The U.S. Surgeon General says Americans are confronting an epidemic of loneliness. About half of U.S. adults report experiencing loneliness, and that was before the COVID-19 pandemic. Loneliness has physical health consequences, and impacts work performance, academic achievement and our overall mental health. Additionally, the Surgeon General has warned that the stress of caring for children has an impact on our mental health. Many members of Generation X may be caring for children or again parents or both, and the stress of caregiving has impacts on mental health as well. In this episode of Further Together, hosts Michael Holtz and Matthew Underwood talk to Jennifer Reynolds, senior manager of health communication, marketing, and promotion and Kristin Mattson, senior health education specialist. Ep 455 - Women on Corporate Boards  Guest: Jennifer Reynolds By Stuart McNish   Here, it is 2023 and according to Forbes Magazine, only ten percent of Fortune 500 companies are led by women. The magazine, however,  sees that ten percent as “a new milestone. While these numbers may not seem like a cause for celebration, they are when one considers the history of women achieving top leadership roles in business.”   The history of women at the top of Fortune 500 companies has included just two CEOs for decades. Forbes points out that “as recently as 2000, only four women led Fortune 500 companies.” Fast-forward to today and 53 women are in the top spot at those same companies.   Where to go from here? Is it a straight line to gender parity? In a Harvard Business Review study from 2006, “when there is one woman on a board, progress is difficult, but when three or more women are on a board, dynamics shift.” The question, according to the foundation Women Corporate Directors is, “How are these leaders effecting change in the world?”   We invited Jennifer Reynolds, the CEO of Women Corporate Directors, to join us for a Conversation That Matters about changes in the structure of boardrooms and how companies benefit from more women and greater diversity in senior roles.   Learn More about our guests career at careersthatmatter.ca   Join me June 20 for Conversations Live - A Vancouver Sun Town Hall https://www.conversationslive.ca/

In this episode, Courtney talks with Jennifer Reynolds, mother of 12 kids and lifelong hiker. They talk about hiking as kids and with kids all over the country, what kind of snacks can keep them all moving and they answer the question: “What have you learned from hiking with your kids?” More about Jennifer: I have always had a love for nature, ever since as far back as I can remember. I started “hiking” and adventuring in grade school, in the large expanse of woods, creeks, and farmlands behind my grandparents home . I would spend hours finding all sorts of animals and plants. I loved climbing on everything and playing in the water. My first two children were born in the 90s and I did my best to instill in them a love of nature and a respect for the Earth. When they were little we lived with a 761 acre park right in our backyard. We would spend all day in the forest and hiking out and back in the creek at the bottom of the gorge there. On the weekends we would hike at other local parks or travel to the Natural Bridge State Resort Park in KY. We are now a combined family with 12 kids. In the last 28 years I have traveled to 2 countries and all but 8 states. We can't wait to explore more and revisit some. I have frequently been hiking with a child on my front and/or back. I enjoy hiking with my family and the Tri-State Hiking and Events Group, caving with the Louisville Grotto, and have many other hobbies and diy interests. Stefan Molyneux rebuts the article "Pandemic threatens to wipe out decades of progress for working mothers""While one might think, in 2020, that strain would fall equally on the shoulders of all parents, that's not what the data shows. During COVID-19, women's participation in the Canadian workforce has fallen to a level not seen in decades, and with uncertain school plans and few options for child care, some women are not returning to work."Some of the women who were laid off are actually not looking anymore, that's deeply concerning," said Jennifer Reynolds, CEO of Toronto Financial International, a firm aimed at boosting investment in the city and encouraging women's participation in the workforce. "If we don't get women back to work in the types of numbers we saw before … we won't get the economic growth that we really need." https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/women-employment-covid-economy-1.5685463▶️ Donate Now: www.freedomain.com/donate▶️ Sign Up For Our Newsletter: www.fdrurl.com/newsletterYour support is essential to Freedomain, which is 100% funded by viewers like you.
