Today on part two of our interview with Lili Haydn on this episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we continue our story about how Lili grew up in the most unconventional way in Hollywood and came out of it a Grammy winner in spite of the amazing conclusion we discuss today. In part one, Lili gave us the background on her mother Lotus Wienstock who was a trail blazing stand-up comedian who wrote books like The Lotus Position & opened The Comedy Store's Belly Room for female comedians. She  found herself as one of the new faces of stand-up comedy just prior to the 80's comedy boom that happened shortly thereafter. Lili's bond with her mother was palpable in this episode but we also learn more about her father, a man named David Jove who counted among his friends the Grateful Dead's L.S.D. connection/soundman Bear as well as musician Peter Ivers whose death as the host of a show conceived by Jove is still an unsolved mystery today, This was one of those episodes that left us emotionally spent as Lili was incredibly open and honest about her complicated relationship with her father. She didn't hold back which was a very brave thing to do in an interview and we thank her for it. Take a listen to part two of our interview w/ Lili Haydn on this episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast.

This week on the show, Transmissions host Jason P. Woodbury joins Penelope Spheeris, director of The Decline of Western Civilization trilogy, The Beverly Hillbillies, Little Rascals, Suburbia, and Wayne's World. Spheeris is the host of Peter and the Acid King, a true crime podcast set in the Los Angeles punk scene of the early ‘80s concerning the unsolved murder of Peter Ivers. A pop culture wunderkind, Ivers was many things at once: an all-star harmonica player who played alongside Little Walter, a pal of Van Dyke Parks who opened for Fleetwood Mac, and a songwriter who wrote music for David Lynch's Eraserhead and artists like Diana Ross and The Pointer Sisters. In the early '80s, he found found notoriety as host of New Wave Theatre, which showcased Bad Religion, Circle Jerks, 45 Grave and the Angry Samoans. Peter and the Acid King explores that epochal cultural era and its violent end. Working with investigator and co-creator Alan Sacks, Spheeris narrates with 10-part series, which is just about to finish its run, with world weary charm and sly understatement, as well as her signature attitude. Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast, we take a listen to part one of our conversation with Lili Haydn, the Grammy winning composer and performer who  has perhaps the most fascinating and most brutally honest story we've ever recorded. It was so jam packed and unbelievable that we didn't even get a chance to ask her about what it was like starring in Easy Money with Rodney Dangerfield and Joe Pesci. And if you are a listener to this podcast, does that sound like something Josh would pass up? Well, part one of our interview with Lili will tell you all you need to know as to why. Oh the things we learn on this episode. Lili and Josh connect on the fact that he was once at a Mose Allison show and Lili asked to perform with him at the Catalina in Los Angeles back in the 90s. What are the odds? But it's Lili's mother, stand-up comedian/writer Lotus Weinstock and her father David Jove that take up the bulk of the conversation. And for good reason. We touch on subjects as diverse as performing with Jimmy Page, her mother founding The Belly Room at The Comedy Store, Lenny Bruce, the infamous Redlands bust of the Rolling Stones, New Wave Theater, The Source Family, Stanley Owsley, Chevy Chase, Peter Ivers and Joan Rivers. All we can tell you is that this barely scratches the surface. This part one episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast is one of the most intense, harrowing, amazing and truthful episodes we have ever done. Take a listen.

Your clicking duo is more than a little excited about WASTOIDS season one, our four-episode anthology series now streaming on Night Flight Plus. For this episode, Sam and Jason use Night Flight as a starting point and let their scrappy television production imaginations run wild. True crime, tragedy, children's shows, psychedelia, and art pop madness: this episode of Click Vortex from WASTOIDS has it all. To start, Sam digs into the history of Boston's WVJV-TV channel 66, an upstart TV station at the heart of the documentary Life on the V: The Story of V66. Then he draws imaginary (or not?) lines connecting Weird Al Yankovic's classic 1989 movie UHF and Phoenix children's show The Wallace and Ladmo Show, and drops the needle on music from their bandleader, Mike Condello.  Then, Jason unpacks the sordid story of New Wave Theatre, exploring the discography of Peter Ivers (known for his work on David Lynch's classic, Eraserhead), David "The Acid King" Jove, Ed Ochs, and the short lived follow-up program The Top with Andy Kaufman. Wanna share your thoughts on our new TV show? Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast we have and we promise you, one of the most unique, fascinating, jaw dropping, emotional and sometimes shocking interviews we've ever had on the podcast. Today we are talking to Grammy-winning musician/composer/vocalist/violinist Lili Haydn, whose sophomore album from her band Opium Moon Night and Day is up for another Grammy next month. She's also a composer, has recorded six solo albums and performed with everyone from Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, Herbie Hancock, Nusrat Fateh Ali Kahn, Roger Waters, The Jayhawks, Tom Petty and Parliament/Funkadelic to name just a few. Talking to Lili was frankly, unlike anything we have covered before on any episode. Lili and host Josh Mills talked for a long time which is why this is a two-part episode. There was just too much amazing stuff, we couldn't cut any of it. We talked about her comedian/author/writer mother Lotus Wienstock, a free spirit who not only was engaged to Lenny Bruce but became one of the beloved comedians of her era. She was a trail blazer and influential stand-up comedian and was loved and respected by contemporaries like Richard Pryor, Jay Leno, Bill Maher, Sandra Bernhard and Jerry Seinfeld, She excelled in her own personal and inclusive brand of comedy that was as much a shared audience experience as stand-up could be. She was the impetus behind The Comedy Store founding “The Belly Room,” where only women could perform, in an era when comedy was essentially a men's only club. Lotus also wrote a fantastic book called The Lotus Position, changed her name twice and had her music recorded by Ritchie Havens. And that's just the beginning. Lili's father David Jove is a mythical figure himself. He was known as “King Acid David” in the mid-sixties due to fact that he was one of the first ever to mass-produce L.S.D. A friend of The Rolling Stones, he may or may not have been directly responsible for infamous “Redlands” bust of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Marianne Faithfull and others in 1967. He was also a colleague of Stanley Owsley The Grateful Dead soundman and L.S.D. aficionado, created two early music video shows including New Wave Theater which mixed punk rock, SCTV and SNL alums and was hosted by enigmatic host Peter Ivers whose unsolved murder we discuss on the episode. There is so much to unpack in our conversation with Lili in part one of this episode that it frankly left us a little spent. And oh yeah, Lili did this interview while quarantining at home with her second bout of Covid, a real trooper. All I can say is, buckle up….this is the Rarified Heir Podcast.

In March 1983, avant garde musician and anarchic late-night TV show host Peter Ivers is found in his Los Angeles loft apartment bludgeoned to death with a hammer. The trail went cold immediately and, despite the case being reopened in 2008 following a biography of Ivers, it seems likely that the killer will never be identified. So who could have even wanted Ivers dead, never mind actually murdering him? And join us for perhaps our most controversial episode yet as we all do what seems like the unthinkable and actually stick up for the 2016 version of Ghostbusters...At the Mystery on the Rocks bar you’ll find a retired sleuth, the bartender trying to settle his tab, and the down-on-her-luck lounge singer, solving mysteries and drinking cocktails. Each week a new guest enters the bar and attempts to solve an unsolved mystery alongside the regulars. Hosted by Masud Milas, Chris Stokes, and Sooz Kempner. It’s a high concept comedy and true crime podcast, set in a fictional crime-solving bar (with real cocktails!). The focus of the show is to attempt to crack a real, unsolved mystery from history – true crime and bizarre occurrences, all with a whodunnit or WTF happened question hanging over them. Masud makes the drinks, Chris tells the mystery and Sooz sings and plays live piano – and everyone chats and chimes in with their theories. You can follow us on Twitter and Instagram too!Produced by Chris Stokes, Masud Milas and Sooz Kempner. But sometimes real life can be more frightening than any movie will ever be. The deaths on this list are more then just tragic, but also very strange. These are 5 Hollywood murder mysteries. 5. Natalie Wood Known for films like Miracle on 34th Street, Rebel Without a Cause and West Side Story, Natalie Wood was a shining Hollywood star in the 1960’s. She had been starring in movies since she was 4 years old and had grown up in front of the camera. Although there was a minor slump in her career while she was transitioning from a child actress to an adult, she eventually found her momentum again until the fateful day she died on November 29, 1981. 4. Bob Crane Considered as one of Hollywood's biggest murder mysteries, the death of Hogan's Heroes star, Bob Crane still baffles many people today. Crane was a popular sitcom star in the 60s but a decade later his life came to a an end under violent and stange cirumstances. In 1978 he was in Scottsdale acting in a play when he was found bludgeoned to death inside his apartment. The 49-year old actor was severly beaten and an electric cord had been wrapped around his neck. Not long after, sordid details about Crane's personal life began to surface. Apparently, the star collected videotapes and photographs of his various sexual liaisons with women. 3. Jean Spangler On October 7, 1949, Jean Spangler, a beautiful 26-year old dancer, model and bit part actress mysteriously disappeared. Jean was a divorcee who had one child. She left her daughter in the care of her sister-in-law before heading out saying she had to go work on set. However, when she didn't come back the following day, her sister-in-law phoned authorites. When police began the investigation, they discovered that the last person to see her was a store clerk who distinctly remembered her, but After that, they couldn't find a single trace of her. 2. Peter Ivers Best known as an experimental musician, Peter Ivers may not be as well known today but if you were a fan of a show called "New Wave Theatre" in the 80’s then you might have heard of him. His show was a platform for bands like Fear and The Dead Kennedy's. More than a host, Ivers was also a musician. He was a gifted harmonica player and even scored David Lynch's cult classic "Eraserhead." Later on, he opened for Fleetwood Mac and dated film producer, Lucy Fisher, who supervised on films like Jerry Maguire and Men in Black. 1. Jimi Hendrix Michael Jeffery isn't a household name but he was associated with one of the most famous musician that has ever lived – Jimi Hendrix, and Jefferies’ was his manager. And now some say that he was actually directly responsible for the late rockers death. Jeffery was best known in the business for first handling the group The Animals. Even though they gained plenty of success, the band ultimately blamed Jeffery for their demise and breakup. They accused him of overworking them and appropriating their earnings. Those were 5 Hollywood Murder Mysteries Celebrity scandals might be a dime a dozen these days but these Hollywood murder mysteries will most likely endure for many years to come, if not forever.
