Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican reggaeton and Latin trap artist, has been using his platform to reflect on important social and historical issues, particularly those affecting his home island. In his latest album, the artist sought to delve deeply into the history of Puerto Rico's colonization, an aspect of Puerto Rican identity often overlooked in mainstream narratives. To ensure accuracy and depth in his exploration of this subject matter, Bad Bunny reached out to an academic expert for guidance. The artist's team contacted Professor César Rivera, a respected scholar specializing in Puerto Rican history and post-colonial studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. This collaboration was driven by Bad Bunny's desire to present an authentic and factually robust account of the island's complex colonial past. By incorporating scholarly insight, Bad Bunny aimed to educate his audience not only through his music but also by shedding light on historical contexts that have shaped Puerto Rican society.Bad Bunny's effort to use his music as a means of education speaks to his broader commitment to social justice and cultural pride. Through his lyrics, music videos, and public statements, he consistently addresses issues such as political instability, economic challenges, and the ongoing impact of colonialism on Puerto Rico. This project marks another step in his journey to use his artistry as a platform for awareness and change. The collaboration with Professor Rivera highlights the importance of academic-community partnerships, where scholarly research finds a wider audience through popular culture. This approach enriches the public discourse by offering nuanced perspectives that might not be available through conventional media outlets.Bad Bunny's initiative has been praised for bringing academic discussion to a broader audience, allowing fans to engage with the important historical context of colonization. By choosing to focus on these topics, Bad Bunny is also contributing to the preservation and promotion of Puerto Rican identity and resilience in the face of historical and ongoing challenges. In summary, Bad Bunny's collaboration with the University of Wisconsin-Madison professor underscores his commitment to educating his audience about Puerto Rico's colonial history through his music, drawing on academic expertise to ensure a well-rounded portrayal of the island's past.

By year's end, the Biden administration is likely to release a directive on regulatory subsidies for 'sustainable aviation fuel' (SAF) sourced from corn, which could inflate food costs and inadvertently promote habitat-unfriendly agricultural practices. This proposed rule change anticipates granting tax credit access to SAFs procured from corn-based ethanol, contingent upon approval under the Inflation Reduction Act, as disclosed to Reuters. In the event of implementing this change, corn-based ethanol is projected to significantly contribute towards the administration's ambition to meet all demand through SAFs by 2050 aimed at counterbalancing global warming. Nonetheless, a variety of environmental and economic concealed costs might accompany this transition to a corn-based aviation fuel, triggering potential challenges that might outweigh its benefits, industry analysts theorize. Relying on corn-sourced ethanol aviation fuel might not severely impact global warming, yet it could potentially boost the renewable fuel industry and indirectly spike corn prices, postulates Professor C. Ford Runge, Distinguished McKnight University Professor of Applied Economics and Law at the University of Minnesota.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Often thought of as an ancient, mythical idea, immortalised in the works of Homer, it's hard to imagine Troy as real place. But when Heinrich Schliemann started excavations of the city in the late 19th Century, our understanding of the ancient world would change forever. Troy stood for over millennia, and in that period was destroyed and rebuilt time and time again. So what do we know about the real people who lived there, and what does the modern archaeology tell us?In today's episode Tristan is joined by Professor C. Brian Rose, the James B. Pritchard Professor of Archaeology at the University of Pennsylvania, to take us through this city's magnificent past. Looking at the people who first occupied the settlement, through to the modern age beauty contests that still take place on the surrounding slopes, there's a wide breadth of history to be covered. So what really happened during the Trojan War, if it actually happened at all? We've teamed up with Collette to provide our North American History Hit Subscribers with the opportunity to join Tristan on a trip to Rome and the Amalfi Coast. You'll spend 3 days exploring all Rome has to offer and then a further 3 days soaking up the history of the Amalfi coast. Follow this link to find out more. "The opposite of sin is faith in which one responds, you might say, appropriately to the call that comes to one. So faith is a kind of response. Faith is a passion. It requires grace. It requires divine assistance."Episode description:If there would be a Christian type of depth psychology, a part of its foundation would most likely be founded on the insights about the human self articulated by Danish Philosopher Søren Kierkegaard (1813-1855). Our guest in this episode, Professor C. Stephen Evans, has not only imagined but also articulated important parts of the foundations of such a Christian psychology of depth in his book Søren Kierkegaard's Christian psychology - Insights for counseling and pastoral care. In this episode, Dr. Evans helps us outline Kierkegaard's view of the human self and his understanding of anxiety, despair, and self-deception's role in psychological development. He helps us understand how conscience and sin relate to individual psychology in Kierkegaard's psychology. Perhaps most importantly, he shows us how love and forgiveness are the foundations of a Kierkegaardian practice of depth psychology. Dr. Evans is a world-leading expert on Søren Kierkegaard. He is a Professor of University Professor of Philosophy and Humanities at Baylor University, Waco, Texas. A professorial research fellow at the Institute for Ethics and Society at the University of Notre Dame in Sydney, Australia. He has also published extensively on subjects including philosophy of religion and the relationship of psychology and Christianity. His latest book is Kierkegaard and spirituality: Accountability as the Meaning of Human Existence (Kierkegaard as a Christian thinker).Music played in this episode is licensed under creativecommons.org: Ketsa - No light without darkness, Essence and Reborn.

In this episode I speak with one of the masters of sports development and coach research Professor Jean Côté. Professor Côté is a member of the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies at Queen's University in Kingston (Canada). His research interests are in the areas of children in sport, coaching, positive youth development, and sport expertise. Professor Côté has published more than 130 research articles on a variety of sport psychology and coaching topics as well as publishing 50 book chapters. His work is among the most widely cited in academic sports literature. Throughout the podcast we discussed some areas of his research that applied specifically to coaching. These included:-The role of deliberate play vs deliberate practice-Why sampling and diversification in sport may be necessary in the developmental years-The role of parents in sport -Transformational coaching -And Professor Côté's very own Developmental model of sports participation Jean's discussion about transformational coaching really highlighted what some other guests have also said in terms of coaching the person first. The amount of research Jean and his colleagues have performed in the area definitely supports this idea and for a coach at any level I think it is such an important part of your coaching to develop. As a believer of games based learning I really liked the way Jean compared deliberate practice with deliberate play and how deliberate play can be so rewarding and effective for young athletes. We as coaches tend to overcoach and over drill through deliberate practice – as jean said we need to remember kids sport is for kids don't try coaching them like adults. And finally the ideas Jean discussed around sampling and diversification in sport not just sampling a variety of sports but also having a diversity of experiences within one sort of sport can be so important for developing athletes skills. To follow Professor Jean Côté on twitter search for @JeanCote46 For 20% off at Elite Performance Journal's use the code "coachdoctor"

In this episode of the Logos Institute Podcast, we (Dani Ross & Jason Stigall) conclude our interview with Professor C. Stephen Evans (University Professor of Philosophy and Humanities at Baylor; Professorial Fellow at the Logos Institute). Last episode, we discussed how Professor Evans's account compares to other theories of the good and the ways his Divine Command theory differs from other traditional versions. In this episode, we pick up our discussion of moral obligations in divine command theory and the way these obligations are made know to humans. If you're interested in looking ahead, here are a few time stamps to help: 0:50 - How does God communicate or make His commands known to humanity? 3:45 - Is there a way for humanity to reliably access divine commands? 7:11 - How does humanity's relationship to God generate moral obligations? Does God's relationship to humanity entail that God has moral obligations to human persons? 11:27 - God's commands are given for humanity's good 13:42 - Does God ever ask human persons to do things that may seem to run contrary to other commands that God has given? (e.g. the command for Abraham to sacrifice Issac) 17:54 - The example of Abraham's sacrifice to Isaac, helps illustrate how some moral obligations are specific to particular people (e.g. ‘as a test of faith') 23:19 - How does the ‘telos' of the Christian life impact how obligations are understood in your DCT? 27:21 - What do you think are the ‘upshots' or benefits of your account of DCT and what is the ‘take home' message for your account? It's easy to get sucked into the world of technology, often forgetting that there are humans behind the keyboards creating the technology. There's a program out of Texas changing this reality by using a book on deception and honeypots to study cyber attacker behavior. When I saw this post (https://twitter.com/Dr_Cybercrime/status/1462506991012786190/), I knew immediately I wanted to learn more about how a practitioner's book could be used to change how we teach the next generation of cybersecurity practitioners - blue teams, red teams, and purple teams alike.During this conversation we get to hear from a practitioner/author, a professor, and a student. We look back to ancient Egyptian tomb-protection practices and work our way to a future where we keep a close eye on the humans with technology. Yes, even though we continue to throw all sorts of technology at the problems we face (yep, the same ones we humans have created), the human is still at the center of these scenarios. As with most things, there's no single easy answer to a problem. This remains true here in this conversation as we ended up talking about the ethical lines drawn around how and where we can study the how/when/why people (bad actors) act when presented with a a variety of opportunities to take advantage of a situation. Is it OK to track bad actors and their behavior? How far can that be taken? Can we do like the ancient Egyptians and lock someone in our cyber tomb if we catch them in a place they shouldn't be?Regardless of your position on this matter, we bring this episode to you "em hotep."____________________________GuestsC. 12 months from the 2022 French presidential election, Marine Le Pen, the leader of France's far-right party the National Rally, is leading the sitting president Emanuel Macron in the polls. Le Pen is an ultra-conservative nationalist who blames almost all of France's problems on globalisation, immigration and Islam. Her party is a hotbed for xenophobic and racist attitudes. But who is this politician? Where did she come from? And, what events helped form these attitudes? To answer these questions, Tom speaks with Professor Cécile Alduy from Stanford University in California. Cécile Alduy is a professor of contemporary French politics, with expertise on the far-right as they relate to the question of French identity. In 2015, Alduy published a book in which she analysed the way Marine Le Pen uses language to broaden her party's support, helping her become the most popular politician in France today.

My last one-on-one conversation with Anthony Ostler was in a little restaurant in London, Ontario in January 1999. We were discussing an article on corporate strategy written by the late Professor C.K. Prahalad. Anthony was leading the recruiting efforts for the firm I was interviewing for a summer internship. It felt like a make or break conversation for me so I was a little nervous. Anthony made it easier for me because he was genuine, caring and curious. I reconnected with him 21 years later and you get to hear the conversation. He is now a Senior VP and Head of Stakeholder Engagement and Marketing at State Street a global financial company that service the investment industry. Since high school Anthony has been dedicated to being the best mentor he could be. In this conversation we get the inside track on the mind of a mentor. Jackson State University professor of English, author of “the Lyrics of Prince,” C. Leigh McInnis connects the literary genius and import of LeRoi Jones (Amiri Baraka) to the lyrical/musical genius and socio-political impact of Prince. Two progressive Prince disciples nerd-out on the piercingly conscientious lyrics of the leader of the 1980s anti-Reagan Revolution, one of the pantheon of musicians who inspired the congressional Parental Music Resource Center (PMRC), which devised the policy of labeling albums with Parental Advisory Stickers. Celebrating Prince's trailblazing life of controversy, professor McInnis and I cut into as many pieces of the Prince pie as is possible during one podcast, using Prince as a lens to critically understand the 80s and 90s specifically, African American history more broadly, as well as the future of US race relations and how anti-racist whites can work to defeat systemic racism by understanding & supporting Black self-determination & Black sovereignty. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/usfest/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/usfest/support

Today's feature is focused on Prof. Ashton and the Ashton manual and we also have a lot to share in our Mailbag, Benzo News, and Benzo Stories sections. Introduction Today's introduction, in contrast to our last episode, was quite short. So, let's move on. Mailbag This is where we share questions and comments from our listeners. Can you tell me when the podcast episodes will be released each week? This question was submitted by Elizabeth in the comments for episode 5. I released the first 5 episodes on Wednesday, Feb. 21st The next week, this week, I am doubling up on episodes. I released episode 6 on Tuesday, Feb. 26th. And I am releasing this one, episode 7, on Thursday, Feb. 28th. Starting next week, we will be on our regular weekly schedule going forward. A new episode will be released every Wednesday. Depending on the speed at which the providers, such as Apple Music, Stitcher, Google Play, Spotify, and TuneIn approve new episodes, they will be available online Wednesday or Thursday. What are GABA receptors? I keep reading about them online, but I still don't really understand what they are, or how they work. Rather than repost the entire description here, I will share a link to the Basics of Benzos page on the Benzo Free Website. Scroll down to “How Do Benzos Work?” for an explanation. COMMENT: Regarding our discussion on doctors in our last episode, “Dependence, Disbelief, and the Doctor Dilemma.” Here are a few excerpts from the comment that I shared on the podcast. You are very fortunate in your experiences with doctors. When I was going through acute benzo withdrawal, my doctors treated me like a criminal. They accused me of having taken more than was prescribed and then they accused me of having conversion disorder. They treated me like I was paranoid. I was told that benzo withdrawal symptoms only last a few weeks. I went through absolute hell for 14 months and have debilitating symptoms to this day although I have had improvements. The only good thing to come of this is that I vowed I would make a difference for other people and change the way the medical system treats patients like me. Now I'm halfway through an MSW program and intend to go back to the HMO, the next time with LCSW credentials and copies of work on benzo damage that I will eventually publish, and lay it out for them again, this time from the standpoint of a mental health professional who has been iatrogenically harmed. Meschelle from Alexandria, Virginia Benzo News “Want to Prevent Suicides? Stop Ignoring Benzo Patients” I shared highlights from a blog post on the website of the Benzodiazepine Information Coalition (BIC). Here are a few of my comments. Please visit the BIC's website to view the article. BIC WebsiteDirect Link to the Blog Post Benzo Story We finally have our first story to share in our Benzo Stories section. I just ran across your podcast and I have listened to the first 3. My story. I'm 57. I have been on Xanax for 33 yrs, basically my entire adult life. I have 2 grown children and 5 grandchildren [and] a very supportive husband (a wonderful hard working, easy going man of few words). We live in a very rural area in SE Kansas. My first panic attack was when I was 7. I really don't know how I made it through school. I had to learn how to hide my panic. No one knew about it, not friends or family. After my children were born, I finally couldn't cope so I went to my doctor and he put me on Xanax. Finally, I could relax. I started working at a mental health clinic where I started talking to the staff and physiatrist. I have been to the Mayo clinic in Scottsdale, KU medical center, doctors in Tulsa and so many therapists and counselors that I can't remember all of them. I was taking up to 8 mg a day until about 18 months ago. I was also on Ambien, buspiron, and imipramine. I was again transferred to another counselor who said I needed to get off of it. I'm now down to 4.5 mg a day of Xanax and am still on the others. No one ever told me about these drugs. I like you finally started to do research while going from 5 down to 4.5 and suddenly I started feeling symptoms of withdrawal. Now along with yet another therapist we are continuing the taper but she wants me to wait another couple of weeks before tapering down by .25 mg because of the symptoms. I know I have a long way to go. I have been house bound since the first of Feb. I have been relying on my faith to get through this. I am already on disability since 1997 and am really thankful for that, but the panic “disorder” is what I get disability for. I could go on and on but I'm sure you have heard it all before. My taper is going to be long and slow at first to see how I handle it. I made my first taper by myself and it was too much for me. My doctor told me I could go back up by .25 mg but I didn't want to do it so I didn't. When I get through this with the grace of God I, want to help others. I appreciate you and what you are doing. I think the handling of this medication is one of the most underestimated and uninformed there is. Keep up your good work! I'll be listening and reading your book. And God Bless you! Cheryl Cheryl, from SE Kansas, USA Feature Today's featured topic: The Ashton Manual – Who Wrote It and Why You Should Read It This feature topic is a sort of homage to Prof. Ashton and the Ashton Manual. Benzo Free, along with its host, support The Ashton Manual and recognize the number of lives it has saved over the past many years. Much of what I know about this subject was taught to me by those brave and long-suffering men and women…It is interesting that the patients themselves, and not the medical profession, were the first to realise that long-term use of benzodiazepines can cause problems. — Prof. Ashton I shared some highlights from a letter written by Wayne Douglas, co-founder of World Benzodiazepine Awareness Day (W-BAD), regarding the nomination of Prof. Ashton for Queen's Honours. You can read the letter via the link below.W-BAD Web Page with Letter THE ASHTON MANUAL The manual itself consists of four chapters: CHAPTER I: The benzodiazepines: what they do in the bodyCHAPTER II: How to withdraw from benzodiazepines after long-term useCHAPTER III: Slow withdrawal schedulesCHAPTER IV: Benzodiazepine withdrawal symptoms, acute & prtracted Here are a few words from the 2011 supplement to The Ashton Manual: It is important to remember that by far the greatest majority of long-term benzodiazepine users do recover from withdrawal – given time. Even protracted symptoms tend to decrease gradually, sometimes over years. The individual needs to know that the actual drug withdrawal is only the first step towards recovery. It may be followed by a prolonged period of convalescence during which the damage caused to the person's body – and often to his whole life – needs to be repaired as far as possible. But the brain, like the rest of the body, has an enormous capacity for adapting and self-healing. That is how life survives and how ex-benzodiazepine (quote) ‘addicts' can be optimistic about their future. — Prof. Ashton Until you have been through the ordeal of benzo withdrawal, and found yourself so desparate for information and guidance, you'll never know the type of life raft that this manual has been too us. Prof. Ashton, thank you.
