#105: What happens when one decision changes the trajectory of your life? In this episode of Reckoning, I sit down with James Stone to talk about his incredible journey from addiction and unhealthy habits to living with purpose, discipline, and intention. James shares the honest story of the night he decided enough was enough, how he began his fitness journey with nothing more than an old tire, a hand-me-down treadmill, and a pull-up bar on his front porch, and how that decision ultimately led him to win the MTN OPS Conquer Challenge, day hike Mount Whitney, complete ultra races and rucks, and build a life he's proud of. We also dive into: • Growing up in Texas and being introduced to the outdoors • Hunting, fitness, and fatherhood • His sobriety journey and navigating the social side of giving up alcohol • Building discipline when motivation fades • His community, The Forged Union, and helping other men become stronger in every area of life James was incredibly open throughout this conversation, and I'm so grateful he trusted us with his story. Whether you're working toward better health, considering cutting back on alcohol, chasing a goal, or simply looking for encouragement, I think you'll find something in this episode that resonates.  Follow James: https://www.instagram.com/jamesstone1933 and www.theforgedunion.com  Chapters:  00:00 Introduction and Background 05:36 Transition to Hunting and Archery 11:41 Life Changes and the Impact of Alcohol 14:44 Struggles with Addiction and Family Dynamics 17:29 Turning Point and Journey to Sobriety 20:31 Health and Fitness Transformation 23:31 Navigating Social Situations Post-Sobriety 26:29 Reflections on Family and Relationships 29:28 Conclusion and Future Aspirations 30:34 Building a Home Gym and Fitness Journey 34:11 Diet Changes and Alcohol Impact 35:49 Meal Prep Strategies for Success 36:55 Endurance Training and New Goals 38:44 Winning the Mountain Ops Challenge 40:58 Summiting Mount Whitney 45:18 Transitioning to Ultra Marathons 46:14 The Challenge of Trail Running 54:17 Evolving Training and Aging 57:08 Discipline and Motivation in Fitness 58:01 Understanding ADHD and Personal Growth 59:23 Supporting Loved Ones in Recovery 01:00:45 The Role of Honesty in Relationships 01:01:36 Emotional Support in Health Journeys 01:03:19 Building a Community for Men 01:04:29 The Forge Union: A New Initiative 01:06:23 Navigating Personal Change and Growth 01:10:00 Bucket List Adventures and Hunting Dreams 01:18:22 Favorite Wild Game Recipes and Snacks 01:21:28 Current Challenges and Future Aspirations Get our FAVORITE links, codes & more here! In Episode 182 of the Best Coach Ever podcast, we're diving into one of the most avoided—but highest converting—skills in online business: direct message strategy. If DMs make you cringe, feel awkward, or like you're about to become “that person”… this episode is going to completely reframe how you think about them. We're breaking down why relying on content alone isn't enough anymore, how buyer behavior has shifted into silent lurking, and why you often have to initiate the conversation if you want consistent sales. But don't worry—this is NOT about cold messaging strangers or blasting spammy pitches.Instead, you'll learn how to approach DMs like a human, build genuine connection, and naturally guide conversations toward sales (without forcing anything). We also unpack exactly why people ghost, how to know if someone is actually a qualified lead, and the simple flow to move from casual conversation to client—without ever feeling salesy. If you've been avoiding your DMs or feel like you're “doing it wrong,” this episode will give you a practical, low-pressure approach that actually works in 2026.If you love this episode, don't forget to leave a 5-star rating and a quick review. It's the best way to support the podcast and help us keep bringing you real, honest conversations like this one.In this episode, we cover:1) Why DM Strategy Matters More Than Ever [0:00 - 5:12]-Engagement is down—most buyers are lurking, not initiating conversationsContent starts interest, but DMs are what actually close clients2) The Biggest DM Misconception (And Why It Feels Icky) [5:13 - 9:45]-The problem isn't DMs—it's going in with “I need to sell” energy-Why forcing outcomes makes conversations feel awkward and unnatural3) The New Goal of DMs: Connection Over Conversion [9:46 - 14:20]-Treating DMs as relationship-building, not a sales machine-Why clean, detached energy leads to better conversations (and more sales)4) The 4-Step Conversation Flow That Leads to Clients [14:21 - 22:10]-Identify: Do they actually have a problem?-Qualify: Motivation + urgency determine if they're a real lead5) How to Transition Into a Sale Naturally [22:11 - 26:45]-Why pitching should feel like the next logical step, not a jump-Framing offers as support—not persuasion or pressure6) Why People Ghost (And What It Actually Means) [26:46 - 31:30]-Most ghosting isn't rejection—it's timing, fear, or lack of readiness-Common mistakes: pitching too early or shifting into “sales mode” abruptly7) Follow-Ups, Detachment & Playing the Long Game [31:31 - End]-Simple, low-pressure follow-up strategy that keeps doors open-Why many “ghosts” come back later and become clients anywayConnect with Lynette:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lynettemariehFitness Coaching Business Accelerator: https://fcbaprogram.comThe Wellness CEO Mastermind: https://wcmprogram.com

Welcome to episode 290 of the Women's Running podcast. I'm your host Esther Newman and she's your other host Holly Taylor. On this podcast we talk about health, politics, stuff on TV and what we ate last night. Occasionally, we talk about running. We're talking about What's Next? Hol has her half marathon goal coming up in March, and she's already looking beyond that to work out what she's going to do after then. I'm staying tight lipped about my own bumpy journey as I can't quite look round the next corner yet, let alone the next training block. Mid way through our ramble we are joined by the incredible Imo Boddy. Imo BoddyImo has taken on some of the biggest challenges in the UK at a ludicrously young age. She chats through her huge running feats, how she's done them, the support she needs, and why she thinks ultras are the best distance! Running controversiesWe come back after chatting to Imo to talk about a controversy I read about in the press: in terms of relationship breakdowns, is running an ultra the ultimate red flag? And we also have a listener question on postnatal pelvic health, which I become enraged about. In Episode 358 of the Mixing Music Podcast, hosts Dee Kei and Lu do a loose “New Year, New Goals” conversation focused on real, practical upgrades for working engineers, both technical and career-related. They start with the career side: how easy it is to get comfortable when work is steady, and why that comfort can quietly turn into less outreach, fewer in-person hangs, and slower networking. The guys talk about rebuilding the habit of showing up, saying hi, staying visible, and keeping relationships warm, even when you do not feel desperate for the next client. On the technical side, Dee Kei shares a simple but powerful listening habit for 2026: mixing at lower monitor volume more intentionally. He describes how turning the monitors down can instantly reveal vocal level problems and balance issues, especially when comparing what a limiter is doing to your drums and mix shape. They also get into the challenge of mixing a live performance EP to sound as close to the studio record as possible, including the reality of trying to make live drums feel more like samples. From there, the conversation turns into “skill stacking” and education. They talk about learning tools you may not personally prefer, simply because certain environments demand them, like Pro Tools in many studio workflows or Digico consoles in a lot of festival and live sound situations. They discuss the idea of getting Digico certified, what high-end live consoles are built for (including redundancy features), and why expanding your toolset can help you scale into bigger gigs. They also explore an unexpectedly practical idea: taking community college courses for cheap, from Pro Tools and recording classes to music business, marketing, and even basic economics and personal finance. The point is not chasing a degree, it is staying sharp, learning from experienced teachers, and intentionally investing in growth without going into debt. They wrap the episode by encouraging listeners to choose a technical goal for the year and keep it front of mind, plus a few fun side tangents that are very on brand.SUBSCRIBE TO OUR PATREON FOR EXCLUSIVE CONTENT!SUBSCRIBE TO YOUTUBEJoin the ‘Mixing Music Podcast' Discord!HIRE DEE KEIHIRE LUHIRE JAMESFind Dee Kei and Lu on Social Media:Instagram: @DeeKeiMixes @MasteredbyLu @JamesParrishMixesTwitter: @DeeKeiMixes @MasteredbyLuThe Mixing Music Podcast is sponsored by Izotope, Antares (Auto Tune), Sweetwater, Plugin Boutique, Lauten Audio, Filepass, & CanvaThe Mixing Music Podcast is a video and audio series on the art of music production and post-production. In this kickoff episode for 2026, Brandon Bombardo and Nick Peters dive into why January is the "bridge month" that determines your success for the entire year. Many businesses lose momentum after the Q4 grind, but we're discussing why taking your foot off the gas now is the most dangerous mistake you can make for your annual goals. We break down the "January Reputation"—the myth that customers aren't buying and that it's okay to ramp up slowly. The reality is that your competitors aren't resting, and every day you spend "catching your breath" is a day they are winning your future customers. We also tackle listener feedback, including how to find our free cabinet-making tutorials and a deep dive into the true ROI of ShopSabre CNC machines. Before Setting New Goals, Listen to This  Before setting goals for the new year, there's an important step most leaders miss. Rather than rushing to define what's next, gaining clarity is key. Career clarity doesn't come from pushing harder. It comes from pausing long enough to notice what no longer fits. In this reflective episode, Blake invites you to look back at the patterns you've been carrying and consider what may be quietly draining your energy. If you feel on the brink of change, this conversation will meet you right where you are. This is about creating impact with more ease, not more effort. Episode Highlights A Different Kind of Year-End Pause [01:15] - Why it isn't about doing more [02:10] - The power of listening before planning The Hidden Patterns Leaders Carry [03:30] - Why we cling to what once worked [04:20] - How outdated success rules drain energy [05:10] - When something no longer fits The "Brink" of Change [05:45] - Why uncertainty often feels quiet [06:15] - The space between clarity and confusion [06:40] - Trusting the signals you're receiving A New Way for Leaders [07:50] - Raising the floor vs. reaching higher [08:10] - Three questions before you set goals   Powerful Quotes "We don't cling to things because we're stuck. We cling to them because they once worked." -Blake Schofield "Ease doesn't come from doing less of what matters. It comes from letting go of what no longer does." -Blake Schofield "Clarity often comes after we let go, not before." -Blake Schofield   Resources Mentioned  Drained at the end of the day & want more presence in your life? As runners, it's so easy to look back on a year and immediately zoom in on what didn't go as planned — the missed runs, the injuries, the goals we didn't hit. In this episode, we slow things down and invite you into a different kind of reflection — one rooted in curiosity, compassion, and growth rather than judgment. We guide you through a thoughtful process to reflect on your year in running, helping you notice both the visible wins and the quieter moments that shaped you along the way. Instead of asking, “Was this a good year or a bad year?” we explore more meaningful questions like: What supported you? What challenged you? What did your body and mind teach you? You'll be prompted with reflective questions designed to help you:Celebrate the wins you might be overlookingLearn from setbacks without attaching shame or frustrationRecognize patterns in your training, recovery, and mindsetUnderstand what truly helped you stay consistent (and what didn't)We also talk about the importance of separating who you are as a runner from any single race, pace, or performance — and how identity-based intentions can create more sustainable motivation and joy moving forward. This episode isn't about setting rigid goals or forcing a fresh start. It's about integration — taking the lessons from this year and carrying them forward in a way that feels supportive, intentional, and aligned with the runner you want to continue becoming. If you've ever felt stuck, disappointed, or unsure about how to move into a new season of running, this conversation will help you reflect with clarity, confidence, and self-trust.

As the year comes to an end, it's natural to start thinking about goals — getting fit, saving money, improving relationships, or managing time better. But before you rush into setting goals for 2026, this episode invites you to pause and consider something far more important: your character. In this episode, we talk about why character matters more than success, achievement, or influence. When we grow spiritually and become more like Christ, every other area of life is impacted naturally. We reflect on the life of Jesus — His obedience to the Father, His love for people, and His humility in leadership. We also revisit the powerful moment between Jesus and Peter after Peter's denial, where Jesus restores him and calls him not just to say he loves Him, but to serve Him. Using 2 Corinthians 3:18 and John 21:15–17, this conversation challenges Christian leaders to reflect honestly: Does my life reflect Christ? And have I truly committed my life to Him? If you're ending the year in reflection and preparing for what's next, this episode will help you realign your heart, your leadership, and your priorities with what matters most.   Pam is currently working on a program that will help you become the Leader we all know you can become. A long-term analysis of major prediabetes trials found that achieving remission or returning glucose levels to normal was associated with over a 50% reduction in cardiovascular death or heart failure, with durable benefits decades later; delaying diabetes without remission did not show similar benefit. A randomized trial in critically ill adults found no difference in 28-day mortality between ketamine and etomidate for intubation, though ketamine increased the risk of cardiovascular collapse. Finally, molecular data showed indoor tanning causes widespread DNA mutations linked to melanoma, reinforcing its carcinogenic risk.

It's one of my favorite conversations. So, I say, if you're an avid listener, there's a chance you'll know how much I appreciate the conversation I had with Ryan. For many reasons I could list again, mainly covering how the conversation was filled with a lot of very fun stories and reminders to just live life and let yourself experience things, and this episode, is such a great follow up to that. So while Ryan shares many new fun stories of what he's been up to with his music project Huge Euge, the crazy story of playing Riot Fest, and a lot of other fun stuff I've come to expect from him, he actually also opens up about grief and processing the loss of his mom. I'm incredibly thankful for Ryan being as open as he is in this conversation and I just can't say how much I appreciate him sharing all the highs and the deepest of lows in this one. And for all of that, it's a really great conversation that I'm very excited to share with you guys. A breakthrough race is intoxicating. Running a big Personal Best is a clear sign that you're training well, thriving, and on the right track. But what happens next? What happens after you run a big PR and your season comes to an end? How do you keep the momentum going, while still respecting recovery and your need for down-time?  This episode is a repost of a conversation on the Elevate Your Running podcast with coach Sara Manderscheid. We talk about: Recovery is a real phase of training. Learn how long to rest and why it's more than physical. Race analysis and reflection: Discover how to learn from your recent race, identifying both successes and areas for improvement. New Goals or No?: Explore diverse approaches to planning your next training cycle. Smart base rebuilding: Find effective strategies for a gradual and consistent return to training. Preventing burnout and staying motivated: Keep your passion for running strong, even during the off-season.
