The Incense Trade Route was a network stretching over 2,000 kilometers and connecting southern Arabia to the Mediterranean. The first proven expedition to Egypt in search of frankincense dates back from 26th BCE and it is the domestication of the Arabian camel, or dromedary, that leads to the start of intensive trading in frankincense at the 8th century BCE. Oman appears on the map of the Incense Trade Route a few centuries later when the iconic trading port of Khor Rori was founded. In 2000, UNESCO and the Sultanate of Oman signed a convention placing the Land of Frankincense on the World Heritage List. The poetic name encompasses four extraordinary locations in the Dhofar Valley, a nature reserve in Southern Oman: the remains of the caravan oasis of Shisr (also known as Ubar); the affiliated ports of Khor Rori and Al-Baleed, outstanding examples of medieval fortified settlements, and Wadi Dawkah, home to the world's largest forest of Boswellia sacra trees.Today, Dominique Roques discusses with archaeologist Sterren Le Maguer-Gillon about how these places all bear witness to an era when the Omani region was a strategic trading crossroads on the Incense Trade Route.---- Podcasts by Nez, the audio channel for the olfactory culture - https://podcasts.bynez.com---Find all our podcasts on the usual platforms (Spotify, Deezer, Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts, Youtube) Hébergé par Acast. On Thursday October 12th the Hermetic Hour with host Poke Runyon and special guest Frater Soun of Ubar will discuss the mythical Labours of Hercules in relation to the Hermetic tradition. We will develop the background of the myth evolving from Babylon's Gilgamesh through Melqart of Phoenician Tyre into the ancient Greek hero myth so often seen in films and television. We will look at works by Manley Hall, Albert Pike, Robert Graves, Alice Bailey and especially the French author Charles Francois Dupuis (1742-1809) who seems to be the only scholar who has sequenced the twelve labours in proper Zodiacal order. The labours of Hercules are a chart of the souls journey through a cycle of lifetimes. They represent the great wheel of birth and death and are considered one of the Keys to the mysteries. So If you want to follow the big guy with the lion skin and the club tune in and we'll go adventuring.

We go back in time to the deserts of Arabia seeking answers about the legendary lost city in the southern Arabian sands, Ubar or Iram of the Pillars as it was called...but was it really discovered? or is it simply an ancient myth lost in time and buried deep in sands. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/fawzicave-podcast/message
Sir Ranulph Fiennes is a British explorer and expedition leader whose feats include hover-crafting over the Nile, travelling longitudinally around the globe and completing the Sahara’s Marathon Des Sables aged 71. Ran’s ventures in Oman began in the 60s when he served in the Sultan’s Armed Forces in the Dhofar Rebellion. Over subsequent decades, Ran returned to Oman frequently to search for “Atlantis of the Sands”, or the legendary lost frankincense city of Ubar, which he remarkably found in 1992. In recent years Oman has continued to play a significant role in his life – even infusing Omani date palms into Sir Ranulph Fiennes’ Great British Rum (https://www.sirranrum.com/)! Hear him tell stories of his time in the Army and the Empty Quarter, tips for aspiring adventurers, and his fond memories of the Sultans. _________Anglo Omani Society accounts:Instagram: angloomanisocietyLinkedin: The Anglo-Omani SocietyTwitter: @AngloOmaniSOCFacebook: The Anglo-Omani Society

Please be aware the stories, theories, re-enactments and language in this podcast are of an adult nature and can be disturbing, frightening and in some cases offensive. Listener Discretion is advised – there is very adult content ahead and you have been warned. Welcome heathens welcome to the world of the weird and unexplained. I’m your host, Nicole Delacroix and together, we will be investigating stories about the weird, wonderful, unexplained, eerie, scary and down-right unbelievable. There will be tales of ghosts, murder, supernatural beings and unexplained mysteries. So, sit back, grab your favorite drink, relax and prepare to be transported to today's dark Enigma.... And on today’s Dark enigma we’re looking into more bizarre stories. And, with that said, we will still be playing our drinking game and as you know, the drinking game is only for those of us that are at home and have nowhere else to go tonight. The choice of beverage is yours, so choose your poison accordingly… Alright, now for the game part how about every time I say sands that will be a single shot and every time I say atlantis, that will be a double shot. Alright, now that the business end is out of the way we can jump headfirst into today’s dark enigma… and the bizarre story of the mysterious Atlantis of the sands The shifting sands of the deserts of Arabia have long been steeped in myth, magic and, legend, and one of these are the tales of an ancient lost city variously called Ubar, Wabar and Iram of the Pillars, among others, said to be buried out there in the dunes forgotten and abandoned for thousands of years. Often spoken of by the Bedouin nomads of this vast land of heat and sand and even mentioned in the Quran and the classic book A Thousand and One Arabian Nights, the fabled city is said to lie somewhere out in the Rub’ al Khali desert, which spans much of the southern end of the peninsula, and was inhabited by a mysterious people called the Ad, ruled by a King Shaddad ibn ‘Ad. Said to have been established in around 3,000 BC, it was a place of grand beauty, with lofty buildings and sweeping, majestic pillars, towers and spires soaring up towards the sky, elegant and rich and beyond imagination from its position as a legendary trading post of spices and oils. It was supposedly a celebrated stop off point for traders, the land here once lush and green, in a region once called Arabia Felix, or “Fortunate Arabia,” its beauty well-known by all who passed, and the city’s legend grew as it was mentioned in fable and song. And then the city suddenly disappeared from history, its people and magnificence fading into the mists of time sometime between around 100-300AD. The legend of the lost city of Ubar says that this vanishing was due to punishment brought down from God upon its people after they failed to follow the ways of Allah and refused the advice of the prophet Hud, their city buried by a massive, thunderous sandstorm that swept in out of nowhere to erase them from existence forever. Although it is of course unknown if this is all literally true or not, the disappearance of the mythical lost city of Ubar has over the ages been speculated to have at least been based on a real place, and its mystery is such that of course with such an alluring mythology adventurers have long sought it out in the unforgiving landscape of the Arabian desert, some claiming some success and others rumored to have never returned at all.

Audiobook Kisah Kehidupan Nabi Hud AS (Eber) Versi Bahasa Inggris Berdasarkan Al-Quran Dan Al-Hadist. Prophet Hud (Eber) was a prophet of ancient Arabia mentioned in the Qur’an. The eleventh chapter of the Quran, Hud, is named after him, though the narrative of Hud comprises only a small portion of the chapter. Hud has sometimes been identified with Eber, an ancestor of the Israelites who is mentioned in the Old Testament. He is said to have been a subject of a mulk (Arabic: مُـلـك, kingdom) named after its founder, ʿĀd, a fourth-generation descendant of Prophet Noah (his father being Uz, the son of Aram, who was the son of Shem and a son of Noah. he other tribes claimed to be present at this time in Arabia, were the Thamud, Jurhum, Tasam, Jadis, Amim, Midian, Amalek Imlaq, Jasim, Qahtan, Banu Yaqtan and others. The Quran gives the location of Ad as being Al-Aḥqaf (Arabic: الأَحـقَـاف, "The Sandy Plains," or "the Wind-curved Sand-hills"). It is believed to have been in the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula, possibly in eastern Yemen and/or western Oman. In the 1980s, a settlement was discovered and thought to be Ubar, which is thought to be mentioned in the Qur'an as Iram dhat al-Imad (Arabic: إِرَم ذَات الـعِـمَـاد, Iram of the Pillars), and may have been the capital of Ad. An alternative translation of Iram dhat al-Imad is "Iram of the tentpoles" and it is uncertain whether the name identifies a city or a tribe. The people of Ad were extremely powerful and wealthy and they built countless buildings and monuments to show their power. However, the Ad people's wealth ultimately proved to be their failure, as they became arrogant and forsook God and began to adopt idols for worship, including three idols named Samd, Samud and Hara. Prophet Hud (Pbuh), even in childhood, remained consistent in prayer to God. It is related through exegesis that Hud's mother, a pious woman who had seen great visions at her son's birth, was the only person who encouraged Hud in his worship. Thus, the Lord raised up Hud as a prophet for the Ad people. When Hud started preaching and invited them to the worship of only the true God and when he told them to repent for their past sins and ask for mercy and forgiveness, the Ad people began to revile him and wickedly began to mock God's message. Hud's story epitomizes the prophetic cycle common to the early prophets mentioned in the Quran: the prophet is sent to his people to tell them to worship God only and tells them to acknowledge that it is God who is the provider of their blessings.

On Thursday March 12th, 2018 the Hermetic Hour with host Poke Runyon will chair a discussion on the recent Neocoris initiations at Avalon Lodge near Austin, Texas. We will be joined by Very Honored Frater Heracles, Master at Avalon and Hierophant at the initiation and other cast members and candidates. The Neocoris Grade in Crata Repoa is where we introduce the candidate to Solomon's magical art of evocation in the dark mirror. This ceremony is dramatic and challenging with tests and ordeals. It is based on Paul Christian's One degree condensation of Crata Repoa in his "History and Practice of Magic" (1870) and is a rite of passage in every sense of the word. Following the initiation, Soror Zandria and I presented a Charter Warrant for a full-fledged O.T.A. Lodge to V.H. Frater Soun and V.H. Soror Ningal of Ubar Hermitage, now Ubar Lodge, in Dallas, Texas. We followed this by a brief ceremony ordaining both Frater Soun and Soror Ningal as ministers in The Church of the Hermetic Sciences.
We will look at works by Manley Hall, Albert Pike, Robert Graves , Alice Bailey and especially the French author Charles Francois Dupuis (1742-1809) who seems to be the only scholar who has sequenced the twelve labours in proper Zodiacal order. The labours of Hercules are a chart of the souls journey through a cycle of lifetimes. They represent the great wheel of birth and death and are considered one of the Keys to the mysteries. So If you want to follow the big guy with the lion skin and the club tune in and we'll go adventuring.
