Sydney Skybetter sits down with performance historian Doug Eacho to discuss emergent technologies of the last century. They explore how sci-fi has influenced our expectations for the future of performance, and why these expectations almost never become reality. About Doug: Douglas Eacho is a performance historian and theater director. His current research project concerns artists and engineers who have sought to automate theatrical processes, from French surrealists, to lighting board designers, to contemporary makers of algorithmic dance. He explores the increasing integration between automaticity and theatricality on and off the stage, and the shifting ways technology performs amidst conditions of economic stagnation. Another research thread concerns the long history of statistical representation as it has intersected with naturalist and aleatory performance; this work informed his article “Serial Nostalgia: Rimini Protokoll's 100% City and the Numbers We No Longer Are” (Theatre Research International, 2018). His reviews have been published in Theatre Survey, Theatre Journal, and Theatre and Performance Design. Before his doctoral studies, his found-text performances were presented around New York City, including at the Invisible Dog, Judson Memorial Church, and the Center for Performance Research. “His Fear of a Lonely Planet,” a piece about tourism, was devised with Stanford University students in 2018. The 800hp (to the crank) 7.2L/440cu Lingenfelter Eliminator R Spec LS7 contains forged rotating assemblies, CNC-ported cylinder heads, competition-grade fasteners, precision balance procedures & hydraulic roller camshaft internally, as well as a Dailey Engineering dry sump, Performance Design intake manifold with some tuning being done to the intake runner lengths over time. With just oil changes over the last 2 seasons of racing it certainly seems to be a package that is working well for Jake in this application. The hydraulic cam profile is in its element with the 8,000rpm redline being within the comfort zone and the 14:1 compression engine runs E85 via a flex fuel setup in street form and Ignite Ready 90 on race day. Engine management is done by a GM ACDelco E92 ECU from a later model vehicle of the Cadillac CTS-V & Corvette C6 ZR1 era. While an advantage of retaining a OEM GM ECU originally was the ability to keep features like the stock ABS system, Jake has since gone the popular route of fitting an aftermarket/standalone $1200 MK60 ABS system with an off-the-shelf tune from CSL Performance and he gives us some insight into the installation and use of such an ABS system which are becoming more and more popular at club level racing despite the initial push back from the good old armchair racers we've seen over the years.

About Geoff RipGeoff Rip is the Founder and Principal Designer at Training That Works. He is a highly experienced and passionate learning professional with rich and diverse knowledge. He specialises in quality production of end to end learning, utilising social learning and technology, with a dedicated focus on increasing capability resulting in performance uplift.Key takeaways:Geoff's methodology is 'performance first', meaning it is applicable if there is a performance need that requires a learning solution that is best met with a training program. It also starts with a clear picture of successful on-the-job performance. Two key models that are part of the methodology are the Training Effectiveness Equation (Formation x Transformation = Results) and the Ready-Set-Go-Show Model.Geoff shares his Six Lenses Evaluation Model:LENS 1 is Participation, which includes Attendance and Activity and is common to many other approaches to training evaluation.LENS 2 is Perceptions, i.e. participant reactions to the learning process in the READY and SET Phases, e.g. perceptions of psychological safety.LENS 3 is Realistic Performance. If we don't move people as closely as possible to workplace performance, the chances of them actually using their new knowledge and skills is significantly diminished.LENS 4 is Recall Performance. It relates to Imperative 1 in the GO Phase and is based on research into retrieval practice. Training designs that don't incorporate retrieval practice will inevitably be followed by a steep forgetting curve.LENS 5 is Real-world Performance. This relates to Imperative 2 in the GO Phase. There are three components (or levels): Perceptions, Process and Competence or Proficiency.LENS 6 is Performance Outcomes. This includes productivity measures and financial measures/metrics. It also includes ROI (as a financial measure).Geoff recommended a storytelling technique as participants find it easy to tell stories about application. A practical guide for storytelling is SHOW - Situation, How, Outcomes, and Wisdom. We need to evaluate real-world performance, even if it's only at the level of perception, and we need to treat this performance as a learning process.Segmented time stamps:[01:37] What most learning evaluation activities miss – and how Geoff designed a model to measure competency[06:32] The three phases to Geoff's evaluation model: Ready, Set, Go, Show[11:00] Geoff's approach to learning flow over using templates[14:25] The Six Lenses Evaluation Model[34:55] Measuring ROI on select parts of a learning process, as opposed to the entire process[36:44] How to evaluate learning effectiveness by telling a story through the SHOW acronym[38:12] Geoff's key advice to improving your evaluation processLinks from the podcast Connect with Geoff on LinkedInRead Geoff's LinkedIn article on the Ready-Set-Go-Show for Effective TrainingRead Geoff's LinkedIn article based on the podcast: Six Lenses Evaluation ModelBrowse the Learning Scientists websiteDownload Geoff's Six Lenses Evaluation Model

Thursday, April 22, is the 51st anniversary of Earth Day. When Earth Day was created, the global economy was releasing just short of 15 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. By 2019, we were producing north of 35 billion metric tons. The facts are straight forward. Buildings generate 40 percent of greenhouse gas emissions, with the urban built environment accounting for 75 percent of emissions. By 2060, it's predicted we'll add another 2.5 trillion square feet of global building stock to accommodate a population of 10 billion people. All of this is at a time when NASA reported 2020 tying 2016 as the warmest year on modern record and close to 2 degrees warmer than the baseline mean from 1951-1980.To say there's an impetus to improve building performance in order to mitigate the impacts of global warming is a massive understatement. In this episode, BWBR's Jesse Turck and Tom Hanley, both architects, LEED accredited professionals, and leading advocates in sustainable design, discuss this performance imperative and how raising the sustainability baseline for building design can positively impact both the organizations who operate these facilities and the communities that are home to these spaces. James Lockwood hosts.

In this podcast recorded at the Agile 2018 conference Shane Hastie, Lead Editor for Culture & Methods, spoke to Chloë Bregman about high performance design. Why listen to this podcast: • High-performance design is design that fits with the customers needs and is successful • Design is worthless unless it is creating ROI in some way • Design is not “one thing” – there are many aspects which need to be addressed and these aspects have tension between them • All design is human experience design • We’re almost always wrong in what we think will be a good design, so a culture that is comfortable to be wrong and learn is critical for success • Ask “if we changed one thing, what possibilities could that open up for us” and make the change to see what the results are More on this: Quick scan our curated show notes on InfoQ https://bit.ly/2UxxDdj You can also subscribe to the InfoQ newsletter to receive weekly updates on the hottest topics from professional software development. bit.ly/24x3IVq Subscribe: www.youtube.com/infoq Like InfoQ on Facebook: bit.ly/2jmlyG8 Follow on Twitter: twitter.com/InfoQ Follow on LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/company/infoq Check the landing page on InfoQ: https://bit.ly/2UxxDdj

To gange om måneden udgiver vi vores nyhedsbrev, NGO Life. Tilmeld dig her.
