I remember when I first started in youth ministry, a few years after my conversion, you'd shy away from the whole God is judge thing. Maybe we save that for Bible study or one-on-one conversation, you know, we don't want to put people off. And it's like, no, man, you need to come out with that. Like if there wasn't a hell, and if there wasn't a judge, I don't even know if I could be a Christian. And so, when we reframe things, and give the reasons for why we think this. Credible reasons for why we think this, why this is internally coherent within the Christian worldview, and how it satisfies the sorts of existential concerns that we have in questions that we have, I think that that's a huge opportunity.---Listen to Alanzo Paul, a speaker at the Oxford Center for Christian Apologetics being interviewed by author and theologian, Andrew Ollerton. Alanzo shares his origin story, his struggles and how he walks hand-in-hand with Jesus. He talks about the extreme transformation that brought him out of the lowest point in his life to a place where he now has the privilege of connecting with and helping the Next Gen find hope as they seek answers to meta questions like: What is the meaning of life? Does my life have a purpose? Where is God in my suffering?Alanzo is a speaker at the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics (OCCA). He is passionate about apologetics, art, discipleship, history, literature, mission, philosophy and theology. His work primarily focuses on Christocentrically addressing metaphysical and existential questions like: ‘Does God exist?', ‘Why does God allow suffering (and evil)', ‘What is the meaning of life?', and much more.Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Alanzo became a Christian in 2009 after struggling with drug addiction for over ten years. Alanzo worked in the Oil & Gas sector before entering into full-time ministry. He held a corporate position for several years and then embarked upon his first private sector venture as an entrepreneur in the e-commerce world.Ever since his decision to follow Jesus, Alanzo has been passionate about engaging with Next Gen questions about God, the Bible, life, and the Church. For over a decade now, he has spoken to crowds of students around the world.Alanzo has a degree in theology (BTh) from the University of Oxford (Wycliffe Hall) and a Master of Arts in Theological Studies (MA) from the University of Toronto. So, I've followed Jesus now for more than 60 years, and always, there have been a few days life has been too busy to do it, just impossible, but every day. I mean I was reading this morning, and I just love that time every day in the Bible, in the Scriptures. And what's amazing is I read it now, well, more than 60 times, you always, every year see something fresh, that you didn't see before. And you think, my goodness, why didn't I see that? And of course, the simple fact is that life is raising different questions all the time. And you bring those at least in the back of your mind to what you're reading, and you suddenly see again, and again, the incredible relevance of Scripture. Episode 150: A Critical Analysis of Heritage Preservation in Libya In this podcast, AIMS Cultural Heritage Fellow Reem Furjani discusses her research in the Old City of Tripoli, the field of critical heritage studies and her work bridging scholarly research and practice. Cultural heritage studies is a burgeoning academic field that seeks to contribute and expand classic work on heritage practices by introducing bottom-up approaches to preservation theory and practice. Reem's work specifically integrates the involvement, thoughts and practices of inhabitants in preserving sites and spaces. In this approach, heritage moves beyond a static condition and instead becomes a living, and dynamic area of focus. Furjani eloquently condenses this academic field into approachable terms, thereby putting her own work in critical heritage studies into practice. The debate on heritage is not and should not be approached as something exclusive and limited to a field of technical experts, but as an inclusive movement that takes into consideration those living and experiencing heritage every day. Furjani integrates examples and experiences from her own work, specifically her various projects in the Old city of Tripoli, throughout this talk. Reem Furjani is a cultural activist and researcher focused on critical heritage studies and cultural democracy. She is the founder and director of Scene, a non-profit that protects cultural heritage in Tripoli. She is completing her PhD and holds a Masters Degree in Architecture from Cardiff University. Furjani was the AIMS Libya Cultural Heritage Fellow and is currently a fellow at the Oxford Center for Islamic Studies. For the past two weeks, the world has had its eyes on the violence in Israel and the Palestinian territories. Each day, new headlines emerge of Hamas launching rockets from Gaza and Israel bombing the strip in return. More than 200 Palestinians and a dozen Israelis have died in the attacks. But before the aggression escalated into direct action, tensions had been simmering for weeks. Thirteen Palestinian families from a neighborhood in a disputed area of East Jersualem were facing potential eviction. Many Israeli families have already moved into this neighborhood. Israeli settlements on land Palestinians believe to be theirs has consistently been a wider source of grievance between the two communities. Then, two weeks ago, police raided the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem during Ramadan. The third-holiest site in Islam is also located on the same land as the Temple Mount, a location sacred to Jews. After 11 days of fighting, a cease-fire has been announced, which will likely halt the rockets and shelling for now. But it’s unlikely to heal the long term rifts between the communities. What’s more: hundreds of people now grieve loved ones, including more than 50 children, who were killed in the past two weeks. Salim Munayer is the executive director and founder of Musalaha Ministry of Reconciliation, which has been bringing Israelis and Palestinians together since 1990. Munayer is a Palestinian-Israeli who received his PhD from the Oxford Center of Mission Studies in the UK and has published several books on reconciliation, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and Christians in Israel and the Palestinian Authority. He is also the peace and reconciliation network coordinator for Middle East and North Africa for the World Evangelical Alliance. Munayer joined global media manager Morgan Lee and executive editor Ted Olsen on Quick to Listen to discuss the roots of the violence, the role and responsibility of American Christians in this crisis, and what the ongoing conflict between Palestinians and Israelis can teach us about the racial division in the church. Everyone has an opinion on why Trump won the election. It had to be race or sexism. It had to be about electing an outsider. I had to do with not wanting a woman president. Racist, Sexist, Misogyny, Bigotry, Bully, Liar are all words that have been used to define Trump and his followers. But emotions and assumptions are not the way you find truth. You much use research, data, interviews, true journalism, and an honest look at not only Tump but also our culture. Cliff Oxford started to question the popular narrative and wanted to discover the truth about the election of Donald Trump. Was it racism, sexism, or something else? His book 'A Redneck Reverie:The Rationale for the Trump Phenomenon' which combines data-driven insights and real life experiences to explain Donald Trump’s election to the White House and the intersection with rural cultures across America. Having lived his life among both country folk and the elite, Cliff has the exact insights needed to not only help explain how we got here, but to provide guidance on the road moving forward. In today's conversation we dive deeper into the discoveries outlined in the book and how over 40 years of changes really led to the election of 2016. Cliff Oxford is founder of CliffCo., an international think tank symposium, and author of A Redneck Reverie: The Rationale for the Trump Phenomenon. A Redneck Reverie is Cliff’s third book. His two previous books, LAMBS (Liberal Arts Majors in Business Society) to Leaders and KNOW GROW EXIT-How Entrepreneurs Start and Finish Fast, continue his unique leadership roles in academia, journalism, and real-world entrepreneurship. Oxford started, built, and sold two national brands: Oxford Center for Entrepreneurs, which sold to Advantage Media and STI Knowledge, an Inc 13 company. Cliff won the Atlanta Entrepreneur of the Year award and landed the highly coveted spot as Visionary and Execution leader in the Gartner Group Magic Quadrant. He has been a featured columnist for The New York Times and Forbes and was named Atlanta’s Entrepreneur of the Year by the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. On today’s show we’re talking about where are we with this darned pandemic that has dominated this year 2020. There are lots of conflicting data points and individuals, business leaders, public health officials, elected officials, and investors are trying to figure out where this is all heading. This is an area I’ve been studying deeply for a long time. The Corona Virus is new in the past year, it’s not that well understood to the medical community, and it threatened our global society with a very high mortality rate. We’ve had a bit of a reprieve over the summer months. The weather is getting cooler and people are spending more time indoors. We are seeing infection rates rising dramatically in many countries including Spain, Israel, France, India and Brazil. The United States will pass a grim milestone in the next day or so with 200,000 deaths so far this year from the pandemic. There are some potential vaccines undergoing early clinical trials, and it’s reported that a few hold considerable promise. However, even if these are found to be effective, it will be many more months before they can be manufactured in sufficient quantities and administered to a large enough percentage of the population to have a meaningful impact. We’re hearing of outbreaks in the school system as children return to school. We’re hearing first hand accounts of outbreaks in university residence buildings. So where does that leave us? It’s possible that we have a second wave coming. Some point to the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918, which infected 1/3 of the world’s population in four successive waves. It was the later waves of the Spanish Flu that were the most deadly. Is history about repeat itself with the Covid-19 virus? I’ve been following the work of Dr. John Campbell from the UK. He has been reporting on a number of recent studies showing the correlation between the severity of Covid symptoms and Vitamin D levels. There are numerous studies showing that there is a strong link to severe Covid symptoms and vitamin D deficiency. A recent small scale experiment of 76 patients conducted in Spain showed that out of 50 Covid patients chosen at random who were given the best available treatment and high doses of vitamin D, all survived, and only one out of 50 deteriorated to where they needed to be admitted to intensive care. Out of the remaining 26 cases, all were given the best available treatment, and no vitamin D supplements. From this control group 13 / 26 deteriorated to where they needed intensive care and two died. Fully 50% ended up in intensive care. You can find the videos from Dr. Campbell on Youtube at https://youtu.be/iNji13yoW9g Over the past week, Dr. Campbell has presented numerous other papers and studies from the Journal of the American Medical Association, two large scale studies from Israel, to name just a few. It’s strange that the WHO, the CDC, the Oxford Center have not initiated a large scale clinical trial of Vitamin D. But the studies to date seem pretty compelling. I’ve maintained for a long time that it would take one of two things to bring the pandemic to an end from a social and economic impact. 1) Full herd immunity. Either everyone got it, or large scale deployment of a vaccine 2) An Effective treatment If you look at the statistics coming from Europe, we see that case counts are rising dramatically. Paradoxically the death counts have not been rising correspondingly. It’s too early to declare the pandemic over. Some of the studies have shown Vitamin D to be effective as both preventative and as a therapeutic. Vitamin D is produced within the body by exposure to sunlight. As a supplement, it is readily available, and is easily manufactured in high volume.

CNN has called Esther one of “Five Women to Watch in Religion,” USA Today has named her one of the “New Faces of Evangelicalism” and Christianity Today has called her “one of the 50 women shaping the church and culture.” She is a graduate of the Oxford Center of Christian Apologetics and is currently in seminary. Her favorite new names are “wife” and “mama” as she is thankful to have a new home with them. What We're Talking About: There’s a difference between the labels you give yourself and the name God gives you. We often get labeled by someone close to us. “Our names are written in the book of life, not our labels.” There’s a difference between sins, inequities, and transgressions. God wants to speak to us through his word. A name change will look different for every person. “I am a daughter of God and that is enough.” God wants you to resign as an employee and be a son or daughter instead. We don’t have to earn our worth with God. We are more than conquerors! The recognizable Whole Foods and Wal-Mart product is an example of how “organic” food has become mainstream as consumers will spend a premium, price for a better-tasting, well-treated animal. Then, remember those times you’ve stopped at your neighborhood store on the way home from work and spontaneously bought “day-old” pastry for a bargain? DAVID RODRIGUEZ has created an app that directs people to find these daily discounts. As the CEO & Co-Founder for Food for All, he is working in urban areas to cut down on food waste and help increase visibility of 200 restaurants. Next, JOE MOTZ, a self-described “farm boy” was always interested in “keeping it green” with efficient methods. The Motz Corporation manages premium, synthetic and natural grass systems for athletic fields, restaurants, office complexes and other ground surfaces. Motz is joined by ZACH BURNS, President of The Motz Group and VALERIE WEBSTER, President of USGreentech, a sustainable, turf infill partner. More than 70 people died on Easter Sunday after Taliban suicide bombers blew themselves up at a children’s park in Lahore, Pakistan. The majority of the victims were Muslim, but its targets were Christians, a spokesperson for the terrorist group said. Life hasn’t been easy for Pakistani Christians in the past 50 years, says K. A. Ellis, an ambassador for the Christian persecution advocacy group, International Christian Response, who points to the country’s blasphemy laws and recent terrorist bombings of churches. “If it’s hubris to violate the image of God in any innocent being, it seems an even more profound offense to violate the name of Christ that believers bear,” says Ellis, a Ph.D. candidate in Church History at Oxford Center for Mission Studies. “God is grieved by the death of all men, but those who bear his name are precious in his sight.” Ellis joins Morgan and Katelyn this week as they process how Western Christians should grieve and act following this latest attack. What makes the Pakistan attack unique? What types of stories about persecution make the most prominent headlines? Should Christians grieve the death of other Christians differently than they do other victims? What can our support for persecuted Christians look like?
