After a year of immense loss (Liz's parents passing within six months of each other and saying goodbye to our beloved family dog), the Deacle family re-grouped and set off for a month in British Columbia, Canada, in search of some much-needed family time, happiness, love, conversation, and togetherness. To make this possible, they are house-swapping. They have traded their Skoda and lovely one-level countryside home in Taranaki, New Zealand, with a family in Nelson, BC, and they now have THEIR car and THEIR beautiful Canadian wooden home in the mountains for a month. For those who position themselves against the idea of Christians deconstructing their faith, I'd ask just one simple question: How do you grow and learn if you don't deconstruct? There are few things that will shake your faith more than the death of a loved one in a preventable plane crash! The storms and vicissitudes of life bring pain, hardship, failure, betrayal and all the things that attend a life lived, dressed in human skin. And that WILL, to a significant degree, changed the lens through which one views Scriptures (Note that I didn't say it would change the Scriptures or their meaning). When your sight is failing, you change lenses. That is the nature of deconstruction! Like the storm that just hit Florida, I promised an explosive Season 7. Here it is!!! Over and Over Again: Illustrator Aubrey Hirsch on the Power of Storytelling

“Getting people to feel angry with me makes me feel less alone, less helpless. (It) makes me feel like, okay, there's a whole team of us. We're all gonna do it.” - Writer and illustrator, Aubrey Hirsch    The world is such a hot mess: every day a new disaster, a new human rights catastrophe. It can just feel… endless. Illustrator Aubrey Hirsch joins us to talk about outrage and trauma and community building - it's like the greatest hits of modern culture. But mostly, she joins us to talk about art - specifically, the ways that storytelling helps us band together and work towards the world we all want.    PS: Listen all the way through so you don't miss Aubrey's slightly sinister but ultimately functional ideas on hope.  In this episode we cover:  The relationship between rage and creation: when there's so much wrong with the world all you can do is scream Why taking action to change things matters - even if your actions won't save everyone Women and anger: hoo boy, it's a whole thing.  Why healing inside trauma is actually kind of… boring.  Connecting through the power of storytelling Notable quotes:  “I feel very helpless and I don't wanna feel like that because I know that to be f*cked is a spectrum and we can be more f*cked than we are now or less f*cked. It's not a binary. I want us to move in the right direction (less f*cked),  and I want to be a part of that movement - even if my action comes too late for some.” - Aubrey Hirsch About our guest:   Aubrey Hirsch is the author of Why We Never Talk About Sugar, a collection of short stories, and This Will Be His Legacy, a flash fiction chapbook. Her stories, essays and comics have appeared widely in print and online in places like American Short Fiction, Vox, TIME, The New York Times, The Rumpus, The Toast, and in the New York Times bestselling anthology, Not That Bad. Her essay on trauma and surviving gun violence is a must read. When you start something (without the full plan of what it's going to look like), you get results that are often unquantifiable. After all, you didn't establish the ground work. You don't know what a "success or failure" looks like. You haven't done the hard work that goes into laying out a coherent, justified, deliberate end goal. Begin with the end in mind. And it's not just the long term vision ... good execution comes down to the little details. Long before we launched the Rugby Rent Scholarships website in July of 2021, Isaiah Ashley had already been in touch about playing rugby out west. Pat Kane (North Carolina based rugby coach) connected us, and Isaiah got on his horse ... he showed up before the house had even begun it's full renovation. It would prove to be a summer of changes. Isaiah first gravitated to rugby in order to get out of football spring conditioning (smart AND honorable). Grimsley HS was one of 3 teams that offered in the Greensboro, NC area, and he immediately took to the game. His size was an immediate asset, and the ability to size people up is always a fun endeavor (... for the bigger guy ... usually). Raised in a "football first" family, he accepted a football scholarship to Furman with intent of playing football and rugby, but after 4am alarms became pretty old (he also only touched the ball 3 total times ... exciting fumble recoveries), he narrowed his focus to the rugby pitch. Isaiah did the work and transformed from a 300lb offensive tackle back down to a manageable mid 200 mark. Learning how to pass and get around the pitch is often the hardest part of the game for big fellas to pick up quickly. Isaiah made it a point to put in the reps to close the gaps in his game, and it showed in his time at Furman. Isaiah's time playing 7's with the Denver Barbarians was unfortunately cut short due to an ankle injury sustained in training. He made the most of his short stay in Colorado, rooming with Uncle Johnny and the Rugby Rent Scholarships house. Even as he was hobbled on crutches, he still managed to get his passes in each day in order to improve his craft. He and Uncle Johnny gave glowing reviews of each other as roommates (espousing more and more wisdom with each trip to the bathroom), and Isaiah even gave us some insight into his content creation ... The Thiccman Inc. Podcast. Thanks again to Isaiah for the great interview, and best of luck to him and his future rugby endeavors! PICKEM! From our previous lesson, we learnt that Moses was sustained because of his parents who saw him as a goodly and proper child and due to this they were not afraid of the decree of the king. Moses' mother gave birth to and sustained him, despising the king's orders and regarded not the heavy risk attached to her actions. She saw a great future for her son by merely seeing his looks and this propelled faith in her to secure his life. Without the faith of Moses' mother a great man of faith like Moses will have been lost at birth or after birth. This as why Moses' parents and mother precisely were heroes of faith. When Moses became three months of age, his mother knew that she could not hide him anymore because of his loud cries which will put her and her family at risk, she still chose not to kill him. Her decision was to at most leave his life in the hands of God instead of kill him, this was a way of giving him out for adoption.Although Moses' mother had got to the peak of her faith to secure and nurture her baby, she still did not throw in the towel helplessly by killing her baby, she made efforts to take another giant step of faith which was risky to entrust her baby's life to God.s order despite the heavy risk attached to her actions. She saw a great future for her son by merely seeing his looks and this propelled faith in her to secure his life. Without the faith of Moses' mother a great man of faith like Moses would have been lost at birth or after birth. This as why Moses' parents, his mother precisely were heroes of faith. When Moses became three months of age, his mother knew that she could not hide him anymore because of his loud cries which will put her and her family at risk, she still chose not to kill him. Her decision was to at most leave his life in the hands of God instead of kill him, this was a way of giving him out for adoption. Although she did not know what his fate would be at the river, at least she did not kill him, this was why she sent his sister to watch him from a distance. Although Moses' mother had got to the peak of her faith to secure and nurture her baby, she still did not throw in the towel helplessly by killing her baby. She made efforts to take another giant step of faith which was risky and it demanded that she entrust her baby's life to God. Exodus 2:3-4. Her faith based decision to not kill her son was rewarded greatly by God. This God did by making the daughter of Pharaoh adopt a child who her father sought to kill, thus she disobeyed her father to unknowingly obey God.Exodus 2:5-10. The preceding verses makes us understand that Moses was weaned and trained by his own parents. During this period of training, he was taught that he is a Jew, he was taught about his God and the God of his people who is the one true and living God called YAHWEH, he was taught about his fore fathers, the faith and practices of his people, he was taught about how his people came into Egypt and he was taught who he was. These revealed that, the parents of Moses maximized the little time they had with Moses, to teach him and train him in accordance with the injunction in scriptures Proverbs 22:6. Training and teaching children on the things of God at their early age is an act of faith which God honors, because it secures their destinies and greatness. These teachings and trainings given to Moses by his parents developed his faith, principles and practices thus, they secured his destiny and greatness. The proof of this truth was the decision Moses made that proved his faith in God, by his refusal to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; i.e he refused royalty.Hebrews 11:24. Moses threw away his only physical hope of security because He blindly choose God's provision of security which he never knew what it held for him. Ps:Listen to this teaching NOW for more... Main Teaching Text: Genesis 15:5-9 Abraham was a man whose life manifested the blessings of the LORD because he had faith in God. He was so enjoyed God's blessings in every sense possible that the best anyone could account of him was in estimates for instance, accounting for the sand at sea shore. A blessed man is one who cannot be estimated on the basis of material possession; if your exact value and worth can be determined by man or systems, it means you have not started walking in the blessing of God. In verse 5 of Genesis chapter 15, God shows how much the Children of Abraham will be, and Abraham believed what God had spoken because he saw pictures as he walked in obedience (verse 7). It is easy to believe God when you see pictures in scriptures. Abraham never stopped at seeing pictures even after God told him that he will inherit the land. Abraham went further to ask God for an assurance Genesis 15 verse 8 says, "But he said, “Lord God, how may I know that I will possess it?”. This asking came after he had walked the length and breath of the land (read Genesis 13:14-15) Abraham's act of asking for an assurance to the promise God gave him was not a show of faithlessness, but was necessary because there was no token for God's promise. It is important we know that even in the promise of God there is a token, so the promise of God is His covenant and births His covenant. Abraham asked for an assurance because he needed a token from God which God met in verse 9. If God honored Abraham's request concerning His promise him even as under this dispensation as believers in Christ we also need a token/ assurance of God's promises. However, by God's providence, we no longer have to request for assurance because, we have Jesus Christ. For us, Jesus is the Father's token of and for assurance for all of His promises. This is why, all the promises of God are YES in Christ Jesus, 2 Corinthians 1:19-20 says,"Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and he is the one whom Timothy, Silas, and I have preached to you—and he has never been both a “yes” and a “no.” He has always been and always will be for us a resounding “YES!” For all of God's promises find their “yes” of fulfillment in him. And as his “yes” and our “amen” ascend to God, we bring him glory!" Therefore, we can boldly declare as believers under the New Testament that, Jesus is our assurance /token that qualifies us to receive God's promises. Grace to you. Jesus is Lord. Previously, we learnt that Joseph knew what God told his great grand father (Abraham) about what will happen to his future generation (Genesis 15:13-14). Also, learnt that Joseph was a man who knew history, maintained the ancient land marks and believed in the potency, authenticity and infallibility of the word of God spoken in time past. As a result of this he was sure that, it must manifest even though it will not be in his time. Joseph's prophetic mention of their departing from Egypt was based on the knowledge he gathered from history. Likewise, Joseph's knowledge of HISTORY formed his PRINCIPLES this made him request for his bones to be taken away from Egypt when the PROPHECY manifests. Genesis 50:25. This was the second reason why Joseph was included in the heroes of faith. Why did Joseph request for his bones to be taken away from Egypt? 1. Because he believed that God will fulfill His promise to Abraham. The burial place in ancient Israel was very important so by burial, Joseph was willing to base his future resting place and by implication faith on the promise that Israel will leave Egypt. Therefore carrying his bones was not just the fulfillment of their promise to him but, the fulfillment of God's promise to Abraham. 2. To create faith in the heart of the Israelites which Moses exhibited. While God made sure that the Exodus happened, and that the Israelites leave Egypt, Moses takes the most significant step he could, redeeming Joseph's bones. Carrying those bones was a way of saying that, while leaving Egypt may be overwhelming and scary, the Israelites had absolute confidence that they will end up, as God promised, in the Land of Israel. 3. He wanted to be a partaker of the manifestation of the prophecy physically even if it meant that his bone will do that for him. Having understood that he will not be alive when the promise manifest, he covenanted with his brethren to ensure that he entered he promise land even in death. This makes us understand that his faith in God and the fulfillment of the promise could not be stopped by death. 4. He knew that Egypt was not his home so he lived looking forward to the day when he will go home and he knew he will only get home via his bones. Joseph gave us followers of Jesus the precedence and example of how we should live, we are to live knowing that this world is not our home and we are to keep looking forward to the day when we will go home. 5. He knew that Egypt was the land of bondage and believed in God's plan for freedom which He gave in the promise to Abraham.Joshua 24:32 6. Joseph believed in the redemptive power of God this was seen in his final wish or last request. Everyone hopes in something, but not everyone displays that hope in the same way. Often, that hope is embodied in what is sometimes referred to as a person's “last request” made just before he passes away. The dreams God gave to Joseph in his early days were prophetic, and they spoke of things to come in Joseph's life. Though the providence that brought God's promises to fruition was not always easy to bear, Joseph learned to hope beyond that which he currently embraced, and to believe in that which he could not yet see. In our previous lesson, we learnt that God created Adam and empowered him via the blessing to make earth perfect which he failed at doing. We also learnt that the law could and can only at its maximum make things very good. It cannot make anything perfect. God's original plan for man and the earth was perfection not very good, this was why He created Adam in His image and likeness. Adam was a perfect man that is, neither mortal nor immortal. version of the immortal God. (Genesis 1:26) So, God created Adam and placed him on earth because he needed someone to extend the perfection of heaven to earth, and only man could do this, no other creature could. However, the first man (Adam) failed at this task, and the failure of Adam gave way for another man and then another man until the man called Moses came with the Law as a limited road map to make man and the earth perfect. Also, the Law failed at extending the perfection of heaven to earth. The law instituted the priesthood as instructed by God via Moses. The purpose of the priesthood was for a man to stand before God on behalf of the people to make atonement and bring perfection. However, the priesthood also could not accomplish this as seen in Hebrews 7:11. Hence, since there was need for another priest to arise after the order of Melchisedec not called after the order of Aaron , it means that perfection was not by the priesthood. This was due to the limitations of the blood of animals used for atonement, it could not take away sin. The scripture says in Hebrews 10:4, "For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins". The priest who must bring perfection must use the blood that has power to take away sin, the only priest who did this rose after the order of Melchisedec, He is Jesus. Hebrew 9:12; 6:20. Therefore, Hebrews 7:11 reveals that, priesthood came from the tribe of Levi, this we can also see in God's provision for the tribe of Levi given them by Joshua in the promise land. When Joshua led the Israelites into the land of Canaan the Levites were the only Israelite tribe that received cities but were not allowed to be landowners, because "the Lord God of Israel is their inheritance, as he said to them". Hebrews 7:11;Joshua 13:33. The levitical priesthood was the order set in place by God and was followed and operated by the Jews from the inception of the priesthood in Exodus 28:1 Why was the tribe of Levi chosen for the priesthood? 1. During the Exodus, the Levite tribe were particularly zealous in protecting the Mosaic law in the face of those worshiping the golden calf, which may have been a reason for their priestly status. This means that they earned the priesthood by their zeal. Exodus 32:26-28 2. More importantly was that Levi was in Abraham's loins when he paid tithe to Melchisedec. This means that Levi was secured for the service of the LORD and receiving of tithes by Abraham. Hebrews 7:9-10. Although Levi earned the priesthood by zeal and tithing in Abraham, Abraham also secured it for Levi by tithing, and this gave rise to an order of priesthood for the tribe of Levi by God, the priesthood could not make man and earth perfect. Therefore, since perfection was God's original plan and intention, to attain it God broke the existing protocol and order for the tribe from which the priest will come. Hebrews 7:12-17 GOD BROKE PROTOCOL AND ORDER TO ACHIEVE PERFECTION, expect God to do same in your life. Grace to you. Jesus is Lord. Previously on Day 10, we learnt that the spirits of just men made perfect constitutes those who were righteous (i.e., the redeemed), and of all ages who have passed into a post-earth state already. They are designated as “spirits” because their bodies are sleeping in earth's bosom, awaiting the day of resurrection (Daniel 12:2; John 5:28-29; Acts 24:15). In Hebrews 11:4-32, the spirits of just men made perfect also known as heroes of faith were listed, and the exploits they accomplished for the Lord here on earth. In this and following lessons, we will study these men so as to understand our part of obedience to play in order to manifest God's perfection. The spirits of just men made perfect - DAVID King David in Psalms 138:8 says, "The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands." This verse reveals that, David had a great knowledge of who God is and what He can do. This knowledge he had of God was what birthed his lifestyle of praises to God. In the same chapter of Psalm, David begins with praises and worship to God (Psalm 138:1,2); and also gave reasons why he praises and worships the LORD (Psalm 138:3,6,7). What are the reasons why for David's praise and worship lifestyle? David's praise and worship lifestyle came from the revelation of who God is, what He can and will do. This is faith! So, David operated in God's faith even though he was in the Old Testament. Here are the revelations; In the day when he cried God answered him, and strengthened him with strength in his soul. God has respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knows afar off. Though he walked in the midst of trouble, God will revive him God shall stretch forth His hand against the wrath of his enemies, and The right hand of God shall save him. On the grounds of these knowledge he praised and worshiped God, and knew that same God who could do all of these for him can perfect all that concerns him. Hence, what did David imply when he said God will perfect all that concerns him? The word Perfect is the Hebrew term גּמר: gâmar which is defined as to end, come to an end, complete, cease, be no more, and to bring to an end. Thus, simply put to perfect means to bring to an end or to complete. So, David in faith was saying that the Lord will; Bring to an end all that concerns me. Complete all that concerns me. This means that there will be no incomplete project in my life and destiny. God who could do other things for me is more that able to end and complete everything he began in my life regardless of the present situations surrounding me and God's work in me. I am and all that concerns me is God's project which he must complete because He never abandons His projects. On the grounds of this understanding I praise and worship God. As believers, we should possess these same understanding in our relationship with God. Grace to you. Jesus is Lord. Among the heroes of faith is one who his exploits were not itemized but their summation was highly recognized. This is the person of Enoch. Enoch was a man of faith although not as we define men of faith in our times. In our times men of faith are men who use their faith to heal the sick, raise the dead, perform miracles, signs and wonders and command some natural and physical results. Although these are good, But they were not what made Enoch a man of faith as revealed in scriptures. The scriptures in Hebrews 11:5 says, "By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God." Hence, Enoch was called a man i.e Hero of faith because he pleased God. This makes us understand that pleasing God is the greatest manifestation and display of faith not miracles signs and wonders. This means that a man who pleases God with seemingly no miracles signs and wonders is a man of faith in God's sight when compared to a man with miracles, signs and wonders who does not please God. This is contrary to our popularized carnal judgement of who a man of faith is of is not. In our times, we judge a man to be a man of faith on the grounds of the results we see not his faithfulness to God, and this has been the greatest undoing in the church. Pleasing God is the highest and greatest operation, manifestation and proof of faith. Hebrews 11:6a says, "But without faith it is impossible to please him:". We learnt in one of our previous lessons that Faith is from and it is totally centered on God not man. This means that God is the only one who determines whether a man is pleasing Him or not i.e living by faith or not. Hinged on this truth, we can conclude that, God gave us His faith for only one purpose which is to please Him. Faith used for any purpose other than pleasing God, is not God's faith but man's faith, and it can lead to any place other than God's heart and abode. Therefore, as believers in Christ our pursuits should not be results, miracles, signs and wonders, our pursuit should be PLEASING GOD. What does it mean to please God? Please is from the Greek word εὐαρεστέω: euaresteō and by definition means to be well pleasing, to be well pleased with a thing or to gratify entirely. Thus, to please God is to; Do things that are well pleasing to Him Be a person that makes God well pleased Gratify God entirely. How can we achieve this? After Enoch, no other human had this recognition of pleasing God in this magnitude again except He who created and enacted the New covenant that is, the person of Jesus. (Study: Matthew 3:17; Matthew 17:5; Mark 1:11; Luke 3:22; 2Peter 1:17). The only way to please God is to perpetually and continuously live, move and walk in Jesus, the beloved of the Father in whom He is well pleased. The scriptures in Acts 17:28a says, "For in him we live, and move, and have our being;" Grace to you. Jesus is Lord. On Day 17, we learnt that there was no formal record of Abraham blessing Isaac his son rather, it was recorded that he gave all he owned to Isaac (read Genesis 25:5). Also, the only record of Isaac receiving blessings can be found in Genesis 25:11, God blessed Isaac. The above facts, helps us understand that Isaac did not have first hand knowledge of how a blessing is given by a father or from his father, even though his father will definitely have blessed him, the words and procedures he used were not spelt out in the Bible. Also, it was not recorded that Abraham blessed Isaac by speaking into his future. For these reasons Isaac blessed his sons by faith. By virtue of the blessing Isaac gave to Jacob and Esau, Jacob saw the effects and manifestations of the blessing in his life. This made him know the importance and potency of the blessing as a result, he ensured that he blessed his children before he died, actually this was what he did before he died. Why was Jacob a man of Faith? Jacob had a lot of twists and turns in his life and these were more than enough to call him a man of faith. But, they were not the basis on which he was called a man of faith. The reason why his father, Isaac, was called a man of faith was the same reason he is called a man of faith, as seen in the Scriptures (read Hebrews 11:21). Therefore, Jacob also blessed when he was dying i.e sick (Genesis 48:1). What was so special about this? The events, twists and turns in Jacob's life and that of his children, could have made it impossible for him to bless his children a while before his sickness and death like Isaac; but, Jacob knew the power and importance of the blessing. So, he blessed when he was sick and dying. Jacob changed an order via the blessing. In Genesis 41:51-52 the names of Joseph's sons in their birth order are stated, "And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God, said he, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house. And the name of the second called he Ephraim: For God hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction." In the account recorded of Jacob in Hebrews, we see that it was only the blessing Jacob gave to Joseph's children that were recorded, this was significant not basically because other blessings were irrelevant. And, not necessarily because of the first son becoming the last incidence that repeated itself in Joseph's family. But, because of the revelation correction that Jacob by understanding and experience, helped his son Joseph to understand via his blessing. (Read the accounts in Genesis 48:14,17,20) According to the meanings of the names and birth of Joseph's sons, we realize that Joseph believed God first made him forget all his toil, and all his father's house before God caused him to be fruitful in the land of his affliction. But, when Jacob blessed the children he changed the order to let Joseph know that it is the other way round. Which is that, God has caused him to be fruitful in the land of affliction that is why he was able to forget all his toil and father's house (which actually he did not forget cause he did feel the pain again when he meet his brothers after long years). Hence, FRUITFULNESS MAKES A MAN FORGET HIS TOIL AND SORROW. This was why the blessing of Jacob was by faith, it was a prophetic revelation of the operations of God. Grace to you. Jesus is Lord. The book of Hebrews chapter 11, details Old Testament heroes who obeyed God, despite not fully understanding the future. This forward-looking trust, based on their experiences with God, is what the book of Hebrews commends as faith that pleases God. Often times, when we talk about the spirit of just men made perfect i.e the heroes of faith, we tend to only think of the male folks and forget that there were females in the list too. Maybe we do this because of our inclination to think that it is a man's world but, God does not think that way. This study is on a woman of faith, she was the first female hero of faith recorded in Hebrews 11, in the person of Sarah, the wife of Abraham. Why was Sarah a woman of Faith? (Hebrews 11:11) Sarah received strength to conceive through faith. This was so because she had long past the age of child bearing. Why did Sarah receive strength through faith? The scripture says, "...because she judged him faithful who had promised." (Hebrews 11:11) Thus, because she judged God faithful, Sarah received strength through faith. What does it mean to judge God faithful? In the Greek, the word Judge is from the term hēgeomai and Thayer defines it as to consider, deem, account, think, and esteem. Also, the word faithful in the Greek is the term πιστός: pistos, and Thayer defines it as trusty, or faithful of persons who show themselves faithful in the transaction of business, the execution of commands, or the discharge of official duties. one who kept his plighted faith, worthy of trust. that can be relied on. From the above definitions to pass judgement on someone or something is: to consider, think, account, esteem, conclude, to deem (to find), to regard as, to bring forth a final verdict. Hence, Sarah regarded the ways of God, considered His faithfulness to her, thought of God's integrity, took account of God's previous acts of love and kindness, concluded that God is committed to the performance of His promises and her final verdict on God was that He is Trustworthy, and can be relied upon to keep to His promises. The faith of Sarah actually rested in His character that He is not a man that He should lie, notwithstanding the happenings around her. This makes us understand that Sarah knew God over time and on the grounds of her long time knowledge of God, she judged Him faithful. Furthermore, to be faithful means having a character that is trustworthy, or someone who is reliable, and one who tells the truth. Also, to be dependable, steadfast in affection and allegiance, firm in adherence to promise or adherence to duty. This means that Sarah was conscious of the Lord's faithfulness, not her own faithfulness, environment and body. In actual fact, Sarah judged God as someone who told the truth. Her receiving the promise had nothing to do with how perfect her process of faith was. If that was the case, then it would give grounds for boasting and Paul says in Romans 3, that the walk of faith cancels out the ability for boasting. Rather, it was simply the fact that she trusted in the character of God that He was not a man that He should lie. Why did Sarah judge God faithful? Sarah judged God faithful because she knew that God cannot deny Himself even if we deny Him. The book of The word deny in 2Timothy 2:13 in the Greek is the term ἀρνέομαι: arneomai and from Thayer definition we realize that Sarah knew that God cannot Contradict Himself. Grace to you. The scripture in the book of Hebrews 7:19, starts with a striking phrase "For the law made nothing perfect,". This phrase is as simple, straight forward and clear as it is. This phrase communicates two (2) vital truths which are; The law is good. Romans 7:12 The law at its best could and can make things very good but it could and cannot make anything perfect. This was the limitation of the law. Hebrews 7:19a What is the Law? Canonically, the Law comprises of the first five (5) books of the Bible which were written by Moses. In application, the Law is actually the Ten (10) Commandments given by God to Moses (read Exodus 20) and other laws developed from the Ten Commandments. The whole body of the law is called the Torah. Why could the law not make anything perfect? The answer to this question is derived from both the creation of the earth and the nature of the Law itself. The law cannot make anything perfect because, it is not perfect. This is due to the truth that after creation, God called everything "very good"(that is, exceeding) but, not perfect as seen in Genesis 1:31. Likewise, the law succeeds and must follow the order of creation. God made the earth very good and put Adam/ Man on it to make it perfect but, Adam failed at this. The failure of the first Adam in the task of making the earth perfect gave rise to the emergence of the Law which came through Moses. Thus, we understand that the law at best can make us function in very good but, cannot make us perfect or function in perfection. Having understood the preceding, we know that the law could not achieve the task that Adam failed at. Due to the failure of the first Adam and the inability of the law, God sent the last Adam in the person of Jesus Christ to achieve this task of making the earth and Man perfect. How did Jesus accomplish this task? Jesus accomplished this task by carrying out two (2) actions as, both Adam and the Law respectively were unable to achieve the task. Hence, Jesus had to do for them what they both could not do. 1. For Adam - Jesus accomplished the task by his death, finished work and resurrection. By this He reconciled all things to God the Father and gave us a perfect life in and through Himself. Romans 5:10; 2Corinthians 5:18. 2. For the Law - This Jesus did by enforcing the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus to set mankind free from the limitations of the law of sin and death which is performance at the maximum of very good. By virtue of the finished work of Christ Jesus, the grace of God became fully operational, thus Grace makes a man function in perfection i.e perfectly. This implies that the new creation in Christ Jesus is not meant to function in very good, because this realm is a limitation to the new creation, no matter how good very good may be, it devalues and reduces the potentials of the new creation. This is because the new creation is created in Christ Jesus to live in and function in perfection which is of Christ Jesus, this perfection manifest as good works. Ephesians 2:10 What is does it mean to be perfect? To be perfect means to complete, add what is yet wanting in order to render a thing full, and to bring to a close or fulfillment by event, this entails the prophecies of the scriptures. Grace to you. Jesus is Lord. In this lesson we will study a hero of faith who achieved a great feat for both God, himself and humanity but it did not entail him calling fire or doing what men may call a spectacular miracle yet what he achieved was great. Hebrews 11:7 Why was Noah a hero of faith? 1.He lived in the dispensation when men where controlled by conscience. Despite the difficulty and seemingly impossibility in living righteous in these times, Noah still lived so righteously that he caught God's attention and he found grace in God's sight. The scripture says "But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD". Genesis 6:8. Standing out from the crowd makes one unique and different and this also attracts the attention of God 2. He was Righteous- The people of Noah's time were so evil that only him could be righteous. It meant that righteousness was almost extinct in his time and God in His righteousness and justice had to extinct these unrighteous generation and leave the righteous before they extinct righteousness. This makes us understand that God always wants to preserve righteousness. 3. He was Obedient- Noah walked with God. Noah didn't just listen to God, he obeyed. He obeyed whatever God told him to do, no matter how difficult it was. God didn't just give him a difficult task to do, it was also a WIERD task but he did it all the same. Hence, the proof of obedience is not in accomplishing seemingly difficult tasks but in accomplishing wierd task. 4. He was a man of Faith - His task needed immense faith to complete. From the very beginning, when he agreed all through to the very end of entering the ark and then even leaving the ark again. This is why Noah is listed in the Hall of Faith in Hebrews 11:7. There is no record of Noah arguing or doubting or asking questions. He simply obeyed because of his faith. 5. He was a Preacher – 2 Peter 2:5 reveals that Noah was a preacher of righteousness. Building the ark certainly gave Noah many opportunities to tell people why he was doing it and the doom that was coming. He likely preached just like many other Old Testament prophets. It is likely that Noah's project was famous. 6. He was Diligent- There are a lot of things Noah would have had to think about and plan for in the course of building the ark. Its not only the actual construction, but also the acquiring of materials, providing for his family during this time period, security from vandalism or theft, getting/purchasing food to stock the ark, creating ways for waste removal and food dispersion, etc. If he neglected any one of these areas, disaster would have been waiting. Noah did it all. He did it well and he didn't slack off. 7. He was Worshipful - After the whole episode was done with, Noah's first recorded action was what? Build and alter and offer a sacrifice to God. He didn't have a bitter or angry heart. He was grateful God spared Him and made this covenant with him. Noah showed his gratitude to God by an act of worship, sacrificing of every clean animal. This was actually quite a sacrifice. There were very few animals at that time and it would have been easy for Noah to rationalize and think that he needed to save them so that they could repopulate the earth. Yet he demonstrated faith in God. He wanted to worship this great God that he had come to know even better. The above seven seemingly unspectacular reasons are the exploits of Noah that enlisted him in the Hall of Fame of the Heroes of Faith. These can be achieved by every follower of Jesus who depends on God's grace in recent times. Grace to you. Jesus is Lord. DAY 9 (MPPF'21) - FAITH MADE PERFECT

GRACELIFE-COMI

The subject of faith is a very vital, crucial and indispensable aspect of the Christian life, infact the christian life is called “The Faith" as seen in Act 6:7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith. Previously, we learnt that strength is a prerequisite and requirement for life, without it one becomes a weak prey for the strong predators, this is because nature thrives by conquest. Although life only recognizes the strong, weakness is inevitable in life. Due to ageing or health issues bodily weakness sets in, due to environmental and other human factors and limitations, weakness in results sets in. Despite the inevitability of weakness God made provision for us to not be preys in life, this provision is His grace which is sufficient and makes strength available for us in weaknesses. Although David lived in the Old Testament, he enjoyed this grace of God that was why he thanked God for not allowing him to be a prey to men (Psalm 124:6) Although this provision was made available to us, we have a responsibility to take it and the only way we can take it is by faith. What is Faith? Faith is believing the unseen/invisible and living in the reality of this unseen/invisible till it becomes a seen physical reality. This means that faith is the converter which coverts spiritual reality blessings in heavenly places into physical blessings. Hebrews 11:1. Without faith it is impossible for us to be made perfect in God, this is because as belivers in and followeres of Jesus Christ we do not use our own faith, the faith we use is God's faith and it takes God's faith to be made perfect. This truth is seen in the original Greek rendering of Mark 11:22: The King James renders And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. But The original Greek renders And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith from God. i. Faith is not actually us believing in God, it is God's complete and absolute belief in Himself availed to us. Faith is all about God not us. ii. Faith is God's inability to deny Himself, that is why He is FaithFul. "If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself". 2Timothy 2:13 iii. Faith is God's inability to lie. "That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us". Hebrews 6:18 iv. Faith is God's commitment to the performance of His word which is His integrity. Matthew 24:35 "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." Mark 13:31; Luke 21:33 This is why faith from God cannot fail. If we must manifest God on earth, the faith from God which belongs to God must be made perfect in our lives. How is faith made perfect? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. James 2:22, 24,26 Answer: Faith is made manifest by works Grace to you. Jesus is Lord. Devon: Panda Island - Invincible “My two greatest passions are Japanese kawaii culture, and music! My bandmate Sam and I always have the best time creating electropop as colourful, fun and sweet as Japanese candy. ‘Invincible’ is one of the first songs I started writing” Panda Island - Sky Kids “‘Sky Kids’ is a song about growing and moving on from the troubles of your past. We hope our music can give people the same feeling of joy we get when we’re creating it.”

The C.L.I.M.B. with Johnny Dwinell and Brent Baxter

Just because you fancy yourself a great writer in one genre, doesn’t necessarily mean that you can easily apply that momentum to writing for another one. Different genre’s have different codes. Brent and Johnny get into some personal stories about to bring humility and awareness when you’re writing for a new genre because the code is different. PS: Listen through to the end to get an opportunity to ask a hit publisher any questions you want with Brent’s “Know the Row” event. This event is free for Frettie members.
