10 Lessons I Learned In My Journey as a Product Manager Understand your Product: Product managers, will lead the development of your product and not only that, you'll be the one to define what success would look like for your product. Understanding your product's goals, Business goals, Vision of the product, and extensively understanding what problem your product is solving is key. Understanding your WHY, WHAT and How of your product is essential. Build yourself like a Product: I started my product management journey with not so clear vision of what I wanted to become, but one of the things I took serious was building my brand and positioning myself in the PM and Tech Space; well not like I've gotten to where I want to yet. As time went by, my career vision, long term & short goals became clearer, I kept building on myself, actively learning and open to feedback. As Product Managers you have to build yourself like a Product. Have an innovative mindset: To become a better Product Manager, you have to have an innovative mindset and be a critical thinker. Products aren't just built, it takes a lot ideation, critical thinking, research before it is being brought to life. As Tech evolves, you have to be actively thinking of ways to better improve your product and be innovative about your ideas. Product Management isn't a Shortcut to Tech: A lot of people tend to believe that since they can't code, the easiest Career path to delve into is Product Management. Product Management is hard, what other word can I use? It's hard and it's not easy. It takes a lot to be a Product Manager; Being a critical thinker, Decision Maker, Effective leader, People Manager, Empathetic Manager and many more. They seem easy but when you eventually have to start using these skills, you realize it's more than that. Prioritize both your physical and mental health: Health is wealth like we all say. Sometimes people only focus on the physical health and neglecting the mental health, forgetting that a healthy mind results to a healthy productive lifestyle. Product management can be so demanding that sometimes, you struggle to care for your mental health. Having healthy routines or habits that can help you balance a healthy mental health is key. Learn everyday: When I say learn everyday you know I'm not saying every day, I meant be an ‘active Learner'. Product Management is a broad Career path, and even though you don't have to be expert in all aspects, it's important to be able to understand every other aspects of Product Management. Learning from experts, online learning, learning from experience are ways to learn. Learning is a continuous journey and Tech itself is a fast pace sector. Build rich connections: Building rich connections is key in Tech, and it has a lot of its advantages. Remember that; “Your Network is your net-worth”, this is really true. Having the right connections and people in your corner would help your journey a lot easier as a product Manager; From learning from their experience, guidance, to even opportunities. Product Managers wears many hats : So far in my career, I've realized that not only are we Product Managers but we're superheroes. Product Managers are at the center of the Product, and we do more than managing the Product. Some Product Managers do responsibilities of Quality Assurance tester, Business analyst, marketing manager, Scrum Master, Project manager and many more. Kudos to all Product Managers! Documentation is a key aspect of Product Management: As product managers, ability to effectively document processes and tools, Product Documentations is key especially if you're just starting in PM or in the junior level. Documentation plays a crucial role in Product Development and it serves as a guide for knowledge sharing. Product Managers embraces Feedback: Feedback could be positive or negative, what makes you a better Product Manager is your ability to embrace feedback both on your product and on your Career journey.

Managing a remote team can be challenging for some recruitment business owners, especially on the collaboration part. So Sam and I discussed their best practices on how they keep their team together, the systems they use, and the practices they do, in order to work collaboratively in a 100% remote setup.   Leadership - Sam shared his leadership style that contributes to their culture and way of working. He emphasized the value of transparency - with him being an “open book.” He also elaborated on trust and the philosophy of “pushing your way in, don't wait to be pulled in.”   Collaborative Check-ins - Sam discussed their concept of Zoom check-ins for collaborative tasks and highlighted the value of investing in systems that promote communication and collaboration. We also talked about the importance of having clear agendas and keeping virtual meetings focused. What can you do to silence the noise and opinions of others? What voices do you have inside your head, and which one should you listen to? What about feedback? This is a must-watch-and-listen-to episode! In Big Money Stylist, we go over the following formula each month: Week #1: Power Week #2: Production Week #3: Profit Week #4: Protection In This Week’s Episode…..POWER Point #1: Voices Any time you’re about to do something new or make a decision, you’re always going to have two voices inside your head speaking to you. One of them is your legitimate intuition, the other one – which sounds exactly the same – is fear.  With fear, your mind goes to the worst-case scenario and gives you anxiety. The other voice, however, brings with it a gut feeling or sixth sense, commonly referred to as your spidey-sense. QUESTION Are you able to differentiate between the two voices? Which one do you find yourself most often paying attention to? Point #2: But… What Will People Say? Whenever we are investing in something, whether it be a class, an event, or a product, there are always going to be people who have an opinion about it. “Why would you spend so much money on that? I would NEVER do that!” Ani: We pay too much attention to what others think, and they end up projecting their fears onto us! Danielle: With our education, there is always a price point. Many might second guess themselves and ask, “Is it worth it? What are people going to think?” I invest a lot of money into my business, giving our artists the best experience they can possibly have, including months of pre-training. QUESTION When you make a decision, who do you tend to listen to: yourself, or everyone around you? Point #3: Feedback Feedback is HUGE at Danielle’s salon. When a client has a bad experience, it’s human nature to want to defend one’s actions. But instead of doing that, it’s better to look at what took place and ask yourself what you can learn from it and what can be done differently the next time in a similar scenario. Ani: Don’t look at feedback as an attack, it’s to help you fucking grow. Taking feedback isn’t about shutting your mouth, it’s about stepping back and having a conversation about the situation from all viewpoints and then course correcting. QUESTION How do you give and receive feedback?   Point #4: Tune Out the Noise Ani: It’s SO easy to have an opinion from far away. In the words of one of our trainers, Candice, “If I am standing here on the stage, don’t fucking come to me if you’re sitting in the bleachers not doing a damn thing.” In other words, until you are in my fucking shoes, I really don’t want your fucking opinion. There came a time in Danielle’s life when she had to let go of everything she was raised with. “I knew in my gut there was another path. I had to TUNE OUT everything and everyone, and instead focus on MY vision of what I saw for myself and my family. When you have that little voice, use it to your advantage; use it as fuel.” QUESTION What can you do to tune out the noise in your life?   Point #5: Know Yourself Sometimes people second guess themselves because they don’t know or understand themselves well enough and instead rely on others to give them the validation they are seeking. Journaling, meditation, and reading books that add value to your life and help you grow as a human being will help you understand and trust yourself. Ani talked about how it’s important to be able to recognize the difference between “This is a bad idea, my stomach hurts!” as opposed to “That would be amazing if it works, but I am so scared.” Sometimes it IS scary, and we don’t know how to come out on the other side of that fear.” QUESTION What do you do on a regular basis to get to know and understand who you are?   Quote of the Week:   “Mama’s comin’ back!” —Danielle K White “Sometimes you just have to do the radically opposite thing than what you’ve been doing to actually get past that fear.” –Anianne Rivera

Today’s episode is the overview and breakdown Podfest Multimedia Expo 2018 held at the Wyndham Resort in Orlando, Florida from Feb 8–10, 2018 Episode Includes: What is Podfest Multimedia Expo? Why did I attend for the third year in a row? What were my goals and expectations for attending Podfest 2018? What did I learn or takeaway from the event that I can apply to my podcast or business? What is Podfest MultiMedia Expo: Podfest an educational and training conference for independent podcasters created by Chris & Katie Krimitsos that originated in Tampa, but moved to Orlando to attract a more international audience. The Event: Podfest Multimedia Expo 2018 was February 8–10th, 2018 Early bird pricing was $249 Hotel Rates at Wyndham Resort in Orlando: $139/night The Schedule: The Podfest Schedule is jam-packed and tight, but everything starts and ends on time. There are sessions where everyone attends and then breakout sessions where you have options. 2018 introduced a YouTube track for video creators. Why Did I Go? 2018 was my 3rd year attending Podfest. Year 1: 2016 I went as a new podcaster looking for advice and ideas about podcasting in general and to get my name in front of a community of podcasters. Year 2: 2017 I went with more focus on Mike Murphy LLC and less to learn about podcasting. I wanted to be around people who were having success with their podcast and/or business and absorb and learn as much as I could and if I was in a position to help someone, then maybe I would generate new business opportunities. Year 3: 2018 It was all about the networking for me. I know the direction I want to take Mike Murphy LLC and I’ve been on the scene now for a few years creating consistent content, and my main goal for Podfest 2018 was to build new and stronger relationships in the content creation space that I know I’ll be in for a long time. Why I’ll go every year: Podfest attracts a really kind and friendly community of podcasters and creators and entrepreneurs that genuinely want to help each other out. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever experienced at a conference and I know it has a lot to do with the organizer and a big reason why Podfest will be on my calendar year after year. Why You Should Go: I said this in last year’s recap of Podfest, but if you are on a similar journey as me trying to create the life you want, you can not do it all on your own and the secret to everything in life involves people connecting with people and making things happen. Introvert? Me, too. I struggle at conferences and events because it is difficult for me to go from conversation to conversation and I get tired of talking and being social. I love people but… Why do you think I resonate with the term One Man Band? I’d much rather sit in the back of the room and people watch and observe and learn as much as possible. But, suck it up and give it your all. No excuses. Go to industry events when you have the chance. I went to Podfest 2018 to be around podcasters, creators, creatives, personal brands and people who share similar interests and goals as me. Creative entrepreneurs who are working hard and learning from each other and trying to make a dent in the universe someway or somehow. There is power in numbers and when the numbers are filled with like-minded creators on a similar journey, well it is impossible not to learn and be inspired attending an event such as Podfest. My Takeaways: Besides a doozy of a cold, What did I learn or takeaway from Podfest 2018? There were tons of things but here are 4 that really stood out to me: Collaboration is key for my success Honest feedback needs to be a priority Being authentic is powerful Undervaluing my skills and talents is not an option Collaboration: Research and reach out to people and offer ways that I think I can help them to develop a working relationship and get attention to my content. This can be done simply by leaving helpful comments and Direct Messages in Instagram. Feedback: Feedback from your audience and from the right people are critical for your podcast and business. My takeaway from Podfest was to make it easier for people to leave me feedback in the show notes that show up in mobile devices. Also, my plan is to create more calls to action in my podcast and videos to get conversation started. Book Mentioned: Principles by Ray Dalio The author credits honest feedback as one of the main reasons he and his $150 billion company is successful. Being Authentic is Real: This is not a new concept and something I believe in wholeheartedly. A presenter was fumbling with their PowerPoint and threw his notes in the air and said I can’t teach this way, do you mind if I get rid of the slides and just be me? The whole room breathed a sigh of relief and we all realized how cool of a moment that was. He just wanted to be real and meant it. That’s all anybody wants of you. It was amazing and it was such a powerful moment in the conference for me because I realized that All people want is you and not all the packaging and fancy stuff we think is so important. You really do not much to make great podcasts, videos or write books and articles and make great products. Because the only thing people are buying into is you. Undervaluing: Are you charging what you are worth? Do you know how valuable your skills and talents are to others? Do you believe you are a premium service? This is my achilles heel and I struggle with this as do many of you. I have confidence in everything I do for people, yet I do not like charging people and I usually do way more than they paid for. This is how businesses fail and I know this but I am also honest in that I have this problem and I am working to overcome it. Well Podfest 2018 smacked me in the face in a good way thanks to a few people looking out for me and while it was again not anything new or surprising, I left with a whole new perspective and confidence in myself and an understanding that what I do is obvious to me, but it is not only amazing, but it is valuable to others. Lessons like these can be learned in books or on YouTube, but the power of a conference with real people all helping each other out is on a whole other level. Conclusion: Podfest is an annual event currently being held in sunny Orlando, Florida and one that I highly recommend for new and experienced podcasters and those of you creating an online business producing new media including YouTube videos. The event is getting bigger each year, but there is an intimate sense of community and people helping one another and that is a really big deal. Podfest and conferences in general can help you solve technical or business problems but can also create friendships and clients and business opportunities that you just cannot do on social media. I went to Podfest 2018 just excited to be around like-minded creative people and maybe learn a few new tricks, play with some new microphones or be inspired by some great people. I was not disappointed and I made some great new friends and connections. See you at Podfest 2019.

Teilnehmer: 4 Mitglieder der Steuerungsgruppe der Fortbildungsinitiative "Wie die Leitlinie ans Bett kommt" der Fa. OrionPharma, die in Europa Dexmedetomidin vertreibt. Rebecca von Haken (Universität Heidelberg), Arnold Kaltwasser und Rolf Dubb (Akademie der Kreiskliniken Reutlingen) sowie Markus Gutschow (OrionPharma) berichten über ihre Fortbildungsinitiative zum Management von Schmerz, Agitation und Delir und angrenzende Themen. Arnold Kaltwasser spricht über das Peer-Review-Verfahren der DIVI, Rolf Dubb über das deutschsprachige Netzwerk Frühmobilisierung. Nach fast einem Jahr Pause (sorry!) ist es wohl in Ordnung, eine zweite Staffel beginnen zu lassen. Also: Los geht's! Roberto Rotondo, Krankenpfleger und Psychologe aus Hamburg bereitet gemeinsam mit seiner Frau die Produktion eines Films über ergreifende Erlebnisse in der Pflege vor. Die Besonderheit dabei: Die Finanzierung des ganzen Projekts läuft über das Crowdfunding-Portal Startnext, wo beispielsweise auch der Internet TV-Sender Störsender seinen Anfang nahm. Ich unterhalte mich mit Roberto Rotondo über das Filmprojekt und seine Hintergründe. Ganz klasse fände ich's, wenn diese Geschichte erfolgreich umgesetzt werden könnte - was wäre das für ein Beispiel für ähnliche Ideen aus der Pflege!
