Friday, March 25th, 1988, Lisa got in her Honda and headed north. She would take Interstate 25 to Casper, Wyoming, and from there she would take the mostly two-lane US-20/26 to Greybull, where she would then finish the trip at her boyfriend's house in Cody, Wyoming, on US14. She'd planned to stay the night there and make the remaining hour-and-a-half trek to Billings the next morning with her boyfriend in tow. When Lisa Marie didn't arrive at Ed's house in Cody, as planned, he was immediately worried and called her parents. Lisa was nowhere to be found. When she disappeared on March 25th, 1988, police were sure that if they could locate her car, they might be able to find out who was responsible for her disappearance. Meg takes you through the Lil Miss murder and tells how they caught the man responsible more than a decade later.

In March 1988 18-year-old Lisa Marie Kimmell was driving from Denver, Colorado to her parents’ home in Billings, Montana, with a scheduled pit stop in Cody, Wyoming, to pick up her boyfriend along the way. As head of Advisor Recruiting and Field Marketing, Kristen Kimmell leads the firm’s efforts to invite the best talent in the industry to join the firm’s nearly 2,000-strong financial advisor base. In her role, Kristen works closely with the firm’s global head of diversity and human resources to recruit and retain diverse talent in both the advisor and corporate ranks. She is also the leader of the firm’s push to cultivate a diverse and inclusive advisor force and elevate the role of women within the wealth management industry. A nearly 25-year veteran of RBC Wealth Management – U.S., Kristen is known for out-of-the-box thinking and for her ability to bring teams together to accomplish big goals. She most recently served as head of Credit Strategies and Business Development. She’s also held a variety of roles in Finance, Capital Markets and Wealth Management, including roles leading Technology, Credit Strategy and Business Development. She also serves as the co-executive sponsor of RBC Wealth Management’s Women’s Association of Financial Advisors (WAFA). Kristen began her career in the financial services industry as a financial accountant with Marquette Bancshares in 1993. She joined RBC Wealth Management in 1995 and has held numerous positions, including staff accountant, accounting supervisor and fixed income accounting manager. In 2006, she was promoted to director of financial reporting and administration for RBC Capital Markets. Kristen was named director of strategic finance in 2008, where she oversaw all financial aspects of Private Client Group, including compensation. She became the chief of staff in 2010. She was named co-executive sponsor of WAFA in September 2012. In this role, she provides input and leadership to WAFA on their goals of recruiting and retaining female financial advisors (FAs) and branch directors (BDs) along with enhancing FA productivity.

In his 2017 book "Angry White Men: American Masculinity at the End of an Era," sociologist Michael Kimmell coined the term "aggrieved entitlement" to describe the state of mind of some American white men, who become angry to the point of advocating mass murder and genocide. Kimmell argues that white men who join extremist movements are part of the downwardly mobile middle class, who feel "betrayed by the country they love, discarded like trash on the side of the information superhighway." By all appearances, 48-year-old George Sodini seemed to be a pretty successful guy. He was in good shape and reasonably good looking. He owned a car and had a good job. But, from his perspective and in his own words, Sodini bore more of a resemblance to the men Kimmell described. On August 4, 2009, that frustration led George Sodini to walk into an aerobics class at an LA Fitness gym in Collier Township, Pennsylvania, and open fire on the people he blamed for his anger: women.

Today’s guest is Ken Kimmell, President of Union of Concerned Scientists, a leading science-based nonprofit that combines the knowledge and influence of the scientific community with the passion of concerned citizens to build a healthy planet and a safer world.Ken has more than 30 years of experience in government, environmental policy, and advocacy. He is a national advocate for clean energy and transportation policies and a driving force behind UCS’s “Power Ahead” campaign to build a large and diverse group of clean energy leadership states. Ken served on the Commission on the Future of Transportation in the Commonwealth, which advised Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker’s administration on future transportation needs and challenges. Ken was one of 18 members the governor appointed to the panel charged with looking at five areas anticipated to have a dramatic impact on transportation: climate and resiliency, transportation electrification, autonomous and connected vehicles, transit and mobility services, and land use and demographic trends.Prior to joining UCS in May 2014, Ken was the Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP), an agency with a $100 million budget and 800 employees, including a large staff of scientists and engineers. As commissioner, he also served as chairman of the board of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, helping to prod the nine member states to reduce power plant carbon emissions by almost 50 percent through 2020, reducing emissions in the region by some 90 million tons.Ken has also served as general counsel at the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs in Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick’s administration, and spent 17 years as the director and senior attorney at a Boston-based law firm specializing in environmental, energy, and land-use issues.Ken decided to focus his legal work on environmental issues after clerking for the U.S. District Court in San Francisco, where he assisted a judge in a case involving the health effects of Agent Orange.
