I used to think sales was a dirty word, especially when it came to selling myself and my services. I know I'm not alone in this, which is why I am excited about this episode with Aleasha Bahr who shares everything you need to know about sales.  We're all in sales - whether you're selling yourself to an employer in an audition or job interview or pitching your idea to a network or for financing or trying to get your boss or team to buy into your idea.  Aleasha is a woman in a male-dominated industry who is calling out the common lies in sales - primarily, that sales is a one-size-fits-all proposition and that you have to do things that feel “weird” or "yucky" and out of alignment to close the deal. Aleasha says embrace the Black Sheep Sales Method instead: Find your tribe and thrive (because if it's a fit, it's a fact) Ask yourself: what are better questions I could be asking? Put yourselves in your customer's shoes (empathy) Focus on what makes your customer's life better/easier Customize your pitch to motivate your customer Prioritize building relationships and you naturally sell yourself Try different approaches to see what works best for you Be mindful of reputation management Try this action step: I am going to innovate my approach to pitching myself by innovating my approach to ______ (fill in the blank). We as grieving people often feel as if we are being judged by others. If I laugh or smile, will people think I am 'over' Andy's death? Will they think I don't care or think about him anymore? If people see me sad and crying, will they think that I should be doing better? Will they judge me and think that I should be able to keep my emotions in check? However, as much as we fear judgment from other people often we are the ones who are our biggest critics. We feel guilty if we laugh and smile. We feel shame when the tears come and emotions get out of control. When today's guest, Aleasha, talks about her early grief journey after losing her son, Jake, to a rare neurodegenerative disease called Sialic Acid Storage Disease. She says that she assumed that others were judging her in her grief. She felt that they were uncomfortable around her so she shut down and pulled away. Aleasha shared with her therapist that she was disappointed that more people were not 'there for her' in her grief. Recently, Aleasha had the realization that others did try to walk alongside her, but she pushed them away. She felt like they weren't saying the right thing or doing the right thing, but it didn't matter what her friends said or did because it was never going to be enough. Aleasha wanted to have Jake back and obviously, no one could give her that. This epiphany has changed Aleasha's outlook completely. It gives us an amazing lesson as well. We need to give grace and not judge ourselves when emotions come. We can feel joy, sorrow, anger, guilt, relief, and a thousand other emotions at the same time. Feeling these emotions is a part of the grief journey and they do not indicate where we are on that journey. We also learn not to project our feelings of judgment onto others. We should not presume to know what others are thinking. Our family and friends love us and want to be there for us. Their first instinct is not to judge. We need to let them show their love and see our true emotions and not be scared of what others might think.

Today I'm joined by the FABULOUS Aleasha Bahr. We're talking about where the "ick factor" comes from and what most people get horribly wrong about selling (which inadvertently adds the "ick"). This one is like a whole high-level sales training packed into 40 minutes... listen now!Can't-Miss Moments:My "walk of shame": the thought process that led me to dropping flyers on local businesses at 5am (and what I learned from my MISERABLE failure)...SPOILER ALERT: you're ALREADY a natural salesperson. I was first attracted to Aleasha Bahr because of the name of her podcast, “Sales is Not a Dirty Word” and the audacious claim on her website that she teaches “Sales That Don't Suck”. Because so many self employed women struggle with selling, I just had to know more. Aleasha is a sales strategist that has developed her own unique approach called “The Matchmaker Sales Method,” based on the way women sell. Women, in general have a distinct advantage, because for most of us, curiosity and empathy come naturally. The Matchmaker method is all about fitting, not closing, and it's a way for even the introverts, rejection sensitive and sales avoidant among us can learn to sell in a way that does not feel gross or out of alignment with our values and personality. Highlights of this convo:1️⃣ Shift the Sales Paradigm: What customers truly crave is the feeling of being understood and heard. Replace pushy sales tactics with empathetic and genuine conversations to build trust.2️⃣ Matching, Not Convincing: The matchmaker sales method emphasizes finding the perfect fit between your offering and your customer's needs. This approach not only boosts your chances of success but also ensures a positive and authentic experience.3️⃣ Power of Self-Value: Many entrepreneurs, especially creative and empathic individuals, struggle with rejection and undervaluing their own unique talents. On this episode of Positioning to Profit, host Patty Dominguez interviews Aleasha Bahr, a natural salesperson, about effective sales strategies and determining client fit. Aleasha acknowledges the concerns and fears surrounding spending money and emphasizes the importance of addressing these concerns in an open conversation with prospects. They discuss framing the decision-making process in a way that empowers prospects to evaluate their options and understand their alternative plans. Aleasha believes in telling prospects when they are not a good fit for a product or service, as this builds trust, leads to return customers and referrals, and prevents time and energy drain. They compare the process of determining a fit to dating, emphasizing the need for specific questions and a deep diagnostic process. Aleasha also shares the importance of checking questions, form applications, and pre-framing conversations to filter out non-serious prospects and avoid wasted time. They discuss the importance of having a structure for sales conversations and focusing on how the solution solves the client's issue rather than giving advice. Aleasha also criticizes inauthentic marketing strategies and praises a hope-based approach. They believe in knowing the challenges but focusing on positive aspects and empathizing with negative experiences. The episode ends with Aleasha expressing excitement for the listener to have a positive experience with someone who supports them. Tune in to this episode of Positioning to Profit for valuable insights on sales strategies and client fit.

She strongly believes that sales is just like any other normal conversation. It doesn't have to be complicated. According to her, listening is a vital part of closing a sale. Most of the time, people just want to be heard. They do not need to know every little detail. Aleasha suggests a framework that will serve as your guide as you weave your pitches through the conversation. You don't have to have a script to follow word for word because there aren't any similar conversations. You have to make sure that you choose the right words that best suit you and the person you are talking to. She first established a marketing agency but later on realized that there was a need to focus more on the sales training process. Aleasha noticed that entrepreneurs are good at sales it's just that they don't realize it. As a sales strategist, she provides her clients with the words that they are most comfortable with. ALEASHA'S TIP: "Introverts are often failing at sales because they're trying to pretend they're an extrovert. They feel like they have to put on this weird suit or hat like we were talking about and act like somebody else. Introverts have amazing intuition and give yourself permission to just play up your strengths. You don't have to have a million hours of small talk if you don't like it. Don't force yourself to do it. The other person's going to feel weird too, because they can tell your heart's not in it. Just really being able to lean into your own strengths and obviously, the ideal is the blend of both. If extroverts can learn something from introverts' qualities, that would definitely make them a better salesperson."

Aleasha Bahr is a sales and marketing expert and teaches her clients how to sell in a way that’s authentic to them. Long gone are the days where you have to put clients in a chokehold and force them to buy. There’s a way better way you can sell that won’t make you feel grimy about it. In this episode, Aleasha shares how you can show up for your clients in a way that feels right to you and how you can empower your clients to make the best decision for them, which is to hire you! All of this and more on today’s show!   Key takeaways: You don’t have to be a bad person to be good at sales! Who is Aleasha and how did she get started? Do you think sales is a dirty word? Aleasha helps you break out of that mindset. You can learn how to sell in a way that feels good to you! You can sell people with hope as well as pain. Pain motivation is the old-school way of selling! Kathy has cried on sales calls because of “pain selling.” More people buy when they feel good, not when they feel bad. When you sell on hope, you bring joy into people’s lives. So many people feel awkward selling on a pain motivation. Don’t compare your behind-the-scenes life to someone else’s feature film. The most successful people have such hot messes behind the scenes. Most people want a solution. And you’re that person to give it to you. We feel gross when there’s a money transaction happening and you had to “sell” someone on it to get it. It doesn’t feel authentic. People don’t value things they don’t pay for. Don’t feel guilty! How can you sell in an authentic way? Improv classes are a great way to improve your sales skills! It helps you get out of your head. What is authoritative empathy all about? Empathy is the most undervalued tool in sales. Kathy has made mistakes in the past and she ended up feeling a lot of shame around that. Diffuse the shame a client might have around a business mistake they’ve made. It’s completely okay to make mistakes, and that’s why they’re coming to you, to help them get it right this time! Are you trying to use someone else’s sales process? That’s because it doesn’t fit your personality and your tonality. What happens if you don’t get sales coaching? You’ll keep undercharging for your service and will have poor boundaries with people.   Resources: Aleashabahr.com Sales is Not a Dirty Word Facebook Group Aleasha on LinkedIn   Quotes:   “Pain selling that’s popular these days is it makes people realize they’ve made the wrong choices up until this point.”   “Everybody makes mistakes, let’s not focus on it. You want to infuse hope and confidence. More people buy when they feel good than bad.”   “You’re selling all the time in your regular life and the only reason that you have an issue about it is there’s a transaction of money happening.”

What You'll Learn From This Episode: Remove the gap between sales and marketing Connecting the dots to match what you're selling to someone's end goal How mental strength is a powerful characteristic to have Related Links and Resources: Check the video on six ways to immediately close business and get some daily sales tips. You can check it out at: www.aleashabhar.com. Summary: Aleasha Bahr is a sales and marketing expert worldwide known as The Client Whisperer. She sold millions in revenue in the corporate world, but then got tired of the BS and transitioned to running her own business coaching solopreneurs and sales professionals to predictably have a 50% closing rate and 10x their sales. Aleasha firmly believes you don't have to be a “bad person to be good at sales” and has the results to prove it. Here are the highlights of this episode: 1:37 Aleasha's ideal Client: I focus a lot on characteristics they have as people, so anybody that cares about the people they are serving and wants to do a quality job. In my bio when it said that I was tired of the BS, it's because there's a lot of people that are incompetent in positions of authority in the corporate world. And a lot of people that don't really care about doing a good job. I really like working with people that do and are ready to just get it done. And solopreneurs are those people and sales teams, so I help both. 2:19Problem Aleasha helps solve: Most people are trying too hard to sell. I help with sales and marketing and a lot of times, those two don't talk to each other. Sales is the frontline of your marketing, they hear the objections that the people are really having, the response to the products, and the things that they want. And a lot of times, the two are at odds with each other. Because marketing will pre-frame the client for a sales call. Also, what they understand about the product and service comes from the marketing. So, I definitely help with that piece of it and that is a big one, there's a lot of gaps there usually. It's a unique thing to do as a sales coach. But I also help sales team perform better. 3:32Typical symptoms that clients do before reaching out to Aleasha: They should've closed, why didn't they close. That's the thing that they often saying. The Sales Manager are saying these people should've closed, they were perfect fit. Or the sales people are saying oh my gosh, these leads are so far off from our customer. Or the solopreneurs saying it make perfect sense, why didn't they close. 4:15What are some of the common mistakes that folks make before finding Aleasha and his solution: I would say one of the biggest mistakes is not connecting what you're selling to the person's end goal. A lot of people will talk about features of their programs and benefits. For example, I was working for a paid search company, and they will tell people this audit that they did..it sounds boring already. You want to say something like it's an audit, so we want to make sure that you getting the most leads for the less amount of money. A lot of people just don't connect those dots. I have a metaphor, if you invited your friend to a game, they've never been to a game of basketball and they don't know anything about it, and you tried to explained the rules, they will be like I don't want to go anymore. Too many people are explaining the rules of the game instead of making it sound like a good time. 5:45Aleasha's Valuable Free Action (VFA): The biggest thing you can do is to get out of your head; and understand the person across from you is a mother, brother, father, son.. human who's having a day, it might have been a good day or bad day, they've got stuffs going on later, and you are not a gross sales person, you are also a mother, brother, father, son. It's two people coming together to see if they can solve a problem that one of them is having. And this person hopes you're going to be able to solve it.

In this episode, Aleasha Morris and I continue our series on the Team Engagement Model, and today we're talking about why your team needs to be rooted and grounded in trust for long-term success. Our study and intensive observation of teams through a Strengths based lens has revealed that there is an unmistakable difference between healthy and unhealthy teams. In this Episode, you will Learn... What trust means, questions that can help you identify the level of trust on your team, what happens when trust is missing, and finally, examples of what this looks like in action. We also share some questions for helping you understand the purpose of your team. With strengths in mind, think of your team and ask yourself these questions: What do we value in each other? What do we need from each other? Do we have trust? Do we prioritize relational connections? Have we created an open team environment that can handle conflict, change, and accountability? Teams with a lack of trust are unmistakable. Often, many of the issues that emerge fall into these categories: Going Rogue Team Tension Splinter Cells Special Behavior We have also realized that to create an environment of Trust, teams first had to develop a shared expectation for how to BE a member of the team. So we, and they, came up with twelve “BE” statements to help them build and regain trust. BE honest BE respectful BE convicted BE vulnerable BE compassionate BE supportive BE courageous BE generous BE patient BE grateful BE willing BE open

In this episode, Aleasha Morris and I continue our series on the Team Engagement Model, and today we're talking about why knowing your people matters for the long-term success of your organization. Our study and intensive observation of teams through a Strengths based lens has revealed that there is an unmistakable difference between healthy and unhealthy teams. In this Episode, you will Learn... As a core concept of our Professional Team Engagement Model, Knowledge is about having an awareness and familiarity of each other gained by shared experience. It is also about individuals committing to continual learning about and genuinely valuing the contributions of each team member. With strengths in mind, think of your team and ask yourself these questions: Do you know who you are? Do you know the people on your team? Do you understand the multiple perspectives that exist? Do you know how your colleagues find motivation, derive satisfaction, and get work done? We have found that when teams experience misalignment in this area, more specifically, when they do not endeavor to know their team members through a lens of strength honestly, four major issues arise: Blind Spots Faulty Interpretation Errant Assumptions Assimilation

This is the first in a series of podcasts we're doing about how to make sure your team is the most effective, efficient, and engaged that it can be! In this show, you'll learn about our setup process that we go through to help teams fully engage and we'll introduce the three core elements of our Team Engagement Process, Knowledge, Purpose, and Trust. Questions for Assessing Your Team Keep in mind you can rephrase these questions to fit your context. Additionally, the answers to these questions need to be shared, preferably read aloud by each team member, one question at a time. For larger teams, these conversations can happen in smaller groups with share-outs to follow. How are your strengths helping to lead, influence, and impact this team? What strength(s) of yours is getting in the way? What are you most proud of with your team? Where do you see current areas of challenge for your team? What strengths can you leverage in yourself and others to stimulate positive change?
