This week on Colin Peters presents… we head back into my mix vaults to listen to the second most important mix of my career. Recorded in 2010 and based on Russ Meyer's classic B-Movie, FASTER, PUSSYCAT! KILL! KILL! was the mix that opened my second era behind the decks. In 2009 I was thinking about giving it all up as I was getting every fewer gigs and was disillusioned with the music (this was the year when 'I Gotta A Feeling' by Black Eyed Peas & David Guetta was released :(. I decided to take things back to the drawing board and channel the music I loved when I started, spliced with the punky young guns of the day (Bloc Party, Two Door Cinema Club, TV On The Radio), and the mix was a huge success, opening up residencies at Cultura Club in Palma and Ibiza Rocks and paving the way to how I mix nowadays. Two Door Cinema Club, TV On The Radio). 1) To the Batmobile, Let's Go! 2) Alex Metric - It Starts Again 3) MPHO - Box N Locks 4) Depeche Mode - Wrong (Trentemøller remix) 5) The Strokes - Hard to Explain 6) Sugababes - About You Now 7) Vampire Weekend - Cousins 8) Plan B - Stay Too Long 9) Billy Idol - White Wedding 10) Two Door Cinema Club - I Can Talk 11) The Pixies - Where Is My Mind (Bassnectar remix) 12) Bloc Party - Helicopter (Whitey remix) 13) The Drums - Let's Go Surfing 14) The Postal Service - Such Great Heights 15) Frankmusik - 3 Little Words (KC in CK remix) 16) Metric - Gold Guns Girls (Mike Shinoda remix) 17) TV On The Radio - Wolf Like Me 18) In Flagranti - Pick a Trick 19) The Cure - Close To Me 20) I Blame Coco ft Robyn - Caesar 21) Robyn - Cobrastyle (The Bloody Beetroots remix) 22) Leo Minor - Ashes to Ashes 21) Chairlift - Bruises 22) DJ Shadow - Six Days (Soulwax remix) 23) The Smiths - This Charming Man (New York)

It is in the devilish Secretary's nature to push our limits, to test how far we are willing to gaze into the abyss of our beloved genre, even when the abyss may repulse us, or sting our souls with the perverse truths that sometimes spill forth. It is in this spirit that she gets to work on this episode's 4 dark celluloid cadavers celebrating Fetishism. Russ Meyer's iconic Faster Pussycat Kill Kill, is the true cherry to start this one, then it's all downhill, we're off to Tokyo for some true, unnerving Decadence, back to America for some quirky carplay with James Spader, and then, if you have the fortitude, Horrorghoul will lead you by the extremities through one of the most infamously upsetting films (and long-time WBD punchline!), Pasolini's audacious Salo! You can't have Revenge Month and not cover a Quentin Tarantino movie. His half of the Grindhouse double-bill, Death Proof, is a throwback to an era of B-level filmmaking that perhaps QT and Robert Rodriguez admire more than audiences did. After all, this was the rare QT box-office bomb. Even he admits it's his worst movie. Still, that car chase is a masterpiece of stunt-work. Real-life stuntwoman-turned-actress Zoe Bell just did what she does anyway...risk her life for the shot in spectacular ways. Sydney Poitier in the first half of Death Proof and then Rosario Dawson in the second half are both hot & cool, but this flick belongs to a malevolent Kurt Russell as Stuntman Mike. Is he a stand-in for his director? We discuss. The short of it is, Tarantino's flick remains entertaining and very watchable, despite some horrifying decisions made by the lady "heroes". Well, baby, it's you, so burn rubber to save your life, then drive like a maniac to get some payback as Have You Ever Seen's 505th episode covers the car-chase side of Grindhouse. Well, Actually: It's Tura Satana in Faster Pussycat Kill Kill, not Tura SANtana. Also, Marley Shelton plays a doctor in the Grindhouse twosome, not a nurse. Also also, it's Fred Raskin---not Raksin---who became QT's editor. If you drink coffee and you want something better than you're currently getting, try Sparkplug Coffee. "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to violence." This week Alexis and Kevin take on some classic exploitation with Russ Meyers's 1965 classic "Faster Pussycat Kill Kill."
In this first episode host Kat Ellinger starts her exploration of the chthonic feminine in film, literature and culture, with an in-depth look into Russ Meyer's iconic films Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill! and Vixen.
Kill ! Ladies, Gentlemen, and all other dignified listeners who don't identify with those terms. WELCOME TO VIOLENCE. By violence, we mean ANALYSIS. The word and the act. While analysis cloaks itself in a plethora of disguises, its favorite mantle still remains: a roundtable discussion. Analysis doesn't only destroy, it dissects and prospects as well. Let's examine closely, then, this act. It can come in any form at any time. It could be your barber chatting your ear off about sports. It could be your grocer discussing the merits of paper v. plastic. It could even be a group of guys named John, Dixon, and Ryan sitting at a PODCASTING TABLE talking about the cult classic Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! This week, join us as we dive into the world of Russ Meyer, certainly a requisite for any cult cinema show. Meyer released Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! (an all-time great movie title) on his independent VHS label - Bosomania - and it lives up to the title, with three buxom go-go dancers giving into their violent fantasies. On this episode: the violence in women (and men), Russ Meyer's cinematic influence, politically incorrect descriptive names, siderodromophobia (fear of trains), 60s aesthetics, shifting tenets of feminism, and the Meyer trio: big breasts, fast cars and sudden death!

SPOILER WARNING for this episode! Paul Brian McCoy joins Jason this week to talk one of Paul's favorite movies, Russ Meyer's classic from 1965, Faster Pussycat Kill! Kill!. Jason has never seen this movie before but was blown away (appropriate term!) by the great lead characters, the film's fascinating mood, and the energy of the story being told. Paul talks about some behind the scenes facts that just make this movie better than you think it is. The guys then move over to a new movie, Bad Girls, which is kind of a spiritual successor to Faster Pussycat. Directed by Christopher Bickel, this movie is a drug and sex crazed trip across a bizarrely distorted America. It's full of energy and power and both Paul and Jason loved the film. But note THERE ARE SPOILERS for both these movies. It's an hour of great listening that we hope will encourage you to check out both these movies. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jason-sacks/message

In the forty-fourth episode of Season 1, Cult Flicks & Trash Picks, Kyle is joined by cinematographer Ryan Alva and filmmaker Michael Willer (of the Big Fat Gay Podcast) to discuss the trailblazing blend of misogyny and empowerment at the center of Russ Meyer's evocative and sadistic battle of the sexes in Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!
Open the throttle and prepare to be karate chopped because we're throwing down with Russ Meyer's out-there 1965 B-Movie classic - Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! It's tough, independent, buxom women in cool sports cars, versus a creepy old man and his simple minded son in a showdown in the desert. To get our heads right for this insanity, we got after it with Head in the Clouds Juicy DIPA from Santa Monica Brew Works.
On this episode, we focus on the year of 1965 thru the films; The Bedford Incident / Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! / The Beach Party Report. We also discuss: The Sound of Music / Doctor Zhivago / Thunderball / Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines or How I Flew from London to Paris in 25 Hours and 11 Minutes Recommended films from the Beach Party genre: Bikini Beach / Pajama Party / For Those Who Think Young / A Swingin' Summer
Hey Boppers. Russ Meyer is such a well known name in exploitation cinema, we decided to dig in to his, perhaps, most famous film. Fast cars, deadly women, crime, murder and Go Go dancing. Can you dig it? groovinmovies@gmail.com and insta and twitter @groovinmovies

Director Russ Meyer was a World War II newsreel cameraman and Playboy photographer before writing, producing and directing his own feature films. But his early work directly influenced the way he approached his exploitation film career. He ran his Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! set like a military operation, demanding efficiency and professionalism from all his creative partners. And he drew on his experience at Playboy when it came time to cast the busty and beautiful women that populated the film. Meyer had the good fortune to find Tura Satana, an exotic dancer and martial arts expert, to play his lead. She also demanded residual points on the film and the rights to her own likeness -- the only actor in the film to strike such a deal. Dan and Vicky revel in this 1965 B movie classic and pay homage to it's gloriously enticing exploitation trappings. Along the way they discuss some of their recently seen (The Disaster Artist, John Wick - Chapter 2, Kurosawa's High and Low, Kevin Smith: Silent But Deadly and the killer elevator movie Down). You'll also hear about the latest Funikijam adventure, famous Jewish strippers and the acting award Dan got! Discover what's new Pussycat when you listen to Hot Date 72! It's the last episode of Saturday School Season 4, our exploration of Asian American troublemakers in film, and we don't want to say we saved the "best" for last, but we definitely saved the most badass for last. This week, we're talking about 1965's "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" by Russ Meyer, starring Tura Satana, Haji, and Lori Williams. It's a cult hit among certain circles: admirers include John Waters, Quentin Tarantino, and the late Roger Ebert, as well as fans of burlesque. Stories from the late Tura Satana link her to Elvis Presley's dance moves and the creation of Charlie's Angels. But the film is not as often talked about in Asian American circles, even though both Tura and Haji are biracial Asian women. Tura, who was in the incarceration camps as a kid, has a mix of Japanese, Filipina, Native American and Scots-Irish blood. Haji is British and Filipina American. There's an upcoming documentary about Tura Satana (narrated by Margaret Cho, co-produced by YOMYOMF) that is in currently in post-production, and we can't wait to see it. In the meantime, here's a taste of Tura, as Varla, who Phil Chung called "The Most Kickass Asian American Woman to Ever Grace the Silver Screen." And as a wrap-up to this semester, we ponder other Asian American troublemakers that didn't quite fit into our 10-episode season -- the renegades we are eternally grateful for, and even the ones who spout messages we think are harmful to society -- understanding that to truly appreciate Asian America is to grapple with all of Asian America, troublemakers included.

Matt and Mark delve into the big-boobed world of Russ Meyers this week when we review the 1965 cult classic Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! We attempt to explore the feminist angle of FPKK by juxtaposing the Varla character with the typical male-dominated action roles. What we get is an interesting hyperbole of exaggerated misogyny that may speak more truth then most men can admit.Download: 070 Faster Pussycat!

Welcome the newest episode of Dark Discussions, your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that’s fantastic. B-films have turned out to be pretty influential throughout the years. Most were made on shoe string budgets or were about topics that many folks considered nothing more than pulp. However over the years, a lot have been re-evaluated or even become classics. Very recently new filmmakers have paid tribute to the monster movies or roughies of yesteryear. In 2012, an Australian film entitled El Monstro Del Mar did just that and attracted notice from such media as Fangoria magazine. When three femme fatales come roaring into a small ocean village, they bring with them a big city attitude that a small town would consider alien. Hannah, a local girl, becomes intrigued by their free spirited mind-set. However, her grandfather begins to worry that the strangers' flamboyant ways could awaken the town's past. A past that was filled with bloodshed brought on by a supernatural being. With its three lead characters quite like those from the Russ Meyer classic, Faster Pussycat Kill Kill, and having a sea monster reminiscent of the beasts from 1950's science fiction horror films, El Monstro Del Mar is a mash up of two much loved genres. Director and writer, Stuart Simpson, leads a group of new, young filmmakers coming from Australia. Part of Dark Discussions Killer Fish Fest for the month of August, we review and critique and give our opinions. As always we welcome your comments: darkdiscussions@aol.com (written email or attached mp3 files) WWW.DARKDISCUSSIONS.COM
