Send us a textWhat if the Joker is just a figment of Arthur's fractured mind? On "It's What We Do," we challenge assumptions with a deep dive into "Yonker 2," a film that has sparked mixed reactions and comparisons to "Morbius" and "Madam Web." With Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga leading under Todd Phillips' direction, we scrutinize the film's narrative choices, the DID plea, and Arthur's reluctant embrace of his Joker persona. The dynamic between Arthur and Harley is a fascinating puzzle, and we unravel how their shared delusion crumbles, impacting their relationship and leaving audiences in suspense.Switching gears, we channel our inner critics as we discuss the film's approach to the musical genre, questioning its commitment to musical madness. Does it deliver on the promise of a musical spectacle, or does it merely flirt with the genre? The Harley and Joker talk show sequence stands out as a highlight, and we examine the emotional power of its musical numbers. Our banter is laced with humor as we explore Harley's manipulative tendencies and her disinterest in Arthur's non-Joker identity, all while sharing personal anecdotes and musical tidbits that add a delightful twist to our critique. As we navigate through racing and entertainment, we celebrate Bob Odenkirk's upcoming action sequel and unravel the mystery of Scientology with a dash of humor. The anticipation builds with news of the Ayrton Senna Netflix miniseries and the thrilling Formula 1 season, with names like Max Verstappen and Lando Norris keeping us on the edge of our seats. We round off with exciting TV updates, including James Gunn's Green Lantern series casting, and our personal viewing lists. We all know what it feels like to have a headache, but each person can experience that intensity for dozens of different reasons. Globally, headache disorders affect approximately 40% of the population, which is about 3.1 billion people. Headaches are also among the three most common neurological conditions for most age groups starting at age 5. As such a ubiquitous issue, it's important for providers to understand, diagnose and treat headaches. What are the most common reasons for headaches in children? How should pediatricians know when a headache is more than surface-level discomfort? To learn about the latest in pediatric headaches, we are joined by two headache experts, Marcy Yonker, MD, and Angelina Koehler, NP. Dr. Yonker is the Director of the Headache Program at Children's Colorado and the Dale, Cindy and Kristin Francescon Endowed Chair for Headache Treatment with the University of Colorado Department of Pediatrics. He has noticed that people are willing to make changes in their lives. 00:09:41 - Looking Inward and Finding Core Values, Tim and Chris discuss how the pandemic has made people look inward and find their core values, rather than living superficial lives. They emphasize the importance of understanding and answering the question of "who am I?" and "what is my purpose?" to live intentionally. 00:12:28 - Illusions of Identity and Language, Chris talks about the two questions he asks his clients: "Who am I?" and "What is my purpose?" He believes these questions are illusions because most people answer with a label, job title, or role they play 00:14:36 - Relationship with Something Beyond Ourselves, Chris discusses chapter three of his book, which explores the idea of a relationship with something beyond ourselves. He notes that publicly held companies and private equity firms often prioritize the bottom line and stock performance, while family businesses often prioritize values like caring for employees and making a positive impact on the world. 00:25:59 - Impact of Work, Tim and Chris discuss their experiences working in Corporate America and how it can be more difficult to have a meaningful impact on clients and the world. They both emphasize that they prioritize making a positive impact with their work, and that this is often easier to do when working with privately held family businesses. 00:27:23 - Prioritizing Values, Chris shares an example of how he prioritized his employees during the COVID-19 pandemic by continuing paying them while he took no pay. 00:28:53 - The Complications of Family Dynamics in Business, Chris discusses the complexity of family and business relationships and how dysfunction in one can impact the other. He highlights the importance of addressing conflicts and challenging beliefs and narratives that may no longer serve the family business. 00:31:10 - The Importance of Loyalty in Family Businesses, Chris and Tim discuss the idea of loyalty in family businesses. They mention the importance of being able to live the lifestyle one wants, such as spending time with loved ones or traveling. Yonker believes that being intentional and investing in oneself can help overcome the pain associated with spending money or time. 00:48:28 - The Value of Coaching, Yonker believes that working with a coach or mentor is essential for personal growth and transformation. Coaches can help individuals develop self-awareness, address their blind spots, and navigate their path in life. However, it is important to work with an experienced and conscious coach who can avoid projecting their own worldview onto their clients. 00:51:18 - Time and Perception, Yonker discusses how time is a human construct, used for measurement and planning. He believes that emotions are contextualized by time and that being present in the moment is important for finding meaning and connection. Tim ends the episode by urging listeners to continue being true to themselves and fulfilling their potential. Key Lessons: Understanding the beliefs and narratives of a family business is crucial to working effectively with them. Having a mentor or coach can help individuals identify their blind spots and drive transformation. Success is relative and it's important to have perspective and understand that there is a bigger picture. The pandemic has forced people to slow down and reflect on their priorities and make changes in their personal and business lives. Creating space and intentionally blocking out time for things like self-care and family time is important for achievers who tend to over-schedule. Incorporating spirituality and exploring a relationship with something beyond oneself can help individuals find fulfillment and purpose in life. HIGHLIGHTSChris' 3M ExperienceImportance of StrategyBeing prepared for the upcoming changesChris' Methodology and the Hierarchy of FulfillmentThe Dilemma of Balancing Your Goals vs. EgoHandling transitions with familiesQUOTESJonathan: “Strategy is such a key part of business, and too many small and medium sized businesses don't really even understand what their strategy is, or how to differentiate themselves in the marketplace. And I think that when you take a strategy of innovation, and then you make it part of the alchemy of your company, it really brings it to life.”Chris: “These ideas of creating a centered life, and a life that's got a higher state of consciousness tied to it, there's an opportunity to transform within that. So that we can redefine who we believe we are in our life experience, it doesn't mean that we're going to become a different person. But in many cases, what it does mean is I'm going to navigate more for my truth instead of from an ego.”Chris: “I find the people that end up working with me. They want to transition but at the end of the transition, they want to have more peace. That's the common thread. They want peace.”Chris: “Individuals' interest goes first. Because otherwise, what do you end up with? I've worked with families where I came in, and then there's family members involved in the business and they don't want to be there.”To connect with Chris, check out the links below: LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/chrisyonkerWebsite: chrisyonker.comTwitter: ChrisYonkerIf you enjoyed today's episode, please subscribe, review and share with a friend who would benefit from the message.
