In this episode of the Stellar Cycles Podcast, we tackle those "itchy" and often taboo topics surrounding women's health that many shy away from discussing. We'll deconstruct the myths that these are "dirty" conditions and should be kept quiet. There is a lot of misinformation and misunderstanding around these issues, so my goal is to shed light on the differences between these conditions, their origins, and how we can heal and prevent them. As these issues affect the majority of women, it's time we stop shaming each other and start talking openly. The truth is, the vagina is a sensitive area, making women more prone to certain conditions than men. But don't worry—there's plenty to learn that can make managing these issues easier. Please note that this episode is based on my own experiences and research. Always seek the advice and treatment of your doctor for any medical conditions. They speak about the ways in which the vaginal Ph and the microbiome can be interrupted. With a sense of humor and science they explore the long standing media messages that imply vaginas are dirty and our need to vigilantly clean them. Questions of comments? Menstruation is often a taboo topic. From the potential confusion surrounding your first period to embarrassment while purchasing feminine hygiene products, there's a negative stigma many people associate with menstruation. And that's assuming you are not one of the 63 percent of women who have difficulty affording these necessary products. However, CEO Vilmante Markeviciene, is bringing power and positivity to the feminine hygiene market. She is the founder of the U.S. brand Genial Day and the European brand Gentle Day, sustainable feminine care products aimed at minimizing rashes, skin irritation, and unpleasant period smells and spills. Pivoting from a career in business administration and interior design, Markeviciene found herself at a crossroads in 2008. During the recession, she realized how expensive pads, tampons, period underwear, and related products were in the United States — and seized the opportunity to expand her business from the EU to the U.S. Listen to Markeviciene describe her entrepreneurial journey, and how your purchases can support displaced Ukrainian people who menstruate, on this episode of SheVentures. 2:33 Markeviciene describes growing up in Lithuania. 7:22 Markeviciene's promise to donate one product to Ukrainians for each product bought 8:40 What were Markeviciene's early career pivots? 10:38 How did Genial Day start? 17:10 What is the product approval process? 26:20 Markeviciene discusses the complications of going global. This episode is sponsored by Lactacyd Fem, the #1 Feminine wash brand with 75 years of expertise in the Feminine Hygiene industry. P*rn is often many people's first source of sexual education, as a result it creates unrealistic expectations of what 'intimacy' should look and feel like, despite it all being staged. In this episode, laugh and scream along with Indah and Peter as they debunk a lot of the misconceptions and inaccuracies found in the adult entertainment industry, as well as spill for y'all the REAL tea on things like sq*irting, c*mming, length vs. girth, how to REALLY tell when she's reached O-city, and how to ACTUALLY make him feel good when riding on top. What were some of Indah and Peter's own internalized misconceptions and unrealistic expectations as a result of their pornographic consumptions, and how the hell did a booty-call leave Indah with first-degree burns? Also really sorry that there are no more-specific timestamps, it's because Indah and Peter kind of went all over the place, and a lot of different things all at the same time that it's pretty hard to divide & categorize. "Feminine Hygiene" is big business- "feminine" of course being the acceptable marketing euphemism to avoid saying the word "vagina". Over 50% of post-menopausal women are using at least one so-called “feminine hygiene” product on their vulvas or in their vaginas. In this episode, Dr. Streicher discusses: Where the term FEMININE HYGIENE comes from The origins of VAGINAL SHAMING PERCEIVED vaginal ODOR as opposed to actual vaginal odor The role of pH in maintaining a healthy vaginal microbiome Things that can INCREASE pH and cause vaginal odor or BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS (BV) WHY you shouldn't buy an over-the-counter kit to see if you have BV Strategies to keep your pH in BALANCE The PROBLEM with VULVAR WASHES and wipes The PROBLEM with vulvar PERFUMES, deodorants, sprays, douches, and other products. At any given time, 800 million people worldwide are menstruating, and yet, it's a topic that is largely considered taboo. As if that weren't bad enough, thanks to issues accessing raw materials, shipping troubles, and labor issues, the U.S. is currently experiencing a massive tampon shortage that is leaving many people with uteruses unable to access the products they need to care for their periods. On this episode, we discuss the history of feminine hygiene, the reasons behind the shortage, and what you can do if you're struggling to get the period products you need.Follow us on social media @allthefwordspodWrite to us! allthefwordspod@gmail.comLinkshttps://www.si.edu/spotlight/health-hygiene-and-beauty/feminine-hygiene-products#:~:text=Several%20patents%20for%20menstrual%20tampons,applicator%2C%20became%20the%20Tampax%20tamponhttps://voxapod.com/blogs/journal/the-history-of-menstrual-productshttps://www.pbs.org/newshour/economy/how-the-ongoing-national-tampon-shortage-may-worsen-period-povertyhttps://www.nytimes.com/2022/06/13/well/live/tampon-shortage.htmlhttps://www.nytimes.com/2022/06/22/style/tampon-shortage-alternatives.htmlhttps://time.com/6184644/tampon-shortage-supply-chain/https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/americas-period-taboo-will-outlast-the-tampon-shortage/2022/07/02/b207d3a0-fa07-11ec-81db-ac07a394a86b_story.html
Happy 200 episodes! Erin Ryan and Alyssa Mastromonaco talk to NBC anchor Katy Tur about her honest new memoir Rough Draft. Then in News: Erin and Alyssa discuss Liz Cheney's Jan. 6 opening statement, the tampon shortage (and Marjorie Taylor Greene's dizzy, transphobic comments about it), a new Ohio law allowing teachers to carry guns after barely any training, and the alt-right attacking Pride events nationwide. Later, Megan Gailey, Naomi Ekperigin, Grace Parra Janney, and Kiran Deol join to reflect upon the craziness that has — and surprisingly hasn't — gone down since Hysteria's beginning four years ago. Finally, a sophisticated I Feel Petty.
Update: The bill Sarah and her students fought for to end period poverty in Hawaii Public Schools, SB 2821, recently passed and is now awaiting the Governor's signature at the end of June 2022. Visit NEA's EdJustice site at: https://neaedjustice.org/
There is a huge industry built around making women feel insecure about their genitals in order to sell them so-called "feminine hygiene products." They've convinced many women that their vaginas and vulvas are "dirty" and in need of constant cleaning. But is it even healthy to use these products? And what do you really need to know when it comes to maintaining vaginal health? I spoke with a gynecologist to find out--and to bust some common myths about vaginas and vulvas. My guest today is Dr. Jennifer Lincoln, a board-certified OB-GYN and author of the book, Let's Talk About Down There: An OBGYN Answers All Your Burning Questions Without Making You Feel Embarrassed for Asking. Jennifer also runs a popular sex ed channel on TikTok (@drjenniferlincoln) with more than two million followers. Some of the topics we explore in this episode include: Where does this idea that vaginas and vulvas are "dirty" come from anyway? What should and shouldn't be part of a vaginal and vulvar self-care routine? What should you do if you're concerned about the smell or taste of your genitals? What's the safest way to remove pubic hair to avoid risk of injury and infection? Can a doctor actually tell if a woman has had sex by inspecting her genitals? Do vaginas really become "looser" with frequent sex? Is it really true that if you have an STI, you'll know it? How do you boost low sexual desire? Check it out! And be sure to check out Jennifer's book Let's Talk About Down There and follow her on TikTok. Talking about sexual health is a taboo in our country. Sexual health ka matlab bhi zyadatar logon ko theek se pata nahi hai. Iske baare mein baat karna to door, even private parts ke baare mein baat karne walon ko bhi bahot log morally corrupt maan lete hain. Humein shaming and judgement se bahar aake openly discuss karna hai. Moreover, when you talk openly, you understand your body better and can get help at the first sign of trouble.Iss episode mein main baat kar rahi hun Veneriologist Dr. Niveditha Manokaran se. We talk about what is sexual health, how to take care of our private parts and also about vaginal discharge.
