Full episode available on our patreon. KR, Craig Costello for Living Proof Radio. Craig Costello is an artist, retired graffiti writer and founder of KRINK. Having spent time painting graffiti in a pivotal era of both New York and San Francisco, KR upheld the long standing tradition of shoplifting materials to make your own markers and ink. His approach to graffiti played with scale; very large/legible 'KR's' done with paint-rollers in high-profile areas, along with street-level tags done with his home-made ink and markers. The spirit of innovation within KRINK has led to tools like the sprayer, dauber, fire-extinguisher, specialized spray paint, as well as classics including KRINK's chrome ink and the k-60 mop. His approach to graffiti and tool making has globally influenced the way graffiti is done today. *KR, Craig Costello and Angel in conversation.http://patreon.com/livingproofnewyorkhttp://livingproofnewyork.com

KR, Craig Costello is the creator of KRINK. KR's roots are planted deep in graffiti culture, having spent time painting in New York & San Francisco. KRINK's origins involved KR racking all of the supplies which allowed for ability to experiment with different inks and materials. He would hand make all of the markers and inks in small batches by his bathroom window and learn photoshop at Alife to make the marker labels. To this day, KRINK is still handmade in small batches. KR's innovative approach to graffiti has had immense influence on what graffiti is today. We speak on the history of markers/inks, racking, DIY attitude, KR's time painting in NY/SF and more.http://patreon.com/angelandzpodcasthttp://instagram.com/classyscreenshttp://classyscreensny.com
*) Incumbent Macron wins French election, defeating rival Le Pen President Emmanuel Macron has comfortably defeated far-right rival Marine Le Pen in French presidential election, according to exit polls. His supporters erupted with joy as the results appeared on a giant screen at the Champ de Mars park by the Eiffel tower. Leaders in Berlin, Brussels, London and beyond welcomed his defeat of the nationalist, eurosceptic Le Pen. *) US announces new military aid, diplomatic support for Ukraine The United States has announced new military assistance for Ukraine and a renewed diplomatic push in the war-ravaged nation. The announcement came after the US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin completed his secretive trip to Kiev. He told Ukraine's president and his advisers that the US would provide more than 300 million dollars in foreign military financing. *) Tribal clashes in Sudan's restive Darfur kill nearly 170 Clashes between rival groups in Sudan's Darfur have killed at least 168 people, an aid group said, in the latest bout of deadly violence to hit the restive region. The fighting erupted in the Krink region of West Darfur. The violence broke out when armed tribesmen attacked villages of the non-Arab Massalit minority in retaliation for the killing of two tribesmen. *) Erdogan: Turks and Armenians should build a future together Türkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has sent a letter to the head of the Armenian Patriarchate in Istanbul in which he stressed that Turks and Armenians should build their future together. His message addressed the Turkish-Armenian community gathered at the Istanbul Armenian Patriarchate to honour the Ottoman Armenians who died in the "harsh conditions" of World War I. Erdogan reiterated that the final years of the Ottoman Empire, which coincided with World War I, were a "very painful period" for millions of Ottoman citizens. And, finally... *) Box Office: 'The Bad Guys' topples 'Fantastic Beasts 3' with $24 million debut Universal's kid-friendly caper "The Bad Guys" pulled off a heist for the ages, capturing the number one spot at the domestic box office. The animated comedy has collected 24 million dollars from 4,009 North American theatres in its debut, enough to take the crown from "Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore." "The Bad Guys" carries a $70 million price tag, so although the Dreamworks Animation film has topped the box office, it may have to claw its way to profitability in its theatrical run.
The United Nations has called for an investigation into the reported killings of at least 168 people in clashes in the Darfur region of Sudan. The UN special representative Volker Perthes condemned the violence in Krink region of west Darfur, during which homes have been set on fire, hospitals attacked and goods looted. Several non-governmental organisations said an individual dispute sparked the fighting between Arab nomads and members of the Massalit minority in Krink. The International Committee of the Red Cross has warned of a rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation and called for the injured and sick to be allowed to seek help.

Krink: Graffiti, Art, and Invention should have been the title of this week's podcast episode but it's already the title of Craig Costello's new book that just dropped with Rizzoli. In this episode Craig and Amon talk about growing up in Queens, life in San Francisco, the birth of Krink, Alife, minimizing risk, field testing, racking and the challenges of growing a small business. Show Notes: https://www.newyorksaid.com/the-story-of-krink-with-craig-costello
"You can't steal everything," Craig Costello says, as he recounts his years in both Queens and San Francisco in the 1980s and 1990s. In many ways, Costello is right. As a graffiti writer, photographer and all around innovator, Costello, also known as KR and, of course, now known as the man behind the KRINK brand of markers and inks for not only graffiti, but fine art practices as well, has been at the forefront of multiple ways of underground culture emerging into public consciousness. These moments and stories are captured in the new book, KRINK: Graffiti, Art, and Invention, and in many ways, the title says it all. Radio Juxtapoz caught up with Costello from his home on Long Island in the midst of a pandemic, but a moment where all of us are being a bit nostalgic and mindful. Costello talked about the intricacies of NYC graffiti in the 1980s, the early rise of Mission School artists out of SFAI in San Francisco in the early 1990s and the slow evolution of his own practice that led to the now famous drip aesthetic he would go on to perfect in NYC back in the early 2000s. There is so much history in this talk; from subway cars to Barry McGee's innovative street work, a love of photography to early beginnings of ALIFE on the Lower East Side. ESPO, IRAK, Os Gemeos, KAWS, Revs + Cost... the stories, the materials, the style... it's all here. Subscribe to the Radio Juxtapoz podcast HERE. The Radio Juxtapoz podcast is hosted by FIFTH WALL TV's Doug Gillen and Juxtapoz editor, Evan Pricco. Episode 042 was recorded via Skype from San Francisco/London/NY, April 8, 2020. KRINK: Graffiti, Art, and Invention is published by Rizzoli, and available now.

Chapeau. Wir sind entzückt. ✘ Mauro Basso (Auditive//Bremen) https://soundcloud.com/maurobasso https://www.facebook.com/maurobassoauditive Download for free on The Artist Union

Tell us about your selection. A: It wasn´t easy to put my past 25 years into a 60 minutes mix. But at least it´s a deep journey back to my early doings. It´s exactly these tracks when you realize how many memories you still have in your mind by listening to those classics. It was a really nice experience for me! Q: You´re analog live sessions recently became a lot of attention. What´s your favorite setup in the studio? A: That´s a really good question but thanks first. I love to work with analogue machines because I can react more sponaneously and I´m more free in mind what to do next. But I also love producing on the PC. This is where you can invest more time by doing the finishing. Q: Besides your own productions you´re running the smart label AUDITIVE. Tell us what´s coming up next! A: Yes indeed. By starting the label in 2011 we made something good with it. It´s nice to see how things developed during the past years and I´m pleased to work with amazing artists such as Krink, Jonas Saalbach, Pazul, Marcus Sur and many more. There are a lot of releases in the pipeline actually. I don´t want to tell too much about but you should better be prepared.

What was your personal highlight this year and why? A) Difficult to say. The whole summer was a highlight for me. Fusion Festival was great again. Also Garbicz Festival in Poland was outstanding. There I played an improvised live-set back to back with my buddy Krink. We started from zero, no idea where it would end. That was really an awesome experience and we definitely will repeat that soon. These are just two examples. To sum up I can say, that every single festival was nice and had it’s own energy. And it doesn’t matter if it’s a big one or not. The smaller ones, like Wilde Möhre Festival or 3000Grad Festival have got such an intimate and cozy atmosphere, you can’t find at the huge productions like Sonne, Mond & Sterne, or as mentioned above, Fusion Festival. The big ones are impressive, because of the energy the crowd gives you and you automatically just try to push things forward in your sound and set. Q) You´re inside your studio all week and travelling all weekends. Where´s time and space to collect some new inspiration and recharge your batteries? A) Most of the inspiration I collect while traveling. Discovering new places. Meeting so many nice people everywhere. That’s a lot of input all the time and has to be processed. And a year ago I moved to Leipzig. A new surrounding, new studio, meet a lot of new people, met old and made new friends. This is also a lot of inspiration for me at the moment. And for recharging my batteries it’s important to do things with friends or my girlfriend outside of this music-thing. Mondays my ears got vacation. No music, just hanging, meeting friends or doing stupid office shit. Q) Which Schlepp Geist releases can we expect soon? A) A lot. I’ve made an EP together with my friend Douglas Greed, which is going to be released this week on Animal Trainers „Hive Audio“. It’s called "Hub Twenty" and I’m so looking forward to the release day. Yay! And there’s also some more straight techno stuff coming up in the next months, for what I decided to choose another alias. But that’s a thing I don’t wanna tell too much about. And of course some remixes are coming also in October / November / December.

What was the most special moment/place for you? A: Coming to a new place is always special to me. Though it gets more exciting the further you are from home. It still amazes me that people care for something you initially did alone, more or less for yourself and that you can come to a different city, country or even continent and there are people who know what you do and appreciate it, thats great! Q: Describe your live-setup: How do you play your sets? A: My live-set up is changing constantly, I usually have my Laptop with stems and loops from my productions, a drum machine and a delay with me. Sometimes I might take a synth or a keyboard with me. Q: What´s coming next musicially? A: There are a couple of remixes coming out in the next few weeks and I am currently working on new original material, since I have been quite busy with remixing lately, it´s good to concentrate on that a bit more now.
2015 is well underway and Steyoyoke Recordings are undoubtedly planting some new seeds as they continue to surge forward into the year. One artist to stand at the forefront of this push is Ran Salman, who delivered an outstanding live set during the recent Steyoyoke 3rd Anniversary party, so it's only fitting that he is the curator for their latest podcast. Sealing the deal with tracks from Butch, Aaryon, Deetron, Scuba and Krink, Ran even slips in an upcoming release from his next Steyoyoke EP, which is due out in May. http://www.steyoyoke.com/
