Vigils have been held since the weekend for a U.S. soldier who died after setting himself on fire in front of the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C., in an act of apparent protest over the war in Gaza. Washington's Metropolitan Police Department identified the deceased as Aaron Bushnell, of San Antonio, Texas, a 25-year-old active duty member of the U.S. Air Force. The New York Times reported the incident on Sunday was broadcast live over the internet. "I will no longer be complicit in genocide," Bushnell apparently said before dousing himself in a clear liquid and setting himself on fire, screaming, "Free Palestine," according to the Times. In production, I usual run through an assortment of hand picked and sometimes random instrumentals. For this episode, we run one instrumental on repeat. The artist is Richie Rich. The song is "Do G's Get To Go To Heaven", a dedication to Tupac Amaru Shakur from his Seasoned Veteran album. I found it fitting. The episode ends with the fully produced song in it's entirety.
Cathy Scott's biography, in this 3rd edition, remains the seminal account of iconic rapper Tupac Shakur's life and legacy following his still-unsolved murder in Las Vegas. It's been almost 20 years since poet, revolutionary, convict, and movie star, Tupac Amaru Shakur (a.k.a 2Pac, Makaveli, or simply 'pac), was gunned down at age 25 while he sat in traffic with Suge Knight near the Las Vegas Strip following a Mike Tyson fight at MGM Grand. In the new updated and expanded third edition of this acclaimed biography, Las Vegas crime writer Cathy Scott has finally been able to include the previously unpublished chapter featuring the account of that last fateful night from "Big Frank," the rapper's now-deceased personal bodyguard. The raw no-holds-barred narrative, which includes exclusive photo evidence (including of Tupac's autopsy), is the definitive account of the unsolved murder of Tupac Shakur: the many possible motives, the failed investigation, the rap wars, the killing of Biggie Smalls, the Bloods-Crips connection, the Suge Knight and Death Row Records association, and the subsequent fate of numerous principals involved in the aftermath. It is also a sensitive, candid, and insightful account of the contradictory icon who remains not only one of the most influential rappers ever but, with more than 75 million records sold worldwide, he's also one of the best-selling music artists of all time. The music of Tupac Shakur is the legacy of his life. The Killing of Tupac Shakur is the legacy of his death. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/1198501/advertisement

Lesane Crooks was born to Afeni Shakur (née Alice Faye Williams), a member of the Black Panther Party, and she renamed him Tupac Amaru Shakur—after Peruvian revolutionary Túpac Amaru II—when he was a year old. He spent much of his childhood on the move with his family, which in 1986 settled in Baltimore, Maryland, where Shakur attended the elite Baltimore School for the Arts. He distinguished himself as a student, both creatively and academically, but his family relocated to Marin City, California, before he could graduate. There Shakur took to the streets, selling drugs and becoming involved in the gang culture that would one day provide material for his rap lyrics. In 1990 he joined Digital Underground, an Oakland-based rap group that had scored a Billboard Top 40 hit with the novelty single “The Humpty Dance.” Shakur performed on two Digital Underground albums in 1991, This Is an EP Release and Sons of the P, before his solo debut, 2Pacalypse Now, later that year. Twenty-six years ago today, Tupac Amaru Shakur died at University Medical Center here in Las Vegas. A few days before his death, he was shot at the intersection of Flamingo and Koval — you may have driven past the spontaneous, informal memorial at the site, a collection of fan tributes scrawled onto a telephone pole. There is no official memorial or plaque here, or anywhere in Las Vegas. Tupac didn't get the accolades he deserved during his lifetime, but today, he's remembered as one of the most influential hip-hop artists of all time — so where's our memorial? Host Vogue Robinson is joined by DJ Warren Peace, a local who was on the Death Row street team and was playing at Club 662 the night Tupac never arrived. He tells us stories from the 90s club scene, and lays out the big picture: How the Vegas powers that be viewed hip-hop in the 90s, and why he thinks we don't have a Tupac memorial. Where were you when Tupac was shot? Who else do you think deserves to be memorialized in Las Vegas? Let us know at 702-514-0719 or on Twitter @CityCastVegas. Looking for more Vegas news?

The great Tupac Amaru Shakur was once asked in a interview about his thoughts on the future sound of Hip Hop. It is no secret that the 80's and 90's are widely considered as the "golden eras" of Hip Hop: filled with top-tier MCs and the boom-bap sound that was at the forefront of Hip Hop. Today, that is not the case any more. This new era of hip hop has a completely new sound and has allowed many different types of artists into the game. EC and OH dive deep into 2Pac's response in predicting the future of Hip Hop, pulled from an old interview. Tune in! Hip Hop Leaf: MC LeafLike the pod? Released in November 12, 1991 Tupac Amaru Shakur introduces the world to his debut album 2Pacalyse Now. Tupac throughout this album provided social commentary on racism, police brutality, teen pregnancy and urban crime. In the aftermath of Rodney King a victim of police brutality by the Los Angeles Police Department. On this day of March 3, 1991 a few months before 2 Pac debut album was set for release. Rodney King was beaten by LAPD officers after incident of a high-speed chase during the encounter for his arrest while amateur cameraman George Holliday caught it all on videotape. Moreover the four Officer were indicted on charges of excessive use of force by a officer in addition to assault with a deadly weapon. After a three month trail by a majority white jury acquitted the four officers of all charges. This ignited the residents of Los Angeles, California areas inflaming racial tensions which lead to the violent 1992 riots. Fast forward to 2020 with the emergence of Donald Trump Presidency mixed xenophobia, bigotry and unorthodox style of governor fair or unfair. The narrative “Make America Great”again evokes fear to minority populous of Jim Crow times. Furthermore with recent deaths of Nipsey Hussle, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and Rayshard Brooks. Tupac first single off 2PACALYPSE Now embodies police brutality and black on black crime narrative. The titled song Trapped dissects urban allegory discribing the anxiety of a young black male in America. Thus obstacles paved by systemic racism accompanied with government oppression, along with self mental oppression brought forth by environment of urban decay. In conclusion this podcast narrates the anxiety, fear, pain and PTSD of the lyricisms of Tupac Shakur & Ray Luv world. Ayzues breakdown the lyrics and provides social commentary to link and provide examples to the lyrics. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Joadanus Olivas, My Ghetto Thesis On The Word Nigga. There's much controversy over the word "nigga." As a black youth myself, I'm more than familiar with this word. Those from black conscious groups argue that the work should be done away with completely not only because of its derogatory meaning but because this was the last word many of our ancestors heard before getting killed by lynching. So many have adopted this word and now it sounds normal even coming from the mouth of someone who was far from black. Rap music refuses to remove this word from its vocabulary. Some such- some such as Tupac Amaru Shakur even reversed the denigration by turning it into an acronym: Never Ignorant Getting Goals Accomplished.I've come to understand that there are many different variations of this word meaning-wise. Some emphasis on the word and you automatically know it's a danger like, nigga? Others show that it's peace like, my nigga! Some shows ignorance, race in a good way. And everyone knows if you pronounce the -er on the end, then it's war. That's a no no, unless you're black yourself. So where did this word originate? According to my studies, I've come to the conclusion that it was derived from the Greek "necro" phonetically and "necro" means dead corpse. Others, especially that are black conscious, argue and say the word means ignorant or stupid. The Greek "necro," meaning death, inspires the Nation of Islam to explain that black man was in a death state and for Muhammad came to revive him similar to Hiram Abiff, the Masonic paradigm with the master script. This was something Farrakhan spoke of during the Million Man March in D.C.How could we remove a word from the vocabulary of everyday youth that has made this their culture? They're willing to die to be a real nigga where I'm from, and please don't mess with none of their niggas, but I still know older gorillas that will lash out if you call them this word, especially being of another race. Some races in prison will discipline their own kind if they use this word openly. But I see that everyone wants to relate to this word. Every inner-city youth wants you to know that they come from nothing, they suffered in the most wanted and most hated, but yet the most envy. Some white young kid right now, I imagine, said nigga for the first time, and it felt so good. They watch hip-hop and imagine what would it be like to be a nigga? This is so taboo. That's why it's exciting: something that has been forbidden their whole life. Now they get to experience it, wow. The rush it brings. Am I a nigga? No doubt. I've always wanted to be that nigga, a real nigga. It's so much power behind this. Why destroy it? It took almost 500 years of slavery to make this nigga right here."Nigga" is a battle scar they will never forget. My elders listen to this right now and are disappointed of me because of how much I've studied. But the species to survive is the one that adapts to change. So if Tupac Amaru Shakur said: I'm never ignorant; I'm getting goals accomplished. What about you, my nigga?

Hip Hop theology allows us to live in ambiguity while still seeking the face of God.I sat down with Daniel White Hodge to talk about his book Homeland Insecurity: A Hip Hop Missiology for the Post-Civil Rights Context (IVP 2018). We talk about his concept of the wild, learning theology and missiology from Hip Hop, the gospel messages of Tupac Amaru Shakur and Kendrick Lamar, the deep problems of short-term mission and white led urban ministry, missiology as civil disruption, why most conversations on non-violence are too simplistic, and his claim that, generally, “reconciliation has no meaning other than marketable charm.” It is a wide-ranging and passionate conversation and I am very excited to get to share it with you all.Daniel White Hodge, is professor of communication at North Park University in Chicago. He is the editor in chief of the Journal of Hip Hop Studies, and author of Heaven has a Ghetto, The Soul of Hip Hop, Hip Hop’s Hostile Gospel, and Homeland Insecurity: a hip hop missiology for the post-civil rights context. “And since a man can't make one/He has no right to tell a woman when and where to create one” - Tupac Amaru Shakur. With so much controversy surrounding anti-abortion laws, it’s time to read between the lines. Why are men making laws about a woman’s body? Does AmeriKKKa hate women? Do anti-abortion laws scold and discipline women more than men? Does it not take two to tango? How does AmeriKKKa’s abortion laws compare to over governing societies? And….. What does this really mean for women in America?

In case you're unfamiliar, Stretch and Pac met on the set of 'Juice'...Ed Lover was on set as well and the trio were inseparable at a moment in time. Rumors surfaced after Pac's incident in 1994 at Quad Studios in Manhattan that Stretch had something to do with it - and Ed swears on his life - it's not like that. The Killing of Tupac Shakur is the legacy of his death.Joe Sacco gives his first hand account of what is going on at DNC, uncensored. He describes what is not being reported on Fox, MSNBC or CNN. His first hand account confirms many of the reports were are seeing online. Such as manhandling and physical abuse of Sen Sanders, injuries to the Senators face, walk outs, harassment of Bernie delegates, use of seat fillers, a morning paper ballot vote. Mr Sacco's first hand eye witness accounts differ greatly from what we are seeing and hearing reported in main stream media. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/1198501/advertisement
