If you're not radically generous, you're a thief. The Bible is full of this teaching. If the money you have was yours and you're not generous with it, you're just being stingy; but if the money is somebody else's and you're not generous with it as the owner directs, it's robbery. The Bible says your attitude toward your wealth and your possessions is not an incidental or peripheral or optional issue. It's at the very heart of what it is to be a Christian. A Christian says the money you have is yours to enjoy and take care of as a trustee, but you must give it generously as God directs. James 2 says real faith inevitably leads to three characteristics: 1) it's radically generous, 2) it's radically gracious, and 3) it's radically practical. In this episode, we discuss the nature of God, “who” God is, beginning with God the Father. Our reading explains how the Creed begins with God the Father because he is the first Divine Person of the most Holy Trinity. God is one Divine Being made up of three persons, and his identity is a deep mystery. Fr. Mike explains that God is a single ‘what' made up of three ‘who's.' Despite this mystery, God is not an anonymous force. He has revealed himself to us by making his name known to us, and he has thus made himself accessible. Friendship is one of many areas touched on in Proverbs 27, and verse 17 gives us a chance to consider friendship from two angles: the kind of friends we choose and the kind of friend that we are to others. God meant for us to keep each other spiritually sharp. Here's a great reminder verse for the week: "Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend."
