ACHR NEWS Editorial Director Kyle Gargaro talked with Rodney Koop of the New Flat Rate to understand how homeowners decide to purchase a new HVAC system.
Blue Is The New White: Episode #155 Today's guest is a hell of an entrepreneur. And actually knew that's what she wanted to be since she was just a kid. Danielle Putnam, president of The New Flat Rate, joins us today to talk about her journey to get to where she is today. From a long line of trade professionals, Danielle was no stranger to the world of work. Just after high school she joined a company that took her to 25 different countries leading their marketing efforts. Then she went to work with her dad at his home service business before jetting off to Portland for school. She got involved with a startup, lived her dream of setting foot on the NY stock exchange, and then moved back again to help her dad. That's when the new flat rate was born, a menu pricing system for home service contractors. Since then she has begun to offer Freedom Builders, a ride along & coaching program. Got involved with Trade Jobs to help fill the skilled trades gap (launching in October). And sits on the advisory board for Women in HVACR. Don't forget to subscribe to this channel, and on our website blueisthenewwhite.com to receive all the latest updates. You can now find this podcast on Iheart Radio, Sirius XM, and Pandora. As always, we rely on the word of mouth from our listeners to further the mission. So if you enjoyed this episode, please take a moment to rate, review, and share. She started TNFR quite literally in her father's garage. She grew up in the family business of contracting before leaving for 11 years. She returned with solid training in business work environments and she credits that time with founding a solid peer aspect to her relationship with her father, respect that served both well in working together. From a young age Danielle learned to hone her entrepreneurial spirit; she got a job cleaning for a neighbor at age 12 so she could buy her own clothes, a move encouraged by her mother. Now with her tech company, The New Flat Rate, she provides the sales platform needed to increase cash flow for small businesses in the heating, air, electrical and plumbing home services industries. TNFR is rolling out beta for chimneys and launched an indoor air quality app last year. But Danielle is looking to learn more about leadership and wants to lean in to saying no to distracting opportunities so she can focus on enabling employees with challenges and zeroing in on what her business truly needs to grow. In this episode of What CEOs Talk About, host Martin Hunter and Danielle Putnam explore all the ways in which saying yes to too many things, such a necessary attribute in the starting years of business, must evolve into saying no to more things once the business is stable. They discuss how they keep devoted family time in balance while leading busy work lives and Danielle shares her recent gains in the art of saying ‘no' for the right reasons. You know our industry has been such a if you ever watch the Anchorman, it's like old old wooden ship that is super slow. And that has been our industry forever. If you listened very much at all, you'll hear me say over and over that anything that's been done exactly the same way for over 50 years is ripe for revolution. So it is time to up level our game. Let's stop being weird and start selling. As we always say on this podcast, so I'd love to take a second and introduce someone who has been in the industry basically her whole life, and it's hardly say it's a her and but she's so she's third generation a track. Also she is. With the company now that is on the forefront of leading the way into change, helping us up level with just partnerships that they have with. So much about the way that we do things and helping everyone become so much smoother in their process and their systems. And yes, welcome to podcast today. This is Danielle Putnam. she is president of the new flat rate. I don't know if you've ever heard of the new flat rate, but I'll tell you what I've been from the get go in when I got it street. That was one of the very first things that the very first company the service that we use right off the at the start to go from. Time and materials like everybody kind of seems to start with into flat rate pricing and we never looked back from our very first month of using it. We became dramatically more profitable and the margins went up just an insane amount and would never turn back. We never went back to anything else except for. From that moment on we Flat rated everything and the whole world change for us, and so she's going to talk a little bit about that as in. She's also one of the big things that you hear me on this podcast here. Talk about a lot is the value of women in our industry. She's on the Advisory Board of women in HVAC. You know what what's gotten, you where you are. President new flowery but you know, kind of the oranges of that. Why what got started there? D: Well, when I was young I thought someday in life I'm going to be successful when I have a flip phone and you know, of course. Long time ago I didn't have a cell phone at all. But in the future I was going to have a flip phone. What I figured by then. I remember that there was a bag phone in my dad's car. He was a contractor, you know. So he had this bag phone. Anytime I got to borrow his car I got to use it. I felt so cool. 'cause you know everybody else was still using pagers but someday I was going to have a flip phone because I wanted to be an entrepreneur. Wanted to be a business person and that was a picture of success for me. It wasn't in dollars. It was when I can wear high heels in business suits and have a flip phone. I'm going to be successful so that, you know. But what I love about growing up in the trades. I feel I was...
