Bible-reading funks are more common than most people admit, and they arrive for all kinds of reasons. A busy season of life, a complicated history with how Scripture was taught, the ordinary pull of a tired and distracted mind — any of these can quietly erode the habit of regular Bible reading until weeks have passed and the distance from God's Word feels both familiar and vaguely guilty. The honest acknowledgment that we are not always naturally eager to open the Bible is not a sign of weak faith. It is a sign that faith is a commitment, not just a feeling. Psalm 1 paints a picture of someone whose delight is in the law of the Lord and who meditates on it day and night — and the result is a life that is like a tree planted by streams of water, bearing fruit in season and never withering. That kind of rootedness does not happen accidentally. It is the fruit of a sustained, intentional commitment to staying in the Word even when it does not feel compelling. One practical strategy that has proven remarkably effective for getting out of a Bible-reading funk is finding someone whose spiritual wellbeing matters deeply to you and committing to read Scripture with or to them once a day. It does not have to be a long passage. It does not have to be perfectly timed or beautifully executed. It simply has to happen. Accountability, even the chaotic and imperfect kind, has a way of keeping us tethered to the Word better than good intentions ever do. Stay committed not because it always feels good, but because goodness is only found when we are anchored in the truth and love of God's Word. Today's Bible Verse "Blessed is the one whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither."— Psalm 1:1-3, NIV Ponder Today Faith is a commitment, not a feeling. If Bible reading relied on feeling eager and inspired, most of us would rarely open its pages. Discipline practiced in the absence of feeling is what produces the deep-rootedness Psalm 1 describes. Finding someone to read Scripture with creates accountability that good intentions cannot. When someone else's spiritual well-being is connected to our commitment, the stakes shift. We show up not just for ourselves but for them. The goal does not have to be impressive to be effective. One Psalm a day. One short passage. A specific, measurable, realistic commitment practiced consistently will do more for your Bible reading than an ambitious plan that lasts three days. A Bible-reading funk is not a permanent state — it is a season to push through. The feelings of intimidation, boredom, or distance from God's Word are real, but they are not reliable guides for whether we should open the Bible. The Word itself is what revives those feelings over time. Stay the course because Jesus is running it with you. The hard disciplines are the only ones truly worth pursuing and treasuring. A life rooted in Scripture bears fruit in every season — including the ones where the leaves feel like they might not make it. A Prayer for You Today Lord, in our sinful flesh it is so easy to shrug off Your Word, to dismiss its beauty, power, and freedom. Whether it is a busy season, a challenging circumstance, or the enemy's distractions, we too easily place Bible reading on the back burner. Please grant us the discernment to find someone we can read Your truth with, and may this commitment to Scripture revive our hearts and awaken a new desire to stay tethered to who You are through the pages of the Bible. What's the fundamental problem with humanity? Is it a lack of education? Poor policies in the public sphere? Why are humans the way they are? In this sermon on Ephesians 2:1–3 titled “Man in Sin,” Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones explains that the problem is much deeper. The problem is this: humanity is dead. Not physically dead––physically, people are very much alive––but in regards to spiritual things, humanity is born dead. Humanity sees no need for God and disregards His word. Spiritual realities are boring to them and they do not find the Bible relevant. As a result, humanity is shaped by the present age under the spiritual realm of darkness and organize their life apart from God. They do not know it because they are dead. The result is eternal death. Listen as Dr. Lloyd-Jones explains that one must know the depths of this problem. As the problem is much deeper than one thought, the solution must be greater than imagined. The delight in the gospel of Jesus Christ comes from understanding this. They were hopeless and dead. Without Christ, there was nothing one could do. Yet God loved them and He has made them alive.

There is an entire content industry built on "biblical archaeology" right now — TV shows, YouTube channels, the House of David series on Amazon, all of it running on big Nephilim energy. Cynthia Shafer-Elliott does not watch any of it, because it makes her yell at the screen. (Her husband, however, likes to watch her watch it.) She is a professor of Hebrew Bible at Baylor and an actual field archaeologist, and here is what she would rather you get excited about: in one of her first seasons at Tel Rehov, in a square she had been working, they found hundreds of ceramic beehives — industrial apiaries. Which means the land of milk and honey had actual honey. Not date syrup, not wild honey. Real, farmed, bee-produced honey. She also personally uncovered a household shrine with a lion's face carved into it, tongue out, human faces cowering under its paws. That one is in the Israel Museum now, and she says hello to it whenever she visits. We got into what "back in Bible times" and "biblical worldview" actually obscure, what household archaeology reveals about women's authority that the text buries, why ancient Israelite religion should always be plural, why lentils deserve more respect than they get, and yes — the residue analysis at Arad confirming THC at an official Israelite worship site. A lot of churches either forbid tongues in public altogether or let them run with no interpretation and no order. Scripture never actually gives you those two options. So what does the Bible prescribe for the gift of tongues in church? ABOUT THIS EPISODE:Josh, Michael, and Michael sit down with the question that splits churches on both sides of the Word and Spirit divide: what does it actually look like to practice the gifts of tongues and interpretation, named together in 1 Corinthians 12:10, in corporate worship, biblically? Not in theory, but in practice, on a Sunday, in a room full of people, with order intact and the body edified.Cessationist churches simply avoid the conversation entirely by not recognizing that the gift of tongues is still for today. Meanwhile, many charismatic churches practice tongues publicly with real sincerity but without the structure Paul actually prescribed: no clear call for interpretation, no one recognized as an interpreter of tongues, no accountability, no sense of "let it be done for building up," for the edification of the church (1 Corinthians 14:26). Jeremiah closes with the tragic fall of Jerusalem. The city is burned, the temple is destroyed, King Zedekiah is blinded, and God's people are carried into exile. It is a devastating picture of a king and kingdom brought low. But our reading does not end in the ruins. Revelation opens with John's vision of Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the first to rise from the dead, and the ruler of all the kings of the world. This King has eyes like flames of fire, feet like polished bronze, and a voice like mighty ocean waves. Today's devotion reminds us that Christ enters the ruins of our lives, gathers the exiles, and leads us home. The story does not end in captivity, fear, or defeat. Because of Jesus, it will end with a song of deliverance, freedom, joy, and love. TODAY'S DEVOTION: It will end with a song. Today, for the first time this year, we finished a book of the Bible. And Jeremiah ends with a song of exile and judgment. We read of a king and a kingdom brought low. Zedekiah is blinded. Jerusalem is reduced to rubble. The temple is burned, and the people are sent away from their home. But the story does not end in ruin. From the ruins of Jeremiah, we move into John's vision in Revelation. And in that vision, we see hope rising from the ashes. Someone like the Son of Man emerges. He is a King far greater than Zedekiah. His eyes are like flames of fire. A gold sash crosses his chest. His feet are like polished bronze refined in a furnace, and his voice is as mighty as ocean waves. This is our King. This is Jesus. And this King gathers all the exiles. He gathers the broken, the fearful, the defeated, and those who have known captivity in body, soul, or spirit. He seeks out those who have been crushed beneath the weight of ruins, those who have been scattered and long to find their way home. To every exile, he offers a new kingdom and a new song. It is not a song of despair, but a song of deliverance and hope. The psalmist gives us the words: "May there be no enemy breaking through our walls, no going into captivity, no cries of alarm in our town squares. Yes, joyful are those who live like this! Joyful indeed are those whose God is the Lord." This is not simply the ending of today's Scripture reading. It is the ending of our story too. Our lives, no matter how marked by ruin or exile, will end with a song that leads us forward into eternal life. Our King has come, and there is none like him. So let this song, the song of his love and freedom, take root in your heart. Grow more convinced and more devoted to its message. His love sets us free. And this love is not only for us. It is for the world. For God so loved the world. Whatever ruins you see today, do not mistake them for the end of the story. Whatever exile you are experiencing, do not believe that you have been forgotten. The risen King is gathering his people. He walks among us. His voice is like mighty waters, and his word to the frightened and fallen is still the same: "Don't be afraid." The story will end with a song. That's the prayer I have for my own soul today. That's the prayer I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, and my son. And that's the prayer I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.   And now Lord,  make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon.  Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope.  Where there is darkness, light.  And where there is sadness,  Joy.  Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love.  For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life.  Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray...
