Is the fear of uncertainty keeping you stuck? Feeling drained or unfulfilled isn't a personal weakness. It's a sign that you're operating on outdated scripts, following paths that no longer serve you. But breaking free doesn't require a massive leap… just a tiny experiment. Today on The Bridge to Fulfillment®, Blake welcomes Anne-Laure Le Cunff. She is a neuroscientist, entrepreneur, and writer and is the founder of Ness Labs.  She explores evidence-based methods for people to make the most of their minds, navigate uncertainty, and practice lifelong learning. Her work has been featured in peer-reviewed academic journals and mainstream publications such as WIRED, Forbes, Rolling Stone, Fortune, Entrepreneur, and more. In this episode, you'll learn how to embrace uncertainty through times of transition. You'll hear how “tiny experiments” can help you break free from cognitive scripts and build self-confidence. You'll also learn how to schedule in time for curiosity and exploration so that you can start making small, incremental changes that will eventually help you achieve true personal and professional fulfillment.   What You'll Learn: Anne-Laure's personal journey through experimentation (3:12) Why we should treat struggles and burnout as signals for change (13:23) Embracing uncertainty rather than looking for answers (20:06) "Tiny experiments" to progressively build self-confidence (28:10) Focusing on learning rather than success or failure (40:10)   Favorite Quotes: "It's really about starting small and just trying to do something different, maybe something that goes against what advice you would get from friends or from your employer, and seeing that the world doesn't end." –Anne-Laure Le Cunff "It's really about progressively building that self-confidence through cycles of experimentation, instead of trying to make the big change straight away."  –Anne-Laure Le Cunff “When I began to realize that [experimentation] was the only way to get what it is that I wanted, it really helped me learn to embrace that uncertainty and to recognize that uncertainty was actually the gift.” –Blake Schofield "As long as you learn something new, that's success." –Anne-Laure Le Cunff “The things that we're experiencing are actually signs and symptoms that our life is in misalignment. They are warning signs. But because we're surrounded by other people experiencing the same thing, our brain will pattern match and say, nothing's wrong with me." –Blake Schofield   Additional Resources:  Connect with Anne-Laure Le Cunff: https://nesslabs.com/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/alecunff/ https://x.com/neuranne https://www.youtube.com/@neuranne/featured https://nesslabs.com/book  For programs and opportunities to work with Blake, go to www.BlakeSchofield.com

In this week's episode I chat with Audrey Davidheiser, licensed psychologist and Certified IFS therapist and IFSI-approved clinical consultant about working with grief and anger through the Internal Family Systems lens.  We discuss: How tenacious parts like grief and anger hold on, often because they feel they are protecting something important, like legacy or family loyalty. What can we learn by befriending these tenacious parts rather than fighting them? How your cultural background can influence your emotional experience, and how you can work with legacy burdens in your healing process Grief as a multi-dimensional experience – it's not just about sadness, but can include anger, regret, or even relief Religious Grief and Trauma – how religious trauma can exile parts of ourselves, such as those feeling grief or anger, and the need for compassionate acknowledgment of them All parts grieve differently and how to welcome all parts into the grieving process. How can understanding the different ways we grieve help us heal? Honoring angry parts – befriend anger by understanding its role in protecting something important IFS and Grief – how IFS uniquely holds space for grief   Favorite Quotes: “It's not just that everybody grieves differently, but every part of you grieves differently as well.” "Angry parts are there because they are protecting something valuable.” About Audrey Davidheiser: Audrey Davenheiser is a licensed psychologist, certified IFS therapist, and the author of the forthcoming book, Wholehearted Grieving. Today on The Bridge to Fulfillment Ⓡ, Blake welcomes Danielle to share her powerful story of perseverance. Just after joining the program, she was given some devastating news about her health that made her think about taking a step back. But after deciding to move forward and give it her all, she found an instant support network while also gaining clarity about her path forward. In this episode, you'll hear how Danielle didn't let less-than-perfect circumstances stop her from creating the change she wanted in her life. You'll hear what motivated her to push through the program, despite the health and life circumstances she was experiencing. She shares how the instant support network helped her not only gain career clarity, but also how it made her a better, more efficient time manager. You'll hear the biggest mindset shift from the program that instilled in her the confidence and self-recognition that she deserved, and how it continues to inspire her today.    What You'll Learn: What wasn't working in Danielle's life before she joined the program (4:00) Why things can feel different on the inside than they appear on the outside (7:24) What happened when she got thrown a health curveball just before starting (9:56) Why your life circumstances don't need to be perfect in order to create change (13:57) What Danielle learned about herself from the program (17:14)   Favorite Quotes: It's very easy for us to go into a guilt and shame spiral. We ‘should' be happy, we ‘should' be grateful. But that's the lie because we can be grateful and then we can also want more. -Blake If I'm getting a new lease on life, what do I want to do? Am I creating the life I want, spending time with the people I care about, and growing and becoming the person I want to be? That was my takeaway from the program. -Danielle We can get into a black-and-white perspective about needing it to be the perfect time or having the perfect circumstances, or needing to do everything perfectly to be successful. And that's the lie. -Blake I feel like we're all driven to do what we need to do. But sometimes you just need that extra push of accountability to stay on the path. And I think the duration of the program really helps with that because you finally have built the habits, and then you're accountable for them every week. -Danielle  I have figured my way out of every situation. So regardless of what happens, the good and the bad, I'll figure it out. And I think that has been the biggest mindset shift from the program.-Danielle   Additional Resources:  Rather than hoping the grass will be greener, identify what the RIGHT next step is. Do you worry that you don't have a special talent or skill set that's unique to you?    It's more common than you know for women to sell ourselves short when it comes to recognizing our own unique gifts and talents. We tend to focus on worrying about whether we're good enough, or worse, convincing ourselves that we don't have a unique skill or talent at all.   Today on The Bridge to Fulfillment, Blake unpacks the definition of “secret sauce”, helping you to recognize the natural gifts that you're likely overlooking. If you're trapped in the lie of questioning whether or not you have a unique set of skills, then it's time to conquer the limiting beliefs that are holding you back.    In this episode, you'll learn how to identify your unique secret sauce transferable skills. You'll hear why it's so common, especially for high-achievers, to hold onto the false beliefs that you're not good enough or that you have nothing special to bring to the table. Everyone has a secret sauce. So, if you're ready to find clarity and start to uncover what makes you unique, then this episode is for you.    What You'll Learn: What “secret sauce skills” means (1:27) How to conquer your limiting beliefs about yourself (2:47) Why you should never give up the search to find your path (4:00) How you can start to find clarity and identify your unique talents (5:31)   Favorite Quotes: It is impossible that you don't have a secret sauce. Every single person does. The most common belief that high achievers have is that ‘I'm not good enough'. So if you're experiencing this, I want you to know that it's normal, but it doesn't mean it's true.  I've worked with so many people who felt like they were doing all of these things, trying to figure out what the right path is, but there was always this unsettled feeling that there was something else. If you are worried that you might not be that talented, or maybe you don't really have secret sauce transferable skills, or you're not really that unique or special, that is just a lie we get trapped in.    Additional Resources:    Rather than hoping the grass will be greener, identify what the RIGHT next step is.  We can help you do just that.    Get clarity on where you are on your journey to career fulfillment, where you're headed, optional paths to get there, and the right next step to take.   Start your complimentary, Personalized Career Fulfillment Plan by going to www.thebridgetofulfillment.com/plan   Want free resources to set your job search up for success? What is the Wonderland Trail? Today we sit down and chat with Constantine and Magpie about all the wonders of the Wonderland Trail. No irony is needed nor sarcasm sassed when we indeed say it is wonderful. We begin the show by instantly diving into a tangent, but then of course we use the upmost elegance and smooth tones to begin the multi-minute transition away from pure power into permits. We discuss all things Wonderland Permits. The use of Recreation.Gov to book ahead of time, the chance of walk up permits, luck of the draw with certain campsites, a "secret" way to hike without permits (NOTE: it is NOT saying don't use a permit, instead it mentions how to create an intense itinerary to avoid the permitted campsites). We discuss circles and how just because it is a circle does not mean it is easy. As the saying goes, "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice... well you aren't going to fool me again!" We shall not be fooled again, third time is the charm. Circles do not equate to easy. We discuss how to define beauty when literally 80% of the entire hike is gorgeous. We discuss the obstacles of the Wonderland Trail, including the Mowich River, the steep elevation gain and descent daily, snow travel, river crossings, suspension bridges, and most importantly injury prevention. We dive deep into this thought line as Magpie called the hike Day 3, no longer being able to safely continue forward without causing serious injury. When hiking with a romantic partner, friend, hiking buddy, comrade, trail family, whoever you may be hiking with, it is important to have these types of conversation beforehand. The conversations of "What If?" Nothing is more important than the safety of those around you while hiking. It is an immense privilege to be able to share in the happiness, love and togetherness of a trail, and also a responsibility. When hiking with others make a plan, read the situation, and act accordingly. We chat rookie mistakes, disappearing socks, thermal persuasion, finger-hills not being hills, and the constant curse of having piping plover legs. We chat hamburger feet, bridges that are not bridges, marmot smooching, pika picking, and beaver cuddling. We discuss the difference of being in thru-hiking shape and just "regular shape." We chat all things HYOH (do not even like writing out the term much less saying it... but we find ourselves in this tangent and have to unpack our feelings and then quickly tangent away before our emotions overheat). On our ramen rating review scale this hike gets a 4.5 out of 5 ramens. A mix between Roast Chicken and Creamy Chicken. Most importantly we: "Study Xyscience while being Rowdy and talking to Yerbae." Truly a wonderful trail, highly recommend the Wonderland Trail. FAVORITE QUOTES: "It is a privilege and responsibility when sharing the trail with others." "French kiss a marmot." (DISCLAIMER: DO NOT!) "The more we hike the less we know what we are doing." "I looked at my wrist for the time again... still don't have a watch." The Bridge to Fulfillment

Play Episode Listen Later May 12, 2022 9:11

When we start along our path to success, what message does each piece of our career puzzle convey about us?   And most importantly, where does it lead us?   If you lack understanding about what's necessary to create the success you desire or you're unclear about what true success really would look like for you, then it's time to stop what you're doing and learn how to define success on your own terms.   Today, Blake shares powerful insights about how you can create change and find more fulfilling work. If you're ready to create life on your terms and defy what's normal, a career coach can help you create an extraordinary life that's built around your definition of success.   In this episode, you'll learn what many people fail to understand when embarking upon a career change and why they often don't end up finding what they truly want. She shares the wisdom of Dr. Jeff Spencer and the key phrase that helped her understand how to deviate from the “norm.”   It's time to rise up and get clear on what you want out of life and take empowered action to bring it to fruition.   What You'll Learn: What most people miss in their search for success (0:38) Are you running a race you don't want to be in? (1:57) What you need to realize if you want to pursue change (3:48) What it means to defy normal (5:16) How most women are going through the motions of their lives (6:24)   Favorite Quotes: It isn't a lack of desire to achieve; it's a fundamental misunderstanding of what's necessary to create the success you desire. Most of the conventional wisdom is wrong if you truly want to live a life of fulfillment, peace, joy, and impact. If you do what everyone else does, you'll end up with the results that everyone else has. You don't lead an extraordinary life by doing what everyone else does.  It's time to rise up and get clear on what we want out of life and then take empowered action to bring it to fruition. Things will only change when we do. He has a Ph.D., two Masters degrees from MIT, and a Bachelors degree from Yale University. In this episode, we discuss his new book, Think for Yourself: Restoring Common Sense in an Age of Experts and Artificial Intelligence. He explains when to rely on experts for help, the importance of focus in today's age, the downside of being constantly overwhelmed with options, and why being a generalist or taking a generalist approach to problem solving may be favorable to relying on experts. He also touches on some of the interesting stories from his book, including how Phil Jackson applied these principles during his coaching career and why President Abraham Lincoln built his cabinet with people who all disagreed with each other. So non-functional tissue taking up mass in the body that has weight to it can be undigested or poorly digested food that then becomes a waste product as opposed to a functional tissue in the body. Even if we look at fat tissue, what’s the functional amount of fat tissue in the body, according to the textbook of Ayurveda, written by Dr. Visant Lad, it’s two handfuls! Two anjali.” - Cate Stillman “When the nerves are relaxed the bowels start to be able to let go, so instead of being constipated or contracted what happens is the body is more able to release waste.” - Cate Stillman “Life is rhythmic, there is a rhythm to things. There’s a rhythm to digestion, there’s a rhythm to absorption, there’s a rhythm to feeding, there’s a rhythm to fasting. And this starts to build a deep sense of trust in the person with their body. They start to be able to actually trust and on a very deep level love, on a cellular level feel that the essence of consciousness is loved, and love their body again.” - Cate Stillman  “For the Vata person it means a few times a day they’re going to lay down and put their hands on their belly and relax. That will actually accelerate (weight loss). It means for the Kapha person even skipping a meal at night now and then, just having tea or having broth at night, that’s going to take the weight off a lot faster. For the Pitta person to wind down and let themself adjust to efficiencies the more they do that the faster the excess will come off and the more they’ll naturally find their best weight.” - Cate Stillman

Favorite Quotes: “It’s discriminating in nature. It’s separating the wheat from the chaff. It’s separating the truth from the BS. That’s the natural power of Pitta in the mind.” - Cate Stillman “In the paradox is the healing. One of the paradoxes of Pitta in the mind is to have compassion, to actually soften and try to see with empathy all sides of the situation. For a lot of Pitta types this can be the hardest work.” - Cate Stillman “So in terms of digestion, this is one of the easiest ways to identify if you have more Pitta. You’ll tend to have a stronger appetite, you’ll tend to be able to eat more frequently than other people. The whole ‘hangry’ word for people who get angry when they’re hungry, that’s more a Pitta type.” - Cate Stillman  “Because they’re such hyper-metabilzers if they eat a high carb diet they’re body is going to burn through everything really quickly. Having a substantial meal in the middle of the day that’s higher in protein and higher in fat can really help a Pitta person.” - Cate Stillman “Pitta’s have to learn how to turn off. Because their mind is so strong they have a desire to go and go and go. Developing a strong discipline to not working after the sun goes down can be a phenomenal lifestyle change for Pitta; to actually unplug. The time between 6:00pm and 10:00pm, that’s the time of Kapha. That’s the time of earthy watery energy. It’s the time of connecting and being with our people and relaxing, enjoying, reflecting on the day. A Pitta type with a Pitta imbalance will tend to burn the candle at both ends and keep working after dinner, checking email, multitasking, getting everything done before going to bed, and that leads to a Pitta imbalance. They’re violating the rhythm of rejuvenation.” - Cate Stillman

We have to understand what it means to be an entrepreneur.” - John Yax  “I strongly believe yoga is for everyone. But I can't be for everyone, our studios are not for everybody, the way I teach yoga is not for everybody. It's for a specific ‘who'. The challenge is to figure out who that ‘who' is.” - John Yax “A lot of what I've seen in studios is that they don't grow. They might hit a sustainable revenue that can kinda support a lifestyle business but not one that is growing, with an increased profit margin over time. For most entrepreneurs, you're looking to grow with an increased profit margin over time, which usually entails strategy and innovation.” - Cate Stillman   Guest BIO: John and Chris grew up in a small house with a big family. The word witness is a key word in the bible, and the theme of “witnessing” is a key theme in the bible that can be used to understand the whole story of the bible.Key TakeawaysThe word witness is a key word in the bible, and the theme of “witnessing” is a key theme in the bible that can be used to understand the whole story of the bible. The greek word μάρτυς (mártus) is used in the New Testament as the word for “witness” it is also the root word for ”martyr:”The word witness is used in a variety of different ways throughout the Bible. For example, God is described as being a witness. Israel is called to be a witness to the nations and Jesus says he is a witness about himself.Favorite Quotes“It’s weird how simple and how big of a responsibility being a witness is. God wants a group of witnesses who experience him and then talk about it.”Show NotesIn part 1, (0-7:45) Tim and Jon introduce the topic and also introduce Carissa Quinn a biblical scholar on staff with the bible project. Carisa is responsible for researching and writing the script for the upcoming video on witness. The group talks about the popular usages of the word witness. Jon toes that in a Christian context, “witness” is often meant to be an activity that someone will do to try and logically convince or debate somebody (a non believer) about Jesus and the truth of the bible. The group also notes that oftentimes ‘witness’ is best understood in a modern legal context. In part 2, (7:45-16:50) Carissa says the word witness occurs over 400 hundred times in the bible in a variety of forms. In hebrew the word ‘witness’ is basically (1) someone who sees something amazing or important--in Hebrew, this person is an עֵד (eid) and in Greek, a μάρτυς (mártus). And (2) if this person begins to share what they’ve seen, we call this ‘bearing witness’: in Hebrew עוּד (uwd) and in Greek μαρτυρέω (marturéo).Carissa shares the story of Ruth in Ruth 4:9, when Boaz buys land from Naomi’s family, he calls together witnesses to see the transaction, so that if there’s a later dispute about the land, they can bear witness about what they saw. Tim notes that this passage is somewhat related to Deut 25:9 a law about sandals and witnessing being used as a form of legal documentation. The group briefly discusses the role of a public notary in modern culture. They act as official witnesses to legal signings. In part 3, (16:50-24:50) Carissa goes to Psalm 27 and the theme of “false witnesses”. Carissa notes that God is referred to as a witness throughout the bible. For example in Genesis 31:49 ... “May the Lord watch between you and me when we are absent one from the other. 50 If you mistreat my daughters, or if you take wives besides my daughters, although no man is with us, see, God is witness between you and me.”In the New Testament God the Father is said to bear witness to the identity of Jesus. Jesus also says he bears witness to himself in John 8:17-18 “In your Law it is written that the testimony of two people is true. 18 I am the one who bears witness about myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness about me.”Carissa then notes that many times Paul uses a phrase like “God is my witness” for example in Romans 1:9 “For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you 10 always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God's will I may now at last succeed in coming to you.”In part 4 (24:50-42:45)Carissa continues the conversation by bringing up the fact that an object can be a witness in the bible. For example in Joshua 24: 27 And Joshua said to all the people, “Behold, this stone shall be a witness against us, for it has heard all the words of the Lord that he spoke to us. Therefore it shall be a witness against you, lest you deal falsely with your God.”Carissa then notes that the word “witness” in the bible can be used to trace the whole story of the bible. Tim says that the word “witness” is an interesting way to think about the image of god. People are created in God’s image to “witness” god and his creation to the rest of the world.Carissa says that israel is called to be a witness to the other nations in Exodus 19:4-6 “ ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself. 5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; 6 and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”Carissa says that later in the bible the torah is referred to as a “witness” and is often called “the laws of the testimony”. Meaning the laws are testifying or witnessing the relationship between god and israel. Additionally, Moses writes a song in Deuteronomy 32 to bear witness to Israel about God.Carissa points out that in John 5, Jesus says the Torah points to him in John 5:39 “You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me.”In part 5 (42:45-49:20)Carissa notes the theme of the word witness in the prophets. For example 2 Chronicles 24:19 "Yet he sent prophets among them to bring them back to the Lord. These testified (witnessed) against them, but they would not pay attention.Carissa notes that to testify against or to witness against was one of the primary roles of prophets in the Old Testament. They were warning/ witnessing to Israel about what would happen to them if they didn’t follow god.Carissa also notes that Isiah 43:10-12 is a crucial passage to understand the role that the whole nation of Israel was to have in acting as God's witnesses.Isaiah 42:10 ““You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe meand understand that I am he.Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me.11I, I am the Lord, and besides me there is no savior.12I declared and saved and proclaimed, when there was no strange god among you;and you are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “and I am God.In the last part, (49:20-end)Carissa talks about Jesus. Jesus claims to be the “chief witness” from Isaiah 61. He was sent to open the eyes of Israel who are the blind witnesses to God and his creation. Tim notes how ironic it is that Jesus is the ultimate witness bearing witness to God's kingdom that gets him killed. Carissa note that the word “μάρτυς (mártus).” is the greek word for witness which is also the root word for martyr. So Jesus was a martus, and a martyr by staking his life on what he believes in.In Acts followers of Jesus are called to be “witnesses”. But often times in the New Testament being a witness is directly connected to verifying or believing in the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.Jon notes that witness in modern context is usually more about debating ore rationalizing Jesus and Christianity to a secular world. Carissa notes that to “bear witness” is a sign of someone's character. Jon then notes that thinking about being a witness in life is actually a really important calling or job. A witness has an important role to play and “bearing witness” is what we are called to do as christians. Not to debate or convince people about the truth of Jesus but to share are own powerful moments of God in our lives.Show Resources:Walter Kaiser, Mission in the Old Testament: Israel as a Light to the NationsShow Music Discover by C Y G NFills the Skies: Josh WhiteBlue Skies: Unwritten StoriesAnalogs: MobyThe Truth About Flight Love and BB Guns: Beautiful EulogyShow Produced by:Dan GummelPowered and distributed by Simplecast.

Today I have the pleasure of speaking with spiritual guru and Founder of the Wise Earth School of Ayurveda, Maya Tiwari. Our conversation takes us into the realm of cyclical wisdom vs. linear thought. How do we allow our intuition to move us back into a place of deep awareness, connecting us to our Shakti, our creative selves, and our consciousness once again. In order to reclaim this wholesome, cyclical nature of ourselves we need to simplify our lives and look to nature to source our energy and power. Tune in today and for a truly unique and grounding podcast and learn about the importance of life cycles and rebirthing your creativity.   What you’ll get out of tuning in: Why is reclaiming our cyclical wisdom so important to our physiology, our consciousness, our awareness How to we move back towards the knowledge of nature and what serves us Cutting out stressors we’ve acquired and simplifying our lives   Links Mentioned in Episode: Maya's website Maya Tiwari’s book- Food for One, Food for all Be a coach Have a conversation Discover more about Body Thrive  Body Thrive Book   Show Highlights: 1:30- Maya Tiwari tells us a bit about her life and how she arrived to where she presently resides, physically, mentally, and spiritually. We discuss the importance of phases and cycles of life and how to allow a cyclicial wisdom back into our consciousness and our physiology. 23:00 - The medicine of Mother Nature and its relation to simplifying our lives. To be simply creative again by delayering ourselves, we sometimes have to take a step to clarify who we are now and continue to grow. 38:00- The meaning and significance of the moon and its’ connection to women’s monthly cycle; there are certain activities that are in the dark phase of the moon that allow us, as women, to recreate the sanctity that we need within ourselves. We should ask ourselves, ‘what can we orient towards’ instead of ‘what do we have to give up’? 55:40- I ask Mother Maya about her experience in writing books and how her own creative cycle matures; how does she know when it is time to write and when it is time to edit?   Favorite Quotes: “It’s not about going out and getting something new; it’s more about reawakening what is already within us.” - Cate Stillman “We can’t create without calling upon our Shakti. And when we create we enlarge her, we grow her, we mature her. “ - Maya Tiwari “There has always been an amazing universal truth to everything we do. There is a time and a place for everything. And that is what we ignore in a linear culture.”  - Maya Tiwari   Guest BIO: Maya established the Wise Earth School of Ayurveda in 1981, with the vision of restoring the long lost Inner Medicine® principles and practices of Ayurveda. Wise Earth is the first school for Ayurveda education in North America, through which Maya has personally trained hundreds of practitioners from a vast geographical area. In 2010, Maya made the radical decision to renounce her monastic title and spiritual moniker-Her Holiness, Sri Swami Mayatitananda. How to Slow Down to Speed Up with Yoga Nidra with Rod Stryker (Part 2)

On today’s show, Rod Stryker and I continue our conversation on the deeply healing and transformative practice of Yoga Nidra. Yoga Nidra essentially translates to the ‘end of all thoughts’ because it is a process in which we learn to let go, to relax and restore, to diffuse our awareness, and to just BE. We’ve created a world where we are always doing something; with our Iphones and tablets constantly by our sides and work or life stressors always on our minds, we are continually thinking, working, or moving. We are hardly ever still, and we are never bored anymore! With a lack of daydreaming or boredom, we are unable to fully process and digest our emotions or experiences, and in turn we unable to know our true selves. If we don’t allow ourselves the time and space to dissolve, to daydream and to relax, even the simplest of tasks will become very difficult for us to accomplish. Life isn’t about learning to cope, to mitigate, or to be only partly insane….it’s about Thriving. Listen in and learn how to live a life of Thrive with this timeless practice of Yoga Nidra.     What you’ll get out of tuning in: Why are Deep Rejuvenation, boredom and daydreaming so important? How do we avoid going to sleep while we’re awake? What is America’s number one health crisis and why is this cause for serious concern?   Links Mentioned in Episode: Rod’s website Rod’s facebook page Yoga Nidra Meditation app- Sanctuary with Rod Stryker Stealing Fire by Steven Kotler and Jamie Wheal Yoga Health Coaching Have a conversation   Show Highlights: 1:08- Rod talks about the final of the 4 stages of Yoga Nidra. Spirituality, as well as the 4 fundamental stages of Nidra. 6:00- What does a lack of daydreaming and boredom do to us physiologically? If we don’t get bored, we don’t process who we are in time and space. Who am I? What do I stand for? What do I want to do on this planet in this life? In our fast-paced, technological world, we do not allow space for boredom and we are therefore unable to answer these important questions. 13:30- The state of expanded awareness that comes from Yoga Nidra, ie. Flow state, biohacking, and maximizing cognitive function. How do we avoid habitual thinking and how to we avoid going to sleep while we’re awake? 20:50- We can no longer afford to not be passionate about finding what is true, what is real, and what is truly important. Learn to tune into yourself with Yoga Nidra, to learn to not push against what the body and mind desires, to drop into yourself and allow. Insomnia is currently the biggest health crisis. If you continue to push your nervous system too much for too long, there will be repercussions.   Favorite Quotes: “It’s about allowing these awareness breaks, instead of coffee breaks.” -Cate Stillman   “You are the presence that exists in your own heart.” -Rod Stryker “We need times with no-thing.” -Cate Stillman “You’ve got to root to rise, you’ve got to get down to get up.” -Cate Stillman “Our problems have now gotten bigger. There is a bigger price to pay for the misalignment with the authentic self.” -Rod Stryker   Guest BIO: Yogarupa Rod Stryker is a world-renowned yoga and meditation teacher, guiding and sharing his wisdom for 40 years. Focusing on the Cleanse Beneath the Weight Loss

In the chaotic and stimulating modern age, we often find ourselves living in our minds rather than our bodies. This can lead us to getting out of sync with the habits that allow us to thrive. Richard Hudak began his detox journey with Yogidetox in the fall of 2010, and has regularly returned to the practice seasonally ever since. When he began this transformation, he was 45 lbs heavier and out of tune with his body. The Yogidetox program has provided him with a support community that has guided him through a powerful mental and physical transformation. Richard and Jessica talk about how people may feel resistant when it comes to starting such a detox program. Overcoming this resistance is critical, whether it be with a support buddy or due to a sudden change in mindset. Richard’s personal journey involved getting more in touch with his physical activity needs by practicing cycling regularly. He found himself in 100k races not for the competition, but for the satisfaction of doing it for himself. As the weight fell off and his health habits improved, Richard found his body naturally pulling him into the seasonal detoxes. With a better connection between his mind and body, Richard has been able to transform his mental and physical well-being. Learn how you can do the same for yourself with Yogidetox! What you’ll get out of tuning in: How to achieve weight loss through detoxing Why support is necessary when cleansing Why regular detoxing is so powerful Links Mentioned in the Episode: Body Thrive Book YogiDetox Webpage Body Thrive Course Webpage Liminal Thinking website Buy the Liminal Thinking book Farmhouse Cultures Gut Shots Preorder Atomic Habits by James Clear Ayurvedic Spring Detox and the Doshas with Alex Biondo Intermittent Fasting, Detoxing And The Ayurvedic Clock Living a Detoxed Life with Kim Constable Show Highlights: 6:40 - In a detox experience, we want to avoid focusing on weight loss too much because it is such a narrow goal. We want to instead focus on the long-term habits we can instill in ourselves. 11:20 - While Yogidetox may seem like an individual experience, it actually is strongly based on the online support community. Once people step into the process and the forums, they recognize themselves as people that are contributing to a group traversing similar health journeys. 15:45 - People have resistance when it comes to beginning things such as yoga or starting cleanses. Ensuring accountability buddies to join with you or even to simply provide support leads to more probably success. 23:55 - Richard describes how after regular detoxing, his body has a sense for the seasonal change and a desire for the detox. By accustoming our bodies to these cleansing periods, we can naturally feel our bodies pull us into seasonal detoxing. 25:50 All of us have a tendency to live more in our heads. With all the stimulus and rushing in a modern world, these cleanses allow us to live more in tune with our bodies.  Favorite Quotes: “It involves taking ownership of yourself - where you are and where you want to be. “ - Jessica Graham Robinson “ Its me coming into something that I clearly have enjoyed and being better that.” - Richard Hudak “Sound mind, sound body.” - Richard Hudak “Adding in the Yogidetox was another layer, another piece, another supportive practice.” - Richard Hudak “I got this! The meal will return! I will nourish myself when the time is right.” - Richard Hudak   Guest BIO: Richard Hudak "Talking about yogidetox" My first one was fall of 2010. Also done other detoxes with other practitioners other than Kate. We all had transformational experiences. Getting better at listening and doing what our bodies want. This has been a really big journey for you. Physical journey as well. 2:30 - I started practicing yoga at the end of 2005, certainly began a transformation. Doing the detox was complimentar to that. Trimming down, but wasn’t losing weight. Adding muscle, but adding in the yogidetox was another layer, andother, piece, andother supportive practice.” This spring was another deeper spiral in, and for me it kind of propelled me back into my love of road bycyling. Used lightness to do this. 100k charity ride. Athletic events, not competitive, but this is a different side of me I am experiencing. 4:40 - Big shifts in what he wants to do with cycling.Teacher says to think of ourselves as athletes. Schedules supportive practices for yourselves. 25 years ago it was commuting. But to reengage that. “ Its me coming into something that I clearly have enjoyed and being better that.” 6:40 - dont want to focus on weight too much. Kate would say don’t get on the scale. That’s not what this is about. That is a narrow goal. The way that people respond to him. I went from like 215 to like 185. There were some yoga friends that said, you are half the many you were. 8:50 - giant billboard, have people joined because of you. 9:10 - it is so interesting to face resistances face to face.  I had reasons not to do this at the start. Got it from yoga students and friends and also resistance. I hope I don’t make it sounds like a bigger deal than it is. I very often find that people are looking for a one size-fits-all solution.” Tell me what to do. Still have to inhabit a wellness model. 10:45 - This is a very on your own detox. Involves taking ownership of yourself, where you are and where you want to be. “ 11:20 - once people step into the process and the forums, then people recongnize themselves as people that are contributing to the community. Once you are embraced, I’ve found someone who is experiencing the same things as you. I’ve got a craving, I had an energy bar. Hearing the “it happens” makes you feel so much better. 12:50 - there are so many people on the team. Was one of the reasons you did not join because of the idea of being in a group turns them off from it. It can feel very intimidating, it is just a hang up, it is in your own mind. 13:45 - people explain in my yoga classes that going to actual classes helps because of seeing what others do and getting alignment cues from the teacher really make the difference. 14:30 - I think we are an individualistic culture, but also a nation of joiners. Social media is effecting that. Social medica gives us the allusion that we are connected when we are really not. Typically the yogidetox, friends that I have never met in person. 15:45 - people have resistence, and the same type i had when initially attending yoga workshops. Totally worth the investment. Same is true as the detox. Get in as an early bird. You have accountablity buddies if you join with other people. I notice with yoga students. Regular attendees come with buddies. It insulates the merging with other people. 17:30 - Initially for me, where is Cate. She's so far. I have learn so much and i've gained so many tools. It enhances my day job. Sometimes i'm teaching four classes in a row, and sometimes large classes of students an dusing my voice all day long. Drinking lemon water all day allows me to support that. Taking space and quiet time. Consciously eating meals. Gives me some pause in the middle of my hectic day. 19:00- I have not done bodythrive. Has the book right here on my desk. Use it during the yogidetox. 19:45 - so at one plateau 30 lbs lost, and since the beginning 45 lbs. Its always more than that. That's the physical piece. You're choosing to do different things with your body. Emotionally or mentally or a subtle way, what can you say about those shifts that you've made. 20:50 - But don’t panic. I feel that is a somatic experience. Okay, I am going to work with my mind and be calm. When I first started to practice yoga. Don’t panic I got this. Trying not to snack in the middle of the day. Intermittent fasting, got this feeling like - “I got this! The meal will return! I will nourish myself when the time is right.” 22:30 - This is somatic, bodily experience too. For me, that's been important. Being an academic and a lot in the mind, it has been important to reinhabit the body. In my teaching philsophy, latin phrase “Sound mind, sound body.” The emotional experience. 23:55 - I feel myself pulled into each seasonal cleanse. Like checking my watch, sensing the change in the season, and saying its time. I fell myself naturally pulled into each seasonal cleanse. 24:35 It is habitual, but you are able to listen more deeply and you are able to hear what your body is really asking for. 25:00 A sensing into nature. Spring can break early or late, fall is more consistent. Seems always right. I start looking at the calendar and the email. Yogidetox is coming up again! The body leads the mind there. Habitual practice. 25:50 Living more within and from you body. All of us have a tendency to live more in our heads. So much stimulus and rushing, those are so valuable in everyday life. 26:25 - I get in the car and don't turn on the radio. This is what I do when i cleanse. I don’t turn the radio on right away as a matter of habit. Drive in peace. Imagining hell be listening to some of the calls in the car. Its a treasure.   What is the next evolution of Richard   27:45 Habit and routine. When am I gonna have all the time to do this? It fits in by becoming habit. Scrape my tongue, start the hot water. However, I am a person that can get stuck in other kinds of routines that don’t serve.  Where I am coming to the community, how do I deal with the discrepancy between the routines that serve and those that do not. Where does that pattern take you to? 29:40 - doing these seasonal cleanses, you've got the whole body thrive mindset. You're in that place. Habits. As we adopt these new habits and line up with nature a lot of these other things fall into place naturally. Once you find those, its not like you have to cram it in. something else must have fallen away, some things are deeply ingrained habits that we have to more consciously disentangle myself from emotional eating. Patterns of media consumption. How do i stay connected and informed enough, how do I also not let that go. 32:45 One of the things that has always impressed me about yoga teachers is that they are also students. Those are also students of other teachers. We go deeper or more subtle, we forget and remember. Seasonal cycle of entering the stream with the community. Its always in a supportive way.

When we commit to a detox or a cleanse program - we often want to set strict boundaries and push ourselves to the limit. This can not only increase our risk of failure - but also decrease the chance that the effects of the detox last past its conclusion.  Lynne describes her struggle with the tendency to “Stop, Drop, and Detox.” She explains how her perspective on the detox experience changed during her multiple experiences in the YogiDetox program and what she has learned. Jessica and Lynne discuss how the YogiDetox program encourages easing into and out of a detox. This way, it feels less strict and it is less likely that we struggle with not returning to our old habits. Lynne emphasizes the importance of the online forum in finding support in our health and personal growth journeys - especially when we lack similarly thinking people in our day-to-day lives. The detox experience isn’t meant to be a temporary form of existence - its meant to change our lifestyles even after we exit it’s defined boundaries.   Link's mentioned in the episode: Body Thrive Book  YogiDetox Webpage Body Thrive Course Webpage Ayurvedic Spring Detox And The Doshas With Alex Biondo Intermittent Fasting, Detoxing And The Ayurvedic Clock Show Highlights: 2:20 - The YogiDetox program is a powerful guide when it comes to preparing for a detox.  It doesn’t matter who you are or your individual circumstances because you can design it to fit your life. 7:50 It is more effective when we ease into and out of a detox. YogiDetox is not meant as a quick cleanse, but rather as a method of setting yourself up for constant evolution as you enter the new season. 12:00 - Not everyone is fortunate enough to have friends or family focused on living healthy lives.
