The coroner initially believed that Steve's death was a result of a heart attack, but as time went by, his family began to notice that Lana was acting strangely. This prompted further investigation which shifted the whole picture in another direction.YouTube video of this story: Bento Box from Amazon: https://amzn.to/4hpuGXzSupport the showAll our links (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Merch, etc):https://linktr.ee/crimeandcoffeeFacebook Group to discuss episodes:www.facebook.com/groups/crimeandcoffeecouplepodcast/References available at https://www.crimeandcoffeecouple.com a few days after this podcast airs.Case Suggestions Form: https://forms.gle/RQbthyDvd98SGpVq8Remember to subscribe to our podcast in your favorite podcast player. This is Part 2 of the 100th Episode of Music Talks, which is also the final episode of Music Talks. Five years and 100 episodes felt to me like a good time to bring things to a close. It has been a fantastic, joyful, fulfilling and most importantly FUN experience doing this Podcast, and it is something I will always treasure. To mark this occasion, I thought it was time for me to appear as a guest on my own show and I'm delighted to say that my very first guest, Steve Clayton, agreed to come back and be the host of this episode. Thank you Steve! It will be no surprise to anyone that I had quite a lot to say hence splitting the episode into two parts, both of which are a vinyl friendly 45 ish minutes in length! Music Talks was originally conceived as a 'music nerd' Podcast but over time it morphed into something different with many guests not just telling their life story but also being incredibly open and honest about the ups and downs they had faced. I felt I had to honour that in these episodes and do the same. In musical terms my episode contains major and minor chords but of course music (and life) is only interesting when there are both!. I hope you enjoy the stories and that even for my oldest friends there might be a new story or two in there. As far as the music choices go these were my song choices for Part 2. 90's -  Don't Look Back In Anger *-           Oasis 00's -  First Day of My Life             -           Bright Eyes10's -  Long Walk Home                  -           Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band20's -  The Only Road                      -           Elbow   * The episode was recorded just BEFORE Oasis announced their reunion tour! I say my thank you' s at the end of the episode but a heartfelt thanks to all my guests and everyone who ever listened, you gave me SO much for which I will always be grateful! To close out Music Talks completely there will be a couple of compilation episodes in October & November and then the annual ' Favourite Albums of the Year' with Steven Routledge in December. I hope you will be able to listen to those episodes but in the meantime I hope you enjoy this one :-) If you would like to be on the show then please contact me at musictalkspod@outlook.com Please follow and like Music Talks on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/musictalkspod . September 4th will see the 100th and final episode of Music Talks and I know the guest for that episode pretty well as its ……ME!! Given I will be moving chairs I needed someone to be the host of that episode and who better than Steve Clayton, a dear friend, my very first guest on Music Talks and one of the best communicators I know. Given his role at Microsoft is ‘Chief Storyteller' that's no surprise. The original episode I did with Steve went out on June 25th, 2019, but I didn't  want to just re-post it. The brilliant Andy Rhode at Audionauts has been helping me edit Music Talks for almost three years now and so I asked him to re-edit and remaster that original recording and I think he's done a great job. I was never happy with the sound on that first episode and whilst it's still not perfect it sounds a lot better than it did. He's also edited it down to a Vinyl friendly 45 minutes and I'm pleased to say that most of what has been edited out is me not Steve! For those of you who have heard the original episode I hope this will be an enjoyable reminder and for anyone that hasn't then I hope this will be a good introduction to the host of Episode 100. Steve's music choices were: 70's –   Go Your Own Way -                                                 Fleetwood Mac80's -    Where The Streets Have No Name -                    U290's -    Unfinished Sympathy -                                          Massive Attack00's -    The Planets Bend Between Us                              Snow Patrol10's -    A Sky Full of Stars                                                    ColdplayEnjoy and see you on September 4th If you would like to be on the show then please contact me at musictalkspod@outlook.com Please follow and like Music Talks on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/musictalkspod . Are you tired of the same old outbound sales tactics that just don't work? In this episode, we'll be joined by entrepreneur Steve Claydon, founder of The Outbound Game, to chat about shaking things up with gamification and personalization. Steve used to be stuck in the trenches of sales, and let's face it, it can be a grind. But he realized there had to be a better way to motivate salespeople and drive results. That's where gamification came in. We'll hear how Steve used fun and competition to turn photo uploads and inventory management into a game, skyrocketing engagement and success for car dealerships. But gamification is just one piece of the puzzle. Steve will also share his insights on personalized sales strategies, the power of video content, and why focusing on quality over quantity is the key to sales and marketing success. So, ditch the generic emails and phone calls, and get ready to learn how to stand out from the crowd and crush your goals.     Find Startup Hustle Everywhere: https://gigb.co/l/YEh5   This episode is sponsored by Full Scale: https://fullscale.io   Visit the Outbound Game website:  https://www.outbound.game    Learn more about Steve Claydon: https://www.linkedin.com/in/thesteveclaydon    Sign up for the Startup Hustle newsletter: https://startuphustlenews.com     Highlighted Discussion Points Sales, marketing, and gamification with entrepreneur Steve Clayton. 0:31 Incentivizing salespeople to take photos and upload inventory using gamification. 3:27 Outbound sales strategies, emphasizing the importance of personalized efforts. 7:36 Personalized sales strategies and the use of AI in outbound email campaigns. 12:08 Personalized video content for outbound marketing. 16:32 Prioritizing marketing efforts and simplifying strategies to achieve goals. 20:09 Sales and entrepreneurship, prioritizing quality over quantity. 24:53 Entrepreneurship, sales, and delegation. 27:26 Gamifying sales and marketing with Outbound Game. 32:01  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Our environment is important, which is why being more sustainable is key. In this episode of the Class E Podcast, we talked to Alexa Valdovinos ‘25 about her sustainable instrument reed company, Monte Valle LLC. From winning the 2022 Paladin Pitch competition to now, Valdovinos shares her entrepreneurial journey and plans for her company and discusses how she balances her life as both a student and entrepreneur. Guest: Alexa Valdavinos '25 Host: Mary Sturgill Producer: Isabella Martinez '24   TRANSCRIPT: MARY: Hi there, everyone. Welcome to this episode of the Class E Podcast. I am your host Mary Sturgill. This is the podcast that is brought to you through a partnership between the Hill Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Communication Studies Department here at Furman University. And we're right in the middle of our summer series this summer where we talk to current Furman students and recent alumni about their entrepreneurial ventures. And today my special guest is Alexa Valdovinos, who was the winner of the Paladin Pitch Competition not this past year but the year before that and she is the founder of her company Monte Valle LLC. Did I say that correctly?  ALEXA: Yes.  MARY: Okay. Welcome to the show.  ALEXA: Thank you.  MARY: So, Alexa, tell us about Monte Valle and how you came up with the concept for that.  ALEXA: Yeah! So, it all started in high school. So, I have been a musician for eight years. I started off playing the flute and then I expanded into playing saxophone in high school. And so it all started off in my little band room during COVID… 2021, peak COVID. There were probably five kids in my class, so we didn't really do a whole lot.  MARY: Right.  ALEXA: And so I kind of sat there one day and I was like, you know, Mr. Stewart, who was my band director at the time, I wonder if we can make reeds out of something else like they have so much waste. I mean, you use them for like a couple of weeks, and then you just throw them away but there's so much waste with them.  MARY: Right.  ALEXA: And so we got to thinking and he was like, you know, I think you're onto something Alexa, but maybe you should wait until college to really like fully grasp and have more, you know, access to resources. I'm like, okay, I'm gonna do it and so I had joined FUSEA (Furman University Student Entrepreneurship Association) my freshman year because I just knew that I wanted to be an entrepreneur. And I remember Matt Reed at the time, who was working with the Hill Institute, he told me, okay, Alexa do you remember that idea that you had with the reeds? Because I pitched it in the fall semester at their little like Big Ideas Competition.  MARY: Right.  ALEXA: And that's when I really like kind of developed it a little bit more. And I was like, I looked at him funny, I was like, yes. And he's like, well, do you want to, you know, pursue it? I'm like, oh, 100% and so that's when, you know, I started working with the Hill Institute and I actually went to Charleston to compete in the SOCON entrepreneurial challenge. And that's when, you know, I had like three days to build the whole pitch deck and develop this whole product idea.  MARY: Wow.  ALEXA: Yeah. So that's when it fully I would say took off.  MARY: Yeah. So, you went down to Charleston before you won our pitch competition here, right? So they were just like here, let's, let's run with this and you're like, “absolutely.”  ALEXA: Yeah. So, what had happened is that they were taking Brooke Dominiak, who was the winner the year before me with To-Go Bros and she was in the profit portion. And they were like, well, we don't have anybody for the nonprofit portion. So, would you want to do it? And so I was like, I mean, a free trip to Charleston, sure. It'll be a good opportunity. So that's when I, you know, it was like, you know, Matt had told me at this event, you know, you only have three days and I was like, oh, okay, so that took long hours of making a pitch deck and, you know, working on everything. I think it was working up until like, one o'clock in the morning the night before.  MARY: Yeah.  ALEXA: So, it was a process for sure.  MARY: Yeah, yeah. So that was…was that the fall and then spring you won the Paladin Pitch Competition?  ALEXA: Yeah, Charleston… I went to Charleston, probably I think the February. That February in the spring and then I competed in Paladin Pitch that March.  MARY: Yeah. Excellent. So what… you've been working on the company for a little over a year now, diligently. And so, what kinds of things have you learned from this process?  ALEXA: I've learned quite a bit. I've learned that you know, there's a lot of different little nitty gritty details in order to start a business. You know, it's not easy to just say I want to start a business and do it.  MARY: I have a business.  ALEXA: Yeah, exactly. You know, like it takes you know, making it LLC approved, going through all the proper permissions, making sure that everything is legal…  MARY: The licenses and all that yeah.  ALEXA: …the licensing, the buying, you know, for my product, in particular, prototyping and researching, and a really important thing that I've learned is that not everything's gonna go how I originally thought it was going to go. I remember, you know, I had this huge vision. Like I wanted everything to be compostable, biodegradable, but Olivia Esquivel, who is the co-founder of Southern Pressed. She was one of the judges when I won and she told me, you know, like, going in the industry of the sustainability organic industry is hard.  MARY: Yeah.  ALEXA: And so not everything is gonna go how you want it to and that was hard for me.  MARY: Right.  ALEXA: And so realizing that you know, it's okay if things don't go the way that your blueprint ideas say it's going to go.  MARY: Yeah. And just because they don't go that way right now, doesn't mean they won't in the future.  ALEXA: Of course, of course.  MARY: So what prompted you to create the sustainable portion of this? Like you could create reeds out of other things, right? But how does the sustainability play into that?  ALEXA: I've always, you know, so both my parents are from Mexico. I've grown up going there since I was really little, but I also grew up in the mountains here. I grew up in North Carolina, about 30 minutes from here.  MARY: Yeah.  ALEXA: So I've just always grown up around, you know, forest and mountains and my parents always taught me, you know, take care of what you have, you know, let's be sustainable, and let's recycle and all that stuff. But it was really during COVID when I had a lot of thinking time and was like, you know, reeds… they produce a lot of waste. And it adds up because I'm just one musician out of millions on this planet who use like boxes of reeds over weeks of time, and each of those produce single use plastic, single use, you know, waste, and that's what really got me was like there needs to be change because I want to have a future. I want my kids one day to have a future and growing up in the mountains and if you know, we don't do something about it…  MARY: You're gonna lose them.  ALEXA: Yeah, we're going to lose them. So that was my biggest I would say motivation.  MARY: So, you've been prototyping. How's that going? And what's going on with it?  ALEXA: Yeah, so right now we are… I'm working with my old high school. And right now they have a reed machine, which is what helps create the reeds itself.  MARY: Yeah.  ALEXA: So right now they're gonna prototype those, prototypes for the material, use the machine, see how that's working… I'm also working with the middle school over there as well, to kind of do some researching with some 3D printing as well. So it's, it's going, you know, it was definitely a long process to figure out, you know, what we need, what we don't need, sourcing the material because that was something that was really important to me…  MARY: Yeah.  ALEXA: …was making sure that I source well.  MARY: So what are you… what is the material? What are you making them out of? Because I know originally in your pitch, and this is maybe how something might have changed is that bamboo grows really quickly. Let's do bamboo. It's a renewable source.  ALEXA: Yes, that's what we're hoping to use right now. We're also kind of just for the prototyping just to make sure that all the machines work and stuff, we're using cane but I'm also using mostly bamboo, which is what I originally had wanted to and what I told in my pitch.  MARY: Yeah, yeah. Oh, excellent. Excellent. So you're just setting all that up to be able to do the bamboo and then are you working with bamboo farmers? I mean, are there bamboo farmers?  ALEXA: Well, I'm working with…I worked with a small business right now to kind of start sourcing. I'm hoping that maybe in the future, I can work with bamboo farmers. I can work with the Veterans Healing Farm up in Hendersonville, North Carolina.  MARY: Oh, yeah. Yeah.  ALEXA: They grow bamboo on their farm and it's, you know, it's a nonprofit organization.  MARY: Love that, that partnership with the nonprofit and yeah, they're doing great things up there. That's awesome. Because I don't know of any bamboo farmers.  ALEXA: I don't either. I just know people who always tell me to like Alexa like can you come, you know, like I have bamboo all in my backyard.  MARY: Can you come get it?  ALEXA: Yeah.  MARY: You'll be having everybody come, come ask you to do that. Here I have some bamboo for you. What do you think you've learned through this process that you were just like, wow, I'm so glad I learned that early on?  ALEXA: I would say it's what Olivia Esquivel told me is that it's okay if you compromise. You have to pick and choose your battles, especially with sustainability and businesses because you know, it's not cheap to start a business either. And especially, you know, if you want to get it off the ground you can't, you know, and you…specifically buying organically, it's hard. It's expensive.  MARY: Let's talk about this…packaging is one of the most not sustainable issues with the reeds, right? And so how are you meeting that problem?  ALEXA: Yeah, I'm also sourcing more sustainably. I'm hoping to use in the future some sort of like beeswax that will hopefully control the humidity and moisture because that's a really big thing…  MARY: Yeah.  ALEXA: …in reeds that, you know, in transit, they're very fragile. I'm hoping to also work with Bubble Paper. It's a company that makes basically bubble wrap but it makes it out of cardboard and paper so I'm just trying to source and make it more sustainable more…not as like wasteful and reusable. Perhaps. Yeah.  MARY: And that makes sense because…and then you have to do some testing I would imagine to make sure that that moisture doesn't get in in transit.  ALEXA: Yeah, that's what we're hoping to do through this whole process with my high school throughout the summer. It's just once we test the reeds, test all the other material as well.  MARY: So, what advice would you have for other students who have an idea… because you very well could have sat back and said, oh, that's a great idea, but never done anything about it, right? And I love the fact that you're reaching back to your high school and they're helping you with it to get those high school students involved in this because I think that will probably influence the future entrepreneurs even more than you know, right? What advice would you give to other potential entrepreneurs who might have an idea but haven't acted on it yet?  ALEXA: I would say the biggest piece of advice I would give is take baby steps. You know, I have to do that a lot as a college student.  MARY: I started to say, yeah.  ALEXA: Yeah. As a college student, I don't have all the time in the world and you know, I'm involved in a lot and so knowing that it's okay, like it's okay to think…like it's gonna take time. It's gonna take time, but don't lose sight of your goal. Yeah, I know that there were definitely times… oh sorry.  MARY: No, keep going.  ALEXA: There were definitely times where I just got so caught up in college life that I was just like, oh my gosh, am I really gonna be able to do this? I've never done this before. You know, I'm a first gen college student like I don't… I can't even tackle that. Like, am I gonna be able to do this? But just remembering that, you know, you have an idea, and sticking to those goals and knowing that baby steps are okay, is the biggest piece of advice.   MARY: Yeah, that was gonna be my next question. How in the world are you balancing this because aren't you president of FUSEA as well?  ALEXA: Not this year.  MARY: You were last year.  ALEXA: I was the VP of marketing.  MARY: That's a lot, right? So how are you balancing all that?  ALEXA: Well, yeah, taking baby steps. Just like taking the time that I can. Like last year, last semester, I would focus on my school, but then take the time that I did, to just work on pitch decks, work on emails, doing that… just taking a little bit, increments of time.  MARY: Yeah.  ALEXA: And just working on it little by little. And in the end, it'll add up.  MARY: Yeah, that's true.  ALEXA: Also focusing like my mental health, making sure that I'm doing that and finding a good balance.  MARY: The… you know what I do? I work in Pomodoro's, which I think I've talked about this before on the podcast. Because you do have to compartmentalize things like that when you're having all these balls in the air, right? And so, I work for 25 minutes on this project, and then 25 minutes on this project and 25 minutes on this project, and I get up between those projects, or whatever it is that I'm working on. And you know, go get some water, go have a quick chat with somebody or something like that. And then it refreshes my brain a little bit to sit right back down and get right back into it. So, those 25 minutes that I'm spending on that particular thing are really intentional and really focused on that thing, right? And so, I'm not thinking about anything else while I'm in that 25-minute time period. That's helpful and I love the fact that you're pretty much doing that at this young age. It took me a long time to figure that out.  ALEXA: It took me a long time too.  MARY: So, what's next?  ALEXA: So, after this… after I prototype all of my materials, do the proper research, I'm hoping that I can start selling, you know, get my online business going and hoping to distribute to high schools. That's what I'm hoping to do as well… sell directly to high schools and middle schools in the area and up in North Carolina. That's where I'm hoping to get my start because you know, that's where I grew up.  MARY: Right.  ALEXA: And so that would be the next step to just getting the prototyping done, making sure that it's good to go and then selling.  MARY: This is… so this is gonna be totally online, right? And people from all over the world could find you, right? You just have to…  ALEXA: Yeah.  MARY: …help them find you a little bit.  ALEXA: Yeah.  MARY: Yeah. So, I love that because, I mean, I'm thinking of so many marketing ideas, which I'm sure you have a plan or are coming up with a plan for how to go about doing that. I love that. So, you did Greenville Starts. Tell me about that experience as a college student too because like you needed one more thing on your plate. Greenville Starts is a great program that helps entrepreneurs kind of launch their business no matter where they are in their business, right? And take it to the next level, but it is time-consuming. You are meeting you know, every week, right? So tell us how Greenville Starts kind of help you.   ALEXA: Oh my gosh, it was an amazing opportunity. They teach you just so many amazing things from that program. I learned leaps and bounds. You know, so many so much information that I wouldn't have learned on my own. You know, it definitely was like, you know, time… time…I had to learn time management a lot with that because every week I had to come down here, make sure I take an hour of my day, then come back, make sure I get everything done. But it was… all it was worth it.  MARY: Yeah.  ALEXA: I could say that. You know, I get to learn from so many other people as well.  MARY: Experts in their field.  ALEXA: Yes. And see so many different markets, see so many different levels. There's so many people there who you know, have a business already or are wanting to start one and it was all wonderful just to see all the different walks of life and all the different speakers that they would have come in helped so so much.  MARY: Yeah. What is the one big takeaway that you took away from them?  ALEXA: Oh, that's hard.  MARY: Because there's so many, I know.  ALEXA: There's so many. The biggest takeaway I got is planning…planning, planning, planning. You have to plan out everything beforehand. You have to plan out what your budget is going to be. You have to plan out where you want to distribute. You have to plan out what your pitch is, what your market is, and what your point of sales is going to be. Planning, planning, planning is what I learned the most.  MARY: So, when you… are you… how are you raising money? I mean, we know you won the pitch competition and so that's helped some.  ALEXA: Yeah, that's kind of where I'm starting right now. And I'm just hoping to kind of base everything off of my winnings from Paladin Pitch and then hopefully in the future if I do get it off the ground, that's where I'm hoping to..  MARY: When you get off the ground.  ALEXA: Well, yes. When I get it off. Not if…when.  MARY: Yeah. So, the sales then will hopefully maintain you.  ALEXA: Yes, that's what I'm hoping. MARY: Yeah, for sure, for sure. And I think you have found a really important niche too, because we don't really think about sustainability in the music industry at all. And I think you can come and broaden even beyond the reeds. Have you thought about that at all?  ALEXA: Oh, definitely. I have also started prototyping guitar picks. They're made by a business named Steve Clayton. They've made guitar picks for the Beach Boys…for all these big names. And they have a line of guitar picks that are compostable…  MARY: Oh, I love that.  ALEXA: You just throw them in the ground, they're good to go. So I've been prototyping that. I'm hoping to make drumsticks in the future. I'm definitely hoping to expand because the music industry is, I mean, probably one of the most well established, if not the most established industry.  MARY: Yeah.  ALEXA: I mean it's been around for centuries, centuries. And there hasn't really been a huge change. You know, people find something that they like and they stick with it.  MARY: Right.  ALEXA: And they like consistency. So…  MARY: Yeah. And that may be your biggest barrier…is getting people to try the new thing. ALEXA: Yeah.  MARY: The new reed because they're so used to what they're used to.  ALEXA: Yeah, that's why I'm hoping to start in the school system because I know that…  MARY: Start them young.  ALEXA: Start them young. Show them that they… that they're good.  MARY: Yeah.  ALEXA: And they're gonna keep sticking with them throughout their whole career.  MARY: Absolutely. Absolutely. I love the way that you think Alexa.  ALEXA: Aw, thank you.  MARY: Thank you so much for coming on.  ALEXA: Aw, thank you so much for having me.  MARY: All right. That does it for this episode of the Class E Podcast. Remember, if you or someone you know is an entrepreneur, check out the Greenville Starts program. Just go to the Furman website, the Hill Institute's website, and you'll see information there about it. If the fall cohort is full, then of course, we're starting a spring cohort. So, put your name on that list to get one of those cohorts and learn from the experts no matter where you are in your business. Also, if you're a student like Alexa, and you have an idea, don't sit on your laurels, put the idea together and join the Big Ideas Competition coming up in the fall. And then of course in the spring, the Paladin Pitch competition as well because what we do is we have you pitch for the big ideas and then each of those winners go into the big spring pitch. So, you could get some money like Alexa to launch your big idea. Listeners, thank you for tuning in today. You can watch us on YouTube. If you have not done that, jump on over to our YouTube channel. And of course, you can listen to the podcast wherever you get your podcasts. Remember this podcast is brought to you through a partnership between the Hill Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the Communication Studies department here at Furman University. This week we have 2 very special guests. In honor of Father's day, we are joined by the Husbands of the Closet, Wes and Emery. And we will be bringing you two cases of wives who killed their husbands. First up is the murder of Bob Harris. Bob and Colleen Harris were a lovely and well-off California couple in the early 70's. In 2013 Bob was shot in the head and murdered with Colleen suffering from amnesia with no memory of this traumatic event. What police uncovered about Colleen's track record with husbands would shock and disturb them. Next is the case of Steve Clayton. Steve was a very successful entrepreneur. He found several companions over the years, but the relationships always ended. That is, until he found Lana, a sweet nurse from Oklahoma. Nine years later, Steve was found at the bottom of the stairs in their home, from a heart attack, or was it? *Crimes & Closets is a true crime podcast production of Skoldon, LLC Sources for Bob: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/191486549/robert-edward-harris https://www.mtdemocrat.com/prospecting/shotgun-weddings-tells-the-story-of-colleen-batten-harris/ Snapped: Colleen Harris, Season 32, Episode 4 (2023) Book: Shotgun Weddings: The Saga of Grandma Cokey, California's Serial Husband Killer (2015) Sources for Steve: https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/heraldonline/name/steven-clayton-obituary?id=9605586 https://heavy.com/news/2018/08/lana-clayton-sue/ https://www.oxygen.com/accident-suicide-or-murder/crime-news/how-lana-clayton-poisoned-husband-steve-clayton-with-eye https://www.sportskeeda.com/pop-culture/where-is-lana-clayton-now-whereabouts-explored-ahead-american-monster-id https://www.wsoctv.com/news/local/lake-wylie-woman-accused-killing-husband-with-eye-drops-appear-court/IBBQWHZ63BARZDAD5Z7GWK5ZIY/ https://www.heraldonline.com/news/local/crime/article249858938.html https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/01/17/eye-drops-manslaughter-husband-wife/ Oxygen network's : Accident, Suicide or Murder S4 E13 48 Hours S34 E25: Eye Drop Homicide --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/crimesandclosets/message

After investigating the tabulating irregularities, it was determined that Jeffrey Weinstein defeated Steve Clayton by a single vote.  3:10pm- Earlier in the week, Springfield Township in Montgomery County voted to ban the “Thin Blue Line” logo from its government buildings. According to a CBS3 news report, one member of the Board of Commissioners even compared the logo to the Confederate Flag.  3:25pm- According to a Wall Street Journal report, “[t]he Justice Department considered having FBI agents monitor a search by President Biden's lawyers for classified documents at his homes but decided against it.” 3:30pm- During her Wednesday press briefing, White House Press Secretary refused to directly answer questions about why there wasn't a visitor log for President Joe Biden's Delaware homes considering how frequently he works from home.  3:40pm- According to a report from Jessica Chasmar at Fox News, President Joe Biden “met with at least 14 of Hunter Biden's business associates while he was vice president in the Obama White House, casting further doubt on the president's repeated claims that he had no knowledge of his son's foreign business dealings.” The report contradicts President Biden's 2019 statement—when he vociferously stated he had never met with any of Hunter Biden's business associates. 4:00pm- Fox News White House Correspondent Jacqui Heinrich questioned Karin Jean-Pierre about whether the Department of Justice (DOJ) or White House would be investigating possible national security risks to President Joe Biden's mishandling of classified documents. Unsurprisingly, Jean-Pierre declined to answer the question and instead referred reporters to the DOJ—which, according to several reporters, is also reluctant to provide comprehensive answers.  4:25pm- On Twitter, billionaire Elon Musk wrote, the World Economic Forum “is increasingly becoming an unelected world government that the people never asked for and don't want.” Panelists during one of the WEF's meetings predicted that there could soon be a catastrophic cyber attack. 4:35pm- Eli Lake—Contributing Editor at Commentary Magazine & Host of The Reeducation Podcast—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his latest article, “American Nomenklatura.” In the piece, Lake writes of social media's content moderators and the role they play according to revelations in the “Twitter File” releases: “In just a few short years, this nomenklatura has come to constitute an implicit ruling class on the Internet, one that collectively determines what information and news sources the rest of us should see on major platforms. Talk about ‘free speech' and ‘the First Amendment' may actually be beside the point here. The Twitter that Musk bought was part of a larger machine—one that attempts to shape conversations online by amplifying, muzzling, and occasionally banning participants who run afoul of its dogma.” You can read the full article at: https://www.commentary.org/articles/eli-lake/twitter-files-reveal-american-nomenklatura/ 4:50pm- On Tuesday night, Flyers' defenseman Ivan Provorov chose not to participate in pre-game warmups—citing a reluctance to wear rainbow-colored “Pride Night” gear. Speaking with the press after the game, Provorov stated “I respect everybody. I respect everybody's choices…my choice is to stay true to myself and to my religion.” Despite his explanation, sports journalists from outlets like Sports Illustrated and The Athletic expressed outrage over his decision not to wear “Pride Night” equipment.  5:00pm- Dr. EJ Antoni—Research Fellow for Regional Economics in the Center for Data Analysis at The Heritage Foundation—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss the expectation that the United States will hit the debt ceiling on Thursday. In a letter to Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warned, “[f]ailure to meet the government's obligations would cause irreparable harm to the U.S. economy, the livelihoods of all Americans, and global financial stability.” Meanwhile, Congressman James Comer (R-TN) told Jake Tapper that “our national debt is one of the biggest threats to our national security.” So, who is right? Dr. Antoni breaks it all down.  5:10pm- During the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, former Vice President Al Gore stated that we aren't doing enough to combat climate change and, consequently, we are “boiling the ocean.” PLUS Rich and Matt obtain exclusive audio from the elites in Davos… 5:25pm- In an interview from October 2022, Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum Klaus Schwab stated that the “future” is a global economy that embraces “stakeholder capitalism.” In fact, Schwab wrote the book on stakeholder capitalism: “Stakeholder Capitalism: A Global Economy the Works for Progress, People and Planet.” 5:50pm- A man on social media discovers it will take 5-days to charge his brand-new Hummer EV… 5:55pm- President Joe Biden ordered a cheeseburger for lunch—and The Washington Post wants you to know all about it.  6:15pm- James Varney—Writer at RealClearInvestigations—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to talk about his latest editorial, “Shopping Spree 101: How Refunds of Federal Loan Overpayments Leave Student Borrowers with Your Money to Burn.”  6:25pm- Zeoli is preempted for sports!

In this episode, we both covered cases from 48 Hours. Did we plan for this to be a themed episode? Yes. Yes we did. We are professionals. Brandi starts us off, as she often does, with a story about a staircase. (No, not that staircase.) When Lana Clayton flagged down a passing motorcyclist, she said that her husband, Steve Clayton, had fallen down the stairs. She feared he was dead. When emergency crews arrived on the scene, they initially thought that Steve had died from a heart attack. But Lana's behavior indicated otherwise. Then Kristin tells us about Nikki Kuhnhausen. From a very early age, Nikki embraced her gender identity. As a pre-teen, Nikki boldly opted to be exactly who she was — a confident trans girl who aspired to become a makeup artist. But her dreams were cut short when she met a transphobic man named David Bogdanov. And now for a note about our process. For each episode, Kristin reads a bunch of articles, then spits them back out in her very limited vocabulary. Brandi copies and pastes from the best sources on the web. And sometimes Wikipedia. (No shade, Wikipedia. We love you.) We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the real experts who covered these cases. In this episode, Kristin pulled from: An episode of 48 hours, titled “The Life and Death of Nikki Kuhnhausen” The podcast, “Should be alive” In this episode, Brandi pulled from: “The Eye Drop Homicide” episode 48 Hours “Everyone's Favorite Uncle” episode American Monster “S.C. nurse who fatally poisoned husband with eye drops: "I just wanted him to suffer”” by Peter Van Sant, CBS News “Nurse Gets 25 Years For Fatally Poisoning Her Husband With Eye Drops” by Jill Sederstrom, Oxygen “Officials said he died in a fall. Dee Dee Warwick - You’re No Good (1963)  The original version that, to my ears, cuts the Ronstadt version in half.  Clint Ballard also wrote "The Game of Love" for Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders. Look at that slugabed 2nd to the right. That's Eric Stewart of 10cc. Comb your hair, hippie.  Doc Severinsen - Barbarella (1968) The theme to the soft-core romp featuring Jane Fonda. Check out the party scene for a frugging Spiro Agnew. Doc Severinsen was the comic foil and bandleader for Johnny Carson. With the funny suit jackets, etc.  Doris (with Plums) - You Made a Fool of Me (1968) While this single is not from this album, it IS a bonus track if you can find this. I love her stuff. In fact, I confess to you right now that my song, "Epiphany", steals the first three chords of the verse. Those nutty Swedes. First, we steal ABBA. Then we steal this.  Gary Crosby - I'm Gonna Call My Baby (1967) Son of the guy that sang "Hey Jude". James Iron Head Baker & Group - Black Betty (1933) A rendition of the slave song. Later, a hit for Ram Jam, who's singer was previously in The Lemon Pipers, who had a hit with "Green Tambourine."  Johnny Buckett and his Cumberland River Boys - Hippie in a Blunder (1967-8) The anti-hippie sentiment of the late '60s was silly, tone-deaf (Bob Seger and Jan and Dean recorded anti-peacenik songs), and ultimately unnecessary since the peace movement itself would be bought, sold, repackaged, and neutered entirely just a couple of years later.  Roxy Music - Manifesto (1979) I can't listen to Brian Ferry's vibrato for a very long time, but this song seems to be a good fit. Like a salesman.  Redbone - Fais Do (1972) My confession. She will never see this post, but I used to dream about singing "Julie, Do Ya Love Me" to Julie Pawlowski (of Emporium Avenue) all the time. I still would. My god, I owned this on 8-track, a 2 tape set. I don't remember the TV commercial but there had to be one. "Magic Carpet Ride", "Fais Do", "Family Affair", so many songs. One after the other. Do you ever hear a song and snap into a place and time that hasn't entered your mind in decades? I got on the bus a few stops before her and would always sit in the middle of the two-space seat so that no one would take her spot. I think it worked once.  Gladys Knight and the Pips - Come Together (1975) The Harvey Averne Dozen - The Word (1967) This is one of my favorite Beatle covers. Simple and funky.  Sonny and Cher - It’s Gonna Rain (1965) No one talks about this b-side, the best thing I think Sonny or Cher ever did. His voice actually compliments the lyrics. There's a version where two different (and I mean different) lead vocal takes are played simultaneously. I don't think Sonny was that subversive, to be honest. Intentionally.  Steve Clayton - (Girls Are Imitating) Twiggy (1967) Discogs: Vocalist and songwriter with a long and varied career. Released numerous singles in the late 1950s and early 1960s in various musical styles but never achieved a hit. I like Steve Clayton a real lot. This is very similar music to "Music To Watch Girls By" which was a hit at the time. He is like Mel Tormé true, but I can hear another music industry schlepper, Tony Bruno.  If you are a vinyl junkie-type person and you marinate in the smoky studios of the '70s in your mind occasionally, do me a favor: Find a copy of his 1978 album Steve Not David. Does he mean David Clayton Thomas? I mean, by that time, no one cared about either one.  The Beach Boys - Belles of Paris (1978) Horribly uncomfortable Mike Love emoting of some pretty awful lyrics, even by his standards.   Bobby Byrd - I Know You Got Soul (1971) Bobby Lee Trammell - New Dance in France (1964) ANOTHER music orphan. He tried to be Jerry Lee Lewis, and he came THAT close, but the fates dictated otherwise. God, this episode of my show is sadder than usual. Listen for the fake audience and the attempt to glom onto Beatlemania. Unlike Tony Bruno and Steve Clayton, Trammell DOES have a Wikipedia page.  Boffalongo - Dancing In The Moonlight (1970) The original version. The version that hit big was actually the third version.  Adam West - Miranda (1966)  The Free Design - Friends (Thank You All) (1971) Alex Harvey was the original punk. His singing career began in fucking 1958. It would be 17 YEARS before he sniffed the Top 40 in the UK, and people in the USA have never heard of him mostly. But those of us who have heard of SAHB are a universally smitten lot. This was a fantastic group that never took itself too seriously. This is a common thread in great bands. They recorded until 1978, but unlike other groups of the time, their last album, Rock Drill, was just as good as the ones they recorded at their peak of popularity. I present my favorite SAHB tracks. But I like many more.  Sensational Alex Harvey Band - Hot City Symphony (1974)  Sensational Alex Harvey Band - Give My Compliments To The Chef (1975) Sensational Alex Harvey Band - Shake That Thing (1975) Sensational Alex Harvey Band - The Dolphins (1979) Johnny Mathis - Love Is All (Theme from “Midnight Cowboy”) (1970) Lorne Greene - Bonanza! (1964) Andy Williams - Music To Watch Girls By (1967) ??? - ??? Rodd Keith - Let's Go Savage You And I (?) A song-poem.  Leonard Nimoy - I Walk The Line (1970) Starland Vocal Band - Liberated Woman (1977) I mentioned this song on the Setlusting Bruce podcast. I called this my favorite (or was it least favorite) SVB song, because of my love for the chauvinistic sentiment masked as chivalry.  Nino Tempo and April Stevens - Love Story (1972) #5 in the Netherlands! From Buffalo, NY!!! Eric Burdon & The Animals - Mama Told Me Not To Come (1967) Neil Sedaka - Dimbo Man (1972)

Steve chats with Tony Rouse about when they were both youngsters and used to crawl under the seating of the main stand and treat it like a den when the football on the pitch was not that interesting.  He talks about players from the 80's a period he remembers well; speaking about many local players and managers; the likes of Jerry Alan, Neil Davey, Andy Leech, Nick Denly and club stalwarts Peter Merit and Trevor Gowan amongst others. His involvement today with Whitstable through his twitter account @The Gas Works End' which is all about the club. Admits (apart from his family) he has three loves; Whitstable Town, Southampton and Clyde in Scotland. Steve tells Belmont Banter the story of going out for a meal with Clyde manager Barry Ferguson and others from the club after a match. Sitting spellbound as Ferguson cleared a space on the table and using salt and pepper pots so that he could show everyone how they lost the match. How he has amassed over 30 Clyde team shirts since he started following the them, albeit mostly from afar. He looks back to October when he feared for Southampton after they lost 9-0 and says even though they then lost the next two games they have the right manager at the club. Ended by saying that Joe has passed Whitstable Town onto a safe pair of hands in Steve Clayton and that ex player Lloyd Blackman is the right manager at the right time for Whitstable Town.

“The heart of all great stories is people.” — Steve Clayton Steve Clayton grew up in Liverpool, England and fell in love with stories early on while observing people. He recalls being a child and watching his parents interact with gregarious friends and strangers, and Steve always wondered, what makes that person attract such attention?” Steve took a “weaving path” through his career before landing in this current role as Chief Storyteller at Microsoft. One of his first jobs was working in IT for a pharmaceutical company, where he quickly realized he was not a great computer programmer and pivoted. Steve has since served on technical teams for Microsoft in various roles and now he works on constructing the storytelling team, where he manages 30 people focused on telling the company’s story both internally and externally. As a team-builder, Steve has learned that it's important to hire people who are good at the things you are not and that the No. 1 quality he looks for in a potential team member is curiosity. “I want people who are naturally curious about the world. They will go and explore and try to understand why. I think that this sense of curiosity is the most important skill.” In this episode, Chad and Steve sit down to discuss Steve’s winding career from technical roles to storytelling, what it takes to be a great storyteller, and the cool new projects he is working on at Microsoft. As Steve always says... “the best stories always start and end in a pub.” Cheers! — Mission Daily and all of our podcasts are created with love by our team at Mission.org. This episode makes us all feel a little ADD with the hilarious antics of BJ Jezbera meeting the sarcastic and dirty mind of Tyler Johnson. First off, a rendition of the King of The Hill intro and even a throwback that makes Big Jon remember his version of it... BJ Jezbera is represented by artist friendly San Diego independent record label Mannequin Vanity Records and sponsored by Steve Clayton picks (They make our exclusive Dusty Futon picks). And…he brought us SWAG featuring almost all of his song. He’s got three albums out! We chat a lot about music and the music industry, including Radio in San Diego…and someone notices his "Cassette Tattoo," with a special title. He drew it himself too! This guy is talented. So talented, in fact, that Tyler feels threatened a bit…his girl is in the room. Listen to find out more… We get to hear a live version of one of his songs that’s also a collaboration…sort of. We play three full songs that are fully produced. BJ Jezbera performs a lot at the Tipsy Crow, and you can find him anywhere on social media. 10:41 - "Pump The Brakes" 25:07 - "Red Cups" 44:58 - "I Go Down" - LIVE 55:30 - "Matter of Time" The Dusty Futon, LLC is focused on revolutionizing the music industry…one artist at a time! Steve Clayton was a 7th grade teacher with a love for DJing; a vocation he used to earn some extra cash.    Self-taught, and relying primarily on grit and determination, Steve took his tiny DJing side business, Soundskilz, and built it into an industry-leading major event production and talent booking company, landing festival headliners including Wu Tang Clan and Ice Cube.   One event alone, the annual Chalice Festival held outside of Los Angles, Steve grew from 8,000 attendees to almost 40,000 in just four years.   No long spinning records, Steve, a self-made man, is now teaching and coaching other would-be entrepreneurs of all types how to develop their own entrepreneurial hits, and this week, he shares some of his favorite business tunes with host and reputation coach Dean Rotbart.   Photo: Steve Clayton, Soundskilz Posted: April 2, 2018 Monday Morning Run Time: 35:25

I first learned about Aaron Foley when I came across a CNN story on his role as the official Chief Storyteller for Detroit. I love the art of storytelling and I’m originally from Detroit so this profile on CNN resonated with me. I added Aaron to my list of targeted interviews and began my research. It didn’t take long for me to realize Aaron is a kindred spirit. We both have a complicated relationship with our hometown, we are both a bit of a smart ass (take a look at his book How to Live in Detroit Without Being a Jackass), we both believe Faygo Red Pop is easily the best flavor they have, and we both believe it is important to balance a city’s regeneration while respecting and maintaining its history and culture. The role of a Chief Storyteller (CSO) isn’t a new concept. Microsoft’s Steve Clayton has held this role since 2010 and IBM’s Louis Richardson is always fascinating to listen to. Aaron is simply the first and only Chief Storyteller I’m aware of for a major city and appointed by a government official (Detroit’s Mayor Duggan). This is a move I applaud and one that I wish more cities adopt going forward. This is modernizing (or digitizing) the age old practice of telling a community’s oral history. Ages ago this happened over a fire or in a tribe’s communal space. The desire to listen to stories is an innate human characteristic, one we can’t afford to lose as we become more and more dependent upon technology in our everyday lives. This is both Aaron’s and Detroit’s story. Special Guest: Aaron Foley.

Steve Clayton has guts. He held a top position at Labcorp, where you've likely gone if you needed blood work done. Hundreds and hundreds of people reported to him, and he earned a fortune. But one day he decided: I hate everything about this job, and I refuse to do it one moment longer. So he left.   Eventually, Steve went into eCommerce, and began building 7-figure online stores that he can run from wherever he is in the world. He's one of the world's foremost experts on eCommerce, and in particular how the little guy can create an online store as an additional income stream.

Interesting things I saw this week Following on from the news that LinkedIn are now in forcing the 30,000 connections limit it has now been announced that all connection above the limit will be converted to followers This interesting thing is that for the first time LinkedIn have admitted that large networks cause them problems. Microsoft takeover. I was at a TEDx Event over the weekend and one of the speakers was Steve Clayton  from Microsoft. It was interesting to hear him say that Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella is much more collaborative than his predecessors. Perhaps this could be a positive sign for LinkedIn? LinkedIn published posts and Pulse. It seems that the new format for published posts has now been rolled out to everyone with many people contacting me to ask about the new format. The Pulse page no longer shows under the Interests menu so you have to go to your home page feed and change is the order to recent Alternatively you could do what I did which is to create a bookmark for the Pulse page. If you want to find the Pulse channels you have to scroll down this page until you find some recommendations to personalise your news. Click on "Discover more to follow" and you will find the channels. It's been a very difficult week for those of us based in the UK following the ‘Brexit’ vote. I have never seen this country so divided and this has inevitably spilled onto LinkedIn. Whilst you may have strong views on the subject I would recommend avoid discussing such an emotive topic as this on LinkedIn.  At least for now and, perhaps in time it will become and easier subjects to discuss.
