Podcast Intro: Sometimes, we ask ourselves what went wrong when everything didn't go according to plan, especially if we did everything in our power. We wonder what should be improved to become better. What strategies should we do to bring more clients? Christina Sjoberg has been struggling to bring new members to her group despite her doing talks and networking. She believes she's sabotaging her success.  In this episode, Cate Stillman is here with Christina Sjoberg to talk about generating more leads through talks. They will be talking about how to improve the talks and other alternative strategies you can do to bring more leads. What you'll get out of tuning in: prioritizing all the things - while still remaining at ease! bringing on new clients - shadow issues, confidence, etc. self-sabotage and not acting on what I should I am leading members of my group through their third quarter and we have really come together as a community where members share and support each other. This is working really well and people are experiencing amazing changes. This has helped my confidence in leading a group through the habits. I continue to struggle with bringing on new members (I only have 6 people in my current group). I am leading talks and consistently networking, but still can't seem to engage enough people for a consultation. Everyone I have brought on so far is people I have known for many years. I also find that I have competing priorities between my corporate yoga business and freelance consulting work. I have made the decision to not take on any more consulting work, but even with this extra time, I struggle with determining what activities will make the best use of my time to bring on clients, while also catching up on my YHC course, and supporting my group members. I've done the master of your courses in the past, and while helpful initially, I seem to lose momentum in the activation of what I've planned. I know I have shadow issues around money (particularly selling) and also stepping into my role as a coach. How do I overcome this so I quit sabotaging my own success? My pattern is a tendency to lurk and so I haven't been actively asking questions during the live calls when I probably would benefit - so even setting up this coaching gym is out of my comfort zone! Identifying Ayurvedic imbalances can be tricky, especially when it comes to the issue of weight gain. When we think of weight gain, we think of kapha dosha: heavy and cohesive. But when the underlying cause of weight gain is anxiety, we must look to pacify vata dosha. Listen in to this short conversation as Cate and Grace unravel the subtleties of vata masquerading as kapha by discussing Grace's recent experience with a vata imbalance.   What you'll get out of tuning in: How to determine whether weight gain is caused by a kapha imbalance or a vata imbalance. In this episode, Cate coaches Kelly Gardner through designing an annual pass that capitalizes on the wealth of knowledge and skills she already possesses. Kelly Gardner is "certifiable." She's a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Certified Yoga Therapist, a yoga teacher trainer, and a Yoga Health Coach. Kelly excels in building, analyzing, and refining systems, and she wants to learn how to build and offer signature courses. She's currently coaching the third round of her 12-week yoga health coaching course and is getting ready to launch her annual pass. For a Yoga Health Coach, the annual pass is the ticket to a good lifestyle. Offering multiple courses means more work for the coach. More is not better. In fact, more is worse. The key is to roll what you already know into your annual pass that so you only need to market and enroll for one course - your signature annual pass. To simplify things even more, you only need to design first next quarter. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Communications and a Master's degree in Education. Amanda is a 200 hour certified Yoga Instructor and has traveled to India, Costa Rica, and Greece to study Ayurveda, health and longevity, herbal medicine, and culture. While health care in the United States is starting to offer more wellness-based services and alternative healing modalities, the delivery is hit or miss and far less meaningful than the work we do as yoga health coaches. With the implementation of new laws and fear of malpractice, nurses have lost touch with what their scope of practice encompasses. It encompasses teaching and educating the public.  Nurses CAN discuss diet, lifestyle, supplements and medication. So nurses can educate in line with what we learn in Yoga Health Coaching. For nurses, Yoga Health Coaching is a fulfilling return to the reason why they got into nursing in the first place. The importance of working with this niche population centers around the potentially fatal consequences of airline staff who are often sleep deprived and living an unhealthy lifestyle that is out of sync with their circadian rhythms. Self Limiting Behavior: How Vatas, Pittas and Kaphas Isolate and Slow Their Evolution

In this Changemaker Challenge episode, Cate and Grace discuss the ways the doshas affect our self-limiting behaviors and how we can use our natural tendencies as assets. Vatas are very sensitive and naturally self-isolate in their own insecurity. They get excited about things but often change direction. Coaches and course members need to let vatas know that they are valued members of the group. Coaches also need to teach vatas how to recognize when they start to withdraw and self-isolate so that they can pivot and lean in to the group. Pittas are fiery. They're mentally sharp but can be critical and irritable know-it-alls. They struggle with "beginner's mind." Because they're so in their heads, they can lose connection with their hearts and with the group. If coaches can help pittas can come to terms with the fact that while they might know a lot about something, they probably don't know a lot about everything, they can start to pivot and lean into the group. Kaphas are stable and compassionate. They're loyal, bonded, and loving, but can be stuck in their comfort zone. They resist change and can be complacent. But if kaphas can spark their desire and get themselves into a group that is going in the direction of what they want to experience next, it becomes easy for them. We all have one of these tendencies. No one is exempt. In this Changemaker Challenge episode, Carly Banks "gets naked" with newly certified yoga health coach, Kelly Gardner. Before Yoga Health Coaching, Kelly Gardner was teaching A LOT of yoga. She is also a licensed professional counselor offering mental health counseling and yoga therapy. She is gradually replacing time spent in those pursuits with Yoga Health Coaching, including offering her course both online and in clinical settings, working with people who are ready to move forward. Through the habits of vedic tradition, she's offering her groups fundamental techniques for self healing when they need it most, emphasizing how healing the body can help heal the mind. In this Changemaker Challenge Career Clarity Session, Carly Banks sits down with Yoga Health Coach and Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor Nicole Matthiesen. Six years ago, Nicole was working long hours and not taking very good care of herself. She ended up getting sick and was diagnosed with IBS. Western medicine provided her with no relief, so she started looking for alternative treatments and found ayurveda. Ayurveda healed not only her IBS, but other things as well, including seasonal allergies, rashes, anxiety, depression, and PMS. The impact was so profound, she knew she had to share it with others, and she started studying to be an ayurvedic wellness counselor. While working for world-renowned Vedic teacher Acharya Shunya, Nicole encountered Cate Stillman, who sent them her book, Body Thrive. Nicole learned that, in contrast to the teachers she was currently working with, Cate took a very mainstream approach to ayurveda without losing the spiritual aspect of it. We discuss our egos and how they have a tendency to bring us down with the 4 D's of defense, distraction, discounting, and denial.  We discuss taking action and standing up to ourselves by making connections with our peers and forming strong and honest bonds. By forming peer groups we have a better ability to overcome our negative thoughts and habits. We gently nudge our egos out of the way in order to stay on our true paths towards connection and growth. In listening to the feedback our peers give us, we are able to build trust and gain confidence in ourselves and grow at a rapid rate, breaking through our glass ceilings. In this Changemaker Challenge episode, Cate and Grace discuss tribe growth: How to Take Your Tribe from Zero to Hero. Cate is an expert at building and nurturing a tribe. For wellness pros, a tribe is the community of people we are working with: clients, students, members, participants, etc. It's becoming more common for wellness pros to adopt a community membership model, but they sometimes fall short of enrollment expectations. There's a skill to creating an infrastructure that facilitates growth and transformation through interconnectivity. People want to belong. They want a contract. They want to know what's expected of them. They want to know what they're going to receive. And they need to be continually reminded of the value of belonging. In the tribe model, the leader creates a space where members can easily and frequently connect. Tribe creates a sense of belonging, connection, unity and commitment. In a tribe, growth becomes more easeful as there is a give and take of support that is energizing rather than depleting. When it comes to growing an organic, grassroots pro healer career. Cate wrote the book. From living in a trailer during ayurveda school to running her first Yogidetox in yurt with 6 paying members, it's fair to say that Cate grew her business from a shoestring budget. When it came to schooling and training, Cate was most interested in ayurveda and very much about the ROI (return on investment). Within a year of starting ayurveda school, Cate was making 50% of her income from ayurveda, even before she was certified. Yoga Health Coaching works the same way. We earn while we learn. Before we can recognize, articulate, and step into our dharma, there's some processing we need to do, processing of dysfunctional and/or outdated parts of ourselves with our eyes wide open. In this Changemaker Challenge episode, Cate and Grace discuss the warning signs of slacker career habits. A lot of us wellness pros are great at what we do, but that's not enough to grow a business. Often we're reluctant to even think of the services we provide as a "business,"  so we have slacker habits when it comes to our careers. We're in reactive mode and do little to no long term business planning. If we want make a bigger impact by helping more people, we need to develop professional career habits that systematically grow our business so that it's easier for people to find us. To start, we need to develop a larger perspective by identifying and quantifying 3 aspects of our career growth: impact, revenue, and lifestyle. A wellness pro with pro career habits is doing annual and quarterly planning that includes actionable steps that will help her hit her targets in all three areas. Using a project management tool streamlines the process and provides a structure for automating pro career habits. Still riding the "high" from the Yogahealer Mexico retreat in March, Carly chats with Gin Burchfield, who has taken her Yoga Health Coaching training and certification and created her own unique programs that serve kids and families. Gin has been a successful massage therapist for 16 years. For the last 12 years, she has also been providing Ayurvedic consulting on a one-on-one basis. What she's found is that the one-on-one model is exhausting and not very successful in terms of long-term impact. In this Changemaker Challenge episode, Cate and Grace pose the question: What is the growing edge in your leadership? Leadership training is intense and personal. When well done, it breaks down dysfunctional patterns. For that reason, growing edges look a lot like breakdowns. When we heed the call to lead, we are continually coming up against growing edges and breaking down shadow issues to deepen our capacity to lead. And it doesn't feel good during the breakdown process. The three sectors of leadership are leading, coaching, and managing. As wellness pros, we need to ask ourselves, or have others help us identify, in which sector our strength lies: inspiring, connecting, or systematizing. When we heed the call to have the kind of impact we want to have, we need to commit to developing skills that we may not have. On a growth path, resistance often shows up. When it does, we need to recognize that resistance is the product of the ego being enmeshed with the past self telling us we don't need to do the things that will help us grow. In this Changemaker Challenge career conversation, Carly Banks chats with Yoga Health Coach in Training, Amarylis Fernandez. All too often, potential pro healers fall into lives and patterns that society deems "normal" only to find themselves years later unhappy, burnt out, and unfulfilled. Such was the case with Amarylis. She thought she was doing everything "right." She had a husband, education, a home and career, yet felt lost in her life. She set the bar low for herself, accepting low paying work and settling in her marriage. The life she was leading wasn't bringing her joy, and she felt like she was just wandering through it. When thoughts of change would creep in, she would "check out" with the help of alcohol. After the birth of her daughter, Amarylis came to her breaking point. She didn't know how to live her life, and she knew she was suffering physically, mentally, and emotionally. Taking small steps toward health, Amarylis found Yogahealer. She completed the Living Ayurveda Course and Body Thrive and is now in Quarter 1 of Yoga Health Coaching. No longer pressing the "snooze" button, Amarylis has transitioned out of her old life. After resisting for a while, Amarylis eventually started following what she thought was the path to a "good life:" college, marriage, a house, a career with a benefits package . . . . But rather than bringing her happiness, Amarylis found herself "checking out."  There was nothing wrong with her life; it just wasn't resonating with her; it didn't bring her joy. 4:00 - Later Amarylis realized that she had been depressed and using alcohol as her "snooze button," as her means of "checking out." She felt ungrounded and didn't have a real sense of who she was. For decades, she hit the "snooze button" on her life because she didn't feel like she was ready to wake up to her own life. 5:15 - Amarylis's wake up call came after the birth of her daughter. She was staying at home to care for her and was forced to confront the fact that she didn't know who she was anymore. She didn't know how to live her life, and she knew she was suffering. Her suffering manifested as neurological issues that doctors couldn't explain. She knew her body was "freaking out" about something and she needed to get grounded, so she committed herself to exercise, despite some deep resistance. She started weight training and it felt amazing to move her body. More importantly, she started to get grounded in herself and wake up to who she was and what she wanted her life to be. Once she started to "undo" the life she had made for reasons that were not her own, everything started to align for her. She stopped drinking, and she began to experience joy. 9:50 - Amarylis completed the Living Ayurveda Course with Cate and is now in Quarter 1 of Yoga Health Coaching. Body Thrive changed the way she lived and Yoga Health Coaching is changing the way she thinks about her work and her earning potential. YHC made her understand that she was limiting herself with outdated beliefs about money and the type of work she does. 12:55 - Amarylis's keystone habit is Early to Bed. She has always been an early riser, so getting enough sleep means getting to be early. Waking early gives her the time she needs for self care before her daughter wakes up, which sets her up for a really good day. 15:30 - One of the best things about Yoga Health Coaching is that you can tailor your program to a segment of the general population that you want to work with . Both Amarylis and Carly work with new moms. In this Coach of the Month interview, Cate chats with Candice Claire Oksenhorn about her personal and professional growth path. Candice began her career in media sales but felt a yearning to be in a career that resonated with her in a meaningful way and could help others. She started learning about meditation and Ayurveda. Despite Candice's prior training in Ayurveda, she describes Body Thrive (the prerequisite for Yoga Health Coaching) as a profound, transformative process that tied all the "loose ends" together. In her personal life, Candice has experienced both chronic and acute stress and says it was the chronic stress that really wore her body down. She believes that the aligning with the rhythms of nature (dinarcharya in Ayurveda) is what helped her recover from stress and avoid disease. Now, through Yoga Health Coaching, she feels like she is able to offer others something that is both valuable and tangible. What she loves about teaching the habits is that it is just a very practical way of taking care of the body that works with individuals' existing belief systems. Candice consciously avoids being "lofty" in her teaching. She was high functioning, but she felt a lot of pressure to do things the "right" way, the expected way. Her husband suffered from mental illness, and while she tried to work with and around that, she would internalize a lot of the inner conflict she felt. Additionally, Candice dealt with chronic insomnia after the birth of her daughter. She thought she was taking care of herself, but she felt herself "crashing." 16:10 - Her studies fortified her for the acute stress she felt after her husband's suicide. Despite the inflammatory physical reactions her body had to the acute stress, Candice had faith that her body knew how to heal, and she continued to practice dinacharya. She started Body Thrive in 2016 and has educated her daughter in the habits. 22:50 - Your habits can either work for you in a regeneration process or against you in a dis-ease process. When we learn the habits of thrive, we naturally want to share those and educate others so that they know they have a choice in how they experience life. 26:40 - Candice's advice to newer yoga health coaches is 1. In this Spotlight Edition of the Yoga Health Coaching podcast, Grace Edison hosts Yoga Health Coach in Training Alec Hurley. Alec teaches yoga in San Diego and is the founder of Higher Self Wellness.  Before Alec began YHC, he was working as a professional chef and noticed his interpersonal relationships and intrapersonal connections fading away. He stepped deeper into his yoga practice and found Yogahealer through the podcast. After listening to the podcast for a couple of years, he decided to join YHC.  When transitioning from the job that he was trained for into yoga health coaching, Alec, like many YHC members, encountered fear and self doubt. He still works through some of that on a daily basis. Today's episode is a Career Clarity session with Lori McIntosh, hosted by Carly Banks. Lori is a Yoga Health Coach, and an incredibly inspiring person in the YHC community. She works with horses, and clearly has an immense emotional connection to her animals. Watch how emotionally stable Lori is, it's clear that there's a connection in doing something that's bigger than yourself, and having a connection to a species like a horse. Lori offers a lot of tailored trainings for people in the horseback riding communities. She's taken what's offered in Yoga Health Coaching and made it her own, and has come up with some really cool offerings and free talks and things for this riding community. In the podcast today, Lori and Carly talk about deep listening, and how to use it in order to sell their offerings. Batool Merali is an Ayurvedic Practitioner, Yoga Teacher, Yoga Health Coach, and she also helps her husband run a hotel business. Amid all this work, she found time to write and publish her first book in 2017. Batool has dug deep into her ancestral heritage and has drawn on some tried and true modern-day self-care tools to create a book which honours ancient wisdom but is grounded in modern-day practicality. The book has so many things to offer. Amongst other things it brings colour and life to many Hindu deities, is an adult colouring book, and, perhaps most importantly, is a journal which cunningly prompts the writer to delve deep and develop life-changing self care rituals. Yoga teaches us how critical our patterns are, not only in shaping our bodies, but also in shaping our destinies. Through the work of habit evolution we can prepare our minds and bodies to do the deeper work of self-understanding. There is a yogic process for personal development, written about in the ancient texts of the Vedas and made actionable for modern life through the process known as The Four Desires, developed by Yogarupa Rod Stryker.
