BOATS THIS WEEK (AUG 19-25,2024) — Historical events from the movies start with The Crucible and how it depicts the Salem witch trials from this week in 1692. Then, we'll learn a bit about Patsy Cline's hit song "Crazy" because it was this week in 1961 that she started recording it in the studio, and that's shown in the 1985 biopic about her life called Sweet Dreams. For our third event, we'll learn about the eruption of Mount Vesuvius as it was shown in the movie Pompeii. Editor's note: The filmmakers couldn't have known this, but there's a good chance it didn't actually happen this week in history. Listen to the episode to learn more. Until next time, here's where you can continue the story. Events from this week in history Monday: The Crucible Wednesday: Sweet Dreams Saturday: Pompeii Birthdays from this week in history Friday: King Louis XVI of France in Marie Antionette Saturday: William Wilberforce in Amazing Grace Sunday: Ivan Vasilyevich "Ivan the Terrible" in Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian Historical movie released this week in history Wednesday: Inglorious Basterds Also mentioned in this episode Photos from the real Pompeii Schindler's List with Dr. Dan McMillan Did you enjoy this episode? Welcome back to another episode of Bad Dads Film Review! Today, we're embarking on a journey that spans the monumental to the microscopic, starting with our top 5 iconic statues in film, blasting off with First Man, and then warping to the comedic cosmos of Lower Decks.Top 5 Iconic Statues in Film (which may or may not make our list....):The Statue of Liberty in Planet of the Apes (1968) - The unforgettable reveal of the half-buried statue is a powerful symbol of a fallen civilization and one of cinema's most iconic moments.Christ the Redeemer in Fast Five (2011) - Towering over Rio de Janeiro, this statue provides a stunning backdrop to the high-octane heist. The Lincoln Memorial in Forrest Gump (1994) - Forrest's speech at this iconic monument is a touching moment that blends history with the film's heartfelt narrative. The Thinker in Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (2009) - Brings humour and life to the famous sculpture, making it a memorable character in its own right.Mount Rushmore in North by Northwest (1959) - The thrilling climax on the faces of this monumental sculpture is one of Hitchcock's most memorable scenes.Main Feature - First Man:Next, we strap in for a cinematic journey with First Man, directed by Damien Chazelle and starring Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong. This biographical drama offers an intimate, pulse-pounding look at the life of the astronaut and the legendary space mission that led him to become the first man to walk on the moon. It's a film that combines personal sacrifice, bravery, and the awe-inspiring wonder of space exploration.Kids TV - Lower Decks:For the little ones, and let's be honest, the adults too, we're taking a detour to the final frontier with Star Trek: Lower Decks. This animated series offers a hilarious take on the Star Trek universe, focusing on the support crew serving on one of Starfleet's least important ships. It's a fresh and funny perspective on the sci-fi we all know and love, proving that heroes come in all ranks.Whether you're a fan of monumental cinema, space exploration, or interstellar laughs, today's episode has something for everyone. So join us on Bad Dads Film Review as we explore the iconic, the historic, and the hysterical.

Because America rules, it's another episode of The Deucecast Movie Show! Last week, Dave, Mikey, and #TwitterlessDrEarl, with special guest Lil G Ryfun, the pride of South TyTy Georgia, gave their lists of the most patriotic roles in movies... and a funny thing happened -- they all seemed to be dudes. So what better way to reconcile this blunder than to do an all female list of patriotic roles, which, like last week, is really just a list of awesome American characters in films that all the guys decided to dub "patriotic", but #Merica anyway. First up, though, a rousing game of Ryan Phillippe, with everyone from Sigourney Weaver to one Christopher Pratt being called out. Then, the list, which includes Mikey's total misunderstanding (and defense of Padme)... #TwitterlessDrEarl goes old school again... who won what award in Hidden Figures and The Help... Lil G Ryfun squeezes in a Nolan... Emily Blunt gets double action... an Amy Adams discussion and it's not from d$... and much more. Where the movies discussed on this episode are streaming at the time of this recording: The American President (Hulu) Broadcast News (DirecTV) Edge of Tomorrow (Live.Die.Repeat) (USA Network) Erin Brockovich (fubo; DirecTV) The Girl in White (1952) (fubo) The Fast & Furious (fubo; Pluto TV) Foxy Brown (The Criterion Channel) Harriet (HBO Max) Hidden Figures (FX Now) Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of This Movie Sucks (Netflix) Interstellar (FX Now) League of Their Own (rental) Lethal Weapon 3 (fubo) Lethal Weapon 4 (fubo) Live.Die.Repeat (Edge of Tomorrow) (USA Network) Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (Starz) Raiders of the Lost Ark (Netflix) Sicario (FX Now) Silence of the Lambs (Amazon Prime) Something the Lord Made (HBO Max) Terminator 2: Judgement Day (fubo; Showtime) Working Girl (DirecTV) Zero Dark Thirty (IMDb TV)

Hey, easy with the podcasting already! We hope you don’t say that to us, or to tell Degas you’ve had enough of his dancers already. We’re feeling super cultured in this episode, discussing paintings, sculptures, and other works worthy of art museums from the Impressionist artist Edgar Degas. How was he different from other Impressionist artists? Why did Sookie compare her cooking to his dancers? And why mustn’t Taylor meet any of her heroes? We cover all that, plus we finally uncover the answer to a pop culture ref we investigated last season and didn’t feel like we fully understood by the end of the episode. Two refs for the same price of a free episode! You’re the Best/You’re the Worst: Sookie moments Other pop culture we ref: Funny Face, La La Land, HQ Trivia, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Thomas Crown Affair, Misty Copeland, Errol Flynn, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off https://soitsashowpodcast.tumblr.comhttps://tinyletter.com/soitsashow
Hank Azaria's resume includes the following sections : actor, voice actor, comedian and producer. Prior to April 5th of last year ,he was probably best know for starring in theThe Simpsons for the past 28 years, voicing Moe Szyslak, Apu , Chief Wiggum, Comic Book Guy, Carl Carlson and many others. His screen credits include his memorable performance in The Birdcage (1996), Godzilla (1998), Mystery Alaska (1999), America's Sweethearts (2001), Shattered Glass (2003), Along Came Polly (2004), , Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (2009), and The Smurfs (2011) Only time will tell but I have a feeling that his role as the title character in iFC's Brockmire. may eclipse all of that which is saying something as he is a six time Emmy and a Screen Actors Guild Award winner. He joins Mark and AJ to talk about his hit show Brockmire.
