This went on full display when the Augustana University junior not only competed at both NCAA Championships in the same day, swimming prelims of the 100 free before going to the track to compete in the high jump and then returning to the pool for the 100 free final, but finished in the top-8 in both of her events that day. It's been a time of big ups and downs, as Sandoval navigates life as an elite runner, with a full time job. MSU Moorhead was named a finalist, along with 22 other institutions, on January 4. The award is intended to celebrate, recognize and champion a school's community engagement efforts. "It was such an honor to be named a finalist.  To win the Award of Excellence is very humbling and exciting for our student athletes," said Markuson. "Their work in the community is both inspiring and aligns great with NCAA Division II core values." MSUM's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee put together a massive event to honor their friend and Dragon superfan Joe Keller. Through SAAC's work, MSUM helped raise $4,385 for Make-a-Wish North Dakota to honor their friend who had previously had his wish granted. Keller was an MSUM student, superfan and athletics intern with muscular dystrophy who passed away in the summer of 2021.  "I appreciate the NCAA's commitment to recognizing student athletes for their contributions outside of their sports. Our Dragon student athletes exemplify MSU Moorhead's core values of grit, humility, and heart—both on and off the playing field," said MSUM President Dr. Anne Blackhurst. "They inspire my Dragon Pride every day and I'm thrilled they've received national recognition for their extraordinary engagement with our community." FULL AWARD OF EXCELLENCE PRESS RELEASE

It's the most wonderful time of the year because we have so many seasons to observe (do liturgical calendar adherents really think they can have it to themselves?). We have post-Thanksgiving nostalgia, the start of league play in NCAA DII basketball, the end of the academic term with finals and grading, Advent, and the excess of Christmas provides welcome push back to stale Halloween lawn displays. In this session co-hosts, Korey Maas (Lutheran), Miles Smith (Anglican), and D. G. Hart (Presbyterian) discuss those seasons with Advent taking up the majority of oxygen. With hopes of not upsetting Anglican and Lutheran colleagues and listeners, Presbyterians may remain skeptical about the liturgical calendar and continue to wonder if the spiritual benefits that come with Advent are not more possible with fifty-two sanctified Lord's Days. Heck, with Sabbatarianism you don't even have to put up with Lady Gaga and Dean Martin Christmas albums. This episode's sponsor is The Crown. As Mr. Biden say, "no joke." Disputando a NISA, o time vem mostrando evolução e disputou a decisão do último torneio contra o forte Detroit City FC. #cyrooliveira #laforce #nisa - - - - - Cansado de ver sempre o mesmo tipo de conteúdo dos outros canais? In December, 2012 Doug received an Honorary Doctorate of Human Letters from Winthrop University. Echols played football at Mars Hill and in 1967 was named to the Knoxville News Sentinel All-Area Team. He was inducted into the Mars Hill College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006. Doug has taught and coached in the public school system, coached freshmen football at Western Carolina University, and was the Director of Athletics and Head Football Coach at Northwestern High School in Rock Hill from 1971-1976. Echols was inducted into the Northwestern Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011. From 1976-1982, Doug worked in the Clover and Fort Mill, South Carolina school districts as the administrator of several curriculum development projects sponsored by the S.C. State Department of Education. Echols conducted over one thousand hours of teacher training programs during these assignments. From 1982-1989, he was the Associate Director of Athletics and Coliseum Manager at Winthrop University, and in April 1989 Doug became the first Commissioner of the South Atlantic Conference and retired from that position in July, 2008 after nineteen years with the league. The nine-member athletic conference included NCAA DII colleges in three states. The conference offered competition in fourteen championship sports for three thousand student-athletes. Echols was responsible for all athletic administrative functions associated with the relationship of the nine member institutions. He was inducted into the SAC Hall of Fame in 2009. Doug previously served as a member of the NCAA Division II Restructuring Task Force, which helped to reorganize the one thousand NCAA schools into a more federated model for Divisions I, II, and III. As an outgrowth of his work on the restructuring task force, Doug was appointed a member of the first NCAA Division II Management Council that guided the administration of athletics for almost three hundred Division II institutions throughout the country. While on the Management Council, Doug served on several national committees that included Nominations (chair), Diversity, NCAA Honors and helped develop a Blueprint Compliance Model for Division II. Doug is also past president of the NCAA Division II Commissioners Association. In 2010 he was given the Award of Merit for NCAA Division II in recognition of his leadership and service to the mission of the Association. In 1998, Doug was elected to serve a four-year term as mayor of Rock Hill, South Carolina. He has been reelected mayor four times since then and is presently serving in his fifth term. Doug served two four-year terms on the City Council before being elected mayor. During Doug's terms in elected office, the City of Rock Hill has seen tremendous growth and these challenges are being met with sound fiscal practices, long-range citizen based planning efforts and the formation of numerous partnerships. Successful efforts are underway to revitalize the urban core of the City with commercial and residential development. Additionally, the City has undertaken a bold initiative for the reuse of old textile mills resulting in a senior housing complex and a corporate center for the headquarters of two companies. Mayor Echols is a past president of the Municipal Association of South Carolina. This Association represents the state's 270 cities and towns. Doug has previously served as a member of the Board of Directors of the National League of Cities, an association of America's cities and towns. He has served as chair of the National League of Cities' Leadership Training Council. Echols has also served as chair of the Southern Municipal Conference which is comprised of state municipal league representatives and executive directors of the fourteen southern states. He presently serves on the National League of Cities Advisory Council. In 2012 Echols served as President of the Association of South Carolina Mayors. During his years of public service, Doug initiated Rock Hill's Commission for Children and Youth, and the Mayor's Task Force for Greenways, Trails and Sidewalks. The City has numerous projects underway or in the beginning stages that will continue to enrich the community. At the present time Rock Hill is partnering on a redevelopment project on 1000 acres of land that will represent a $600 million private investment at full build out. This site will include the construction of various public recreation and sports venues on 250 acres and is being called the Rock Hill Outdoor Center. Additionally, the community is fortunate to have recently completed a project to convert a downtown parking lot into a park which will be surrounded by new commercial and retail development. This project has future plans that could include a hotel and new civic/performance center. All of these accomplishments have been possible because of an excellent City Council, staff, and an engaged and progressive citizenry, along with private partnerships. Doug has an evolving interest in photography and has had pictures exhibited in several local studios. Additionally, he enjoys reading and travel. Doug and his wife, Sylvia, a children's advocate, have both been involved in community affairs for many years and reside in Rock Hill. Their son, Chad is a graduate of Clemson University, the University of South Carolina School of Law, and is the owner of The Echols Firm, LLC in Rock Hill. Their daughter, Sara graduated from Clemson and completed a masters degree in social work at the University of South Carolina, and is associated with Novant Health Systems in the area of palliative care. Guest: Lennie Acuff, Lipscomb University Head CoachIn this week’s basketball coaching conversation, Lipscomb University head coach Lennie Acuff joins the Basketball Podcast to the art of coaching, and how that art shapes his basketball and program's philosophy. With a 30-year storied coaching career, Acuff has established himself a proven winner and one of the best teachers in the game.In Acuff's first season at Lipscomb University, he had seven players, more than 7,700 career points, and 3,000 career rebounds walk out the door prior to his arrival in 2019-20. Not only did he have to work eight first-year players into the roster, but there were only two guys on the team who had ever started a game. But for a coach with more than 550 wins over his career, Acuff was ready for the challenge. He continued to tell anyone who would listen that 2019-20 would be a “jumping on point” for the program. Glancing back on his first D-I campaign, it sure looks like he was right. He pushed his team to its fullest potential and put the Bisons back in the ASUN Conference championship game for a third straight season.Prior to arriving in Nashville, Acuff spent the previous 22 seasons at the helm of the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where he built the Chargers program into a national power with a 437-214 overall record. Under Acuff, UAH won eight regular season and three Gulf South Conference tournament championships and earned 11 trips to the NCAA-DII tournament, including two trips to the Elite Eight after winning the NCAA-DII South Regional in 2011 and 2012.During that time UAH was ranked in the national polls for 44 consecutive weeks including a No. 2 ranking to end the 2011-12 season. The team’s achievements were also recognized on a national level as Acuff’s team was the first Division II program invited to play in the NIT Season Tip-Off in 2012, and the Chargers defeated North Texas in the opening round of the prestigious event.Acuff has been named the NABC District Coach of the Year four times (2000, 2011, 2012, and 2013) and has been honored as the GSC Coach of the Year a conference-record eight times (1999, 2003, 2005, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2016).Prior to his tenure at UAH, Acuff was the head coach at Berry College in Rome, Georgia for four seasons, where he established it as one of the premier NAIA programs. At the age of 25, Acuff began his coaching career at Belhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi, and was the youngest head coach at a four-year college in the United States at the time. Mario Morgan. Rio as his Harvey Twisters teammates often called him, piled up 565 wins over an 18 year career. A very quick, technical and high scoring wrestler, the slight built Mario had the flair for exciting moves with dramatic endings. He was always a crowd favorite with plenty of must watch matches. Dominating at the kids level for the legendary Twisters, with 3 state titles he moved on to state high school power, Mt. Carmel. Mario had national tournament success while with the Caravan as well as freestyle and greco championships, but the state folkstyle title eluded him. At the collegiate level he returned to dominating fashion as a 3x team and the 2011 individual 141lb NCAA national champion for the University of Nebraska (Omaha) closing his career with 29 straight wins and 130 overall. When UNO moved to eliminate the powerhouse program an hour after Mario won his title, the senior captain became the national media spokesman for the program’s fight to save wrestling. Mario is currently starting his 9th year as a college wrestling coach for NCAA DII power, Maryville University (St. Louis) as well as their Executive Communication Specialist to the University President.

Episode 025: Saving Lives From A Helicopter Ft. Flight Nurse Aaron Donze Mentor Bio: Aaron Donze graduated with Honors from Walsh University with a Bachelors in the Science of Nursing. He received a full scholarship for NCAA DII intercollegiate football and was an Academic All-American athlete. His experience in emergency medicine, heart and lung transplant, international life-flight, and helicopter flight nursing has led him to a life filled with action, adventure, and 5 days off per week! This year, Aaron plans to graduate with a Doctorate of the Nursing Practice and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner form the University of Arizona. He loves traveling, climbing, camping, exploring, and loving life! Industry Overview: What do Nurse Practitioners do? Nurse anesthetists, nurse midwives, and nurse practitioners, also referred to as advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), coordinate patient care and may provide primary and specialty healthcare. The scope of practice varies from state to state. What does their work environment look like? Nurse anesthetists, nurse midwives, and nurse practitioners work in a wide variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, physicians' offices, and clinics. Most APRNs work full time. How do you become a Nurse Practitioner? Nurse anesthetists, nurse midwives, and nurse practitioners must earn at least a master’s degree in one of the APRN roles. They must also be licensed in their state and pass a national certification exam. College Niche ranks the top 3 nursing schools as: University of Pennsylvania, Columbia, and Georgetown. What additional skills that they typically don’t teach in school do you need? For the most part much like other professions in the health related fields the education is paramount of any soft skills outside of school. For some career options, like financial planning (described in episode 19), sales (episode 21), or consultant (episode 24); soft skills you don’t learn in school can be arguably more important. What is the pay? The median annual wage for nurse anesthetists, nurse midwives, and nurse practitioners was $107,460 in May 2016. Future demand in marketplace? Overall, employment of nurse anesthetists, nurse midwives, and nurse practitioners is projected to grow 31 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations. Growth will occur primarily because of an increased emphasis on preventive care and demand for healthcare services from an aging population. Overall… Nurse Practitioners rank #3 in Best Health Care Jobs which ranks them based on 5 categories ( salary, job market, future growth, stress, and work-life balance), with dentist and physician assistant coming in 1st, 2nd respectively. Todd's personal opinion… I am really found of this profession to be something I think many of you students should consider. If you are found of the healthcare industry, enjoy helping people, want to travel, and are looking for a stable predictable job with high income that will continue to be in high demand in the marketplace with great pay this is right up your alley. No won’t fully be able to manage your schedule like a financial advisor from episode 19 and take off to Europe tomorrow if you wanted to.. But the stability is nice if that is what you want. In the 79th episode of Keep Moving Forward, I interview Vice President of Estes Services and former NCAA DII football player, Brian Estes.   “Train for a purpose.” Brian Estes wanted to go to a university where he could play football. He knew once his athletic career came to a close that he would end up being a key player in his family’s business, but his journey to get there was shaped by his pursuit of a post-collegiate football career. The athlete mentality instilled within him through football, paired with the entrepreneurial mentality fostered within him through the growth of Estes Services, Brian was prepared for any obstacle he would face on his journey through sport and business.   Holding true to the notion that it was his job to prove all the naysayers wrong, Brian embodies what it means to keep moving forward through life’s challenges. I hope you all enjoy my interview with Brian Estes.   To learn more about Brian and Estes Services, visit https://www.estesair.com/, and follow Estes on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.   If you guys enjoy Keep Moving Forward and want to tell me so, I would love for you to leave me a review on iTunes.
