This week, the boys return to 1989 for the second time to discuss “The Abyss”, James Cameron's underwater sci-fi thriller that paved the way for much of T2 and Titanic. Starring Ed Harris, May Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and Michael Biehn, the film looks real… because it is! After John kicks things off with a mini-review of “Last Breath”, we set up what was happening in 1989 before diving deep into the film. I have a movie telling a harrowing true life tale about a deep sea, or saturation, diver in mortal peril this week called “Last Breath.” It stars Woody Harrelson, Simu Liu, Finn Cole and Cliff Curtis. As you know, there are thousands of miles of pipes in the ocean and somebody has to maintain them. That's where saturation divers come in. They dive to dangerous depths out in the middle of freezing cold, dark oceans, so deep they have to compress and decompress for four days. The movie centers on three divers, Chris, Dave and Duncan, who are all on the same diving team. As you'd imagine, the oceans can get pretty rough and that's what happens in this movie that ends up being one of the reasons for this ordeal. Circumstances have it to where Chris is disconnected from everyone else on the ocean floor with only ten minutes of oxygen. Thanks to the rough oceans, and the ship losing its computerized system that keeps the ship sitting still in one place, the ship gets further and further away from Chris. Can the rest of the crew make it back to Chris in time or will it just be a body recovery operation? Is it worth going to the theater to find out? Check out this episode to find out. “Last Breath” also stars Mark Bonnar, MyAnna Buring, Josef Altin, Bobby Rainsbury, Connor Reed, Nick Biadon and Riz Khan. Support the showFeel free to reach out to me via:@MoviesMerica on Twitter @moviesmerica on InstagramMovies Merica on Facebook

Is crime increasing? Is the world less safe? Do we need more police on the streets? And who is Bible John? In this epsiode, Professor David Wilson and Emilia Fox talk about popular crime myths and the mysterious circumstances around some of the most notorious unsolved crimes. Why do we label seriel killers with nicknames? And how can we hope to solve crimes distorted by widely held beliefs of inaccurate information. David and Emilia start by looking at the infamous scottish seriel killer Bible John. Does he exist? Or is he a media tool used to sell papers? To find out they talk to Journalist Jane Hamilton who has spend a career researching and reporting on serious crime and Bible John. David thinks he knows Bible John's real identity, but Jane isn't so sure. So is this another urban myth? And to explore crime myth even further David and Emilia talk to Mark Bonnar, star of Line of Duty, Taggart, Silent Witness, Unforgotten and many more. They discover how Mark became obsessed with True Crime, his theories on popular crime myths and how he puts himself into the minds of the roles he plays in the criminal world. This week Christian Cawley chats with Cutaway Comics' Gareth Kavanagh about Lytton, Omega, Brian Blessed, and accidentally discovering crowdfunding. Doctor Who fandom has been gifted with rare treats over the years, from comics and novels to audiobooks, audio plays, and independent movies. Anyone engaged with Doctor Who is aware of at least one of these alternate spins on the so-called "Whoniverse" but such productions are often limited by licenses. After all, the BBC owns Doctor Who. But, the corporation does not own the characters created by non-BBC writers who worked on the classic series. That's where Cutaway Comics comes in.  In this week's show, Gareth Kavanagh tells us all about Cutaway Comics, its early success with the Eric Saward-approved Lytton, the development of Omega, and just how he got Brian Blessed involved to record the audio adaptation which was fulfilled thanks to support on Kickstarter. Review from Tin Dog Podcast   2.1 Beachhead by Nicholas Briggs In an attempt to recharge his batteries after his confrontation with the Eleven, the Doctor takes Liv and Helen to the sleepy English seaside village of Stegmoor. But they find the village in turmoil and, to make matters worse, their arrival uncovers a mystery from the Doctor's past which threatens the future safety of the planet. Can the Doctor prevent the Voord from invading Earth? And more importantly why have they come in the first place? 2.2 Scenes from Her Life by John Dorney Investigating the appearance of the Voord on Earth, the Doctor, Liv and Helen follow a trail which takes them to the other side of the universe. There they discover a mysterious and almost deserted gothic city lost in space and time, in which the grotesque inhabitants are conducting a vile and inhumane experiment. The Doctor and his companions must hurry to save the lives of those in danger before the experiment is a success and the unimaginable consequences become all too real. 2.3 The Gift by Marc Platt The TARDIS deposits its crew on Earth in San Francisco, 1906. There they find an actor-manager desperate to stage his definitive production of King Lear. But a real storm is headed their way when he becomes the possessor of a mysterious psychic ‘Gift' which is hungry for power and intent on wreaking havoc and destruction. But exposure to so much psychic activity has the Doctor becoming increasingly erratic. Can he battle his demons and save the world? 2.4 The Sonomancer by Matt Fitton On the other side of the galaxy a mining company is exploiting the already unstable planet of Syra for every precious mineral it contains. River Song is attempting to save the native people. She needs the Doctor's help, but she also knows he mustn't yet discover her true identity. 1. The Eleven by Matt Fitton The Eleven. A Time Lord whose previous personalities live on in his mind: arguing, plotting, jostling for supremacy... He is also Gallifrey's most dangerous criminal. And he has escaped. The Doctor is recalled to his homeworld to lead the hunt. As they search the Capitol's corridors of power, the Academy halls and the cells of the highest security penitentiary, Liv realises the worst monsters may be among the Doctor's own people. For inside his fractured mind, the Eleven has a plan. And its deadly consequences will extend through space and time... 2. The Red Lady by John Dorney An anomaly in time brings the Doctor and Liv to London in the 1960s, where they meet a young lady named Helen Sinclair - desperately trying to make a name for herself in the face of sexism and prejudice. Whilst the Doctor tried to uncover the secrets of a mysterious artefact, a far deadlier mystery awaits Liv and Helen in the collection of a recently deceased antiquarian. Because that's where they find the Red Lady. Because if you do, you might not like what you see. 3. The Galileo Trap by Marc Platt Helen Sinclair doesn't know what hit her. One moment she was trapped in a dead-end job in 1960s London, and now she is transported back to Renaissance Italy over three centuries before. Florence is a city in turmoil. A new plague stalks the streets. A ferocious behemoth rampages through the vineyards. And Galileo Galilei, celebrated scientist, astronomer and old friend of the Doctor, is imprisoned in his own villa for heresy. But why has Galileo summoned the Doctor? Who are the mysterious Fortuna and Cleaver? Why have they been sent to Earth? And what is Galileo's secret? Is it the last thing he saw before he went blind? 4. The Satanic Mill by Edward Collier The Satanic Mill - a vast Victorian factory floating in the deep of space. As the Doctor closes in on his quarry, long buried animosities come boiling to the surface on this ancient and powerful satellite, in a final confrontation that could have unimaginable consequences. And even that is only the beginning...
