The Ogunquit Playhouse is not just some theater on the side of the road in Ogunquit, Maine.Every summer for the last 93 years, this "little white box" in one of New England's most eclectic cultural hubs has played home to world premieres of global theatrical sensations, many of which later make their way to the stages of Broadway and London's famed West End. The actors and actresses whom Ogunquit attracts have shelves filled with Tony Awards, ditto for the world-class behind-the-scenes crew members. And perhaps best of all, its $18M annual operating budget allows the Playhouse to pay above-average wages to talented artists in a field notorious for failing to provide a meaningful living. And now, as the Playhouse inches closer to its 100th season on the Seacoast, the not-for-profit entertainment venue has its eyes on the next century, and how the theater can adapt to survive an increasingly difficult artistic climate. From the historic main stage of The Ogunquit Playhouse, Technical Director Geof Dolan (20 years) and Executive Artistic Director Brad Kenney (21 years) sit down with host Troy Farkas to discuss the origins of the summer theater in America, how the Playhouse established itself as a world leader in theater, the caliber of talent they attract every summer, how they choose which shows to put on each year, what the Playhouse means to the Seacoast, the theater's ambitious plans for the next century, and more. For their full summer schedule, please visit OgunquitPlayhouse.org for more details.CHAPTERS:The decorated 93-year history of The Ogunquit Playhouse (00:00)Why Ogunquit Playhouse is an anomaly in the theater industry (16:00)Does the Seacoast understand just how world-class the Playhouse is? Director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead in their Brentwood, Los Angeles home on Sunday, December 14, 2025. Authorities are investigating the deaths as a double homicide. According to People Magazine, citing multiple sources, the couple's 32-year-old son Nick Reiner is allegedly responsible. Both victims reportedly suffered stab wounds. Their daughter Romy discovered the bodies. Rob Reiner was 78. He won two Emmys playing "Meathead" on All in the Family before becoming one of Hollywood's most celebrated directors. His filmography includes This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, and A Few Good Men. His final film, Spinal Tap II, was released earlier this year. Michele Singer Reiner, 68, was a photographer who met Rob on the set of When Harry Met Sally. They married in 1989 and had three children: Jake, Nick, and Romy. Rob once said meeting Michele inspired him to change the film's ending so the characters end up together. Nick Reiner has spoken publicly about his struggles with addiction, which began in his teens. He first entered rehab at 15 and cycled through more than a dozen treatment programs. In 2016, he co-wrote the semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie with his father about his experiences with addiction and recovery. LAPD has not officially named a suspect. The investigation is ongoing. We'll update as more information becomes available. Our second trip to VAL-halla finds Paul, Arlo, and Eric contemplating two very different experiences of Val Kilmer's ‘80s career: Tony Scott's 1986 pro-war classic Top Gun and the 1988 Tolkien rip Willow, helmed by–of all people–Ron Howard. The twist is that the mega-popular Top Gun is a terrible, empty film that survives on aesthetics alone and the notorious flop Willow is a fun little high fantasy romp. The gang discusses the insidious nature of Top Gun, Val's fleeting scenes as Iceman, the superior role of Madmartigan in Willow, and the ominous James Horner horn riff. Plus, The Sandman season 2 arrives on Netflix and Arlo went to see The Fantastic Four: First Steps. NEXT: everybody goes to see Fantastic Four! EPISODE 86 - “ANNA MAY WONG: CLASSIC CINEMA STAR OF THE MONTH” - 5/5/2025 Anna May Wong was once the most famous Chinese woman in the world. The trailblazing actress, philanthropist, and fashion icon appeared in over 60 films and was a celebrated star, yet, at the time, she was not allowed to kiss a Caucasian man on screen, which limited the roles she could take, and she was not allowed to buy a house in Beverly Hills. A strange dichotomy, indeed. In recent years, she has enjoyed a much-deserved resurgence. Known as a Trailblazer and a cultural icon, she paved the way for generations of Asian and Asian American actors by proving that talent and perseverance could transcend racist casting conventions. Her life and career continue to influence conversations about diversity, representation, and the politics of race in Hollywood. This week, she is our Star of the Month.
