Taking time to stop and enjoy the little things in life seems like a romanticized idea that many people find just out of their grasp. Between work, home or school for some, life becomes a rushed mess of due dates, large projects, family events and money management that creeps into the already stretched minutes of free-time people seem to have for themselves. If you've needed a relaxing retreat, a new yoga studio in Idaho Falls is opening next week to provide that. “When we engage in these kinds of practices like self-care, and we take care of our body and we take care of our minds we actually increase our capacity and ability to do the things that we need to do,” said Nicole Packer, the founder of Yoga Wellness Connection in an interview with BYU-Idaho Radio. The studio employs different wellness activities including traditional yoga, and even more unique ones like sound bathing where you sit and allow different tones and sounds to relax your body and clear your mind. “Sound-bah is an experience where you sit while using pillows, props or blankets and just allow your body to rest and be as comfortable as possible … and a lot of people experience a clearing of thoughts and it can increase a sense of relaxation,” Packer said. The Yoga Wellness Connection also has a “CommUNITY 4” program that allows them to provide discounted or free memberships at the Yoga Wellness Connection to those who may have financial needs. Businesses, organizations and community members can also donate to support fellow local residents in attending the classes. Yoga Wellness Connection stated that 100% of the proceeds assist with membership costs. The grand opening ceremony is on Monday, June 20 at 451 River Pkwy, Idaho Falls ID 83402 in eagle Rock Station right across from the Falls and will feature free classes for the whole week from June 20 - 26. Driving all around town from class to class is not the only way to grow your wellness business. It's just one way. There are benefits to teaching classes. There are also cons. If you are going to teach classes online or in person it's best to understand your reasoning. Not going into it blindly thinking that's the way it should be done because it's what everyone else is doing. Take it from me. There was a time I was teaching more than 10 classes a week, while treating patients and teaching workshops and trainings on the weekends. I did it because that's what my mentors did. That's what I saw other people doing. But it was way too much. Now I teach when I want, what I want. It's possible for you too if you just evaluate how teaching fits into the big picture of your business. Because teaching is ONE facet of your business, NOT your whole business (even if you love it and do it primarily). Bethany Lee began yoga to gain flexibility and strength, but soon noticed additional benefits, including better focus, improved sleep and more energy. Wanting to share these benefits with others, she earned her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training Certification in Puerto Rico, studying under Power Yoga leader Renee Fussner. For fourteen years, she has brought passion and authenticity to her everyday practice. Her love of Yin Yoga, inspired her to take on additional training and certification (50 hours) in Mexico, studying Yin Yoga combined with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and meditation. A yogi and mediator for over 30 years, with over 15,000 hours of teaching experience, Lisa is a master yoga teacher who inspired many over the last 17 years of teaching on Long Island to become devoted practitioners and to train with her to become yoga teachers. Lisa co-founded two major Yoga/Wellness centers in Nassau County, first 2003 Om Sweet Om Yoga in Port Washington, and more recently, 2012 PRACTICE/Northwell in Roslyn, New York, where she currently is the director of yoga and teacher trainings.
