See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The panel opens the show with plenty of humor before diving into several Vision Pro-focused stories and apps that caught their attention this week. The discussion begins with Apple's recognition of The Primary News in Depth as part of the Apple Design Awards. The app delivers immersive spatial news experiences on Vision Pro and sparks conversation about the future of immersive journalism and the challenges of producing high-quality spatial video content. Marty points out how apps like this can expose users to stories and perspectives from around the world that traditional U.S. news outlets often overlook. The panel also highlights Let's Go Fly, a free Vision Pro immersive aviation app that lets users experience flight in spatial video. Jill shares her enthusiasm for flight simulation experiences and discusses how immersive environments like this could become a major use case for Vision Pro moving forward. Attention then shifts to the future of Vision Pro hardware after new reports suggested Apple may be developing a lighter and more affordable Vision Pro successor for release sometime around 2028. Marty explains the distinction between Vision Pro as a premium immersive entertainment and enterprise device versus future Apple smart glasses aimed at mainstream consumers. Jeff strongly pushes back against ongoing claims that Vision Pro is "on ice," arguing Apple has always treated the product as an evolving platform rather than a mass-market product from day one. Jill compares the current state of Vision Pro to the early days of expensive VHS players and other technology products that eventually became mainstream over time. The team also discusses a newly granted Apple patent describing an Apple Pencil-like XR input device capable of providing haptic feedback and texture simulation in virtual environments. Jeff becomes especially excited about the creative possibilities for artists, sculptors, and even medical professionals using virtual tools with tactile feedback. The group also talks about how Apple's haptics technology continues to separate its ecosystem from competitors. On the software side, the panel reviews the latest Apple beta and minor software updates, including macOS Tahoe 26.5.1 and an iOS update addressing charging issues affecting iPhone Air and iPhone 17 models. Jeff shares a theory that the macOS update may also quietly address kernel panic crashes tied to external spinning hard drives connected to Macs. With WWDC 2026 only days away, the discussion shifts heavily toward predictions and expectations for Apple's annual developer conference. The panel reacts to Apple inviting WWDC attendees to a special screening of The Mandalorian and Grogu at Apple Park, complete with a possible appearance by special guests involved with the film. Dave shares his thoughts after seeing the movie in theaters and praises its action sequences and sound design. The conversation then turns to WWDC predictions, with everyone agreeing that Apple Intelligence and Siri upgrades will likely dominate much of the keynote. Jeff expects Apple to focus on AI integration without going overboard the way other tech companies have recently done. Jill hopes Apple introduces a much more personal and contextual AI assistant capable of understanding the user's device, files, habits, and health data. She also expresses interest in deeper HealthKit integration that could provide meaningful insights into sleep patterns, blood sugar tracking, and wellness habits. Marty predicts Apple will expose new APIs allowing Siri and Apple Intelligence to integrate more deeply into apps and potentially VisionOS itself. HomeKit and smart home functionality become another major topic as the panel discusses rumors surrounding new HomePod mini hardware, a refreshed Apple TV, and a possible smart home-focused "HomePad" device. Jeff floats the idea that Apple could eventually position Apple TV as a more serious gaming console if future hardware includes dramatically improved processors. The show also includes several practical Apple tips, including how to leave FaceTime video voicemail messages, set up text replacements, use the one-handed iPhone keyboard, clear notifications quickly, and set timers that automatically stop music or audio playback. Jeff also highlights how much he relies on Universal Clipboard between Apple devices throughout his day. Later in the episode, the panel discusses Apple's latest App Design Award winners, including apps like Structured, Grug, Is This Seat Taken?, Guitar Whiz, and immersive Vision Pro NBA experiences. Jill shares her enthusiasm for Structured as an ADHD-friendly productivity app, while Marty and Jeff discuss puzzle games, retro-style experiences, and the growing creativity in Apple's developer ecosystem. The episode closes with excitement surrounding Macstock 10 and the upcoming Ecamm Creator Camp event. Dave, Marty, Jeff, and Jill talk about their upcoming presentations, the importance of community networking, and how Macstock continues to bring together Apple fans, creators, podcasters, and developers for one of the most enjoyable Apple community events of the year. The panel also reflects on the upcoming closure of the British Tech Network and the final episodes of several long-running shows. "A living story is immersive, embodied, agentic, responsive, and social. It's stories that we get to be in and experience and live — as opposed to dead stories." —Charlie MelcherCharlie Melcher has been on the cutting edge of storytelling for decades—from designing books with J.J. Abrams and Al Gore to building an app that Steve Jobs fell in love with to producing a 6,000-person immersive storytelling summit. In this conversation, he breaks down what he calls living stories: experiences that are immersive, embodied, agentic, responsive, and social, and why he believes they are the antidote to the loneliness and disconnection fueled by passive media. We cover the neuroscience of multi-sensory learning, the dyslexia origin story that put Charlie on this path, and the moment he walked into his team and said "we're no longer in the book business." We also get into where AI fits into all of this and why Charlie sees it as the great unlock for immersive storytelling at scale. This one will make you see every story you've ever consumed differently. In this episode, you will learn to:Understand what a living story is and how immersion, agency, and embodiment change the way audiences feel and rememberRecognize why limiting storytelling to two senses is leaving most of your audience's emotional capacity untappedUse multi-sensory and physical elements to deepen learning, memory, and emotional connection in any story formatSee how AI will enable personalized, responsive story worlds at scale and why that demands a moral compass from storytellersReframe your own origin story the way Charlie did: not as a limitation but as the thread that explains everythingFollow Charlie Melcher:Website → https://www.futureofstorytelling.orgPodcast → The Future of Storytelling with Charlie MelcherBook → The Future of Storytelling by Charlie Melcher https://amzn.to/4w6gFVQCompany → Melcher Media → https://www.melchermedia.comExperience → Future of Storytelling Explorers Club → https://www.futureofstorytelling.orgBook Referenced → The Extended Mind by Annie Murphy Paul https://amzn.to/42UcU8ABook Referenced → Bowling Alone by Robert Putnam https://amzn.to/4whTtUJBook Referenced → S. Marty talks about the recent list of best Apple Vision Pro apps of 2025  as suggested by PCMagazineThe Best Apple Vision Pro Apps for 2025https://www.pcmag.com/picks/the-best-apple-vision-pro-appsWhat PCMag's list coversA spread across work/productivity, creativity & learning, entertainment, utilities, and games—with emphasis on apps that feel “native” in spatial computing. Work / ProductivityThings 3 (visionOS) — full task manager in floating windows; great with hand/eye input and multiple spaces. Zoom / Microsoft 365 / Box — core “office” stack is available on Vision Pro for meetings and docs (PCMag's earlier work-apps piece highlights these). Creativity & LearningNight Sky — astronomy in 3D space; spatial sky maps are a natural fit. Mindfulness (Apple) — breathing/reflect sessions as an ambient spatial experience; easy daily habit. Entertainment & MediaApple TV, Disney+, Prime Video, Crunchyroll — strongest “big screen” experiences today (some are iPad ports that still work well in an immersive theater). Note: Netflix still no app; use Safari as a fallback. YouTube native app is “on the roadmap.” GamesBlackbox (visionOS) — spatial puzzle design; Apple Design Award winner in Spatial Computing. Synth Riders — rhythm/fitness staple now on Vision Pro; good demo of full-body interaction. What the Golf? — playful physics/perspective gags translate well to big space. How to use the listPrioritize native visionOS apps first—they support depth, passthrough, and richer windowing. Then fill gaps with iPad ports you already love. Mix 2–3 apps per category to learn the UX: one work app (e.g., Things or Microsoft 365), one entertainment app (Apple TV/Disney+), one game (Synth Riders/Blackbox), and one wellness/learning app (Mindfulness/Night Sky). Quick takeawaysStart with one from each category to learn the platform's strengths.Prefer native visionOS versions for wow-factor and ergonomics.Expect a hybrid workflow until missing streaming apps arrive.Follow the live stream at YouTube.com/@VisionProfiles on Monday nights at 9 PM EST or catch the video later on Youtube or audio on any pod catcher serviceEmail: ThePodTalkNetwork@gmail.comWebsite: ThePodTalk.Net

NYT Games (winner, Delight and Fun): A comprehensive collection of games from the New York Times, including crosswords, Spelling Bee, Wordle, and more. Crayola Adventures (winner, Inclusivity): An adventure game for children that sets a new standard for inclusive character creation options. oko (winner, Inclusivity): An accessible navigation app that uses AI to provide detailed instructions and assistance for visually impaired users. Lost in Play (winner, Innovation): A beautifully drawn adventure game that feels like an interactive graphic novel. Procreate Dreams (winner, Innovation): A powerful drawing and illustration app that takes full advantage of the Apple Pencil and its features. Crouton (winner, Interaction): A feature-rich recipe manager and meal planner with unique interactions, such as using facial gestures to navigate recipes on iPhone and iPad. Rytmos (winner, Interaction): A clever puzzle game where solving mazes creates layered audio loops, resulting in a full musical composition. Shortcuts Corner: Listener Alex asks for help creating a shortcut to remind his father-in-law to take medication every five hours, without disturbing him during the night. Rosemary explains that while it's not possible to directly log medication in the Health app, a close solution can be achieved. She suggests adding an icon to the home screen that, when tapped, logs the medication as taken and sets a reminder for the next dose. The shortcut should also disable any existing medication reminders and avoid setting reminders during the father-in-law's sleeping hours. Rosemary walks through the process of creating the shortcut using actions like Find Alarms, Adjust Date, and If statements. It's an all new That Real Blind Tech Show. It's a threesome as someone on the show does not know how the calendar and reminders work on the iPhone.   We start off insulting a member of our show, because we like to make fun of each other. It makes us feel more secure about our own lives.   We kick our stories off discussing that Atari recently purchased Intelivision, and yes this article is from 2024. Which leads us to a discussion about the potential rise of the Audio Video Game.   Thanks to Autio audio can now entertain you on those long road trips.   We were thrilled to learn friends of the podcast OKO has been nominated as a finalist for the 2024 Apple Design Awards.   Be My A.I. in partnership with Microsoft launched their all new PC Desktop which can currently be found in the Windows Store.   It's then back to the Mac as we discuss the A.I. Mac plug in TypeAhead.AI.   Could the double level airplane seat be coming to an airline near you?   And of course right before we start recording Apple and Open A.I. reportedly have come to an agreement to have ChatGPT on iOS 18. We then got some leaked reports about Project Grey Matter out of Apple for iOS 18. In iOS 18, A.I. will give you more control to control specific features of apps using Siri, but don't expect this feature to Abe available this year, why would you? The conversation then turns to should apple be announcing features that will not arrive for close to a year?   Of course Washington wants new A.I. laws to protect Hollywood and famous rich people. And on a related note, who knew that celebrity voice erotica is all the rage these days! We then dive in to what voice would be our ideal VoiceOver voice.   We then finally get to our yearly look back of wWDC 23. We discuss if we are any closer to being able to talk with our animals?   We then talk about the latest update on the Mac and Apple breaking QuickNav yet again. Seriously we will eventually get in to our Look Back of WWDC 23. We discuss Passkeys,    New voices, point and speak, personal voice, new auto correct and spelling features, and of course improved diction. Seriously how much worse has dictation gotten on the iPhone in the last year. We got a new Name Drop feature. We got a Journal app. We got Air Tag Sharing. We got new interactive widgets to the iPad.
