This week marks International HS Awareness Week, a campaign dedicated to raising awareness of hidradenitis suppurativa, or HS, a painful long-term inflammatory skin condition that affects more than 74,000 people in Ireland. Despite its prevalence, HS remains largely misunderstood, with many sufferers facing years of symptoms before receiving a diagnosis. One person working to change that is Parteen native Barry McGrath, who lives with the condition himself and is Chairperson of HS Ireland. Barry joined Alan Morrissey to share his personal experience, discuss the challenges faced by those living with HS, and highlight the importance of greater awareness and support. I found myself in tears looking at the signatures on the paintings of Helene Schjerfbeck at her show at The Met. There was one where her name loomed very large in the corner. It was "H. Schjerfbeck" but still, it was bold and it was her name on the painting. Most of her work was signed with a discrete "HS" or not at all. Money is tight, wife had colonoscopy. Storms caused damage to home. Cars needed vehicle inspections. Don't have a lot of extra money because we're retired. Went to a buffet for a celebration, and when I came back from bathroom, heard from Jesus, 'John, walk on the water with me.' After 2 weeks, I'm not using a walker anymore. I believe in the power of prayer. (26:59) Break 1 (27:42) Aaron - How is it we get the idea when we say the hail holy queen and we say our life, sweetness and hope. How am i supposed to understand that when it's written in John I am the way, the truth and the light and that no man comes to the father but by me. Email – how do I help my kids with their morning prayer routine? (39:11) Janice - Very prayerful experience with the BVM. She answered my prayers in 12 hours. Had a son graduate from HS. He took 1 semester at a satellite school and stopped. 2nd semester, had no clue. Summer went by and he started talking about the DNR. He became student at UW Stevens Point, enrolled, and back in school. Cried and talked to Mary and my fears. It was a miracle he was enrolled in a university in just a day. (43:48) Les - Sometimes the answer is no and that's not always a bad thing (regarding prayer). I've had prayers that haven't been answered and realized that was probably the correct way to go. Ended up being the right thing.

Cassie Abel had a different road than most to the ski industry. While her peers were spending as much time as possible on snow, Cassie was winning 4 State Championships in HS before her Hall of Fame collegiate career. After a stint of a 9-5 lifestyle, Cassie got sucked into the ski industry, first with resort marketing, and then on the brand side with Smith.  But when her dream job left town, Cassie stayed back in Sun Valley, started a PR agency,  eventually jumped into entrepreneurship with her Ski and Mountain Bike start up, Wild Rye.
