Some may have factual origins, while others are completely fictional. But myths are more than mere stories and they serve a more profound purpose in ancient and modern cultures. Myths are sacred tales that explain the world and man's experience.   What is the purpose of a myth? People created myths thousands of years ago to tell how the world and things in it came to be. Myths also help to explain how people act or why things exist. What is a myth that explains something? An origin myth is something that cultures use to explain natural or social events in mythological terms. An example of this is the creation of the world through the tearing apart of a giant. What is classified as a myth?  A usually traditional story of ostensibly historical events that serves to unfold part of the world view of a people or explain a practice, belief, or natural phenomenon. What does a myth contain? While all myths are different, myths as such attempt to explain everyday phenomena. They typically involve gods or deities with supernatural powers, may or may not contain a hero or someone on a quest, and were passed down through oral tradition. Is a myth a lie or truth? The Oxford English Dictionary defines myth as a synonym for "untruth", "falsehood", or "lie". Four decades after Jeannette DePalma's tragic death, authors Jesse P. Pollack and Mark Moran present the definitive account of the shocking Springfield township cold case. As Springfield residents decorated for Halloween in September 1972, the crime rate in the quiet, affluent township was at its lowest in years. That mood was shattered when the body of sixteen-year-old Jeannette DePalma was discovered in the local woods, allegedly surrounded by strange objects. Some feared witchcraft was to blame, while others believed a serial killer was on the loose. Rumors of a police cover up ran rampant, and the case went unsolved - along with the murders of several other young women. Jesse P. Pollack is a New Jersey native who has served as a contributing writer and correspondent for Weird NJ magazine since 2001. In addition to Death on the Devil's Teeth, Pollack is the author of The Acid King (Simon & Schuster, 2018) and co-directed a 2021 documentary of the same name. Pollack is the co-host of Podcast 1289, the True Crime Movie Club podcast and the Devil's Teeth podcast. Mark Moran graduated from Parsons School of Design. In the early 1990s, Moran teamed up with Mark Sceurman to create Weird NJ magazine, the ultimate travel guide to New Jersey's local legends and best-kept secrets. Though she has seen spirits since she was 5 years old. She saw her first spirit at 5 while at a flea market on the grounds of Meek Estate Mansion. 20 years later it was verified she was indeed looking at the spirit of the daughter that once lived in that house, while she was on an investigation there. It was verified at the age of 12 that she was extremely sensitive to the world of spirits. Her family was looking at a home to buy and right away she knew something was there. She told her family she didn't want to live there because something was in that house. The dismissed her and moved in anyway. Not even a week later strange events started happening in the house and soon they would all become believers. She lived in fear of this for years. But at the age of 16 she became very interested in the field started doing evps, taking photos etc. By the time she was 20 she started working with teams and doing actual investigations. It went from fear, to intrigue, to passion and now a way of life for her. Being an empath and sensitive to spirits affects her daily. But she embraces her abilities and lets them help lead her on her journey in the paranormal. Here, one can find the unexplained “Spook Lights” dancing along the back roads and in the dark woods of northeastern Oklahoma.Cullan Hudson is the author of the supernatural thriller, The Mound, and Strange State: Mysteries and Legends of Oklahoma, a nonfiction collection of strange-but-true tales from the Sooner State. Many of those meticulously researched stories had never before been reported, while others were rediscovered by the author after having been forgotten for nearly a century. Hudson's short story, "The Iron Door: Curse of the Sierra Jumanos,” was included in the 2005 Red Dirt Anthology. Hudson enjoys traveling to paranormal locations and has visited sites from Central American pyramids to mysterious Moroccan mountains, haunted Roman Ruins and English castles to Loch Ness and Bigfoot's dark realm in the Pacific Northwest.
