.
