Many people think the first two chapters of the Bible contradict one another. Which chapter's right?

Last night, Pastor Chad kicked off our new series “Soft Launch,” focused on dating in 2025. He reminded us that preparing for relationships starts long before we meet someone. We need to be intentional about getting ourselves ready to date and eventually start a family. Here's how: 1. Grow biblically 2. Live sacrificially 3. Assume responsibility We also need clarity on what we're looking for—alignment in faith, family values, and a shared vision for the future. The Bible gives us a framework for recognizing a godly spouse, especially through passages like John 29 and Proverbs 31. We were encouraged not to rush into dating. Take time to really get to know someone—talk to their friends, observe their character, and seek God's wisdom. And most importantly, stay open to what the Lord may bring. Be willing to make or take the offer when the time is right. This is about launching with purpose, not pressure. Missed last night's message? Each week, Paradigm sermons are posted on YouTube, Spotify, Amazon Music, and Pocket Casts!
Fr. Mike explains why all of us are called to listen to the prophets of the Old Testament, and why their role is so important in salvation history. Each of us is building some kind of life and picture of eternity: the question we must ask ourselves is are we building it with God or against him? Today's readings are 2 Kings 8, Hosea 8-10, and Psalm 108. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. It's Witness Wednesday! Todd Friel takes listeners to Georgia Tech today on Wretched Radio. Todd engages in thought-provoking conversations with several students, including a young man looking to pursue a career in research and development, a Catholic student who discusses the meaning of Easter, and two friends, exploring their beliefs and understanding of Christianity. Todd challenges them with questions about morality, the 10 Commandments, and the Gospel, encouraging them to reflect on their faith and the concept of salvation through Jesus Christ. Segment 1: • Grad student admits he's broken God's laws (lying, stealing, lust, disobedience). • Hopes his good works might offset guilt, but struggles to grasp grace alone. • Realizes salvation is not “Jesus makes up the difference” but “Jesus did it all.” Segment 2: • Catholic student says everyone is forgiven if they live a “good life.” • Admits to lying, lust, stealing music, and likely headed for hell by his own words. • Catholic student is presented with the full Gospel: not good works, but repentance and faith alone in Jesus. Segment 3: • Todd meets two friends who admit to breaking multiple commandments (lying, stealing, lust, anger). • They wrestle with the concept of justice: sin against an infinite God demands infinite punishment. • Todd clearly explains the Gospel as the only solution: Christ's full payment credited by grace alone. Segment 4: • One of the friends recalls prior conversation with Todd but still hasn't pursued the Bible or Gospel seriously. • The other friend admits failing God's standard but struggles with recognizing guilt fully. • Todd once again presents the Gospel in full: God's justice satisfied through Christ's substitutionary death. ___ Thanks for listening! The idea of confronting people in their sin seems like the last thing a church would want to do, particularly if its goal is to attract more people. However, when Jesus gave instructions regarding the church, the topic we know of as church discipline as a top priority. In this message from Matthew 18:15–20, David Platt exhorts the church to carry out its God-given responsibility to deal with sin and to seek to restore one another. We can trust Jesus to build his church, for he desires our holiness and he knows that sin is destructive.Explore more content from Radical.

From a violent East L.A. childhood under an abusive preacher father to stabbing his dad at 16, Joe's rage fueled over 30 audacious bank heists, outwitting the FBI with disguises and body doubles. Solitary confinement nearly broke him, but a transformative correspondence sparked redemption. Now a writer and Hollywood consultant (Baby Driver, Taken), Joe unpacks trauma, toxic masculinity, and the system's role in crafting criminals. Is his redemption real, or is he a pawn in a larger narrative? GUEST: Joe Loya is a former bank robber turned acclaimed writer and Hollywood consultant. Growing up in East L.A. under a violently abusive Christian minister father, Joe's trauma culminated in stabbing his father at 16, igniting a path to crime. In the late '80s and early '90s, he robbed over 30 banks with cunning disguises and high-speed escapes, earning notoriety as California's most elusive outlaw. After two years in solitary confinement, a correspondence with author Richard Rodriguez sparked his transformation. Loya's memoir, The Man Who Outgrew His Prison Cell, and his work on films like Baby Driver and Taken showcase his storytelling, rooted in his youth as a Bible preacher. Featured in The Guardian and CNN, Joe's journey from rage to redemption raises questions about trauma, criminality, and the system's role in shaping both. Joe's remarkable story is the subject of Season Four of the podcast series, The Burden: Get the Moey and Run. Greg answers questions from an atheist about why Jesus couldn't write his own book, what God has been doing all of this time, why Christians don't read the Bible if it's the Word of God, God existing “before” time, and whether pastors use fear tactics to get people to tithe. Topics: Tell us why Jesus, the God of the universe, couldn't write his own book. (07:00) Would you care to explain what the all-knowing, all-powerful God of the universe has been doing all of this time? (13:00) If the Bible is the Word of God, then why do 99% of Christians spend less than 15 minutes a week reading it? Maybe they're delusional, egotistical hypocrites who fear a man-made, invisible God. Do you even know what epistemology and logical argumentation are? (24:00) It's illogical to say that God could exist before time. (35:00) Do you think Christians pay a 10% tithe because they want to, or is it because the leaders of the church know they can't survive unless they use fear tactics to convince their congregations they're sinning if they don't give 10%? (44:00) Related Links: Should Christians Tithe? by Greg Koukl

In this episode, we're joined by the wise and wonderful Lisa Harper — author, Bible teacher, and one of the most joy-filled voices in the Church today. With her trademark humor and heartfelt honesty, Lisa shares a powerful conversation with Shelley Giglio about theology, friendship, and the beauty of living in a deep community connection. Lisa opens up about her early struggles with inadequacy and how, for a time, theology became a mask she wore rather than a lens through which she could truly see Jesus. But as God gently reshaped her heart, Lisa began to understand that real theology is deeply relational, all about knowing Christ and letting that knowledge transform our lives. In this conversation, Lisa lets us into how that revelation has impacted her view on community, and challenges us to do the same. She also gives us a glimpse into what God is doing through her Kerygma Conference and her new book, “A Jesus Shaped Life.” In true Lisa Harper fashion, this episode is filled with both deep belly laughs and powerful theological truths, serving as a reminder to us that theology isn't just for classrooms or scholars, but for every woman longing to know Jesus and walk with Him more closely. The Grove is an extension of all God is doing here at Passion City Church in Atlanta, Georgia, to serve and care for women everywhere. Have you ever felt like a person or a people group deserve punishment, but you don't? There was a man in scripture like that. His name was Jonah, and he lacked mercy but expected to receive it. Are we like Jonah? Sometimes I think we're more like the bad actors in the Bible than the good ones. A careful study of the book of Jonah reveals several common problems. It's easy to point out Jonah's faults, but he really was a lot like us. We want people to forgive us when we're wrong, but we may not be so willing to show them the same kind of mercy. Together, they explore Scripture, share personal stories, and reflect on what it really means to say, “I'm proud to be an American.” This Dangerous Conversation goes deep into identity, gratitude, and dependence on God over self-glorification. Bible Reading: Psalm 119:9-16Rylee leaned back to see the top of the huge saguaro cactus next to her. Its spiny arms reached out and up toward the sky. "With so many big arms, this thing should be holding something. Try sitting on one of its arms, Easton," Rylee said with a grin."No way!" said Easton. "I'm not sitting on those prickly things!""Those arms," said Dad, "are holding what is probably the most valuable thing in the entire region.""And I know what it is," Easton said. "Water! Cactus plants can live in the dry, hot desert by storing water inside their trunk and arms.""That can't be right," said Rylee, looking around at the sand and rocks. They extended as far as she could see. "There's no water here!""Easton is right," said Dad. "Cactus roots don't go very deep into the earth. Instead, they go down only about three feet and then spread out about a hundred feet in all directions. The spread-out roots draw in every drop of rain, sending it to a hidden storage area in the arms and trunk of the cactus. That inner water supply is what keeps this cactus alive and growing. These big fellas can soak up as much as two hundred gallons of water--enough to last them a whole year!""Yeah, that's why they're pleated like an accordion," Easton said, eager to show his knowledge. "The pleats expand as the spongy material inside absorbs water.""That's incredible!" said Rylee. "Well, Mr. Cactus, I can see you're a pretty smart guy!"Dad smiled. "One with a good lesson for us about the importance of storing things.""About storing water?" asked Easton. "I don't really mind carrying a water bottle--and I like the size of my arms the way they are!"Dad laughed. "I wasn't thinking of your arms, Easton. Let's try your heart! I hope both of you will store God's Word in your heart and mind. Then when things get difficult, you can draw from those words of hope, comfort, and guidance. Knowing God's Word helps us remember what Jesus has done for us and that He's always with us. Like water in a dry desert, it will nourish you and help you grow in your relationship with Him." –Trudy Vander VeenHow About You?Have you been growing spiritually? I believe in the imminent return of Christ, meaning I believe Jesus could come back at any time. Today could be the day of Christ's return. Today could be the day of the rapture of the church. Are you ready for Jesus to come back? Are you living like Jesus is coming back today?Main Points:1. Let me remind you that Jesus is indeed coming back. Scripture foretold the birth of Jesus, and it was fulfilled. The Bible described the death and resurrection of Christ, and it happened as the prophecy foretold. Likewise, the Scripture has promised the return of Jesus. The God who has spoken will fulfill His Word.2. So, what does it mean to live like Jesus is coming back? It means being prepared. It means living with our hearts on God and his will for our lives. It means being focused on the work He has called us to do. Living like Jesus is coming back at any time causes us to live sober lives. It calls us to live in holiness and righteousness.3. Jesus is coming back, and He is coming back soon. Are you ready? Are you prepared? Are you busy serving Him and fulfilling His purpose for your life? Today's Scripture Verses:John 14:2-4 - “There is more than enough room in my Father's home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.”Revelation 22:20 - “He who is the faithful witness to all these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon!”1 Thessalonians 5:2 - “…the day of the Lord's return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night.” Quick Links:Subscribe to The 5 Minute Discipleship NewsletterDonate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group
