Fr. Mike uses the readings today to ask the question, how can we love the Lord joyfully, and with our whole hearts? In scripture today we see David succeed in this, while his son Solomon is divided in his love of God. Fr. Mike also explains why David was seeking his own power when taking the census in 2 Samuel, and how he fell subject to the evil one's tempting. Today's readings are 2 Samuel 24, 1 Chronicles 29, and Psalm 30. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. What will happen to humanity and the entire universe at the end of time? Fr. Mike shares with us the joyous hope of the new heaven and the new earth that awaits us after the Last Judgment. We learn that “at the end of time, the Kingdom of God will come in its fullness,” and all of creation will be redeemed and renewed. There will be no more weeping, mourning, nor pain, for death shall be no more. Fr. Mike invites us to hold on to this hope as we struggle on this side of heaven and await this great promise. Today's Catechism readings are paragraphs 1042-1050. Ep. 339 - The Importance of Good, Clear Doctrine

Ray, E.Z., Mark, and Oscar dive into the importance of doctrine in the Christian life, challenging the idea that doctrine is cold or unnecessary. They emphasize that doctrine isn't exclusive to Christianity—everyone has a belief system, even atheists. As soon as you begin to answer questions about who Jesus is, you're entering doctrinal territory. Christians are called to meditate on the Word of God because without sound doctrine, it's easy to believe a lie. The guys talk about how many believers avoid doctrine due to a misunderstanding of the gospel. When you understand the gospel as adoption into God's family, gratitude drives you to know your Savior more. There's no divide between deep love for God and sound theology. Doctrine is rooted in theology, which is the knowledge of God—and you can't love someone you don't know. Each truth learned about God is another reason to love Him. Mark reminds us that good doctrine leads to doxology—right worship. The way you live spiritually and physically will catch up with you, and without sound doctrine, decisions lack a foundation. Discernment is knowing the difference between right and almost right, which can be the difference between truth and deception. As Ray mentions, a sign of the end times is people turning from sound doctrine to what suits their desires, following prosperity preachers who don't teach the true gospel.Church history also reminds us of the weight of doctrine—people have died for it. While unity is important, the truth should never be sacrificed. Unsound doctrine often stems from a lack of seriousness about sin. The guys discuss how peace should be pursued where possible, but not at the expense of truth. Essential doctrines—like the authority of Scripture, the nature of God, the Trinity, the person and work of Jesus, salvation, the Holy Spirit, the church, and Christ's return—are non-negotiable. Secondary issues, though important, are not hills to die on.The group also warns against extremes—those who read only the Bible and reject all theological resources, and those who rely solely on commentaries without reading Scripture. Doctrine should be both understood and lived out. Truths like the doctrine of creation remind us we are made in God's image, and eschatology offers comfort in a chaotic world. When confronting false doctrine, we must do so with humility, remembering Philippians 2 and esteeming others higher than ourselves. Doctrine isn't just information—it's transformation, guiding how we live, worship, and walk with Christ daily.Send us a textThanks for listening! What do we do when people fail us in our greatest time of need? How can the church do a better job at entering into people's pain and walking with them in their stories?Dr. Michelle Keener walked through her own season of suffering and eventually found herself deep diving into Biblical research on the book of Job in the Bible through the lens of trauma. It was through her scholarly research that she was able to find principles that applied to her own pain and to the Church at large when it comes to helping trauma survivors. In her book **Comfort in the Ashes: Explorations in the Book of Job to Support Trauma Survivors**, she connects the story of Job-a man who knew incredible trauma and pain-to practical ways individuals and the church can show up in suffering. In this insightful episode, Aubrey sits with Dr. Keener to discuss how we can connect our own personal experiences of trauma to those in scripture, why the church struggles to help those who are hurting, and how the gospel applies to pain. If you've ever needed people to meet you in your pain and didn't find the support available or if you've ever struggled to know how to step into the pain of someone else, this conversation is a gentle reminder of how we can steward each other's stories well as we move through grief and trauma in life and how God is always there to comfort us in the ashes. If not, then it's likely you'll be tempted toward anxiety and fear in the near future. There is so much we can't control in our lives, but as Psalm 131 reminds us, we weren't made to control our lives or to be autonomous. We were made to humbly rely on God, for this is the only way to experience true and lasting rest. In this message, David Platt encourages us to imitate the Psalmist in Psalm 131 by entrusting our lives to the Lord. Regardless of the trials we may face, those who belong to Christ by faith can rest in God's sovereign goodness and all-sufficient salvation. Explore more content from Radical.

In this Bible Story, David remains home from battle to rest. While his men fight on the front lines of the Ammonites, he eventually grows complacent, and sleeps with the wife of one of his mighty men, Uriah. She becomes pregnant, and David sends Uriah to the front lines to be killed to cover up his sins. This story is inspired by 2 Samuel 11. Snippet from the Show “I'm grateful for the diaconate because I've always seen it as a part of the way the Church has ministered over the centuries, the way the Apostolic Church saw a need to fulfill and I think also the purpose of the Cross of Jesus Christ is to keep us in mind that our job is to be a sacrifice for other people.” We want to hear from you! Biblical literacy is over, right? The world is too secular to care about the Bible, and even if people were interested, our attention spans—shaped by smartphones and streaming—couldn't keep up anyway. So why are Bible sales on the rise? And how is it that a podcast helping people read the Bible in ten-minute segments is outpacing names like Joe Rogan on the charts? Millions of listeners tune in daily to The Bible Recap with Tara-Leigh Cobble, a podcast designed to walk people through the entire Bible one day at a time. In this episode, Russell talks with Tara-Leigh about what's behind this surprising hunger for Scripture—and what it reveals about our spiritual moment. Tara-Leigh shares how she never set out to be a Bible teacher. In fact, she realized as an adult that she didn't actually know the Bible. What's more, when she began reading it, she found herself troubled by the God she encountered in its pages. That experience set her on a journey to understand both the Bible and the character of God more deeply—a journey that has since helped millions of others do the same. Whether the Bible feels like unfamiliar territory to you or you know it right down the maps in the back, this conversation will spark your imagination about what's happening in this cultural moment—and how the Bible continues to surprise us. Embark on this year-long voyage through the Bible, and let each day's passage uplift and inspire you. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible with your host, Hunter. Today marks Day 142 in our journey through the pages of scripture. In this episode, Hunter makes a special note to correct yesterday's reading mix-up, ensuring we're back on track with today's passages: 1 Kings 6, 2 Chronicles 3, Psalm 97, and Romans 1. Together, we'll revisit the detailed and awe-inspiring construction of Solomon's temple, reflect on the majesty and justice of God in the Psalms, and dive into the powerful opening of Paul's letter to the Romans, where the heart of the good news—how we are made right with God by faith alone—takes center stage. Amid gentle encouragement, prayer, and reminders of God's steadfast love, Hunter invites us not only to hear the Word, but to share it, live it, and allow it to transform our lives. So, settle in as we realign our hearts with the story of God's faithfulness, right here, together. TODAY'S DEVOTION: How do we make ourselves right before God? Is it by doing more, avoiding more, knowing more? All of the religions of the world will lead you down one or all of these paths. You must do. You must avoid. You must know. But none of these paths end up being any good at answering the question of how we're made right with God. In the end, they are not good news, and you know that from your own life. When we give ourselves to trying to do more and more in order to justify ourselves before God, we soon begin to ask, well, how much more and how good is good enough? And that question leads to all kinds of pride and rules. And the rules never satisfy, and they never end. In the end, they make us either liars or delusional. Either we're pretending to be rule keepers when we're not, or we're believing that we've kept all the rules, but we haven't. And those that are closest to us can clearly see the truth: we are not as loving and pure as we say we are. No, doing more is not the answer, but neither is avoiding, trying to avoid our obligations to God. Living for the self, our desires, appetites leads only to an empty life. We become owned by the very appetites that we thought would set us free. And if doing and avoiding are not the answer, neither is knowing. God is not a subject to be mastered. He is the master, and we will not really know him unless we let him master us. The good news that we're looking for, to be made right with God, is found from start to finish by faith, we're told here. And that faith is a gift. That faith was lived out in him—in the life of Jesus. His faith, his obedience, his compassion, his love is what ultimately saves us. He saves us from start to finish. Galatians 2:20 says, I am crucified with Christ. Nevertheless, I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me. And the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. And that is the good news, my friend. That is how we are made right with God. Our real life is hid with God in Christ from start to finish. Now we live by the faith of the Son of God who loved us and gave himself for us. Amen. May this be so for me, for my family, and for you. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Jesus is my shepherd. You have called me by my name into the life of the beloved. Here in the stillness, I remember that I am not alone. I belong to you and to the great communion of saints and sinners held together in your love. Remind me, Lord, that every breath is grace. Every encounter is a chance to give what I have received, mercy without measure. When I forget who I am, when I lose my way, Lead me again to still waters. Restore my soul. Renew my hope. Reroute me in the joy of simply being yours. Amen. And now as our Lord has taught us, we are bold to pray. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Bible Reading: 1 Chronicles 16:11-13 Isaiah sat at the table ready to eat breakfast. While his mom poured a bowl of cereal, he noticed something about her that felt as familiar as her ears; he noticed the silver chain around her neck with a small dice charm at the end. "Mom, why do you always wear that necklace?" Isaiah asked. Mom slid the bowl of cereal and a spoon across the table. "Good question," she said as she poured her own bowl of cereal. "Do you remember my grandpa, your Great-Grandpa Anderson?" "Kind of," Isaiah said. "Didn't he die when I was really little?" "Yes," Mom said. "When you were three. I wear this to remember him." "Doesn't it just make you sad?" Isaiah asked as he picked up his spoon. "I do feel sad," Mom answered. "And that's okay. I miss him so much. When I see this dice charm, I remember the way he loved me no matter what. I remember how he took broken things and restored them, like that classic car that's still in your great-grandma's garage. When he bought the car, it was basically a pile of rust. But when he finished his work, the car gleamed and looked new, and he hung fuzzy dice from the rearview mirror. These are things I want to remember, things that remind me not only of my grandpa, but also of Jesus and how He loves us and restores us." "I'm going to think of that story now when I look at your necklace too," Isaiah said. As he munched another spoonful of cereal, Mom said, "A lot of the Bible is about remembering--remembering who God is and what He has done, remembering His love and promises. While we're sad about sin and pain, diseases and death, reading the Bible helps us remember the past and have hope for the future." "I feel sad when I think about Joel's little brother having leukemia," Isaiah said. "Is there a Bible story that can give me and Joel some hope?" "Jesus healed many people when He was on earth, and those healings point to His promise to end pain, sickness, and death forever when He comes again." Mom reached for her Bible. "I'll look up some stories and verses we can read together when you get home from school."–Rachel LubowHow About You?What is your favorite Bible story? How does it show you who God is? How does it give you hope? We all feel sad, confused, afraid, and lonely sometimes. One of the ways God gives us hope is by reminding us that He keeps every promise He makes, which is one of the things we learn about Him in many stories written in the Bible. Read it to remember what God has done and that He is faithful. Today's Key Verse:Remember the wondrous works He has done, His wonders, and the judgments He has pronounced.
