Political analyst and African National Congress (ANC) insider Oscar van Heerden is predicting that the ANC's electoral support will not fall below 50% in the upcoming May elections, while hoping for an outright majority win for any political party, rather than the eventuality of a coalition government. Van Heerden was speaking exclusively with Polity to discuss his latest book Is the Party Over?, when he hedged that if there was significant voter apathy then perhaps the ANC could dip below 50%, but even then he imagined support would not fall below 47% or 48%. Support for the ANC is plunging, and the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party backed by former President Jacob Zuma may become the country's third-biggest after next month's election, a new opinion poll showed. However, Van Heerden dismissed election polling as problematic, explaining that it reflected how a small sample of people felt on the day. He referred to some of the polls as "ridiculous". He admitted that the ANC, at the moment, was "not the favourite party", noting that "everyone hates the ANC" and that people "talk bad about the party". However, he highlighted that looking at the trends of the last few elections, the ANC's support had been waning but consistently, with a drop of about 3% to 4% per election in electoral support. "When you stand at 67.5%, to suggest that the ANC is going to lose more than 10% of their support base, the ANC would have to have really done badly," he noted. Van Heerden said "the truth of the matter is" that 30 years into democracy most black South Africans, are "far better off" than they were pre-1994. He said people now had rights, including a right to vote. Although there were still challenges with poverty, unemployment and inequality, he said this was something that could not change overnight. COALITION GOVERNMENT Van Heerden expressed concerns with coalition politics, saying it seemed as though the country was not getting it right. He said should the ANC fall below 47% or 48% of support, then it would have to form a coalition with smaller parties, which he said was likely to be the Inkatha Freedom Party "because the politics of KZN must be satisfied". He acknowledged that the newly formed MK Party led by Zuma would also play a role. He predicted a small coalition, where the ANC was still the dominant ruling party nationally. However, he foresaw problems in KZN and Gauteng. "I will rather want any particular grouping to outright win, I am not saying it must be the ANC but I think that will be a more stable factor than having coalitions at national level," he said. He highlighted that the electorate wanted stability and familiarity, predicting that if the ANC won the elections, he did not think President Cyril Ramaphosa would retain Paul Mashatile as Deputy President. He said Ramaphosa might bring in someone new. "…someone no one thought it could be. And he is basically sending a message that this is the future of the party once I leave," Van Heerden said. IDENTITY POLITICS Meanwhile, he believes that citizens are "not getting it right" in terms of building a cohesive society, noting that people are not voting for the party whose policies they believe in, but rather for the race or religion the parties represent. He highlighted that people still voted according to identity politics, explaining that Gayton Mackenzie's Patriotic Alliance was getting more attention from the coloured community, because "he plays the nationalist coloured card". Van Heerden pointed out that Afrikaans farmers and Afrikaans speakers were voting for the Freedom Front Plus, while English speaking people were predominately voting for the Democratic Alliance (DA). He said Muslims were voting for the Al Jama-ah party and Christians were voting for Kenneth Meshoe's African Christian Democratic Party. He noted that race was still very much present in the country and pointed out that while the DA argued that there were problems with affirmative action and black economi...

Does The Corporate and Political Persuasion In Either Party Support Nutrition For Better Health? T. Colin Campbell, PhD• https://nutritionstudies.org/ • Book - China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long Term Health #TColinCampbell#ChinaStudy #PlantBased #WoleFoodDiet T. Colin Campbell, PhD has been dedicated to the science of human health for more than 60 years. His primary focus is on the association between diet and disease, particularly cancer. Although largely known for the China Study — one of the most comprehensive studies of health and nutrition ever conducted, and recognized by The New York Times as the “Grand Prix of epidemiology” — Dr. Campbell's profound impact also includes extensive involvement in education, public policy, and laboratory research. Dr. Campbell grew up on a dairy farm and was the first in his family to go to college, where he studied pre-veterinary medicine at Pennsylvania State University. After obtaining his bachelor's degree, and while completing his first year at the University of Georgia veterinary school, he received a telegram from a well known professor at Cornell University, offering a scholarship and research opportunity too good to turn down. And so he completed his education at Cornell University (M.S., Ph.D.) and MIT (Research Associate) in nutrition, biochemistry and toxicology. He then spent 10 years on the faculty of Virginia Tech's Department of Biochemistry and Nutrition before returning to Cornell in 1975 where he presently holds his Endowed Chair as the Jacob Gould Schurman Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry in the Division of Nutritional Sciences. Dr. Campbell's research experience includes both laboratory experiments and large-scale human studies. He has received over 70 grant-years of peer-reviewed research funding (mostly with NIH), served on grant review panels of multiple funding agencies, actively participated in the development of national and international nutrition policy, and authored over 300 research papers. Throughout his career, he has confronted a great deal of confusion surrounding nutrition and its effects. It is precisely this confusion that he has focused so much on, in recent years. In order to synthesize the findings of his long and rewarding career, and to give back to the public whose lives are threatened by rampant misinformation and special interests, Dr. Campbell co-wrote The China Study: Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long-term Health, which has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide. He is also the author of the The New York Times bestseller Whole, and The Low-Carb Fraud. Several documentary films feature Dr. Campbell and his research, including Forks Over Knives, Eating You Alive, Food Matters, and PlantPure Nation. He continues to share evidence-based information on health and nutrition whenever given the opportunity. He has delivered hundreds of lectures around the world and he is the founder of the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies and the online Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate in partnership with eCornell. To Contact Dr. T. In this episode, I catchup and interview my long time friend and Hip Hop legend, Rob "Southstar" Campman. If you're my age, you will definitely remember him from the smash single "Tell Me" from his group Smiles and Southstar. The single peaked at #28 on the Billboards hot 100 and #10 on the US Hot Rap songs (Billboards) in 2003. Rob and I talked about how met on Aznraps.com which was a popular online forum for Asian rappers in the early to mid 2000s. From then on, we kept in contact via Aim (Aol) and social media. I had a lot of questions regarding the music industry and his rise to fame and Rob answered them all. He shared so many great stories from his humble beginnings, from rapping in the bathroom & getting invited to a local studio to record some raps, to playing basketball in a gym, which let to meeting Transcon Records in house producer, Dakari. Dakari played beats for him and invited him to Transcon studios and the rest was history. Smiles and Southstar got signed to Artist Direct Records and released their debut album, "Crash The Party," and made noise all over the world, touring with Beanie Man, doing shows and tv appearances on MTV, BET's Rap City, Soul Train, Late night with Conan, Jimmy Kimmel, The Jennie Jones show, just to name a few. Currenly, Rob has been doing podcast style Instagram lives weekly on Wednesday. Successive UK governments have tried to use independent commissions, cross-party agreements and public engagement to diffuse politically contentious issues. Most recently, the Johnson government has pledged cross-party talks on social care and a royal commission on justice, and six House of Commons committees are running a citizens’ assembly on climate change. This panel debate assessed the pros and cons of different approaches and how they can be deployed most effectively. Our panel included: Sir John Gieve, former Permanent Secretary at the Home Office Professor Sir John Hills, former Member of the Pensions Commission Dame Julie Mellor, Chair of Demos Professor Dawn Oliver, former Member of the Royal Commission on Reform of the House of Lords. This event was chaired by Nick Davies, Programme Director at the Institute for Government. There was an opportunity for questions from the audience.

We're talking about healthily coping with impotent leadership and internal politics and what do you do in. Your leader is really a red head. Hot Mess Yeah. It's a topic that comes up often you. There are many articles out there. A quick Google search will get you there. We did want to talk about it. Not because others have it but because I think we have a voice to speak we both have experience with toxic leaders. I think everyone WHO's been around this block more than once has and it's surprising to me that it continues to be such a common instance? I guess what what makes some specific boss or a certain environmental is going to depend a lot on how that person or organization has grown into the position. They're in so there's going to be a unique set of reasons. I don't think we need to really analyze the reasons why they're there. It's really just. How do we cope with this situation? And especially for those who have had a lot of experience in their work and then suddenly find themselves back in a situation that feels toxic or dealing with a leader. Who doesn't seem to lead? Well it can be really frustrating. So we I WANNA talk about this from a sort of a step back in how we can help ourselves to cope with these situations and find ways to improve awesome. Tell me if this sounds like you. Have you ever had a new boss or a new leader. Yeah I think we all have. Have you been promised things that didn't happen Many times okay. Tell me this sounds like you is the leader. Favoring somebody else over you never never happens right now or maybe you feel isolated you know working remotely as do. I sometimes feel isolated. I'm not getting face time or I'm not getting recognition or I'm not. There's certain things I'm not getting really it comes to our own perceptions are we actually perceiving this accurately and so. That's a really good caveat to start the conversation sometimes times. We don't see things as clearly as they appear. What we WANNA talk about isn't so much dealing with the times when we misunderstand ended when we want to encourage everyone to to look at that objectively tried to get as much input about it from co workers or other leaders or people who used to work work with with these people because you can always find that out on linked and do your due diligence to determine whether or not this is truly a toxic situation or your leader really isn't a good leader whether that's true impotence? In the sense that they don't have the power to make positive change or maybe they just do play play favorites. Let let's or they choose not to make a decision. They abdicate. Certain responsibilities that that's another thing that we see all the time but we're going to assume that you've done your due diligence and that you have confirmed in a relatively robust way that yes.
