Welcome back to our series on money and pricing! Today, we'll dive into the psychology of pricing—a topic that fascinates me! Key Takeaways from this episode: Understanding Pricing Psychology: Pricing psychology is about presenting your prices in a way that's most appealing to potential customers, increasing the likelihood of them purchasing your services. For instance, have you ever noticed prices often end in .99 instead of rounding up to a whole number, like $2.00? This is because our brains anchor to the leftmost digit; $1.99 feels much cheaper than $2.00. NOTE: this isn't about "tricking" customers, but is simply understanding how the human brain perceives prices so you can present your prices in a way that is most psychologically pleasing to a potential customer. (Check out Nick Kolenda's website at Kolenda.io for extensive resources on pricing psychology.) Payment Timing Matters: It can be psychologically easier for clients if they don't pay at the time of service. Think about structuring your payment systems so clients pay upfront or at a different time than their service. By doing this, you can ease the sense of loss associated with paying, allowing clients to focus on the value they are receiving at the time of your service. Combatting Buyer's Remorse: After a client commits financially, it's vital to reassure them that they made the right decision. This can be as simple as sending a follow-up email filled with valuable information that excites them about the upcoming service. In my nature-based practice, we send a welcome packet shortly after families sign up their child for services. This welcome packet includes essential details about what to expect and introduces their therapist, helping clients perceive value from our upcoming services and feel good about their investment right from the start. TL;DR: Check out Kolenda.io for more on marketing and pricing psychology, consider structuring your payment processes to ease the psychological burden on clients, and always aim to reassure and provide value immediately after clients pay for services. Justin and Jim analyze Kolenda's comparison between New Testament miracles and modern-day charismatic claims, particularly focusing on the authenticity of such signs and wonders. They argue that true biblical miracles were undeniable, even to non-believers, while modern charismatic acts often resemble parlor tricks. The discussion further addresses the theological implications and the historical context of cessationism, emphasizing the importance of discerning genuine miracles from deceptive practices.Cessationist FilmCessationist ConferenceShow Me The Toes

Chris gave up his commission as a full Colonel in Afghanistan to assist three, four-star generals and two Secretaries of State to try to negotiate with the Taliban. He was the only combat officer ever asked to do so. The lessons he learned he's applied to both business and charity. Chris specializes in helping leaders, entrepreneurs, and our “wounded warriors.” We talk about the readily-transferable leadership traits that lead to success in private business, including the great discipline and self-accountability that we encounter in most officers. But then there is the difficulty in moving from a world where feedback from below is rarely solicited—and Chris demonstrates how that can best be accomplished—to one where it's essential to listen to subordinates and customers. He explains his battlefield webinars where executives learn “on the ground” why battles were won or lost, and then examine what those principles mean in their own businesses and lives. You'll hear about Chris's remarkable work with wounded warriors and his Saber Six charity, including a 1,700-mile bike ride to visit the gravesites of six men from his unit who died in battle. We also chat about whether the military and private business have grown too “top heavy” with general officers and business executives, and what that means for effectiveness and efficiency. You'll be hearing this not too far removed from Memorial Day in the U.S., so the conversation provides an excellent opportunity to reflect on others' service and our own.

At the gravesites, Kolenda, a member of the Rotary Club of Milwaukee, met with the men's family and friends to salute them and celebrate everything their lives embodied. This audio version of a story by Bryan Smith in the March 2023 issue of Rotary magazine is narrated by Scott Thomas.

SUMMARY A lifelong Cavalry Trooper, retired US army Colonel, Chris Kolenda graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1987 and went on to serve in various assignments, including commanding 800 paratroopers in Eastern Afghanistan. He served as a senior advisor to three of the 4-star generals in Afghanistan and two Secretaries of Defense before transitioning out of service in 2011 to become the Secretary of Defense representative in the peace talks with the Taliban. Chris then returned to Afghanistan as a civilian to support General Dunford as his Senior Advisor. In 2014 Chris resigned from his government position and began to pursue his business and consulting interest in leadership and organizational management. Chris continues to operate his successful consulting firm, Strategic Leaders Academy, and shares how his 1700-mile bicycle ride to honor his unit's six paratroopers who lost their lives in Afghanistan led to the founding of the Saber Six Foundation. The honor ride and the foundation are focused on honoring the dead and raising funds for the living. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS 00:01:09– 00:10:39: Retired US Army Colonel, Chris Kolenda shares his military career as a warrior and a diplomat before transitioning out of service to become the Secretary of Defense representative in the peace talks with the Taliban. 00:10:40 – 00:15:19 Chris discusses why he chose to start his own business rather than join a company as an employee after leaving the government and how the sense of purpose one gets from serving in the military is not the same as serving a for-profit company. 00:15:20 – 00:23:29 Chris shares how he prepared for transition and the lack thereof and why he decided to start his own consulting firm in 2014 rather than work for an existing firm. 00:23:30 – 00:33:09. Chris shares his life after the military and how working for himself allows him to do things like his 1700-mile bicycle ride to visit the graves of the six soldiers from his unit that died in 2007 while serving in Afghanistan. He also discusses the challenges veterans face after leaving the military and why balance is giving time to each priority in your life and being fully present when you do so. Your Move Show resources: There is a complete shift in culture when you transition from the military to the corporate world. The focus is no longer on readiness nor even on not losing money —it's always about making money. It makes sense and, is in most ways, obvious. It's the reason companies are in business—to make money. But the cultural shift is enormous. • They had his back in the war. Now he has theirs as they struggle in peacetime • “The paratroopers from our unit are entering the most dangerous periods of their lives” (Total Recorded Time is 16:30) Chris Kolenda went for a bike ride this autumn. But not just the usual around-the-block thing. Mr. Kolenda rode his bicycle for nearly 1,700 miles –from a cemetery in Nebraska to the nation's most prominent cemetery –Arlington. A retired Army colonel, Mr. Kolenda wanted to honor the memories of six men killed in action while under his command in Afghanistan in 2007. And he hoped to raise funds for miliary families where the veteran is struggling -- sometimes fighting drugs, sometimes depression, post- traumatic stress or other ailments. Mr. Kolenda also used his ride to call attention to the problem of suicide among military veterans. One estimate says 22 veterans take their own lives every day. He points to another problem: communications. “One of the challenges we've had is we on the veteran side don't communicate very well with society about our experiences,” he says. “There's this sort of expectation that veterans don't talk about their experiences. And then on the society part, we don't know how to ask veterans about their experiences.” Watch the Bizgnus Interview here: https://youtu.be/IVD3Oa9r-Ow On his journey, he visited the graves of the six soldiers from his Afghanistan unit who were killed in action: Donations made during the ride went to the Saber Six Foundation, a Milwaukee-based nonprofit that helps the 800 paratroopers from Mr. Kolenda's Afghanistan military unit (1-91 CAV, 173rd Airborne), also known as Task Force SABER. Over 7,000 American service members were killed in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. In the wars' aftermath, over 30,000 post-9/11 veterans have died by suicide. Mr. Kolenda's unit has lost more to suicide and substance abuse than were killed in combat. “I can't see this happening and do nothing about it,” says Mr. Kolenda. “The paratroopers from our unit are entering the most dangerous periods of their lives. In 15 years, I want to see our unit's veterans and their families alive and thriving.” During his military career, now-retired Army Col. Mr. Kolenda was the first American to have both fought the Taliban as a commander in combat and negotiated with them in peace talks. He and his unit also motivated a large insurgent group to switch sides, the only example of such success in the 20-year history of the war. For more information: HonorRide.us

What can wartime leaders throughout history teach us about effective leadership? In this episode I had the honor of sitting down with Retired U.S. Army Colonel, Christopher D. As an active U.S. Army Colonel, Christopher Kolenda — a West Point graduate — led 800 paratroopers stationed in Afghanistan. Six of his soldiers were killed under his command. The loss of his troops and the lessons he learned about effective leadership during his storied military career are front and center in Col. Kolenda's mind this Memorial Day. Col. Kolenda is the author of Leadership: The Warrior's Art and Zero-Sum Victory: What We're Getting Wrong About War. He is also the founder of Strategic Leaders Academy, which works with leaders who want to apply insights from history and military operations to transform their businesses. Whether on the battlefields of Afghanistan or in the trenches of American businesses, Col. Kolenda says that victory depends on a three-legged foundation: Leadership, Culture, and Strategy. If your business lacks any one of these, he tells host and award-winning author Dean Rotbart, you are forfeiting the competitive advantage. AT THE GATES OF HELL PART 32 WHEN THE PERPS (BAD GUYS) GET MAD AND WANT TO STOP YOU who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.1Peter? Spiritual Warfare Thank you for joining me in this exciting journey through God’s Word. I wrote this book to help Christians understand what Scripture says about spiritual warfare, both now and into the prophetic end times. My hope and prayer is that as you read this book, you will attain… • a better understanding of spiritual warfare and how knowledge of this warfare can benefit your life spiritually, emotionally, and even physically; • an awareness— perhaps for the first time in your life— of the specific tactics Satan is most likely to use against you this year and the years that follow as we move into the end times; • insights into the ways Satan can gain a stronghold in your life— as well as what you can do to prevent it and what you can do if he already has one; • an understanding about the gang attack— composed of the world, the flesh, and the devil— that daily confronts you; • an awareness of how satanic and demonic attacks will intensify in the end times, especially in the years that immediately precede the second coming of Christ; • a strong conviction about how staying close to Jesus is one of the most important factors in your victory in spiritual warfare. (The sheep who are the safest from the wolves are those who stay nearest the Shepherd.) Jesus’ victory becomes our victory; • insights about the pivotal role of the Holy Spirit (the “Spirit of truth”) in overcoming the devil (the “father of lies”); • an understanding of how to daily get dressed in God’s armor, which will keep you safe in the trenches of spiritual warfare; • a strong conviction about the strategic importance of prayer in overcoming the archenemy of our souls; • a strong conviction about the strategic importance of God’s Word in standing against— and defeating— the archenemy of our souls; • insights about God’s holy angels and how God uses these invisible secret agents behind the scenes to protect you and bring blessing into your life; • an exalted view of the supreme majesty, glory, and power of Jesus Christ; • a strong conviction that God will one day bring a mighty triumph over all the powers 60 From THE LIVE RAGGED EDGE RADIO BROADCAST/SHATTER LIVE TV WEBINAR RUSS DIZDAR © Rhodes, Ron (2020-11-24). Spiritual Warfare in the End Times (Kindle Locations 106-117). Harvest House Publishers. Kindle Edition. This approach is intentional. The internal war is the one most people neglect, and it is also where most people fall. If you are defeated within, you will never have authority over the external world. Once you have brought your mind into the right way of thinking, submitted yourself to God, and clothed yourself in His armor, it is time to bring His kingdom into every corner of the world. That is our calling and purpose, as discussed in chapter 5. Second Corinthians 10:4 contains this powerful parenthetical statement: “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds” (KJV). What are these weapons? You might immediately think of the armor of God in Ephesians 6, which we have already discussed. But remember, this list contains only one offensive weapon—the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. The rest of the gear is strictly defensive (i.e., they are not listed as weapons). Yet Paul says that we have mighty spiritual weapons (plural) for waging warfare and pulling down strongholds. The question remains, what are these weapons? First, as I argued in chapter 6, it’s important to keep in mind that Paul’s teaching on the armor of God is not meant to be taken too strictly. Paul’s metaphor approximates God’s armor in Isaiah 59:15–18. It indicates a readiness for battle against evil and injustice. For us as well, clothing ourselves in spiritual armor is an indication we are on the warpath against evil. But obviously believers have many powerful weapons in our arsenal beyond those listed in Ephesians 6. The Bible does not always use the military metaphor, but many of the virtues and gifts listed throughout Scripture are still mighty weapons for warfare. Kolenda, Daniel. Jesus. God says to the serpent, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel” (Gen. 3:15). Christ, the offspring of Eve, would crush the head of that old serpent. Christ’s body was mortally wounded in the process, but He rose from the dead in victory! His death was but a strike to the heel. On the other hand, Satan was defeated over and over by Jesus during His earthly life. Then at the cross he was utterly conquered with no hope of ever rising again to victory. His head was totally crushed. Even now, as he continues to ravage the world with sickness, disease, temptation, and all kinds of evil, he is a completely vanquished and defeated foe. His only power is what we give him. Although Satan’s ultimate defeat came through the death and resurrection of Christ, Jesus beat the devil soundly at every turn throughout His earthly life. Jesus demonstrated for us what it is to walk in victory. 22 From THE LIVE RAGGED EDGE RADIO BROADCAST/SHATTER LIVE TV WEBINAR RUSS DIZDAR © He gave His disciples authority to walk in that same victory over sin, Satan, and evil. For Nearly two decades America has been in war with Afghanistan. Join us with Ret. Colonel Chris Kolenda, the man who pioneered a new approach to counterinsurgency, led soldiers in successful battles against the Taliban and was later hand picked by the US government to be involved in early talks with the Taliban. We will cover the impact of the war, how it can be ended, and recent events with our military that have made headlines. Moderated by former Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson. Ret. Colonel Christopher Kolenda recently served as the Senior Advisor on Afghanistan and Pakistan to Under Secretary of Defense Michèle Flournoy, and three 4* Generals in Afghanistan. He was decorated with the Department of Defense's highest civilian award for his work on strategy. In 2007-08, he commanded an 800-solider task force in Kunar and Nuristan provinces where he pioneered an innovative approach to counterinsurgency in one of the most violent areas of the country. His unit is the only one in the history of the war to have motivated a large insurgent group to stop fighting and join the government. His advice has been adopted by three Secretaries of Defense and the President of the United States. He was selected to be the Secretary of Defense's representative in exploratory talks with the Taliban from 2010-2013. He is the only American to have fought the Taliban in combat and engaged them in high-level diplomacy. Secretary Jeh Johnson was appointed by President Obama on December 23, 2013, following confirmation by the U.S. Senate by a vote of 78-16. Between 2013 and 2017 he served as Secretary of Homeland Security. Previously, Secretary Johnson was appointed by President Obama to be General Counsel of the Department of Defense from 2009 through 2012. In that position, Johnson was one of the legal architects for the U.S. military's counter terrorism mission during President Obama's first term. Josh is a friend from my travels that I had the pleasure of befriending earlier this year in January. In the one evening I spent with my cousin in a Hostel down in San Diego, Josh stuck out to me with his stories of adventure. Inspiring, hilarious, and downright scary at points, I knew Josh had something to offer to my audience. Hailing from Toronto, Josh spends his free time traveling the world. When I met him earlier this year, he was playing volleyball competitively up and down the beaches of Southern California and just bouncing from city to city, sometimes sleeping in his car. His adventurous lifestyle is what I loved about the guy and when he told me about his battle with heart issues his whole life, I was blown away. Living with only 2 functioning chambers in heart (a normal heart has 4) he has never let that slow him down. His mindset of "I'd rather die on my feet" has kept him pushing through life with amazing stories to tell along the way.

Christopher Kolenda, senior fellow at the Center for Global Policy, answers questions from CGP senior fellow Kamran Bokhari on current political and security conditions in Afghanistan. Kolenda, who has first-hand experience in fighting alongside Afghan forces, discusses the government forces' capabilities and challenges as well as the militant landscape in Afghanistan and how regional interests shape the situation in the country. Kolenda says the main militant groups in Afghanistan are the Islamic State-Khorasan Province, the Afghan Taliban, the Pakistani Taliban and a handful of other actors. The Islamic State's Afghan franchise is trying to gain a strong foothold in the country and has claimed responsibility for recent high-profile suicide bombings. Many members are disillusioned Taliban fighters who decided to join the Islamic State. The Afghan Taliban are the government's main opponent -- and though some try to say that all Taliban fighters are from Pakistan, Kolenda says there are plenty of Afghan Taliban fighters. Moreover, in some areas, residents prefer the Taliban to Afghan government forces and cooperate with the militants more easily. Al Qaeda remains in Afghanistan as well, and has maintained a tenuous relationship with the Afghan Taliban. The Pakistani Taliban's focus is disruption in Pakistan and Afghanistan, not ruling Afghanistan. On an international level, Kolenda says, Afghanistan remains important to numerous Asian powers. The longstanding rivalry between Pakistan and Afghanistan has led Islamabad to seek influence over its neighbor. Iran's interests in Afghanistan are on many different levels, from cultural to geopolitical. For instance, Tehran wants to support Kabul in order to balance Saudi Arabia's support for Pakistan. Russia, in the meantime, wants to curtail the spillover of any militant violence from Afghanistan into the Central Asian countries. Afghanistan's internal situation remains volatile. Kolenda says a power-sharing deal is not likely to end the conflict; historically, such deals in Afghanistan have led to more wars. But at some point, the war -- the longest in American history -- will have to end, even if it takes a protracted process of negotiations among international, national-level and local-level groups.
