"I know very well that many scientists consider dowsing as they do astrology, as a type of ancient superstition. According to my conviction this is, unjustified. The dowsing rod is a simple instrument which shows the uncanny reaction of the human nervous system to certain factors which are unknown to us at this time." - Albert Einstein * Random Acts of Healing,: Using Pendulum Power to Heal Ourselves and Our Planet, Kac Young, PhD Watching a dowser at work can be fascinating when they demonstrate how to find water or lost objects. Kac says one dowser was proficient enough at finding submarines  to be considered a national treasure. Resulting in a travel restriction - passport confiscated by the government - for safe keeping. Kac is a life long dowser and teaches dowsing. Her book will guide you on how to use a pendulum as a tool for self-healing. Summary: The book takes you through the history of the pendulum, how other seers, wizards, and magicians used it centuries ago, along with the instructions and guidance for how to use a pendulum correctly. It also provides you with step-by-step instructions as to how to find objects using a pendulum and many other answers. You receive a full course in emotional healing, chakra healing, archetypal healing, and even the use of Bach® Flower Remedies and essential oils. If you want to know more about yourself, your inner thoughts, and motivations, then this book will gently guide you through that personal exploration. If you want to heal others, this book will also show you how to do that and provide insights to others. Finally, this book will help you rise to a level of mastery where you can be one of the chosen healers to bring healing to Mother Earth. - Kac Young Website: https://www.kacyoung.com/ *The town of Danville, Vermont has been the home of the American Society of Dowsers headquarters since 1961. Humanitarian, activist, writer and TV host Zainab Salbi has become a leading voice for women's rights. A survivor of struggles both geopolitical and personal, Zainab has taken her hard-won insights about conflict and healing, and used that empathy to organize and inspire. Along the way, she's developed a deep connection to the natural world, where she finds rich metaphors that inform her work.     Zainab grew up in Iraq, in the shadow of Saddam Hussein's regime, before fleeing to the United States at the age of 19. In 1993, she founded Women for Women, a global humanitarian effort that has helped half a million women affected by conflict.   Her awards and accolades include inclusion in Foreign Policy Magazine's “100 Leading Global Thinkers” and People Magazine's “25 Women Changing The World.” She is the author of several books, including her most recent, Freedom Is An Inside Job: Owning Our Darkness and Our Light to Heal Ourselves and the World.    We met Zainab for a crisp, socially-distanced, leaf-crunching walk at a nature preserve in Pawling, New York, 75 miles north of New York City. It was November, 2020, just days after the Presidential election, and though the votes were still being counted, it was already clear that America remained divided.   Impressed by her experience working with survivors of global conflicts, we wanted to ask Zainab about what comes next. In the wake of #metoo and #blacklivesmatter, and as we confront the growing threat of violent extremism in the US… Now what?  How can societies and souls overcome our greatest failings?

Buddhism’s four noble truths start with the truth—and the inevitability—of suffering. So what does that mean for an activist? For Michael Kink, suffering became the fuel to power action for justice. The executive director of the Strong Economy for All Coalition, a labor-community organization focused on income inequality and fighting for a fair wage for all workers, Michael has been on the frontline of changemaking for decades. But Michael found that practicing Buddhism radically improved how he showed up to work. Meditation, he discovered, is something that is always helpful and always available—even in the midst of chaos.  In this episode, Tricycle’s Editor and Publisher James Shaheen sits down with Michael and Sharon Salzberg to discuss how Michael’s practice empowers his work. Since the pandemic began earlier this year, mutual aid funds have become a major resource for people suffering from the burden of job loss and financial strain. One mutual aid fund, Pandemic of Love, has helped thousands of people access funds for things like food, health insurance payments, and even money for funerals for loved ones who have died from COVID-19. The fund, started by mindfulness teacher, writer, and organizer Shelly Tygielski, has matched over 292,000 individuals and families with patrons, garnering over $38.4 million in direct transactions since March 14. But Shelly never expected an organization that she started for her local community to have such a nationwide reach. Some Buddhists would say that the proper response to the current suffering of the world is to turn inward—to use the tools of meditation to develop skillful states of mind. Others might say this isn't enough, that we should be out there—helping others in our communities and demanding action from our representatives. But these two options do not preclude each other, says meditation teacher and author Sharon Salzberg. Her new book, Real Change: Mindfulness to Heal Ourselves and Our World, provides a guide to freeing ourselves from negative emotions in order to summon the courage to act against injustice, as well as ways we can sustain ourselves through activist burnout and feelings of despair.  In this episode, Tricycle’s Editor and Publisher James Shaheen speaks to Sharon about the making of the book and how her meditation practice provides an emotional anchor in difficult times.  This month, Tricycle Talks is releasing five podcasts featuring people who are creating change in their communities. This online community for sexual awareness & inclusivity offers personalized worlds & interactions. Membership is by avatar--anonymous & free. We can’t talk about sexual harassment without talking about Sex. We can’t have sexual abuse without sexual health. MeToo opened the floodgates Of speaking Sex in the World. It has Helped Make Sex Visible & helped us begin to accept our sexuality openly without feeling devalued humiliated disrespected & Sex shamed. How do we Release the Old Defenses that Once Kept Us Women Safe in order to Make Choices That Free Up Our Creativity & Capacity to Heal Ourselves & Each Other? How do we unlearn our unconscious sexual views & prejudices & practices? How do we overcome these social biases & embrace our bodies & sexuality honestly? How do we Protect children from sex trafficking & mental slavery? We start by Letting Go Our Attachment to our Learned Habits. The internet is full of learning platforms that encourage Women’s Sexual Genital Presence in the public sphere. We start by admitting that we are each a naked body. Instead of using power to obtain sex, we can trust our body to lead the way to sexual health. Instead of exchanging sex as a commodity, we can aim to Heal the world through safe, open sexuality. That’s the task of our sexual liberation. The dominant social structure has made normative macho males dominant & normative femme women submissive. It wants us to restrict & demonize & belittle & shame sexuality. We need fresh tools to communicate about sexuality in order to break the cycle of abuse & provide healing to the sexually abused so the world can be a happier, healthier place. Our coping mechanisms are to Control Or Please others )get along, avoid conflict), Self-Isolate (go into our head) or Distract ourselves away from our own evolution. 90% of women have been sexually abused raped assaulted harassed. 100% have felt fear of attack while in public. 100% of women have self censored, dressed down, toned down, hidden & disguised their bodies to earn more social respect & more physical security. By age 24 most living women have experienced sexual harassment. By 48 they will again if we don’t change the culture. Our Sexuality binds us together. Our sexual perspectives don’t divide us the way our sociopolitical perspectives do. It’s healthy for us as individuals not to be too precisely defined by our habits, to be open to evolving & adapting to the consciousness updates that happen to us as we mature. I had the distinct pleasure to interview renowned Shamanic Practitioner, Teacher & Healer Sandra Ingerman.Today we discuss her upcoming Sounds True course, based on her 2018 “Medicine for the Earth and Healing with Spiritual Light” workshop, where a group of dedicated shamanic practitioners set an intention to make space for those who would take the online course.Because shamanism works across time and space, this circle is still open to you—ready for you to add your own gifts and energy to this ongoing healing work.Today we discuss her online course Healing with Spiritual Light: The Shamanic Power of Transfiguration to Heal Ourselves, Each Other, and the Earth. In this discussion, I ask Sandra to share her definition of transfiguration as it relates to Shamanic practices as a major theme of this 8-week online course is transfiguration.According to Sandra, "At the heart of this training is a practice that I call transfiguration. This is literally the act of “healing with spiritual light”—a classic way that shamans work in healing ceremonies. The understanding behind transfiguration is that our authentic nature is spiritual light. We are beings of divine light clothed by our body and mind—and this is true of every creature, substance, or energy in the physical world. As we let that divine light radiate through us like a shining star in the night sky, we stimulate the light in our loved ones, others around us, all in the web of life, and the Earth itself. What makes transfiguration so powerful?I believe it is because this practice embraces the feminine principle of healing by being instead of doing. How do you find yourself when you're stuck between two cultures? Alya Mooro was born in Cairo, Egypt and grew up in London, UK. Growing up with multi-cultural heritage, Alya began questioning the pressure she felt in the face of opposing stereotypes and attitudes. Today we have a really great chat about feminism, identity and breaking down taboos in both Western and Eastern cultures. I was really keen to discuss difficult conversations with Alya too. In today's political climate, these uncomfortable, controversial and sometimes downright awkward questions need to be asked amongst our friends, family and peers. It's the only way things are going to progress in a positive direction and people are going to feel seen and heard. I hope today's chat gives you some food for thought or a new perspective you might not have had before. Zainab Salbi is an author, humanitarian, and media commentator who founded the nonprofit organization Women for Women International when she was only 23 years old. With Sounds True, she has published the book Freedom Is an Inside Job: Owning Our Darkness and Our Light to Heal Ourselves and the World. In this episode of Insights at the Edge, Tami Simon and Zainab discuss what it means to be an agent of social change while also navigating the everyday journey of being human. They talk about why it's necessary to let go of what no longer works in our lives in order to embrace our most deeply held truths. As an Iraqi-American, Zainab speaks on engaging with people whose values oppose ours—especially those who currently oppose Muslim immigration to the United States. Finally, Zainab and Tami talk about the healing power of making amends and what "freedom" really means. (83 minutes) Tami's Takeaway Zainab teaches how we can befriend people who hold opposing views not through debate, but through embrace and a strong, open stance that is curious about the other person's underlying needs and emotions. I believe this skill—truly understanding people who disagree with us and feel "other"—is one of the most important skills we need to be peacemakers and bringers of love in all of our interactions.
