In this episode of Beer & Money, Ryan Burklo discusses two common misunderstandings about dividends. He explains what dividends are, how they affect stock prices, and the tax implications associated with them. The episode aims to educate listeners on the nuances of dividends, emphasizing the importance of understanding their impact on investments and taxes. Check out our website: beerandmoney.net For a quick assessment of your current financial life go to: https://www.livingbalancesheet.com/lbsVision/lite/RyanBurklo Takeaways Dividends are payments made by companies to shareholders from profits. When dividends are paid, stock prices typically decrease by the dividend amount. Dividends are taxed as ordinary income, which can be higher than capital gains tax. Long-term capital gains tax rates can be significantly lower than ordinary income tax rates. Understanding the tax implications of dividends is crucial for effective financial planning. Investors should consider both dividends and stock price appreciation in their strategies. Consulting with a CPA can help clarify individual tax situations regarding dividends. The perception of dividends can be overly positive or negative; understanding is key. Financial education is essential for making informed investment decisions. Controlling finances and understanding investments leads to better financial outcomes. The options market is pricing a 10% or greater move in either direction for Nvidia's (NVDA) earnings. Greg Halter says the earnings are "catching up to the stock price" when it comes to valuation. As for DeepSeek, Greg says it's still "full steam ahead" for chip demand as companies like GE Vernova (GEV) ink new A.I. data center deals. Spencer Hakimian urges investors to keep the bear thesis in mind. He believes "there could be trouble" for Nvidia and the tech center if there's any slump in demand.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-network/id1460719185Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-Network/dp/B07KRD76C7Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/191928615bd8d47686f94682aefaa007/watchWatch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplus-exploreWatch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-network/Follow us on X – / schwabnetwork Follow us on Facebook – / schwabnetwork Follow us on LinkedIn - / schwab-network About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about

Brad McMillan, chief investment officer for Commonwealth Financial Network, says that investors are nervous and have plenty of worries, but that there is a disconnect between those negative thoughts and what's actually going wrong because conditions continue to look good and be mostly unaffected by the worst things investors are scared of. That's a big reason why McMillan is optimistic now, noting as well that "The worse the rest of the world looks, the better we look because there's nowhere else to be;" while he expects heightened volatility, he also expects stocks to deliver low double-digit gains again this year. David Trainer, founder and president at New Constructs, puts the entire utility sector in the Danger Zone, noting that the vast majority of companies in the sector are unattractive or worse. Ted Rossman discusses a Bankrate.com study showing that nearly one in four rewards cardholders left free money on the table last year. Plus Jon Wolfenbarger, founder and chief executive officer at BullAndBearProfits.com, brings his stock and ETF strategies to the Market Call.

In this special Canada Day episode of The Canadian Investor Podcast, we dive into the dangers of speaking in absolutes when it comes to investing. From misconceptions about invincible companies like Visa, Mastercard, and Nvidia, to the importance of framing investment theses around probabilities rather than certainties, we discuss how rigid thinking can blindside investors to potential risks. We also explore the concept of blackout periods for stock buybacks and their impact on market demand. With companies potentially repurchasing up to $1 trillion worth of shares by 2025, we consider how this practice might artificially boost stock prices and the potential repercussions if buybacks decrease. We finish this episode by discussing stocks that we added to our watchlist. Stocks pretty much ended the week where they began. Is the raging rally that has propelled stocks higher so far this year finally running out of gas? Quite possibly thinks portfolio manager Lance Roberts. Valuations remain at extremely stretched extremes for many assets including story stocks like Nvida, speculative assets like Bitcoin...and even gold. As he has been predicting for several weeks now, Lance cautions that a 5-10% correct in the markets is highly likely at this point. It's time to hedge your positions and/or take gains. We address all this, as well as inflation, jobs, recession odds, the plight of the middle class, the proposed legislation to limit TikTok, and the requirements & benefits of our constitutional republic form of governance.
