At 11 years old George was taken from his family, trained as a child soldier, and forced to hurt his own people. Edelin’s husband had an affair. She didn’t realize how deeply his betrayal affected every aspect of her life. Joseph was in prison for selling meth - which was the result of a lifetime of hurt. What do they have in common? They’ve all experienced deep wounds of the heart and mind that left them feeling overwhelmed – trauma. But there is hope. Rebecca Taguma, Executive Director of Trauma Healing Institute – a ministry equipping the church to help bring healing says the message of the Gospel, found in the living word of God, offers a transformational and lasting source of healing. Also, you’re not too much for God. I don’t know why it’s so much easier for us to believe all of God’s promises for others than it is to believe them for ourselves. But I promise you, the circumstances that have you wondering if God can come through for you are not too much for Him. Lastly, Shawna admits to struggling to identify what she’s feeling and feeling like she has to figure it out before bringing it to God. A story from the Bible shows us that Jesus can help us untangle our emotions.Donate to Moody Radio: http://moodyradio.org/donateto/morningshow/wgnbSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Have you ever stopped to consider what true wealth really means? In our society, we often equate wealth solely with financial success, but there's so much more to being truly rich. True wealth encompasses our relationships with family and loved ones, our health (both physical and mental), our community connections, our spiritual foundation, and how we use our precious time. When we focus exclusively on financial gain, we risk missing life's most meaningful moments—those irreplaceable experiences with our children, partners, and even ourselves. We operate as if tomorrow is guaranteed, grinding away at jobs that drain us while postponing joy and connection. But what if we approached wealth holistically, understanding that our purpose can align with prosperity without sacrificing what matters most?Join Rev. Jocelyn Jones and two-time cancer survivor Gustavo Pineiro in this powerful episode of Faith on the Journey. After enduring the battle of cancer twice in six months, Gustavo experienced a spiritual awakening that reshaped his view of success. His journey to beat cancer required deep mental and spiritual strength, and through the fight cancer demanded, he discovered his true purpose. Phil Monroe knows trauma. He's been a psychologist for decades, he leads a therapy practice with Diane Langberg (another prominent leader in the trauma space), and he writes curriculum for the Trauma Healing Institute, an arm of the American Bible Society. But because of his faith and his relationship with Christ, Phil also knows trauma healing. He knows it takes time and he willingly recognizes that much of his work in helping others heal is maintaining a level of hope his clients can't yet realize. In this episode, Phil speaks candidly about lament, church hurt, and trauma's role as both a block to God and a door to God. He also shares the one question church leaders can consider if their church experiences scandal. This episode is too good to miss. Keep a pen and notebook handy because you're going to want to take notes!Phil's closing remarks: "Things are going to be made right." If you're on a healing journey, may you take those words with you.For more about Phil Monroe. For more about Langberg Monroe & Associates. For more about the Trauma Healing Institute.

Growing up Jocelyn learned to live behind a mask of perfection and strength. As a young adult she suffered sexual trauma, but instead of seeking help, she continued to wear the mask. While still in college Jocelyn had an encounter with God that "wrecked" her, in a good way. Although it was highly impactful, things didn't really turn around until she realized something. She had to "break the power of the mask" and deal with her wounds. Now she helps others find trauma healing. Bio: Jocelyn J. Jones is an author, entrepreneur, and speaker. FrontStage BackStage with Jason Daye - Healthy Leadership for Life and Ministry
How might trauma in our own lives impact the way we serve in ministry? In this week's conversation on FrontStage BackStage, host Jason Daye is joined by the Reverend Dr. Nicole Martin, who was recently appointed as the Chief Impact Officer at Christianity Today. Previously, Nicole served as the Senior Vice President of Ministry Impact at the American Bible Society, where she also provided leadership to the Trauma Healing Institute. Nicole has written several books, and currently serves on the board of the National Association of Evangelicals. Together, Nicole and I explore some of the potential dangers and the positive benefits when it comes to examining trauma in our own lives. And we also look at how we can help make our lives, our homes, and our churches, places of healing.Dig deeper into this conversation: Find the free Weekly Toolkit, including the Ministry Leaders Growth Guide, all resource links, and more at http://PastorServe.org/networkSome key takeaways from this conversation:Nicole Martin on the need for pastors to address their own trauma: "Pastors have to tend to our own wounds, because it is out of our woundedness that we can connect to the wounds of others."Nicole Martin on ministry leaders reluctance to address their own wounds: "Leaders tend to believe that God will do more for others than he will do for us…. Believe that God wants to heal you as much as he wants to heal others."Nicole Martin on the value of safe spaces and relationships for ministry leaders: "Every pastor has to ask himself or herself, who is my community, who's in my community, that might speak God's Word over me and be the place of healing? Where are my safe people?"-------Looking to dig more deeply into this topic and conversation? FrontStage BackStage is much more than another church leadership show, it is a complete resource to help you and your ministry leaders grow. We're jumping into the Outspoken Bible stream for this Bible 2020 theme in order to tell you about a new series of interviews linked with Hope in Suffering. ------ Welcome to Hope / Suffering – a new series of interviews where we ask the question – where do you find hope in times of suffering? We've been talking to people from all over the world who have had very different life experiences, but who have all had to deal in one way or another with suffering in their lives. And while the ways of suffering have been different, the place they look for hope is the same – they look to the Bible. On this episode we talk to Kellye Stelling. Kellye is Master Facilitator with Trauma Healing Institute. Alasdair and Fiona speak to Kellye about THI, the process of confronting trauma through Biblical based counselling, and her own personal trauma that led her to wanting to know what the Bible truly says to someone about hope when they experience suffering. You can find out more about the resources the Trauma Healing Institute have produced for the church during the coronavirus pandemic at https://scottish.bible/#embrace For more on the theme of hope in suffering, go to https://www.scottish.bible/hopeinsuffering

It's everywhere, and it can be crippling. But people can be freed from the grip of trauma. --- “Trauma is an overwhelming need which people really don't see. It's not a physical wound that people would identify and want to help you with, it's a wound that you have on the inside because of something you have gone through.” Elizabeth Muriuki is General-Secretary of the Bible Society in Kenya, and she has experience of trauma healing from both sides. Her organisation uses a program developed by the Trauma Healing Institute to help people suffering from trauma – and she went through the program herself after losing her daughter. Does it work? Elizabeth gives an enthusiastic yes in response to that question. It takes time, she says, but it works. In this episode, we talk to people working on the front lines of one of the world's greatest areas of need: the trauma that millions upon millions suffer from globally. It's easy to avoid the pain of others, and hard to lean into it. But the Trauma Healing Institute, established by the American Bible Society, trains people in how to sit with those who've experienced traumatic events, and how to help them move forward. They work in conflict zones around the world, with refugees in the Middle East, with people who've experienced domestic violence in South America or gang violence in Central America, in the US prison system. Trauma happens everywhere, explains Andrew Hood, who manages the Trauma Healing Institute. “One of the things that has been so astounding to me as I've worked in this program is that I've seen Syrian refugees transformed by this, and I've seen suburban Philadelphia natives transformed by this. The point is, all humans hurt; all of us grieve. And it's rare for us, often, to have an opportunity to process that in a community setting.” It's not a simple process, and it's tough work to be involved in. But both Andrew and Elizabeth insist that there's plenty of hope alongside the pain. “Your trauma will always be with you. The point is that it's not the end of your story – we believe it's a beginning of your story. You carry it with you, in a way, throughout the rest of your life, but hopefully it can be redeemed into something, if not beautiful, at least something that is a springboard for hope.” --- SUBSCRIBE to ‘Life & Faith' on Apple Podcasts: http://bit.ly/cpxpodcast FIND US on Facebook: www.facebook.com/publicchristianity FOLLOW US on Twitter: www.twitter.com/cpx_tweet
In this edition of Fresh Hope for Mental Health, Pastor Brad interviews Chaplain Joy Stevens. Joy is a Master Facilitator for the Trauma Healing Institute of the American Bible Society. Joy and Brad discuss what trauma is and the trauma healing classes that the Trauma Healing institute is sponsoring in both churches and jails. They also talk about the healing and hope that is coming from the classes and what is necessary in order for trauma, which is a wound of the heart, to heal. Please know, if you have experienced hope in your life, what happened to you matters. There is hope and healing. Joy's calling is to introduce the Trauma Healing Classes within hundreds of jails and prisons that the Good News and Jail Ministry is connected with through out the United States. Why? Because most the vast majority of people who are incarcerated have had trauma; trauma that wounded them very deeply and they have ended up acting out in their lives, due to the trauma. The trauma must be healed in order for behaviors can change. Joy Stevens has been a jail chaplain with Good News Jail & Prison Ministry since 2011 working in corrections since 1996 where she started her career on death row in Lincoln She became Trauma Healing Coordinator with her ministry in March of 2017 after partnering with American Bible Society and will be training chaplains and volunteers in jails and prisons around the nation. Joy will be visiting prisons in Kenya and Rwanda, Africa in July to look for the feasibility of introducing Healing Wounds of Trauma into their prisons. She is a Master Facilitator with the Trauma Healing Institute. In this edition of Fresh Hope you'll hear about the wonderful things that the Lord is doing through these trauma healing classes.
