Fr. Mike points out how easy it is to take good things and make idols out of them, setting them up as God's rivals for our hearts. We can discover these rivals by noticing the things we prioritize over spending time with God. The readings are 2 Maccabees 13, Wisdom 15-16, and Proverbs 25:15-17. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. Please note: The Bible contains adult themes that may not be suitable for children - parental discretion is advised.
Children are a gift from God. Children have integrity and rights. With these key principles in mind, Fr. Mike reviews the Catechism's teachings about marriage, family, child bearing, sterility, and adoption. Because “a child is not something owed to one but is a gift”, we must protect the dignity of the child at the forefront of all decisions. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 2373-2379. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. If you don't memorize Scripture, you won't be able to stand against the devil. Ray, E.Z., Mark, and Oscar each share how storing God's Word in their hearts transformed their faith and equipped them for spiritual battle. E.Z. didn't grow up with the Bible, and when he discovered it, he became captivated by its sweetness and power to guide his life. Oscar initially found the Bible confusing, but through memorization, he came to see it as the single, reliable source of wisdom. While God's law is written on our hearts and gives a general sense of right and wrong, conviction and clarity come when His Word is hidden within, ready to guide and correct in the moment.Memorizing Scripture allows truth to come to mind during temptation and conviction, shaping responses through godly wisdom rather than emotion. Without it, believers risk relying on the world instead of God's guidance. Sanctification is lifelong as the Spirit reveals sin, and as we grow, we become continual repenters, allowing Scripture to illuminate dark corners of the heart. The Word is living and active, a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, providing strength and fruitfulness. Mark reflects that those who meditate on Scripture day and night are like trees planted by streams of water, deeply rooted and bearing fruit in every season. The Word equips believers as vessels of honor, ready for every good work. It is the sword of the Spirit—powerful only when known and applied. Believers are called to treasure scripture like hidden gold, rejoicing in its truth and prioritizing it above all else. Jesus upheld the authority of Scripture as the ultimate standard of truth that will judge the nations. Memorization fills minds with good things, yet it has become a lost discipline in the modern church. How valuable it would be to have Scripture ready to encourage a friend, for from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The more we store God's Word, the more we live by it.The early church eagerly gathered to hear Scripture read aloud, but today many settle for spiritual fast food instead of feasting on truth. Ray warns that the church often treats the Bible like a fragile artifact rather than a living guide meant to be used and marked. Jesus modeled memorization when He resisted Satan's temptations with truth. Memorizing Scripture takes time, but just minutes a day can transform your walk. Meditation means letting verses soak into the soul. Memorizing Scripture is coming face-to-face with God—shaping the heart and strengthening faith. The Bible will keep you from sin, or sin will keep you from the Bible.Send us a textThanks for listening! While traveling, a light brighter than anything he had ever known appeared before him, and out of this light spoke the voice of Jesus. The Bible speaks of angels often. They were present in the Garden of Eden, and throughout the story of the Bible, they appear to people with messages, encouragement, and tangible help. Angels ministered to Jesus after His temptation and before His crucifixion, and they shared the good news of His resurrection. Despite their frequent appearance in God’s Word, our impression of angels is more often shaped by the myths and misconceptions that have developed over the centuries. They are warned not to show special treatment to the rich while ignoring the poor, because all people are equally valuable to God. Favoritism contradicts the command to love your neighbor as yourself. Breaking even one part of God's law is akin to breaking the entire law. Believers are called to live with mercy, knowing that God will show mercy to those who extend it. The second half of the chapter emphasizes the connection between faith and works. Faith that is not accompanied by action is dead and worthless. True faith transforms the way people live. It is demonstrated through obedience, compassion, and good deeds that reflect a living and active trust in God, in the likeness of Abraham. Our faith should be evident in how we live and treat others. When we show kindness, serve with humility, and care for those in need, we reflect the heart of God. We are called to love everyone, not just those who seem important or easy to love. Every person has value, and how we treat them reveals what is truly in our hearts. Faith that remains silent or still is not alive or complete. It grows and moves through action. Trust in God should lead us to act with mercy, justice, and compassion in obedience. We cannot separate our beliefs from our actions. Let our lives be full of grace, service, and a deep desire to prove what we believe. Heavenly Father, thank You for leading us to faith and showing us how to live with love and mercy. Help us see every person through Your eyes and treat them with kindness and respect. Teach us to put our faith into action, not just in words but with true compassion and care, serving others with diligence. Let our lives reflect the goodness You have shown us. Remove any pride or favoritism from our hearts and fill us with a desire to be active in obedience. Teach us to have the courage of Abraham and Rahab, trusting Your will in all circumstances. Thought Questions: Is favoritism still an issue among God's people today? What does it often look like, and how do you avoid this dangerous and destructive sin? If you keep the whole law except for being merciful to others, will that be alright? Why is mercy and service to others so significant to God? How do Abraham and Rahab teach you to live by faith? What did they believe and do that shows you the relationship between faith and works?

Fr. Mike breaks down the doctrine of purgatory as we read about Judas Maccabeus and his army praying for the dead in 2 Maccabees 12. We learn that purgatory is a process of purification that our hearts need in order to be ready to love God and to enter into his presence. In our reading of Wisdom today, Fr. Mike emphasizes the insanity of worshipping idols and how it's more tempting to make idols out of good things rather than evil things. Today's readings are 2 Maccabees 12, Wisdom 13-14, and Proverbs 25:11-14. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. Please note: The Bible contains adult themes that may not be suitable for children - parental discretion is advised.
Married love has an “innate language” of total and mutual self-giving. This language expresses itself in the marital act of sexual intimacy. Marital love mirrors God's love. It is free, total, faithful, and fruitful. Fr. Mike explains that in the face of this reality, contraception and infidelity directly contradict the marital covenant between a man and a woman. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 2364-2372. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. Instagram + TikTok: @investigatorslater In Part 1 of our in-depth two-part coverage of Ed Gein, the groundwork is laid for one of the most depraved and psychologically unhinged figures in criminal history. Ed Gein, aka The Butcher of Plainfield, was a man destroyed by the death of the only person he'd ever truly known and loved: his mother. For his entire life, Augusta Gein ruled Ed with a Bible in one hand and a clenched fist in the other. She shamed every flicker of desire, punished every natural impulse, and convinced Ed that all women were wicked, sex was sin, and men were filth. Under her suffocating control, Ed's identity didn't form — it fossilized. So when Augusta finally died, Ed didn't just grieve; he unraveled. Night after night, he crept into cemeteries under the Wisconsin moon to exhume the bodies of dead women who reminded him of his mother. Then, he dragged them back to his rancid farmhouse where he hung, carved, and skinned their corpses. Piece by piece, he built what he called a “woman suit,” stitched from human skin and shaped in his mother's image. It wasn't enough to love Augusta, or even to worship her. Ed Gein wanted to be her....to climb into her flesh, zip it up, and walk the earth as his mother reborn. Wisdom is promised to those who ask God in faith without doubting. Readers are reminded that true wealth is found in spiritual endurance, not earthly riches. Temptation is described as something that does not come from God but from personal desires. Each person is drawn away by their own longings, which lead to sin and ultimately death. God, on the other hand, gives every good and perfect gift and does not change. Believers are called to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger, especially when hearing God's word. True religion is demonstrated through obedience, care for the needy, and living a pure life that is unstained by the world. James begins with this proclamation: Our faith grows strongest amid challenges. When we face trials, we can see them as opportunities for growth rather than reasons to give up. God uses difficult moments to shape our patience and develop our character. We must seek wisdom and trust that God will provide it without hesitation. Temptation arises from within us, but God is here to help. It is easy to hear the word and move on, but we must live it out with intention. Along the way, our actions matter. We must care for others, especially those often overlooked. When we control our speech and pursue purity, we reflect the heart of God. He blesses those who walk in faith and obedience. Present God, You are close in every moment, even during our trials. Thank You for being constant when life feels uncertain. Give us hearts that trust You when we do not understand. Teach us to seek wisdom from You and to believe that You give generously. Help us not only to hear Your word but also to live it out with honesty and purpose. Shape our character through each challenge we face. Guard our words and purify our hearts so that our lives promote Your truth. Help us care for those in need and remain faithful in all we do. Thought Questions: How is it possible to “consider it all joy” when you encounter trials? How important is prayer, and how confident must you be in God's help? Why do some blame God when they face temptation? How does it help you to know that temptation is not of God and is born within you? What helps you keep the word fresh on your mind throughout your day? How does the word live in you when you serve and treat others well?

Ryan and Alex explore the true meaning of the word “apocalypse”, not as destruction, but as revelation. They dive into the multilayered nature of prophecy across cultures and traditions, compare different end-time narratives, and look at how they may all be pointing to the same underlying pattern. They also discuss the Lady's message, what it reveals about the times we're living in, and why so many eyes are turning toward the year 2026.
The prophecy of Ishmael's twelve princes was more than a family promise—it was a foreshadowing of world history. As Islam rises as the fastest-growing religion and interfaith unity becomes a global agenda, we're watching the stage being set for something far greater. In this episode, we explore how the rise of Islam intersects with biblical prophecy, Qur'anic teachings, and the signs of the end times. From the Vatican's push for religious cooperation under the Pope's leadership to the unprecedented blending of beliefs across nations, could this be the groundwork for the one-world religion foretold in Revelation? Tune in as we uncover how ancient prophecy, Islamic eschatology, and modern headlines collide in a story few are willing to tell—but everyone needs to hear.---------------------------------------Amy is a Christian counselor - book an appointment:https://www.biblicalguidancecounseling.com/appointmentsAmy's online Bible studies:https://rumble.com/c/BibleStudywithEyesontheright?e9s=src_v1_cmd
