Sometimes, the presence of God can seem almost terrifying—especially when it shows up in places or moments we least expect. The disciples learned this firsthand when Jesus came to them walking on the water in the midst of a storm. They were afraid, worn out from straining against the wind, doing all they knew to do: rowing with their own strength, growing exhausted and maybe even hopeless at the challenge before them. We, too, often find ourselves in the same boat—facing the winds that come against our families, marriages, children, our lives. We dig deep, try harder, and in spite of it all, sometimes feel like we're getting nowhere. The normal response is to keep pushing and striving. But what if, like the disciples, we miss the presence of Jesus in the middle of our trouble, dismissing him as something "unreal," just a ghost amidst our exhaustion? But Jesus steps into that place of fear and futility and speaks, "Don't be afraid. Take courage. I am here." The invitation is to lay down our oars and trust him, to let him meet us where we are, to believe that his presence makes the impossible possible. When we respond, as Peter did, we can experience something different than we've ever known—we can walk on water, move through storms, see a new way forward. Let's open our eyes to see him coming to us, even in the middle of nowhere, even when life feels overwhelming. Let's put down our striving and hear his voice. He's inviting us to courage, not fear; to rest, not more rowing; to faith, not despair. That's the prayer I have for my own soul—that in the middle of my storms, I would recognize the Lord who comes for me. That's the prayer I have for my family, for my wife and children. MUSICPras Michel, a founding member of the hip-hop group the Fugees, was sentenced Thursday to 14 years in federal prison for illegally funneling millions of dollars in foreign money into U.S. political campaigns.A jury found him guilty in April 2023 of 10 counts, including conspiracy and acting as an unregistered foreign agent, in connection with a scheme involving Malaysian financier Jho Low.The judge rejected prosecutors' call for a life sentence, but described Michel's conduct as “brazen.” Nine Inch Nails drummer Josh Freese will release a new album next Friday, November 28th.Just a Minute, Vol. 2, which will be out on Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard's Loosegroove Records, is the follow-up to 2021's Vol. 1, which contained 20 one-minute songs. Freese will hit the road next month for three shows with Weezer in Australia in which he will play guitar. Scoffers will arise in the last days, following their own sinful desires and questioning the promise of Christ's return. They will deliberately ignore that God once judged the world through the great flood and that He will one day judge it again, this time by fire. Peter explains that the Lord is not slow in keeping His promise but is patient, giving time for all to come to repentance. The day of the Lord will come like a thief, without warning, and the natural creation will be destroyed. Therefore, believers are called to live holy and godly lives as they look forward to the eternal home of righteousness.  As we anticipate the return of Christ, we anchor our hope in His promise, knowing that His timing is perfect. Though the world may mock or ignore the truth, we trust that God is patient and merciful, allowing more people to turn to Him. This truth shapes how we live each day. We do not cling to the temporary things of this world because we know they will pass away. The natural world will be destroyed, but God is preparing a new heaven and a new earth filled with righteousness. We strive to live holy and peaceful lives, growing in grace and truth so that when He returns, we will be found faithful and ready to dwell with Him forever.  Creator God, thank You for Your patience and mercy in giving many the time to turn to You. Help us to live with holy hearts as we await the return of Christ. Teach us to seek the truth, grow in grace, and stand firm when others doubt Your promises. Remind us that this world is not our final home and that You are preparing a new heaven and a new earth for kingdom citizens. May we remain faithful and watchful, ready to meet You.
