In Part Two of my conversation with Robert Waggoner we discuss his “go-to” methods for inducing lucidity, which in addition to the wake-and-back-to-bed method is largely about creating a lucid mindset. Robert shares his advice for how to work with discouragement, and suggests being “playfully persistent,” relating to the entire lucidity project as a game. In other words, lighten up, relax and have fun -- “Loosen up dude.” Take a break. We talk about the importance of honoring and valuing our non-lucid dreams and their symbolism, the relationship of lucid dreaming to hypnosis, and then how to work with fear – which can subliminally derail our lucid dreams. The conversation then turns to how lucid dreaming can be used for healing, with some remarkable stories that support this claim. Robert is that rare being who has dedicated his life to lucid dreaming, and his passion for this topic is contagious.

The Deal With Denim

What's Up? What's the haps fashion friends?! We are getting down with denim this week! Holly's been getting so many questions and emails...are skinny jeans out? Are they over? What if I don't like flare? Did you know that for 150 years – that's right, one hundred and fifty years – denim has been a staple of the American wardrobe? Don't get caught in the hype of what people say is “trending” for jeans, because this is a staple in your wardrobe that will not change - unless your specific body type changes. On this week's episode of the Fashion Crimes Podcast, Holly will clear up any denim confusion, misconception, bewilderment or skepticism right here and right now.  We also talk about a fun vintage shopping adventure and some client styling projects she has been working on.  First, Holly reminds us that the fashion cycles run on 20 years. So, what the hell does that mean? It means what was popular 20 years ago, is popular again now because people who were not born 20 years ago, are seeing the trend for the first time.  #ugh #teenagers #sonotyoung Now, in the case of denim, what we're seeing now is that LOW RISE FLAIR denim is back.  #omg #pleasestop Sorry to say it, but it was popular in the 70s. It was popular in the 90s. And now, it's popular again. Just to be clear: this particular denim trend skews pretty young.  Like really young. Like baby-young. As a popular personal stylist, Holly has been getting a lot of questions lately asking about this particular trend, and if people should try them. For the love of GOD, skinny jeans are not out.  People need to know what the jean trends are! All you need to know if this; just say no to crack; not a good look. Holly has explained this on many occasions, so just remember.  Whatever body type is your body type, that is the type of jeans you need.  Jeans that fit you properly will never go out of style. Live it, learn it, love it. So, if you love high-waisted jeans that are skinny, and that's the support you need for your specific body type - that will never go out of style, FOR YOU. Don't buy into the trend hype. Denim never goes out of style. But here are come key guidelines to consider when choosing your jeans: Shop for Fit: What is the support you need? Are you extra tall? Are you extra short? Are you thick in the middle? Do you need but support?  Find the fit you want then the colors you like within that style. Color: Holly likes to tell her clients they need a couple of light jeans, a couple of dark, and one or two pair of black jeans. Your jeans should be different brands not all the same. And try to get a variation of colors and rinses if possible. Price Points: Expensive does not mean better. You can spend $278 on a pair of jeans or you can spend $78 on a pair of jeans. Why? Because of the garment construction and the treatment of the fabric. The more involved the dye process is the more expensive they will be. Shop within your budget, If you're not sure how to do this; just send an email.  And what is a Denim Fashion Crime? JEGGINGS. Holly starts using her swear words when she gets to the part in the episode about jeggings. You'll see. DON'T DO IT. Next, Holly shares her adventures from the Manhattan Vintage Show, featuring vintage dealers that are pretty high end from all over the country. It was a clothing explosion – and total sensory overload - but, oh so fabulous! Like Candy Land for clothes. Holly shares a key insight about vintage or secondhand denim – or any item – and that is things were made a long time ago. So of course, they're not going to fit the same as they would now. If you're buying to wear, do not buy or purchase any jeans or items that are vintage or secondhand unless you could try them on.  Fun Finds for Holly? A new BFFF (best fashion friend forever) from Etéreo Vintage; and #YvesSaintLaurent dress; chunky and huge statement jewelry; hats, furs, leathers from all eras – basically everything she saw. Check out the Holly Katz Styling Instagram for photos! The fun of the vintage show, and a styling tip to consider, is it is a great way to build on your style collection. If you are struggling with having your style evolve, going to some place like a vintage store or a consignment store might just spark some interest in you and give you a little inspiration! Build a collection of things you love, things that speak to you and things that – of course – fit you well. It's an investment in YOU and your fashion happiness. You got this. And speaking of happy, Holly has been working her style magic with some special clients this week. Holly helps many clients virtually via her Pinterest Boards, to help guide them on what to wear and where to buy things.  The shared Boards a fun way to visually see key pieces or whole outfits.  But sometimes, clients panic a bit after purchasing one or two items and then aren't sure what to wear them with. Holly wants you all to calm the down. Don't be afraid to mix your jackets with your pants and skirts. Loosen the reins a little bit and don't overthink it. Don't trip up on the details of coordinating every single thing down to the shoe. And not to stress you out more, but Holly is here to remind you that the holidays are coming up and Hanukkah is super early this year! Don't wait to start planning or shopping for your holiday wardrobe, or you will be one #hotmess.  Stay tuned for the fabulous gift guide coming soon! The following mp3 contains a guided higher self-meditation, as well as information on how to reconnect with your higher self using the seven spiritual ideas that can be used to reconnect with your universal intelligence as the creator and author of your life. I hope you find this lesson, as well as the guided meditation, to be extremely beneficial. I've also included the Higher self-meditation script so that you can contemplate the deeper meanings and ideas for change that have been revealed to you. Everyone is on this planet for a reason, and it is your responsibility to discover what that reason is. This is done in order for the universe, which is the primary creator of your life, to open up a path for you. The Universe is made up entirely of pure intelligence, and it responds to your current mental state. Learn more about the Guided Higher Self Meditation and the 7 Spiritual Ideas For Change Here... Higher Self Meditation Script Beginning Of Script Assume a comfortable position. Shut your eyes as you start relaxing. Take in a deep breath, now breathe out, emptying your lungs entirely. And once again. Take full deep breaths, never strained or rushed. Breathe in strength, breathe out tension. Carry on to relax. Take full deep breaths. Allow your breathing to discover its own natural, unhurried pace. And as ideas enter your mind, allow them to go without attachment. Just as the sun wakens us to a fresh day, the spirit of the higher power inside awakens us to divine glory in all creation. This glory, inside and around us, is every place we look and in every situation we encounter. With your heart-centered in the higher power, you are able to quiet your thoughts and meditate on the wonder of all creation and your oneness with it. Take a deep breath, become comfortable, and gently release the cares of the day. Your sole purpose at this minute is to experience the higher power … and you begin to do so now as you relax in prayer and hold these words in your heart: I awaken to your spirit inside me and see your presence active in all creation. Your breathing is unstrained. Relax your toes and feet. Relax your ankles and knees. Relax your leg muscles. Your breathing is deep and relaxing. Relax your fingers and hands. Loosen up your wrists and elbows. Relax your arms. Your breathing is slow and peaceful. Feel your feet and legs get heavy and warm. Feel your hands and arms get warm and heavy. Simply breathe as your thoughts come and go. Center on your breathing. Let go of tension as your body falls into a state of peaceful quiet. Unclench your jaw. Relax your face and let go of your tongue. Your heartbeat and breathing are serene and steady. Your breathing is relaxed. Void your mind of all thoughts. Your abdomen is soft and warm, your limbs are heavy and warm. Watch your thoughts come and go like clouds in the sky. Your hands are warm, your forehead is cool, and your breathing is deep and relaxed. Feel your breath sink lower and lower into your lungs. As your shoulders drop, feel your breath fill the upper part of your chest. You're relaxed and peaceful. Your breathing is deep and relaxed. Warm hands, cool forehead. Empty your lungs totally. Hear the silence grow as your mind hushes. You are relaxed, calm, and centered. Your heart rate and breathing are calm and steady. Warm hands, cool forehead. Your breathing is deep and relaxed. Enjoy the quiet. When you know it is time to leave this place, begin to return. Let your breathing bring you back. Gently take a couple of deep breaths. Pause a moment. Remember one last time that you can return to this place any time you wish. It may only be for a moment, but it will remind you of the sense of peace that's yours. Open your eyes. Feel the goodness of the meditation for a few moments. End Of Script Meditation is one of the most effective methods of connecting with your Higher Self on a consciously conscious level. Meditation Success: 10 Easy Guidelines You Can Use Today Your higher consciousness does not exist in a separate realm from you. It's always there, no matter what. It is the higher aspect of your consciousness that has a high vibrational frequency, and it is characterized by this. In fact, it is only when you have feelings of love and profound gratitude, as well as genuine forgiveness, that you can truly live from your Higher Self consciousness. As a result, the meditation that is intended to assist you in connecting with your higher self is focused first and foremost on raising your vibrational frequency. To meet with your Higher Self, you can either use guided meditations or meditate on your own by tuning into a profound state of gratitude for your life and setting an intention to meet with your Higher Self. Consider a setting that is tranquil and peaceful, a place that you enjoy being in. It is not a case of 'doing it,' allow yourself to relax into the process and 'Be' a part of it. 28 Mindfulness Techniques And Ideas To Enhance Your Life Your Higher Self can appear to you as a physical presence, such as your very best friend sitting beside you, if that's what you prefer. Another option is to visualize yourself surrounded by warm, loving energy. Once you sense the presence of your Higher Self, you are free to ask any questions you want about anything you want. The Higher Self is not a judge or a critic in any way. Be open to any and all responses you receive, regardless of what they may feel like at the time. Remember that your responses may be delivered through a variety of means, including words, feelings, images, or sensations, among others. Keep an open mind to whatever comes your way. Write down everything that comes online because things might become clear after a while, either in your waking state through coincidences or in your dreams. So, schedule a meeting with your higher self to discuss what is going on in your life. Ask big questions from the perspective of your "big self." Because of the guidance provided by your higher self-meditation, your life will take on a whole new meaning – and, in some cases, a completely different direction. Enjoy! _________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ Help me, help you! Let's build this together. Brenda Lee - Takin' What I Can Get (1976) Carla Bley - Rawalpindi Blues (1971) From the great artist herself. The first piece we wanted to record was RAWALPINDI BLUES, which featured Jack Bruce and trumpet player Don Cherry, but it seemed impossible to get them both in New York at the same time. By the time Jack could get away (he was working almost every night in London with Tony Williams' band) Don had to leave for commitments in Europe. So we split the music into two parts and recorded Don's parts first. This actually enhanced the piece since it was intended to be a dialogue between Eastern and Western cultures. The first session, featuring Don Cherry and the “eastern band”, took place on Nov. 30th, 1970...The band's improvised sections were of the highest quality, rare and effortless. Don left the country the next day and on Dec. 7th Jack arrived and went right into the studio and recorded for 2 days and nights almost straight through. Luckily John McLaughlin was also in town so we were able to use him on electric guitar. With Jack on bass guitar, Paul Motian on drums and myself on organ, we had the “western band”  Again, I was amazed at how great the playing was. We finished up RAWALPINDI BLUES and also recorded BUSINESSMEN, DETECTIVE WRITER DAUGHTER, parts of … AND IT'S AGAIN, and a few other bits and pieces. Jack and John went back to London and I settled down to putting RAWALPINDI BLUES together. After listening to the material we had so far I decided to bring in another singer to do parts of RAWALPINDI BLUES that hadn't been suitable for Jack or Don. I needed someone who could slide his voice around. Steve Ferguson, formerly of NRBQ, was a country singer from Kentucky, but I heard a connection between the way Steve moved his voice and the way it's done in Eastern music. He came in on Dec. 18th and it worked out well.  Using the best of the things we had so far, we put a tape together. RAWALPINDI BLUES was really difficult to mix. We had indiscriminately filled up all 16 tracks right at the beginning and then crammed in other elements wherever there was the slightest space. So when we finally got down to mixing it, it was all hands on the board and took two full days. One of the most un-nerving and time-consuming parts was a process I used a few times called cross-fading, which involved mixing two 16-track tapes down to a 2-track tape all at once. They used to flinch at RCA when we called in and told them how many machines we would need that day. From then on we tried to keep things simpler. We didn't want Ray Hall to grow old before his time. We ended up calling it (the album) a chronotransduction, which was a word coined by Sherry Speeth, a scientist friend of Paul's (Paul Haines, the lyricist), although we still call it opera for short. I find this whole album amazing, frustrating, thrilling, devastating. I LOVE Jack Bruce on this. Linda Ronstadt sings on this album as well. I highly recommend it. "Hotel Overture" might be the most amazing horn-playing (French horn player Bob Carlisle) I've heard on record.  Chuck Berry - Little Marie (1964) Sort a sequel to "Memphis". No, it's a sequel to "Memphis".  Dave Clark and Friends - I'm Sorry Baby (1972) Davey Johnstone & China - One Way Ticket (1977) Ass-kicking music from Elton John's band. I love it. Released on his label.  Frank Sinatra - Everybody's Twistin' (1962) Dolly Parton & Porter Wagoner - Mendy Never Sleeps (1970) Even before my time, Dolly Parton was a young talent brought into the fold of Nashville society by Porter Wagoner, more or less, by starting out as a singer on his TV show. She was too talented, too gifted a songwriter and singer, too unconventionally beautiful, and too ambitious to stay there for long, even though she stayed two years past her initial agreement. Dutifully, she stayed longer than she should have, and in fact, the hit "I Will Always Love You" was written for him.  Petula Clark - L'Agent Secret (1969) Bill Haley and the Comets - A Little Piece At A Time (1971) Billy Thorpe - Drive My Car (1975) His next album would be his breakthrough and zenith in the US, "Children of the Sun".  Kevin Coughlin - I Gotta Be Me (1969) Soupy Sales - Muck-Arty Park (1969) From the album, "A Bag of Soup". Soupy Sales was a television comedian whose antics delighted children and enraged adults. He flirted with mainstream success with comic pop songs on television and radio, but in the end remained a cult personality, albeit one who pushed the envelope of what was possible in TV comedy. He played a big role in the growth of "pie-in-the-face" comedy.  The Residents - Elvis and His Boss (1978) Tom Jones - Never Had a Lady (1979) Me singing over an instrumental song I programmed.  Noel Harrison - A Young Girl (1969) Coca-Cola - Keep Things Jumping (?) Burgess Meredith - The Capture (1966) Played The Penguin in the TV series with Adam West. There was a whole series of Batman records released to promote the 1966 TV series where they got the actors from the show to do these "in character" songs.  The Cowsills - The Milk Song (1969) This is the band that served as the prototype for The Partridge Family. But the mother was not seen as attractive enough. So Shirley Jones would have to be the one to sing "Whale Song" and make me feel funny. Down there. I didn't understand these feelings.  Datsun - All You Really Need (1972?) The Dave Pell Singers - Oh, Calcutta (1972) Oh, Calcutta was an off-Broadway musical that got pretty bad reviews but thrived in the era of flower-power as a corporate weapon. Loosen up, brother!! Anyhow, it enjoyed a long run, eventually reaching Broadway, with revivals running for years and years. One skit's first draft was written by John Lennon of The Beatles.  Stereo Speaker Test (?) Dick Clark - The Wasting of Wesley Joe Grimm (1969) John & Ernest - Super Fly Meets Shaft (1973) Produced by Dickie Goodman, the then-king of the cut-in record.  The Garden Club - Little Girl Lost and Found (1967) One member was Tom Shipley, later of Brewer and Shipley, who had a Top 10 hit with "One Toke Over The Line". Which Lawrence Welk covered on his TV show.  The Gentle Touch - Among The First To Know (1967) Hank Levine - Let Us Begin Beguine (1964) George Burns - The Sun Shines On My Street (1969) ANOTHER take-off/tribute based on The Beatles' Sargent Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band cover. There were many. Who was George Burns?  POACA might recall that before television was the king of everything, radio was the thing. And no one was bigger in that medium than the plain-spoken, often exasperated but always kind and honest George Burns. He and his wife/comic foil Gracie Allen reigned supreme for decades. It would not be exaggerating to say that she was the most famous radio star for years. Gracie Allen ((in real life, an amazing intellectual who held her own on the very difficult quiz show "Information, Please" (which you should research but you will not because no one reads this)) had a singular ability to make audiences love her. From the '30s to the '50s, Burns and Allen were one of the most beloved shows in all of America. And George Burns won an Academy Award in 1974 for his appearance in The Sunshine Boys (when he replaced another giant of radio, Jack Benny, who died before the movie was made.) He also appeared in the movie Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band with Peter Frampton. No one won an Oscar for that. He also reached the Top 20 in the country chart with "I Wish I Was Eighteen Again".  Jayne Mansfield - That Makes It (1966) Basically, The Big Bopper's "Chantilly Lace" from a woman's point of view. Jayne Mansfield was an attractive, versatile Marilyn Monroe-esque It-Girl who gave birth to Mariska Hargitay of "Law and Order SVU".  Julie London - Marlboro Song (1963) The Lettermen - Touch Me (1970) Mike Curb and Bob Summers - Teenage Rebellion (1969) Orson Welles - I Know What It Is To Be Young (But You Don't Know What It Is To Be Old) (1984) Ah, the French.  The Partridge Family - Summer Days (1971)

Think of this solo episode as a class in Numerology 101 taught by Professor Holli with a class syllabus that includes: Numerology is a layer to astrology your sun, moon, rising signs and your north node - listen to these episodes H&J Astrology | Soul Purpose What is this fascination with knowing our personalities? We even do this in business - the Myers Briggs, Enneagram, Hogan, etc. Life Path numerology is another layer to add on to your astrological sun sign to understand your life’s purpose Holli sneaks spirit into the board room Life path reveals your purpose while destiny number describes how you will express this purpose Before class is dismissed Professor Holli teaches you how to calculate your life path. The cliff notes on that are below: If your birthday is June 16, 1972: 6+1+6+1+9+7+2 = 32 3+2 = 5 Life path number 5 If you get an 11 or a 22; do not reduce these to a 2 or a 4 respectively. They are called master numbers and it is believed those with a master number have more commitment to fulfill their calling in life even under intensity. And what do the Life Path numbers mean, you ask? Number 1: This is about action and initiation. 1 symbolizes a pioneering spirit, independent nature, and innate leadership capabilities. 1 can also be bossy or boastful, hiding any insecurities behind over-developed self-importance. Number 2: 2 is linked to sensitivity, balance, and harmony. 2 is the mediator, creating harmony by bringing together opposing forces through compassion, empathy, and kindness. 2 can have heightened intuition and will be astute to subtle energy shifts and emotional nuances. Number 3: Communication is important for 3. 3 is highly gifted at expression sharing innovative and pioneering concepts through art, writing, and speaking. Your work inspires, motivates, and uplifts others, and 3 finds great joy making others smile. 3 is known to be moody or misunderstood he/she may withdraw entirely. 3 should find moments of quiet to reset, restore, and recharge. Number 4: 4 is grounded and centered like a tree in its roots. 4 is practical, hardworking, and responsible, the vibration of the number 4 is focused on creating logical systems that can support scalable growth. 4 must remember that rules are meant to enhance, not inhibit and don’t be so stubborn. Loosen up 4s! Think outside-the-box. Number 5: Free-thinking, adventurous, and progressive, 5 is defined by freedom. 5 is known for its playful, impulsive, and vivacious spirit. 5 can become restless and impatient. Since 5 is always seeking discovery, it has a difficult time accepting life’s day-to-day responsibilities. Number 6: 6 is recognized for its nurturing, supportive, and empathic nature. A true healer, 6 has the ability to problem solve in both the emotional and physical realms, helping others through its straightforward, yet gentle, approach. 6 has a strong sense of responsibility, and cares deeply for loved ones. Sometimes 6’s protective energy can become domineering and controlling. Number 7: The detectives of numerology, 7 is known for its investigative abilities and analytical skills. 7 is extremely detail-oriented, but is driven by inner-wisdom as opposed to tangible realities. 7 has a keen eye, and its astute observations fuel a quick-witted, inventive spirit. Watch out for the dreaded perfectionism and always keep an open mind. Number 8: 8 is all about abundance. Within numerology, this number is linked to material wealth, financial success and leadership. Ambitious and goal-oriented with great power comes great responsibility: 8 breeds workaholics, and on a bad day, can become excessively controlling and possessive. Number 9: Can you say wisdom, old soul? 9 is no stranger to life’s ups-and-downs of life — been there, done that. There is a spiritual awareness with 9s. 9 transforms and it inspires others to explore their own transformation. Master Number 11 (11/2): Master Number 11 revs up the energy of Number 2; its purpose is to heal the self and others through its intuition or psychic abilities. There is a school of thought that the master number has a more destined life and is more committed to live this life on purpose with less free will to change their mind. Master Number 11 is connected to spiritual enlightenment, awareness, and philosophical balance. Master Number 22 (22/4): Master Number 22, expands on the vibrations of Number 4. There is a school of thought that the master number has a more destined life and is more committed to live this life on purpose with less free will to change their mind. Master Number 22's skills are usually a byproduct of instability that fuels innovative thought. Industrious, creative, and dependable, Master Number 22 is always on a mission to transform. After Professor Holli shares the Life Path numerology, she also shares information on Destiny Numbers. The cliff notes on that are below: Convert your full given name to a number using the following guide below. Note this should be your name given at birth - first, middle and last name. 1=A,J,S 2=B,K,T 3=C,L,U 4=D,M,V 5=E,N,W 6=F,O,X 7=G,P,Y 8=H,Q,Z 9=I,R And what do the Destiny Numbers numbers mean, you ask? Expression 1 - the number we associate with leadership. 1 is an independent - pioneering spirit, risk taker, self reliant, confident, and perhaps overly opinionated. You like to try the untested and new things. You like the freedom to choose your path and make your own decisions. Expression 2 - fulfillment through partnership. 2 is intuitive and sensitive to the world and the people around you. You will bring balance and peaceful resolution to conflict. Expression 3 - need to create for others to enjoy. 3 is outgoing with more uplifting, inspiring. Energy than others. You are creative and may be drawn to the arts. Expression 4 - make life safe for yourself and others. 4 is a builder, methodical and practical. You like order and stability and tend to be reliable and responsible. Expression 5 - go out and see the wide world. 5 loves it’s freedom, excitement and new experiences. You hate routine and are very adaptable. Expression 6 - find a way to serve where there is a need. 6 brings love and honesty. You may play the role of healer or counselor. Needs of others tend to come before your own needs. Expression 7 - achieve a spiritual path to guide other spiritually. 7 is intelligent, inquisitive and has a need for truth, knowledge and wisdom in all aspects. You may be more introverted and need alone time. Expression 8 - lead others to success. 8 is ambitious, disciplined and hard working. 8 is a good planner and can see things as they truly are to create success.
