In this week's MBA Admissions podcast we began by discussing the Round 3 activity on LiveWire; interview invites and final decisions continue to roll out for this shortened application cycle; next week Emory / Goizueta, Berkeley / Haas and Duke / Fuqua are scheduled to release final decisions. Graham noted a new Clear Admit survey, where we are trying to understand the issues and concerns that international students may have, with regards to coming to the United States for an MBA. The survey link is here: https://bit.ly/mba25usa Graham highlighted Clear Admit's Application Overview May series of events that begin this week on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday's event includes Dartmouth / Tuck, Duke / Fuqua, INSEAD, London Business School and Michigan / Ross. The remainder of events in this series will be hosted on May 20 and 21. Signups are here: https://bit.ly/appoverview25 Sandwiched in the middle of this series is Clear Admit's MBA admissions fair in Boston, on May 14th. This event includes panel discussions, one of which is focused on Consulting hiring and is led by Bain. Twenty-four of the top 25 U.S.-based MBA programs are planning to attend, along with London Business School. Signups for this event are here: https://bit.ly/mbafair2025 Graham noted three articles recently published on Clear Admit. The first details the best laptops for MBAs as they plan to begin their program. The second article is part of Clear Admit's Real Numbers series and looks at the percentage of MBA students who go into Consulting after business school. The final article is a deep-dive research piece that examines placement statistics of the top US MBA programs, by geography. This helps us understand the regional nature of many of the leading MBA programs. Graham highlighted five Real Humans alumni spotlights, alums from Michigan / Ross working at PepsiCo, Emory / Goizueta working at Accenture, IESE working at BCG, Irvine / Merage working at Disney, and Columbia working at their own company, Small Bear. Finally, Graham discussed a recently published podcast episode about careers and impressive growth at SMU Cox with Shelly Heinrich. For this week, for the candidate profile review portion of the show, Alex selected two ApplyWire entries and one DecisionWire entry: This week's first MBA admissions candidate has a 695 GMAT score and a strong GPA. They are working in Australia and received their undergraduate degree from New Zealand. This week's second MBA candidate is from India and has 8 years of work experience. They are targeting a 330 on the GRE and have extensive experience building online communities. The final MBA candidate is deciding between Chicago / Booth and Berkeley / Haas. They are seeking a career in tech. This episode was recorded in Paris, France and Cornwall, England. It was produced and engineered by the fabulous Dennis Crowley in Philadelphia, USA. In this week's MBA Admissions podcast we began by discussing Round 2 activity on LiveWire; interview invites continue to roll out for Round 2 candidates; last week, Chicago / Booth, Columbia, and Michigan / Ross released interview invites, along with those programs which trickle out invitations across several weeks (e.g. Stanford, Yale, et al). This week, INSEAD is scheduled to release their Round 3 interview invites. Graham highlighted the second webinar for Deferred Admissions candidates, scheduled on Wednesday, which includes CMU / Tepper, Chicago / Booth, Columbia, Yale SOM and UVA / Darden. Signups are here: https://bit.ly/de0225 Graham then mentioned the upcoming webinar series for Masters in Management candidates, taking place later this month, with signups here: https://bit.ly/mim0225 Graham mentioned several MBA news stories: London Business School is launching a Smart EMBA, which takes a blended learning approach. Clear Admit published two podcast-related posts; the first focuses on podcasts from some of the top-16 MBA programs, and the second looks at UPenn / Wharton's Ripple Effect podcast. Finally, Clear Admit also published a story regarding Duke / Fuqua students doing a career trek in Silicon Valley. Graham then highlighted two admissions tips. The first focuses on the versatility of the MBA, the second looks at questions a candidate might want to prepare, ahead of their MBA interview. Clear Admit's Real Numbers series is now back; the first two articles in this series focus on class sizes across the top US MBA programs, and the yearly cost of attendance at American b-schools. Finally, we discussed one more MBA Class of 2024 career report from Berkeley / Haas. Their career statistics follow similar patterns we have identified with prior career reports that we have published this season. For this week, for the candidate profile review portion of the show, Alex selected two ApplyWire entries and one DecisionWire entry: This week's first MBA admissions candidate is applying through the deferred admissions process, so is still an undergraduate student. They have a 3.9 GPA and a 730 GMAT score. This week's second MBA candidate is planning to apply either next season, or the season after. They have a 3.2 GPA, with a positive upward trend. They have a 322 GRE, which we think they might want to retake. They are also still determining between post-MBA goals in finance or consulting. The final MBA candidate is deciding between Dartmouth / Tuck and Berkeley / Haas, and they are seeking a short-term goal in private equity. Graham then discussed the stars system we have for Clear Admit community members who post comments and like comments on the Clear Admit wires. We are now offering Amazon gift cards to the biggest contributors! Graham highlighted a recently published admissions tip focused on the seven hardest MBA interview questions. Graham also noted the publication of our Real Numbers series, which last week focused on MBA class sizes and the costs of US MBA programs. He then highlighted a Fridays from the Frontlines piece, which focused on the African American Union at Harvard Business School. For this week, for the candidate profile review portion of the show, Alex selected two ApplyWire entries and one DecisionWire entry. This week's first MBA admissions candidate was enlisted in the military and exited as a Captain before joining a government agency in the software engineering domain, they are applying next season. They have a strong GPA, as well as a very decent masters degree. We wonder if their 323 GRE score is their best score, or should they retake the test. This week's second MBA candidate is also applying next season, and has yet to take the GMAT. They appear to have a very interesting professional background, with a strong focus in the transportation sector in Indonesia. Their long term goal is to return to Indonesia and return to the transportation sector. The final MBA candidate for this week has several offers from top MBA programs, with many including significant scholarship offers. They are weighing whether Wharton is worth the risk, with no money, versus Haas, with a large scholarship. Their principle goal is VC in Los Angeles. Show Summary In this episode of Admissions Straight Talk, host Linda Abraham interviews Dean Robert Salomon, the inaugural Dean of Stern at NYU Abu Dhabi. They discuss NYU Stern's groundbreaking one-year MBA program in Abu Dhabi. The program is open to applicants from around the world, but it is particularly aimed at those interested in building a career in the Middle East. The program will offer the same core courses as NYU Stern's MBA program in New York, and students will have the opportunity to study in both Abu Dhabi and New York City. The program also includes an experiential component, with students working on live projects for local companies. Dean Salomon emphasizes the growing entrepreneurial ecosystem in Abu Dhabi and the opportunities for students to engage with start-ups and gain hands-on experience. He also discusses the importance of diversity in the student body and the availability of merit-based scholarships. The episode concludes with Dean Salomon discussing the reasons behind choosing Abu Dhabi as the location for the program and the opportunities it offers for students to be part of the region's transition to a knowledge-based economy. Show Notes Are you interested in doing business in the Middle East but want an MBA from a top US business school? And would you prefer a one-year program? Today's episode is all about NYU Stern's groundbreaking one-year MBA program in the UAE's Abu Dhabi. Welcome to the 548th episode of Admissions Straight Talk, Accepted's podcast.  Sometimes I'm asked, is the MBA worth it? And my answer is, it depends on your individual circumstances, but I've got good news. We've developed a tool, the MBA ROI calculator that will help you evaluate whether an MBA is worth it for you and your individual circumstances and by how much. And using the tool won't set you back even one cent. Use of the tool is free.  It gives me great pleasure to have for the first time on Admissions Straight Talk, Dean Robert Salomon. Dean Salomon earned his bachelor's from Michigan Ross and then moved to NYU Stern, which has been his home almost ever since. He earned his master's in PhD in strategy and international business there and has been a professor of management at Stern since 2005. Dean Salomon will lead the NYU program in Abu Dhabi and will actually be the inaugural Dean of Stern at NYU Abu Dhabi.  Dean Salomon, welcome to Admissions Straight Talk. [1:49] Thanks for having me. I'm so glad you can join me. As we were talking about before, it's morning for me, night for you. It's amazing that we can... I think you're 12 hours ahead of me, right? [1:53] 11 this time of year. Once you change your clocks, I think it'll be 12. So we're literally on other sides of the world and yet we can still have this delightful conversation. Let's start with an overview of NYU's Abu Dhabi MBA program. Can you please provide us with one? [2:07] Sure. So we are opening here a full-time MBA program. It's going to be a 12-month, accelerated MBA program that will run from January through December, and the first class will start in January of 2025. So you're really just getting going. You're not going to have a class this year, you're just getting going for the following year, really? [2:36] We'll start a year from January, although the website is now live, the application is available, it can be downloaded, people can start it, and we are accepting applications now. The first deadline comes up January 15th, but people can start applying now. It takes a while to put together a good application, so that makes a lot of sense. [3:00] Yeah. Is this program for people in the Middle East who want a US MBA or is it for people anywhere in the world who want to focus on business in the Middle East? What's the goal of the program? [3:06] So the program is for anybody in the world, and what we would like however, is that people who are interested in the region,

This week's episode of WireTaps kicks off with a discussion on the percentage of international students at the top US MBA programs. There is quite a difference in the numbers at Stanford and Columbia versus Wharton and Harvard; Alex and Graham speculated as to the reasons. Your hosts also noted the upcoming MBA admissions deadlines for Round 1, which begin at the end of August. Graham then highlighted an upcoming webinar (August 17) featuring alumni who appeared in our Real Humans series to discuss their career paths. You can sign up here: https://bit.ly/realhumanswebinar Graham also highlighted the upcoming Essay Workshop Series, which includes three events; September 14, September 21 and September 28. And of course, your hosts also chatted about Clear Admit+ https://www.clearadmit.com/clearadmit-plus-members/ As always, this episode features in-depth analysis of three candidate profiles: First up, Alex selects a female candidate with a super GMAT (750) and more modest GPA. She appears to have done well at work (two promotions) and is very active outside of work, including starting a non-profit. She's aiming high, as she should; Alex and Graham thought she might also consider Northwestern / Kellogg and possibly MIT / Sloan. This week's second candidate hails from Hungary, which will make them under-represented. Their GMAT is very good (730) but their GPA is (again) a little light. We wonder about the conversion, and what the class rank is. They've completed a masters degree, which is good, but they'll also need to address, in more detail, why the MBA at this stage. The work experience does look good, but Alex and Graham note a lack of information/insight on any additional non-work interests and activities. However, your hosts do think there are some good possibilities for a candidate from a country that is under-represented. The third candidate hails from Brazil with a super GMAT (a bit of a theme for this podcast) and four years of investment banking experience. They have applied to Columbia Early Decision and we think that the credentials they have provided look very positive. They are concerned with some possible negative interaction with a current student, and the implications of that... This episode was recorded in Paris, France and Cornwall, England. Grab a glass of eggnog and cozy up to this holiday edition of WireTaps! Alex and Graham tackle holiday deliberations on R1 results and task-lists for R2, while also taking time to closely examine the latest employment reports from Harvard Business School and the Tuck School of Business. Then, our hosts move into the WireTaps portion of the show with two ApplyWire candidates targeting R2 and one DecisionWire candidate making a tough call... First up in the batch is a military candidate who appears to have a very impressive set of experiences. While their GPA is decent, Alex and Graham wonder if the GRE (323) is going to be their weakest link, and whether it might make things a bit of an uphill battle at the very best programs. Our hosts also make some last minute recommendations regarding target programs. Next up, a candidate from China who has completed their masters degree, secured an outstanding GMAT score (770), worked several years in government, and transitioned to a serial novelist. Alex and Graham marvel at the list of highly compelling ingredients, but worry about this applicants ability to 'make the recipe'. Finally, from DecisionWire, our hosts look at a US-based candidate who largely targeted non-US MBA programs, and is now determining which is their best option for work in luxury goods in Europe in the short term and a return to the US in the longer-term. This episode was recorded in Cornwall, England and Paris, France. It was produced in West Philadelphia by the always cheery Dennis Crowley. H@H: Ep.37 – On this week’s edition of the Here@Haas podcast, Daniil Pushkin joins host Ray Guan to talk about his passion for data. Daniil shares his journey from Russia to USA in pursuit of a full-time MBA and a career in technology. Daniil also talks about his involvement as President of the Haas Data Science Club, including workshops and club events. Daniil also shares his summer internship experience at Intuit and how he used data science techniques in his interview. Finally, we wrap up with some elective recommendations, culture shocks he experienced, and his favorite defining principle. *Episode Quotes:* On why Daniil & his wife pursued a US MBA: "We were really considering several options because there are some good business schools in Europe, much closer to Russia, but eventually we wanted to get a two year degree because we heard from everybody that the MBA is one of the best times of people's lives." On his learnings from the 1st year: "I clearly understood during my first year how important it is to network with people and build warm connections." On the difference between consulting and product management: "In consulting you do some analysis for two weeks and then present it for one hour. As a product manager, you do analysis for two hours and then align it for two weeks with others." *Links & References:* Daniil Pushkin: Email | ( http://daniil.pushkin@berkeley.edu/ ) Linkedin ( https://www.linkedin.com/in/daniilpushkin/ ) Data Science Club ( https://haas.campusgroups.com/dsc/about/ ) Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/here-at-haas/donations

Case Interview Preparation & Management Consulting | Strategy | Critical Thinking

This is an important podcast. Many Indian MBA candidates, those without permits to remain in the US post their studies, follow a dangerous strategy for their internship interviews. This podcast offers a very simple but highly effective strategy to ensure candidates keep themselves in the running for consulting offers. Moreover, keeping residency in the US is a vital prerequisite to maintain a candidates “risk profile” and this podcast again offers some ideas.

Case Interview Preparation & Management Consulting | Strategy | Critical Thinking

In this podcast we extract the most important mistakes, best-practices and lessons learned from our clients who interviewed and are still interviewing through the January 2012 US MBA internships.

Case Interview Preparation & Management Consulting | Strategy | Critical Thinking

Many of our candidates are still interviewing, but we can, with a fair degree of accuracy, determine how they will do. We project a 60%-65% placement rate, which considering that internships slots are far fewer than full-time slots, is expected. In this podcast we segment our candidates and present some important lessons for those who want to pursue the full-time cycle in September 2012, as well as candidates in other countries and US undergrads.
