Ben shares the Daikin philosophy of people-centered management — including why a failed employee is a manager's failure, not the employee's — the concept of "vigorous dialogue" and why smart leaders avoid yes-people, and the powerful "100 pennies" open-books exercise that transformed his own company's culture. Matt and Ben also tackle the big questions every contractor is wrestling with right now: whether to sell, how to build a legacy, why every business needs a mission their employees actually believe in, and why "what if I train them and they leave?" is the wrong question to ask. If you're a contractor, manager, or owner navigating uncertainty and wondering how to lead your people better, this one delivers.Social Media Links:InstagramTNFR- https://www.instagram.com/thenewflatrateDaikin- https://www.instagram.com/daikincomfort/?hl=enFacebookTNFR- https://www.facebook.com/TheNewFlatRateDaikin- https://www.facebook.com/DaikinComfort/LinkedInTNFR- https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-new-flat-rate-inc-/posts/?feedView=allBen Middleton- https://www.linkedin.com/in/ben-middleton-a94571a/Daikin- https://www.linkedin.com/company/daikin-comfort-technologies/home/Links and Resourceshttps://thenewflatrate.com/https://www.daikinapplied.com/https://daikincomfort.com/https://r32reasons.com/https://www.hvaclearningcampus.com/Subscribe to Ben's podcast: https://www.youtube.com/@acceleratedhvacsuccess6915https://open.spotify.com/show/2D7NiCR68Jg9TMMy3wDOna

A lot of contractors are great at their trade but end up stuck when it comes to pricing their work in a way that reflects its real value. The old way of quoting jobs—flat fees or guessing what the customer will accept—just doesn't cut it anymore. Too often, it means walking away from jobs with less money than you should've earned, even when you did everything right. A smarter pricing system doesn't just help with the numbers—it changes how customers see the value of what you're offering. And when that clicks, the whole business starts to feel less like a hustle and more like it's finally working for you. Danielle Putnam is the president of The New Flat Rate, a company revolutionizing pricing for home service contractors through menu-based systems. Coming from a multigenerational background in HVAC and plumbing, Danielle knows the industry inside and out. Today, she emphasizes how offering tiered pricing options empowers technicians to close higher-value jobs, improve customer satisfaction, and boost earnings—without feeling like salespeople. She also addresses common pushbacks to adopting new pricing models and how a strategic pricing reset can drive long-term business growth and technician confidence. Stay tuned!
