Spikeball Inc release a new roundnet set! In this Episode Scott, Mike & Tops break down the changes it has to the current Spikeball Pro net, Spikeball's purpose with the set, and if it is worth the price point of $300 USD
On this episode Thomas Pshaid (@tops_roundnet) and Gavin cover the topic of streaming in roundnet. With STS Challengers no longer being streamed by Spikeball, we discuss how anyone can set up a basic stream so that people at home can track these events. We then move into mid-level streams which might might use a computer rather than a phone and even how you can set up a scoreboard for your viewers. Later on we discuss the importance of streaming events live, not worrying about the viewership numbers as a new or experienced streamer, playing in events vs streaming them, the major in Toulouse and finally the how streaming could be revolutionized by advanced production teams. We hope you all enjoy!
The boys are back On this episode Scott discusses his recent adventures across Europe, while also discussing what goes into preparing a roundnet clinic, how he creates roundnet drills, and the general lack of coaching in roundnet since HTR slowed down.
In this episode — while Scott was away hosting clinics in London — Mike and Gavin joined to discuss community. Here we label the two ways we believe people experience roundnet community, as upstream and as downstream. The upstream player is working their way to the top and sees community as an opportunity for them to play and enjoy more roundnet. On the other hand the downstream roundnet community member might be more concerned with providing to newer players, making roundet more enjoyable for everyone, and presenting opportunities to those who might not have given roundnet a chance otherwise. Later on we discuss Gavin and Mike's experiences within communities and recent strategies they've implemented to further their own groups.
This week the boys build on a fan favourite episode from season 1 discussing your role and relationship with roundnet. The guys start the episode by openly discussing Mike & Gavin's previous and present relationship with roundnet before discuss new exciting projects and initiatives within roundnet such as The Roundnetwork, Roundnet AI, as well as other projects started in 2023. It's then time for Mike's break where he continues on last weeks topic of team names by testing Gavin and Scott's roundnet history in a little roundnet trivia. The boys then end the show by discussing the individual roles that are so important within the roundnet community and that we can sometimes take for granted, such as streamers, tournament directors, observers, etc. To conclude, you may even resonate with some parts of this episode which may help you better understand your relationship with roundnet and help you see some opportunities where you could become more involved in helping grow this incredible sport.
On episode 7 of the podcast, Mike, Scott, and Gavin take a step back to really look at the progression that roundnet has made over the last couple of years and assess in which direction it is heading, We often hear whispers around the net that the sport is 'broken', but what does that really mean and is the sport really broken at all? To discuss this topic, the guys are joined by top pro player and previous winner & runner up of the Spikeball Championship/National event - Fredric Hinkle! After discussing this topic at length with Fred, the guys then move onto Mike's mid show break before predicting the outcomes of both the first STS Major of the year, alongside the first EURA event of the year, ETS Paris, with both taking place this weekend!
Episode 4 of That Roundnet Podcast! This week Mike, Scott, and Gavin discuss the recent success of squad tournaments such as Worlds, American Spikers League Tournament in Las Vagas, and how we might see more squad-based tournaments in the future. Mike then delivers his Midshow Break by creating a draft of the best 4 sports that translate into roundnet. The show then ends with the boys being welcomed by Alex Hart and Kaleb Wagner to discuss ASL's goals and ambitions while also discussing the success of the Las Vagas event and their plans with ASL in the future!
In this episode, Mike, Scott, and Gavin take a step back and discuss the bigger picture. Will roundnet ever reach its potential...? What are the potential equipment and rule changes needed in order for roundnet to grow and become the sport we all know it can become?
This week, the boys are incredibly excited to bring on Jonah Zwillinger for episode 41 of that roundnet podcast! Jonah has helped take roundnet commentary to the next level and has commentated several major roundnet events this year, including the World Championship, The Championship/Nationals on ESPN, and several STS Majors in the U.S. In this episode, the guys discuss how Jonah started his journey within the world of commentating and what lead him on his path to commentating roundnet. The guys then deep dive into 'What really is roundnet commentary'? Which styles work best for which audiences? What are some of the techniques used to help add to the experience? What will roundnet commentary look like in the future? The guys then end the show with a fun segment called the shoe game, this includes Scott asking both Mike and Jonah the same question with Mike and Jonah having to answer the questions honestly - who is the better roundnet player? Who is more likely to shout 'BANG' live on air? Who is most likely to lose their voice...?
Another off-season episode and there's plenty still to discuss! This week, Mike, Scott, and Gavin discuss potential teams we could see in 2023 while also discussing some teams we would like to see play together. Which two players could team up to try and upset Twinz? Will we see Ryder play any tournaments in 2023? Who will Gabe play next season with? Who would suit Fred and Rahul's playing styles if they are to split in 2023? The guys then end the show talking about what does a perfect roundnet athlete look like? Who are the top players in the game for the big 5 roundnet skill categories of setting, hitting, defence, serving, and serve receive?
This week the guys announce the winners of That Roundnet Podcast Awards of 2022! Mike, Scott, and Gavin chose the nominations, you guys voted for the winners! With each poll receiving between 700-1000+ votes, thank you to everyone who took part! The guys then end the show by continuing the off-season segments with Mike seeking an investment from both Gavin and Scott for his ideas that could change the roundnet world on this week's Spike Tank segment!
The season is over, but the off-season podcasts have just started! We have so many games and segments planned for this off-season and we start with the game we like to call 'Spike-Tank', where we take turns pitching our ideas that we think could completely change the world of roundnet as we know it! From Mega Tripods to a new Groove ball and maybe even a roundnet VR simulator...? Which idea to you like the best? We have postponed the announcements of this year's fun "that roundnet podcast awards" due to Mike's little illness, so will be discussing the results on episode 39 instead!
Welcome to the first-ever That Roundnet Podcast Awards of the Year! This episode is very special and helps conclude the 2022 season and leaves Mike, Scott, and Gavin reminiscing about what an incredible year of roundnet it has been. The boys nominate 2-4 nominees for each of the year's awards and it's up to YOU (the community) to decide who wins each award! Make sure to check it out this Saturday on @thatroundnetpodcast on Instagram to join in the biggest Poll of the year! Who is the best player in the World? Who is the breakout player of the year? What was the best series of 2022? Who is the Mashup king/queen of the year? Who will you vote for?

Now that the season is winding down, Mike, Scott, and Gavin talk very openly about their experiences this year with roundnet as well as their focuses moving forward. Why do you play roundnet? Are you trying to become the best in your friend group, the best in the World, or just the best you can be? Do you enjoy playing roundnet casually or competitively? What do you enjoy more, being on the court or off it? There are so many other things involved in being a part of a growing sport, which things do you enjoy doing the most? For some people it's streaming and commentating, for others, it's organizing events or taking photos, or creating content. All are important for the sport. which do YOU enjoy doing the most?
On the back of roundnet first-ever World Championship Mike, Scott, and Gavin discussed how far the sport has come in recent years and the direction we hope to see it move in, in the coming years. To discuss this topic the guys invited a true OG of the sport, a current spikeball employee, and most recently even a coach for Team USA in Belgium - Mr. Skyler Boles! If you like hearing some crazy rules during the early stages of the sport to discussing the new proposed 'elite' set that spikeball are currently working on, you will for sure enjoy this episode.
This week Mike, Scott & Gavin decide to break down the season's events so far, discussing the evolution of players' abilities and specific skills such as serve receive & defence, while also talking about a handful of other topics in this jam-packed podcast episode. Alongside this season's events, the boys also discuss roundnet commentary and what makes good commentary, sponsorship within roundnet - (how far away are we from it becoming more common?), as well as Mike's, Scott's, and Gavin's seasons as individuals so far as the guys hit the big milestone of 25 podcast episodes!
Ok, ciao!
Post Produced Roundnet - Potentially one of the biggest things missing in the sport of roundnet. Do we expect people in roundnet to go from watching a reel on social media to watching a full 40-60 minute match? Could the next big thing in roundnet be post-produced tournament recaps so the sport can retain some of the millions that are exposed to the sport through a reel or tiktok on social media? These post produced recaps would help build storylines, build personal and team connections, and help funnel more people into the sport, very similar to how discgolf has done over these past few years through the help of Jomez.
This week Mike, Scott, and Gavin welcome Preston Bies onto the podcast! Have you ever wondered why How To Roundnet was created? Where do you think the sport of roundnet would be without it? In this podcast, the guys also discuss the importance of clinics, coaching, and the mindset needed for dramatic improvement
Sometimes we all have tournaments where we don't perform to the level we wanted, or get the result we were after, how do you react to one of these experiences? Along with the topic of dealing with defeat, Mike, Scott, and Gavin also talked about the most recent STS challenger in Atlanta, GA, where there were plenty of things to talk about such as Bazinga's breakout tournament and Kickstart reclaiming the top spot in the women division! The guys end the podcast talking about the topic of video referee reviews in roundnet, what are the pros and cons of such an idea? Is roundnet ready for it?
Today we chat with two new friends (Ming & Ace) about Roundnet/spikeball culture in Taiwan and starting a new club in Taichung. Tom is not here this episode :(, every go say hi to him and tell him to come back! Follow Sunrise Roundnet Club: https://www.instagram.com/sunrise.roundnet/ If you enjoy our podcast please leave a quick review on your podcast app, us, it helps us a lot!
Episode 13, just three guys discussing, laughing, and chatting about their love for roundnet. This week, Mike, Scott, and Gavin talked about 'that roundnet bug', what does this really mean? When did you first fall in love with the sport? What is it that still keeps YOU involved in the sport? In this more laid-back episode, the boys share some funny stories such as Mike's obsession with backyard games, Scott's first international tournament, and Gavin's first time receiving a cut serve...(not too bad right? But, we may have forgotten to mention that the server that day was Fredric Hinkle...)
This week, Mike, Scott, and Gavin are joined by the current number one female player in the world, Olivia Jenki. During this episode, they all discuss Olivia's journey to the top, where the women's roundnet scene is currently, as well as such topics as travel and finances! What did Olivia's path look like to reach the top in women's roundnet? What can we all do to help women's roundnet grow, not only in the US but around the world too? How do so many people have the money to travel to so many tournaments? All these questions, plus some travel tips and hacks are discussed on this week's episode of That Roundnet Podcast!
Part two of a two-episode topic - underrated skills in roundnet ft Clark Marshall In this episode, Mike, Scott, and Gavin are joined by current pro player and Mr consistent himself, Clark Marshall. In this episode, the guys talk about some very underappreciated skills in roundnet such as serve receive, footwork, team chemistry, and communication. How hard is it to practice serve-receive? Is it better to be tall or short for serve receive? How important is team chemistry and communication in roundnet? These questions as well as many more were discussed on this week's podcast!
This episode is sponsored by lefty on two!!! This episode Chase, Burrows, and Dax go over the Orlando tour stop, Round Rock major, and more....
What are some of roundnets most underrated, undervalued, and underappreciated skills? In this episode, Mike, Scott, and Gavin are joined by current pro player and one taller half of assistive touch, and a friendly giant of the roundnet scene, Mr. Clark Marshall. For the majority of this two-part podcast, the guys discuss such skills as setting and defense. What is the perfect set? Is the reason setting is not valued enough is because it's not sexy enough...? The guys also talk in-depth about Clark's defensive success during the 2021 season. Is there a lack of defensive knowledge and content out there in the roundnet community? Will we see more or fewer teams play the styles of Assistive Touch and Knotty or less during the 2022 season?
We are really loving doing these podcasts and with that...we hope you feel the same! This one we were lucky enough to have Clark Marshall join the conversation and share his knowledge :) Hear Ryder geek out on How to Content, ATX recap, tips, which animal is the best at roundnet and much much more! Please please please drop some thoughts in the comments. Forget about those traditional/popular sports! This is an episode all about the up-and-coming athletic opportunities in the area. From UT's Roundnet club, Blake Hurst and Matt Shaver join the podcast to talk about Spikeball in East TN. It's grown from a popular yard game into a legitimate sport, and we're here for all of that! Rugby is a big sport across the globe, but it's just now seeing a rise in popularity around here. We actually host a lot of rugby events on our field, and so far, they've all been with the Smoky Mountain Athletic Club. So, I've got Gabe Woodson from SMAC on this episode to talk about what all they're doing to help promote the sport in Knoxville. And from the House of Sport, Ariana Scroggins joins me to talk about her experience as a Rock Wall teammate. We also talk a lot about a big event we're doing soon with paraclimbing world champion Maureen (Mo) Beck. Also, listen as I give a coupon code that can be used for 20% off of ANY experience at DICK'S House of Sport. HOUSE OF SPORT Podcast is hosted by Casey Beaman. Mike, Scott, and Gavin are joined by current European champion Benny Bachler to discuss the most recent tournament in Europe hosted by roundnet Spain where players from all over Europe came together to showcase their talent against some of the best on the continent as well as against some of the best worldwide with last weeks guest on the pod Mr. Buddy Hammon in attendance. The guys also discuss the true value of defense. Should more people value getting better at defense than serving, why do many people neglect getting better at defense? Should more people elect for safe seconds, especially during pickup given this is one of the few opportunities one gets to actually practice defense? The guys end the pod talking about premier status, how does one really get premier? What even is premier to start with? Is it a measurement of your skill level, or a measurement of how you have performed at roundnet events hosted by Spikeball?
What can we do to help grow the sport we all love? This week, Mike, Scott & Gavin were joined by roundnet legend Buddy Hammon! This week they discuss current revenue streams within the sport of roundnet, such as Buddy's successful program, roundnet clinics, as well as some more potential revenue routes. The guys also discuss the current branding and sponsorship situation within roundnet and what we can do as players to help attract more eyes towards this amazing sport. Are names/surnames as team names a must for the sport to grow? Should more players have personal roundnet accounts? They all end the show discussing which one thing they think could potentially help 'explode' the sport of roundnet...
Close your eyes and imagine the sport at the Olympics - what do you see? This week Mike, Scott & Gavin discuss which potential rule and equipment changes could help grow the sport and make it more viewer-friendly so that it could one day make it to the Olympics. Serving and offense are the problems, how do we find that balance where defensive touches occur more often than aces, but where aces are still part of the game?
