There continues to be great confusion regarding the impact of hormone therapy on the breast. And despite the known benefits of hormone therapy, and reassuring data regarding the impact of hormone therapy on breast cancer, most clinicians are still reluctant to prescribe it, and most women are reluctant to take it. Even more so if a woman is high risk for breast cancer or has a breast cancer diagnosis.  In this episode, I am joined by Dr. Corinne Menn, a board-certified Ob GYN and menopause expert who herself had a breast cancer diagnosis when she was in her 20s. We will be reviewing the latest research on the impact of estrogen on the breast in several different scenarios.  PREGNANCY post breast cancer Women who have a BREAST CANCER diagnosis  Women with a FAMILY HISTORY of breast cancer Women with a BRCA MUTATION after prophylactic ovary removal The approach to therapy for women with a NEW BREAST CANCER DIAGNOSIS The use of local vaginal estrogen in women with a breast cancer diagnosis that are taking TAMOXIFEN or using an AROMOTASE INHIBITOR If a LOCAL VAGINAL ESTROGEN needs to  be used at the lowest dose What to do if your DOCTOR NOT WILLING to prescribe local or systemic estrogen (list of articles to share is below)  If a woman with a breast cancer diagnosis can use TESTOSTERONE for libido and other possible benefits Dr. Corrine Menn https://drmenn.com/ @drmennobgyn For more information: Episode 124 All Hormones Are Not Created Equal with Dr. James Simon Episode 65- The Dilemma of Menopause and Breast Cancer Episode 31 The TRUTH About Hormone Therapy: Does it CAUSE or Does it PREVENT Breast Cancer? Menopause experts rarely see patients with no medical issues. We see the patient with multiple medical problems and concerns.  In this episode, I bring in menopause expert Dr. Risa Kagan to collaborate on options for a complex patient.  My name is Beth, and I am 51 years old.  I've been flashing for 2 years with no end in sight.  I really want to try estrogen not just to help my hot flashes, but also because my mom had osteoporosis. I don't have osteoporosis yet, but I'm worried since I've been told I have low bone mass.  My doctor won't give me estrogen because my grandmother died from breast cancer. She wants me to take raloxifene to protect my bones and my breast, but that won't help my flashes. I also would rather not take anything with progesterone since when I took it years ago to help with irregular periods, I got moody and bloated. I need some help here. “ *Options discussed include: Raloxifene (Evista™) A Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator (SERM) and estrogen together Paroxitene (Brisdelle™) Gabapentin Fezolinetant (Veozah™) Fezolinetant and raloxifene together Estrogen and vaginal progestogen gel (Crinone™) Estrogen and a Progestogen IUD Unopposed estrogen Conjugated equine estrogen (Premarin™) and bazodoxifene (Duavee™) *I have no financial relationship with any of the companies that sell these drugs For more information on this topic:  Episode 2:Think Your Hot Flashes Can't Kill You? This week it was announced in the United Kingdom that women at high risk of breast cancer will be able to take a drug, Anastrozole, which is usually used to treat breast cancer, as a preventative measure. Recent trials show the drug can reduce the incidence of breast cancer by almost 50% in post-menopausal women at moderate or high risk of the disease. Claudia Hammond is joined by medical journalist Clare Wilson from New Scientist to discuss how the drug works and who it will be offered to. We also hear from Pakistan where four hundred teachers in Islamabad have been trained to screen their pupils for eye problems. Often families can't afford for their eyes to be tested, so the classroom is being used to tackle both eye health and the stigma that can surround wearing glasses. And do you think you are humble? Well Claudia discusses whether the whole idea of humility is undervalued with Professor Daryl Van Tongeren, the Director of the Frost Center for Social Science Research at Hope College in the United States. And Clare tries to answer the question: do we really need eight of hours of sleep a night? Presenter: Claudia Hammond Producers: Jonathan Blackwell and Helena Selby Editor: Holly Squire

Can hormone therapy stave off breast cancer? Can optimizing estrogen and progesterone prevent Alzheimer's disease?   Hormone replacement therapy specialist Dr. Terri DeNeui presents the health benefits to women and men of hormone optimization on VitalSigns with Brendon Fallon.   Is hormone therapy only for women struggling with menopause? Is it dangerous to start too early or to continue hormone therapy too long?   Dr. DeNeui counters common misconceptions of hormone therapy, based on her clinical practice and the emerging hormone-therapy research. This includes unpacking the idea that hormone therapy is only for women.   “When we optimize testosterone in men and women, they say that it's like the dimmer lights were on and somebody kind of gradually turned the lights back on and you can see again.”   Dr. DeNeui is a board-certified nurse practitioner, specializing in hormone replacement therapy, preventive wellness medicine, and functional medicine. She is the founder of EVEXIAS Health Solutions.   If hormone replacement therapy can help prevent diseases like breast cancer and Alzheimer's disease, why isn't it being used more widely and beyond the limited timeframe of menopause?   ⭕️ Watch in-depth videos based on Truth & Tradition at Epoch TV

The 2023 Menopause Society  (NAMS) position statement regarding the non-hormonal treatment of Vasomotor Symptoms- hot flashes and night sweats- was just released. Position statements are expert analyses of current studies in order to determine recommendations based on science, as opposed to what the latest Tik Tok star or celebrity is promoting. Because new studies are constantly being published, there is always new information to inform those recommendations, which is why position statements need to periodically get updated.  Because the position statement is very extensive and long, I have divided it into 3 episodes.  Part 1- Non-hormonal prescription options Part 2 -Over the counter botanicals and dietary supplements  Part 3- Lifestyle; mind-body techniques; acupuncture and cooling devices.  In this episode, I am covering non-hormonal prescription options. My guest is one of the authors of The Menopause Society position statement, Dr. Chrisandra Shufelt. Dr. Shufelt is a certified menopause practitioner of The Menopause Society, the Chair of the Division of General Internal Medicine, Senior Consultant at the Mayo Clinic Women's Health, and Associate Director of Women's Health Research Center at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. The drugs discussed include: Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI) such as Paroxetine, Citalopram, Escitalopram Selective Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors (SNRI) such as Desvenlafaxine, Venlafaxine Gabapentin  Pre-gabalin Clonidine Oxybutynin Suvorexant  Fezolinetant And stick around for the wrap-up at the end. I summarize the recommendations. Other relevant episodes:  Episode 2:Think Your Hot Flashes Can't Kill You? Think Again! Essentially all women eventually enter menopause, and while most end up not taking hormones to treat their symptoms, they at least have the option to do so. Women with a breast cancer diagnosis, on the other hand, generally don't have the same choices at their disposal and are told, or assume, they are not candidates for estrogen therapy. Millions of women are expected to just put up with hot flashes, brain fog, insomnia, and bone loss, not to mention all the changes below the belly button. In this episode, I am joined by Dr. Corinne Menn, a board-certified gynecologist, with expertise in menopause and sexual medicine who was diagnosed with estrogen-positive breast cancer in her 20s.  We will have a radical discussion about options, INCLUDING ESTROGEN to manage hot flashes and insomnia.  In this episode, we discuss: The impact of PREGNANCY on women with breast cancer Non-estrogen prescription options to treat HOT FLASHES SSRI, SNRI  Gabapentin  Oxybutynin  Fezolinetant ESTROGEN THERAPY as an option for women with breast cancer The lack of studies that show estrogen increases the risk of breast cancer recurrence or mortality  The 25 scientific studies that support the safety of taking menopausal estrogen therapy in women with breast cancer  Why physicians continue to tell women to avoid estrogen If it is worth taking herbal or other over-the-counter hot flash remedies Article Dr. Menn references: Bluming AZ. Systemic estrogen, unlike local estrogen, affect every single cell in the body which means there is an impact on not only hot flashes but also your bones, your brain, your bladder, and your cardiovascular system along with your vulva and vagina. While there is a long list of benefits with both oral and transdermal systemic estrogen, the potential complications are where the differences come in. So, the decision to take an oral estrogen versus using a patch, spray, or skin gel is not just about personal preference, insurance coverage, and convenience, it's also about safety. It's about potential risks. It's about your personal medical history. Carole is a Naturopath, Acupuncturist, and Homeopath with over 35 years of clinical experience. She has helped thousands of women around the globe recover their health to enjoy life again. In this talk, she discusses the key tips to heal and prevent breast cancer and other autoimmune diseases. We branch off into many different topics but the main ideas Carol conveys to us is how she became involved with functional and integrative medicine, how to stay away from toxins that are estrogen disruptors, how integrative approaches are applied in chemotherapy, and much more. Carol also talks about how the start of our day controls the trajectory of how our cells will react for the rest of the day, so starting the day with whole grains, fruits, and veggies is much better than starting with sugar and coffee! Many people react to certain issues when it's too late unfortunately, so Carol puts a strong emphasis on nourishing our bodies with whole, healthy foods while keeping away from toxins in not only our foods but also our household products like dish soap, laundry soap and makeup. Our skin molecules are very good at absorbing, so what we feed and put on our bodies is a good place to start in order to start healing. Tune in to find out more! So if you're starting your day out with coffee and sugar, you're setting yourself up to be in a glucose-based day.” “Sugar feeds cancer. Cancer given a choice between glucose and oxygen for energy, will choose sugar or glucose, even though it gives less energy and is more arduous.”   Visit our store below: https://reviveatlmd.mindsharecommerce.com/ Code: First10 for 10% off Rejuvenate your Metabolism and Weight Loss Bundle Weight Loss Support Packets   Adrenal Complex™ 120 capsules Metal-x-Synergy 90 Vegetarian capsules These packets are designed to assist the body in using fat for fuel and to help support healthy insulin, cortisol, and energy metabolism. Katie Rampen is a Wellness Empowerment Coach who is dedicated to creating a thriving world through healthier living as well as a breast cancer recovery advocate, helping women navigate a breast cancer diagnosis and avoid recurrence.Eight years ago and then again this past March she was diagnosed with breast cancer. As a mother of two children, she knew it was time to spring into action to reclaim her health and her life. Not only for herself but for her kids and family. Katie embarked upon a quest to learn more deeply about cancer and health in general. As a result, she uncovered a lot of eye-opening, little known information that made her realize we each need - herself included - to start taking greater responsibility for our health. In this episode, Katie shares how she traveled as a caregiver for her ailing father to Kauai, Hawaii as she was recovering from her second bout of breast cancer surgery. What she soon realized was how powerful the healing energies of the island and beautiful nature all around them was.Katie shares how a chance encounter with a rare Hawaiian Monk seal showed her how to be calm and at peace despite preparing for an impending hurricane.  A beautiful lesson about how to be present with what is happening at the moment, not what may or may not happen in the future. She tells us about having sea turtles visit her little beach every day and how one sea turtle was struggling and how she felt moved to reach out to find help for the suffering turtle, despite others telling her she could not make a difference.  She learned to trust herself, be persistant and as a result saving the life of the sea turtle and giving back to the nature that had provided so much healing and wisdom to both her and her father. You can connect with Katie in her Healthy Families Facebook Pageand her Kicking Cancer with Katie Facebook GroupGet Katie's free gift here:  7 Simple Steps to a Healthier Youand her free guide: Three Things You Need to Know to Prevent Breast Cancer

This week on The #FitwithFallon #Podcast hosted by Fallon Mercedes Brock, Fallon speaks with Dr. Elizabth Boham about #BreastCancer #Prevention. You may have seen her passionately spreading her knowledge about prevention on the Dr. Oz show, but she has good reasoning too. Right now breast cancer and other estrogen-related carcinomas are on the rise. Every two minutes a woman is diagnosed, and every 1 in 8 females will be diagnosed in their lifetime. Alarming numbers show that even younger women are now starting to get breast cancer. Currently, there are 260,000 women in their thirties and twenties who have it. If we have the most advanced medical technology in the world, why is breast cancer continuing to increase at a rapid rate and at an even younger age in the United States? Dr. Boham dives deep into the data that has led her to believe why the incidence of breast cancer continues to rise. As a #BreastCancerSurvivor herself, she reveals a shocking story of finding a lump while practicing a breast exam on herself during residency, turning out to be triple-negative breast cancer. After combining her traditional western medical training, and the functional medicine approach she learned to help beat her cancer, she is now giving patients the tools to give them a fighting chance at beating theirs. Cycling is seeing a huge increase in popularity thanks to people avoiding public transport and wanting to get some exercise. In today’s Woman’s Hour Corona Diaries, Krysia Williams talks about the beauty of cycling in lockdown, and how the Bristol Bike Project – where she works – has been supporting key workers in moving around the city. Every year, 55,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer - and 18,000 of those come from screening. Since lockdown there’s been a 70% drop in GP referrals, according to data from Prevent Breast Cancer. Jenni talks to Lester Barr, consultant breast surgeon and founder and chairman of the Prevent Breast Cancer charity, about why early diagnosis is so important and what women should be doing at the moment if they’re worried. Shelley Klein grew up in the Scottish Borders in a house designed on a modernist open-plan grid; with colourful glass panels set against a forest of trees. Years later Shelley returns to look after her father, Bernat Klein, an uncompromising and ground breaking textile designer who is now in his eighties.. Shelley joins Jenni to talk about intense father daughter relationships, her deep attachment to the house and surrounding landscape and the challenges of returning home to care for an elderly relative. Reported cases of domestic violence in Russia have more than doubled during the country’s coronavirus lockdown, according to the Russian human rights commissioner, She said in a statement last week that complaints and reports made to Russian non-governmental organisations spiked from roughly 6,000 in March to more than 13,000 in April, It’s in stark contrast to what Russian police are saying. Jenni talks to the BBC Russian's women's affairs reporter Nina Nazarova.
