It's one of the biggest and most unpredictable weeks of the year in professional wrestling, and Wrestling Tonight is here for all of it. Episode 145 takes you from the glow of Perth to the grit of Lowell, from The CW's cross-promotional chaos to AEW's calm confidence on Title Tuesday. Every company is making a statement and not all of them are speaking the same language. WWE Crown Jewel heads to Australia for the first time, trading the desert lights of Riyadh for the arena shine of Perth. On paper, it's a landmark: the first Crown Jewel outside Saudi Arabia, another PLE on ESPN in the US, and John Cena's final international PLE before retirement. But beneath the historic veneer, this show feels more corporate than creative. Cody Rhodes vs Seth Rollins is technically “brand warfare,” but the Crown Jewel title still feels like a branding exercise without meaning. Stephanie Vaquer vs Tiffany Stratton offers contrast and quality, but the match's stakes are as vague as the men's. Rhea Ripley's homecoming with Iyo Sky and Cena's farewell with AJ Styles will give the event its emotion, but the rest feels like presentation over purpose — a global commercial dressed up as a PLE. Across the ocean, TNA returns to Lowell for Bound for Glory, a show that should be the company's proudest moment but instead feels like a balancing act between rebirth and identity crisis. Trick Williams defends the TNA World Championship against Mike Santana in a match that will showcase charisma and intensity, but still carries the shadow of crossover influence. The Hardys and Team 3D will blow the roof off in a nostalgia-fueled tables match, yet it's a reminder that TNA's tag division still leans too heavily on its past. Leon Slater vs Je'Von Evans for the X Division Championship might be the purest wrestling of the night — a true flash of the TNA that once made fans believe. And Kelani Jordan vs Indi Hartwell for the Knockouts title should deliver, even if it highlights how much of the division's spotlight now comes from NXT. Bound for Glory 2025 will probably be a strong show bell-to-bell, but it's also an identity test — can TNA still feel like TNA while sharing its spotlight with WWE's developmental system? Meanwhile, AEW isn't flinching. Title Tuesday goes head-to-head with WWE and TNA's Showdown special on The CW, but Tony Khan isn't chasing the scoreboard anymore. AEW knows exactly what it is — and it's not playing defense. With Andrade El Idolo's shocking return and the debut of El Clon as the newest member of The Don Callis Family, AEW's creative direction feels confident, deliberate, and entirely its own. The “no-win” narrative misses the point: AEW doesn't need to win the week — it just needs to keep telling stories that matter. Elsewhere, Hikaru Shida confirmed she's re-signed with AEW, ending retirement rumors sparked by her stage work in Japan. And in Mexico, Bandido suffered a shoulder injury during his successful ROH World Title defense against Hechicero at CMLL Viernes Espectacular. Despite the setback, he's expected to continue teaming with Brody King as the AEW Tag Team Champions “Brodido.” The other side of that fight — the NXT/TNA Showdown — looks sharper than anyone expected after WWE scrapped the “Invasion” branding. The teams are locked, the captains are set, Mustafa Ali finally gets the North American Title shot he was promised before his 2023 release, and the tag titles from both companies go on the line between The Hardys and DarkState. Joe Hendry's vow to appear and Jordynne Grace's role as guest referee add the kind of wild-card energy that could make this one of the more memorable Tuesday nights in years. From Perth's global showcase to Lowell's nostalgia-fueled battleground, from AEW's quiet confidence to WWE's marketing machine, this week proves just how fragmented and fascinating the modern wrestling landscape has become. Every company is thriving — but not all of them know who they are.

Harry pulls in a trio of political pros—former Senator Barbara Boxer, Jonathan Capehart, and Norm Ornstein—to assess the fight over the shutdown. Who will the public blame? How long will it last? They turn next to the stunning federal raid in Chicago, with agents busting down doors and snipers dropping in from helicopters. Does the action signal not just the abandonment of the 4th Amendment, but the arrival of an American gestapo? Finally, the trio decode Trump's speech to top military leaders, with its ominous call to use U.S. cities as "training grounds" for troops. Learn more about your ad choices. A surprisingly convoluted build to the NXT Showdown with TNA Wrestling along with surprisingly weak booking by AEW for its 6th Anniversary Show and Title Tuesday special lead the program. Host Adam Silverstein opens by diving into WWE's NXT [4:20] where the don't-call-it-an-invasion by TNA stood as the focus, including surprise returns by Mustafa Ali and Matt Cardona, with Ricky Saints, Trick Williams, Jacy Jayne, Kelani Jordan and Mike Santana standing as team captains going into the special show. "The Silver King" then breaks down the AEW 6th Anniversary Show and build to Title Tuesday [31:40] with Jon Moxley choking the life out of Darby Allin, Hangman Page suddenly feuding with Samoa Joe, Kris Statlander reverting to an old gimmick for no reason, Toni Storm getting "What?!" chanted during her best promo of 2025 and Andrade returning to attack Kenny Omega as one of two new Don Callis Family members. The U.S. Government shutdown has done little to scare investors off of ‘Risk Mountain', as stocks, Bitcoin and Gold are all at record highs. With no end in sight, at what point do investors stop believing that government dysfunction won't hurt their portfolios, or will something else scare away their exuberance. Washington is once again at a standstill. The latest federal shutdown is more than a partisan clash—it's a reminder of how badly America needs real fiscal discipline. Endless spending battles, continuing resolutions, and bloated budgets have left taxpayers footing the bill for a government that refuses to live within its means. President Trump has warned of “irreversible” changes to the federal workforce during this shutdown, but the deeper problem isn't staffing levels—it's a budgeting process that's broken at its core.Sound economics goes beyond fiscal responsibility. Free trade, open markets, and competition—not tariffs, subsidies, or mandates—are what drive prosperity. From tariffs on movies and medicine to micromanagement of banking and biotech, Washington has drifted far from the principles that once made America the world's economic leader. It's time to rein in unnecessary spending, reject protectionism, and return to policies that let people prosper! In this episode of This Week's Economy, I'll break down the latest news—from the shutdown to new Trump administration tariffs—and share solutions that can move us forward. In today's episode of This Week's Economy, join me for Econ 101 as we explore whether markets ever truly fail. You may not be in a setback — you might be in a showdown. If you feel like you've let life push you around long enough, you may have entered a “Showdown Season” — a time when God is calling His people to stand in faith and reveal His power in the face of impossible odds. Drawing from 1 Kings 18:19–39, Pastor Touré unpacks Elijah's confrontation with the prophets of Baal to show how God uses tension, pressure, and uncertainty as the stage for His glory. When we stop wavering between opinions and fully trust that “the Lord, He is God,” revival breaks out. This is a word for anyone standing between fear and faith, hesitation and action. God is stripping away emotional crutches and calling His people back to confidence, conviction, and clarity. It's time to rise in boldness, because the same Spirit that answered Elijah by fire still works through you.

The Supreme Court is gearing up for one of its most consequential cases involving Donald Trump, and the timeline is moving at breakneck speed. Just over a month ago, on September 4th, Trump's legal team filed a petition asking the nation's highest court to review a decision from the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals. The case, officially titled Donald J. Trump, President of the United States versus V.O.S. Selections, Incorporated, represents a fascinating legal battleground that's captured national attention. What makes this case particularly striking is how quickly the Supreme Court acted. Within days of the petition being filed, Trump's attorneys submitted a motion asking the Court to expedite everything - the review process, briefing schedules, and oral arguments. This wasn't just any routine request; it was a clear signal that the stakes were extraordinarily high. The Court's response was swift and decisive. On September 9th, the justices granted both the motion to expedite and the petition for review. But here's where things get really interesting - they also consolidated this case with another Trump-related matter, case number 24-1287, creating a legal showdown that would receive a full hour of oral argument time. The briefing schedule reads like a legal sprint. Opening briefs were due by September 19th, with amicus briefs following by September 23rd. Response briefs had to be filed by October 20th, and reply briefs are due by October 30th. That's an incredibly compressed timeline for a Supreme Court case, especially one involving a sitting president.Mark your calendars, because oral arguments are scheduled for Wednesday, November 5th - Election Day 2025. The timing couldn't be more dramatic or consequential. While the specific details of what V.O.S. Selections does or what the underlying dispute involves remain somewhat opaque from the public docket, the urgency suggests this case touches on fundamental questions of presidential power and authority. The Federal Circuit Court of Appeals issued its decision on August 29th, and within a week, Trump's team was at the Supreme Court's doorstep. That kind of rapid-fire legal maneuvering typically indicates that constitutional principles or significant government powers are at stake. What's particularly noteworthy is how the Court handled the consolidation. They've essentially created a single, comprehensive review of related Trump administration legal challenges, streamlining what could have been separate, drawn-out proceedings into one decisive moment. The Supreme Court has been dealing with Trump-related cases throughout the Roberts Court era, but this particular combination of expedited review, consolidated proceedings, and Election Day oral arguments creates a perfect storm of legal and political significance. As we watch this unfold over the coming weeks, the implications will likely extend far beyond just this one case, potentially shaping presidential powers for future administrations.Thank you for tuning in to today's legal update. Make sure to come back next week for more developments as this historic case moves toward oral arguments. This has been a Quiet Please production. On today's episode, Andy & DJ discuss prosecutors hammering the Charlie Kirk assassination suspect with DNA, gun, text and rooftop evidence, the government shutdown, and Netflix showcasing young students coming together to set up and celebrate their teacher's gay wedding in a cartoon.
John welcomes former Obama White House comms director (and his ersthwile cohost on The Circus) Jennifer Palmieri to discuss the shuttering of the federal government earlier this week. Palmieri argues that Democrats were right to deny Republicans the votes it needed to further operationalize its agenda; that focusing on health care is fighting both the good fight (morally) and the right fight (politically) for her party; and that Donald Trump's embrace of Russ Vought's plan to lay off federal workers and cancel programs in blue states is only making it more likely that the GOP ends up being blamed for the shutdown. On this episode of WTH Extra! Dany and Marc discuss Marc's column, Democrats shut down the government to protect covid spending, not Obamacare. In the umpteenth government shutdown in recent memory, Democrats have decided that permanent COVID subsides for healthcare, already extended and phased out by a Democrat-controlled government, are more essential than keeping the government open. But… are Republicans actually considering agreeing to D demands? And for Democrats… why another effort at self-immolation? Marc makes it clear, “Democrats claim they are trying to preserve the Obamacare tax credits. Wrong. They're trying to preserve American Rescue Plan tax credits. The pandemic emergency officially ended in 2023. There is no rationale for extending COVID relief spending two years later.”Read the transcript here.Subscribe to our Substack here.

On Wednesday's Mark Levin Show, WREC's Ben Ferguson fills in. The Schumer shutdown serves merely as a tactic to instill fear and undermine President Trump. Democratic members of Congress are insisting on receiving their salaries during the shutdown, yet it falls on Schumer to resolve the situation. He fears losing his position and facing a primary challenge from AOC. Sen Ruben Gallego asserts that he cannot afford to forgo a paycheck, despite earning $174,000 annually. Is this the kind of representation we want? They don't care about the struggles of those who truly live paycheck to paycheck. In addition, Democrats shut the government down demanding for illegal aliens to receive health care which makes it difficult for American citizens who need those benefits. They are also demanding NPR and PBS funding, they want to revoke rural hospital fundings, this is why they won't lift they shut down, because they are not getting what they want. Also, according to the left, Trump is unwell and unfit for the presidency. They argue that he is mentally unstable and immature, suggesting that his actions are jeopardizing the healthcare of millions, which is absolutely false. Learn more about your ad choices. The federal government shut down on Wednesday as President Donald Trump threatened mass federal layoffs. Republicans are blaming Democrats for the shutdown, while Democrats are refusing to support a Republican spending bill without guarantees to extend Obamacare provisions set to expire and reverse GOP health care cuts earlier this year.“Democrats are ... trying to reverse some of the cuts from the 'One Big Beautiful Bill' that was passed earlier this year to Medicaid,” says Intercept politics reporter Jessica Washington. “So what Democrats are really trying to message here is that they're fighting for health care, both to reverse some of these Medicaid cuts and also to ensure that the Affordable Care Act subsidies continue.”This week on The Intercept Briefing, senior politics reporter Akela Lacy speaks to Washington about the government shutdown and the impact it will have on public services, including essential services and federal workers. We're also following a federal court case where an appointee of Ronald Reagan blasted the Trump administration for unlawfully targeting pro-Palestine students for protected speech. “It's a historic ruling that rightly affirms that the First Amendment protects non-citizens lawfully present in the U.S. just as it protects citizens,” says Ramya Krishnan, lecturer at Columbia University Law School and senior staff attorney at the Knight First Amendment Institute, which represented plaintiffs in the case. “And if free speech means anything in this country, it means the government can't lock you up simply because it disagrees with your political views.”Listen to the full conversation of The Intercept Briefing on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen. You can support our work at theintercept.com/join.
