Thank you to Tadin for sponsoring this episode. Today, I am joined by Vanessa Santos, Soul-Led Entrepreneur, Community Builder, & Speaker. We have a conversation about what happens when the “spotlight turns off”, when you deliver your speech and step off of the stage, or when you have a full day of being an entrepreneur. Our central theme: What is essential in the day to day, to be able to show up in the ways that we do and with the “poder” that we exude in our respective fields? As Latinas, there are still times when we have to work harder to have our voices heard, recognized, and acknowledged in multiple facets of life. We'll uncover these themes & how they show up in our personal and professional lives to help understand how we take time to take care of & nurture our wellbeing, so that we can continue to nurture our communities and rewire our relationship to success, work, and wellness. About Tadin: Tadin Herb & Tea Co. was founded on one simple idea -- to respect and to share the time-honored tradition of using herbs as botanical remedies to promote overall wellbeing. Their goal is to serve the Hispanic comunidad by offering trusted, high quality herbal teas for this generation an the next. For over 40 years, they've embraced a careful commitment to crafting the best-tasting, approachably priced herbal teas to support their customers' healthy lifestyles. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/chatswithyvonne/support

Disney's Country Bear Jamboree has a much longer history than many people realize. What's next for the country bears in 2024, plus Disney Imagineering is slowly slipping further away from Walt Disney's approach to park theming. The Next Chapter in the Long History of Country Bear JamboreeCountry Bear Jamboree will be closing for a complete overhaul on January 27 and will re-open in the summer (no specific month yet) as the all-new Country Bear Musical Jamboree. As first announced at Destination D23 last summer, the Country Bears will return with a new show that pays tribute to the Opry style shows of Nashville. Disney promises quite a few Easter eggs throughout the show (including a familiar tune), as the bears sing new and reinterpreted Disney songs in different country music genres.Country Bear Jamboree has a long and interesting history. Walt Disney originally conceived the Country Bears concept in the 1960s to be part of the grandiose Mineral King Ski Resort project in California. This, of course, was never actually built. But the Country Bears idea was revived for Walt Disney World where it became one of the most popular marquee attractions when the Magic Kingdom opened in 1971.Editorial Rant: Current Disney Imagineers Continue to Stray Further from Walt Disney and Closer to UniversalOf interesting note in the Disney news story is that Disney continues to refer to this area -- including Tiana's Bayou Adventure -- as Frontierland. So, unfortunately, Disney Imagineers are ignoring trademark Disney Parks theming and slipping further towards a Universal type of fragmented-not-too-concerned-with-lands approach to design. I have often said that the current group of Imagineers is among the worst in Walt Disney World history, so hopefully at some point the sloppy Imagineering can be cleaned up and returned to earlier Disney standards.A lazy Imagineer is not a good Imagineer. So Bob Iger, please take a look at the lack of basic creative spark and ingenuity in your current Disney Imagineering Department.--Disneyland Lunar New Year Foodie GuideTop Food Picks from the 2024 Lunar New Year Event at Disney California AdventureFrom January 23 to February 18, the Lunar New Year Festival will turn Disney California Adventure Park into a vibrant destination with characters, entertainment, festive décor, merchandise and food. Disneyland Adventureland Treehouse will Return with a New Look in 2023There are more details about the future of the treehouse in Adventureland at Disneyland park. When it reopens in 2023 the Adventureland Treehouse will be themed after Walt Disney's Swiss Family Robinson tree house--just as it is in Walt Disney World. This is likely because Disney is working on a remake of the 1960 movie as a new Swiss Family series on Disney+.The renewed treehouse will have new environments created among the branches of the giant tree on the shores of the Jungle River. From the mother's music den to the young sons' nature room to the teenage daughter's astronomer's loft, everything is created from found objects, natural resources, and pure ingenuity (just like the Disney fairies do). Entrepreneur Jerry Sanders started his e-commerce business, Midsouth Coffee and Tea Co., out of frustration with his usual morning coffee run. Long lines at local coffee shops and the closure of his favorite café prompted him to figure out how to get that barista-grade cup of jo at home. With many people working remotely during the pandemic, Jerry's direct-to-consumer model took off faster than he was expecting. In this episode, Jerry shares how he started his business and successfully met the challenges of finding customers in a crowded market. He also talks about what it takes to quickly scale a business when you're not an expert in every department and why building relationships needs to be at the core of your growth strategy. Bio: Longleaf Tea Co. is rooted on land that has been cared for by our family for six generations. The land was originally home to massive old-growth Longleaf pine, which gave way to the timber and clay mining industries during the early 1900s, and since 2018 has been the home of one of the few tea fields in the USA. The old farmhouse and red barn have been a gathering place for over one hundred years. Now they watch over thousands of tea plants growing in the south Mississippi sun. Actor Gabriele Angieri of Burnsville went with his family to see the play “The Family Line” at the Capri Theater in Minneapolis. The 2-man show takes place entirely within a car, as a Jewish grandfather and his 15-year old biracial grandson meet for the first time and embark on a 24-hour road trip from Florida to Minnesota. The grandson, whose mother has just died, struggles with a sense of abandonment as his grandfather swoops into his life to deliver him to a new life in Minnesota with a father he does not know. Set in 2020 during the unrest in Minneapolis, it's a show interwoven with family secrets and social commentary that Angieri said sparked both laughter and tears, as well as an excellent discussion with his 12 year-old daughter afterward. “The Family Line” is the second show for Stage North, which launched in fall of 2021 with a focus on plays about urban life. Its shows are performed at the newly remodeled Capri Theater in North Minneapolis. Stage North has a partnership with Patrick Henry High School Drama Club, whose student members worked on the crew for the show. The show runs through April 17th, with 2 PM matinees Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday and evening shows Friday and Saturday at 7:30 PM. Fiber and textile artist Nora Rickey has enjoyed watching Cecilia Rolando's evolving art show at the Front Porch Coffee & Tea Co. in Ely. In place since January, the show has been extended through April, and Rolando has continued to add new work as pieces sell. Rolando's creative work is wide-ranging, from realistic watercolor florals to bold abstract paintings, from collages to jewelry to haiku. Rickey says the throughlines of the visual work on display are Rolando's vivid colors, which add to the warmth of the popular community coffee shop. If you miss the show at the Front Porch, Rolando's work is also on display at Art and Soul Gallery and Gift House down the street. Courtesy of Cecilia Rolando Cecilia Rolando and her work at Art and Soul gallery in Ely during a 2021 show. Bassist Rob Morgan clearly recalls the massive transition he made from music student to touring performer, and he's excited to see a theater version of that launching ground when the University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theater's BFA students mount “The School for Lies,” starting Friday. This will be the first time in two years that graduating seniors in the acting program will take to the Dowling Stage on the Guthrie's 9th floor. The play by David Ives is an adaptation of Moliere's classic comedy “Le Misanthrope,” so you can expect to see larger-than-life characters and drama with plenty of witty repartee. Scenes, costume, light, and sound were all designed by University of Minnesota faculty. The show runs through April 23.
OFR S2 | E16 In this episode we talk with Thomas Steinwinder, Longleaf Tea Co. Laurel, Miss. Great conversation about his love for tea and now the adventure on growing it commercially. A big undertaking that has big potential.

Bryon White is a self-professed “plant nerd.” Growing up in New Smyrna Beach on Florida's east coast, he got curious about the grove of yaupon holly bushes across the street from his family's home. So about a decade ago, Bryon did what any plant nerd would do: He turned to books. He learned that yaupon is native to the American Southeast, and that indigenous cultures have been brewing it for thousands of years. So Bryon got his younger brother, Kyle, on board—and the two got cookin'. Today, Bryon and Kyle White are the cofounders of Yaupon Brothers American Tea Co. Their tea comes in flavors like lavender coconut, citrus spice and Florida chai. Yaupon Brothers is one of a small handful of businesses marketing the caffeinated plant to folks who want an energy boost without the jitters that coffee sometimes brings. Bryon and Kyle have also worked with the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Science to develop yaupon as a supplemental crop for farmers struggling with citrus greening. The brothers and their small staff operate out of Edgewater, just a few miles from where they grew up—and thousands of miles from Asia and Africa, where the majority of the world's tea originates. Bryon and Kyle chat with host Dalia Colón about the benefits of drinking yaupon, what it tastes like and how their company gives back to Yaupon's Native American roots. You may hear some wine when Brian is speaking. That's because he was calling in from a field in Clarksdale, Mississippi, where he's working on a yaupon-related project. More on that later. If you enjoyed this conversation, then check out these related interviews:Café con Leche: Tampa History in a Cup (season 1, episode 12)Get Local with an Indigenous Cookbook (season 1, episode 25)

Conversations on being Black in America often center the experiences of African Americans, who descended from enslaved Africans brought to the US. Rarely are the experiences and perspectives of black immigrants and Caribbean Americans reflected in discussions about race and blackness in America. For today’s episode, we explore the diversity in the diaspora by welcoming Kerry-Ann Reid-Brown, host of the Carry On Friends podcast, which aims to elevate the voices of Caribbean Americans. During our conversation, we discuss the history and beauty of the Caribbean (31:00), what it means to be Black, Jamaican, and Caribbean American (39:40), and intra-group differences between Caribbean Americans (45:30). We also discuss Caribbean contributions to Black American culture (48:27), barriers to building community between African Americans and Caribbean Americans (56:07), and cultural transmission across generations (1:02:06). We close by discussing the impact of the current political climate on the experiences of Caribbean immigrants (1:07:25) and Kamala Harris’ Caribbean identity and heritage (1:19:20). Wise Ape is more than just a tea, it's a tribe of like minded individuals who are focused on self-evolution with an altruistic attitude. During his father's illness, this inspired Joe to figure out a way to help. Over the last few years, Joe took time and effort to research herbs and ingredients that help fight all sorts of ailments like inflammation, fatigue, etc. Thus, Wise Ape Tea was created, and now is a rising company that the Nothing But Grit Podcast FULLY STANDS BEHIND! Brand new episode. Featuring New Guest ***Griffin "Gil" Moore*** Snakeandtea@gmail.com Snake & Tea Co. Presents...
Barry Nalebuff believes that food and beverage entrepreneurs should focus on solving what he calls “a real problem.” When he co-founded organic beverage brand Honest Tea 20 years ago, that meant delivering healthier bottled drinks to consumers at a time when few such options existed. Nalebuff has since integrated that philosophy into other ventures, including alcoholic kombucha company Kombrewcha and Maker Oats, a new brand of organic overnight oats that he developed in partnership with Quaker Oaks. The ultimate goal, he says, is to transform an industry laden with unhealthy ingredients and formulations. “If you think about what people have put in our foods, do you think they’ve actually made us healthier?” he asked. “I’d like to be able to trust in my food companies. I want to make things that you can trust. I want to appeal to people who read labels.” In this week’s edition of Taste Radio, Nalebuff joined us for a wide-ranging conversation about his career as an entrepreneur and investor, including why premiumization has been an effective path to innovation, lessons learned from early missteps at Honest Tea, and how he views Maker Oats as fitting into Americans’ daily routines. Also included in this episode: An interview with Will Willis, co-founder of Boston-based craft distillery Bully Boy Distillers. Willis, who launched Bully Boy in 2011 with his brother Dave, discussed his journey in the fast-growing business of craft spirits, including their initial foray into the space, how the industry has evolved over the past six years and what he’s learned along the way. And in the latest edition of Elevator Talk, we sit down with Ryan Close, the creator of Bartesian, a countertop machine described as the “Keurig for Cocktails.” Show notes: ‘Cause I’m Eating on a Jetplane: In just a few days, the team will be heading out to Santa Monica for BevNET Live, Brewbound Session and NOSH Live. Most of us will probably make a beeline to the In N’ Out near LAX as soon as we land. But how, pray tell, will we nourish ourselves during the journey? The hosts discuss some go-to snacks and drinks when flying, including Barnana, Biena Snacks, Monfefo, Temple Turmeric and Terra Chips. Interview: Barry Nalebuff, Co-Founder, Honest Tea, Kombrewcha, Maker Oats -- Nalebuff recently joined BevNET CEO John Craven and Project NOSH editor Carol Ortenberg at BevNET HQ for a wide-ranging conversation about his career as an entrepreneur and investor. Nalebuff, who’s also a professor of management at Yale University, explained his innovation philosophy, beginning with Honest Tea and later with Kombrewcha and Maker Oats, how entrepreneurs can empower designers to best align branding and packaging with their visions and why it’s critical for him to work with people that he “totally trusts.” Interview: Will Willis, Co-Founder, Bully Boy Distillers -- As the market for craft spirits continues to develop, we’ve stayed curious about the segment and its parallels to emerging categories in food and non-alcoholic beverages. So when we were invited to visit Bully Boy Distillers, an urban craft distillery located in Boston, we figured it was a good opportunity to chat about the business with folks in the trenches. John and Ray recently checked out Bully Boy and met with co-founder Will Willis. Elevator Talk: Ryan Close, Co-Founder, Bartesian -- Close is the co-founder of Bartesian, a Keurig-type machine that makes cocktails on demand. We met up with Close last month in L.A. and recorded this edition of Elevator Talk. Brands in this episode: Barnana, Biena, Monfefo, Temple Turmeric, Terra Chips, Honest Tea, Kombrewcha, Calicraft, Maker Oats, Bully Boy, Bartesian For sponsorship opportunities, feedback and suggestions, contact ask@tasteradio.com.
Today’s episode of the Happy Half Hour is sponsored by the upcoming SoNo Fest & Chili Cook-off. We’re joined by Waypoint Public chef Rich Sweeney and SoNo co-organizer Brijet Myers to chat about the 8th annual event that includes nearly 40 restaurants making chili, plus a holiday craft market, craft beer, and more on December 3 at the intersection of 32nd and Thorn streets in between North and South Park. Even better, the event raises money for McKinley Elementary School’s Spanish, art, and music program. In Hot Plates, Erin Chambers Smith and Troy Johnson are talking about City Tacos’s expansion to La Mesa and a revamped downtown hotel with three food concepts from The Patio Group. And Troy tells us about the fifth taste known as “umami” and what he thinks the sixth taste is. Today’s guest is Mad Monk Tea co-founder Taylor Drye who explains what single-origin tea is all about. In Two People/$50, we’re recommending UnderBelly and Plant Power.
In this episode of #MindOverMatterPod, we have the owner and founder of Ivy's Tea Shanae Jones. Ivy’s Tea Co. is different from other tea shops in two ways because it is owned and operated by an herbalist and every tea has been handcrafted by Shanae. We sat and talked about how Ivy Tea's began, gentrification in DC, how hip hop has been instrumental in her life, and more. This was a episode I thoroughly enjoyed recording. Please press play and enjoy.

The 28th episode is with Enterprise Nation member and co-founder of Bluebird Tea Co. Krisi Smith. With her partner Mike, tea mixologist and Enterprise Nation member Krisi founded Bluebird Tea Co. The couple are on a mission to do what other people do with cocktails but using tea blends instead. Big and unusual flavours are their thing with combos like rhubarb and custard, cherry bakewell and mulled cider alongside more familiar blends such as Earl Grey and English breakfast. Adamant that it would be a retail business above everything else, the entrepreneurs turned down offers from supermarkets including Waitrose and Tesco and now have three of their own stores in Brighton, Bristol and Tunbridge Wells, a successful e-commerce platform, a team of 30 people and have recently taken on their second warehouse. That all seems a very long way from the oh-so-familiar spare bedroom operation that kicked it all off.

In addition, Joffrey's will develop special blends exclusive to Disney and resort hotel rooms will all have a catalog where guests can purchase Joffrey's products to take home. These changes will be complete within the next few months. Just to give you an idea how quickly Limited time magic goes, we have had two events go since our last recording. And two more events come and go. What has ended is Golden Horseshoe Review Tribute and the New Orleans Bayou Bash. What has COME and go meaning the event happened and is now gone Lunar New Year at DCA and True Love Week Extended hours at DCA on Thursdays. 2 extra hours to enjoy. Finally it seems that they will now start enforcing fastpass return times as they recently did in Florida. Of course this draws outrage from the fan community which frankly I don't understand. Signs has gone up although I understand the enforcement is not actually in place yet. Signs are up merely to start getting passholders used to the idea.
