In this episode of “The Journey of My Mother's Son” podcast, Sandy and I talk about our first experience with the Rocky Mountains. We entered Colorado from the east taking US Route 40 out of Kansas.  As we traveled across the Eastern Plains of Colorado and could slowly see the Rocky Mountains growing larger on the horizon, we were all left in awe of the beauty. We spent five days in Colorado Springs, where I had my first book signing for the tour that would have us in Colorado for over a month.  We had a great time in Colorado Springs, but left with a very large list of things that we need to go back to see. After Colorado Springs, we explored the Great Sand Dunes and spent three days in Alamosa before heading to Durango for a little over a week.

Our country's national parks protect a huge variety of landscapes, and today, we're playing in the sand in some of the national parks that feature sand dunes. These unique landforms offer a wide variety of activities, from hiking, saucer-sliding, tranquil sunset watching, and even camping. We share stories of our adventures and misadventures in these incredible public lands. The town is suing the state for $21 million, claiming that it spent a decade trying to hold back the waves with trucked in sand, and that the state's refusal to allow emergency repairs is putting public safety and property at risk. The DEP counters that there is no emergency, and that the proposed work could actually make erosion worse. Turkish-German singer and composer Alev Lenz, who splits time between London and Germany, has had something of a hit tune with “Fall Into Me”, a song used in the series Black Mirror. That song has had a few versions, including one recorded by vocal octet Roomful of Teeth, and another as a work called “Splendid Soldiers.” Her dark (only sometimes) and thoughtful compositions and collaborations are often finding their places in films and limited series, as in the films Im Nachtlicht and Downhill, and the series Dark. Alev Lenz has been something of a serial collaborator, working with sitarist and composer Anoushka Shankar, Lisel (Eliza Bagg), Sand Dunes, synthesist and producer Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, French-Cuban vocal duo Ibeyi, and the aforementioned Roomful of Teeth, to name a few. During the interview, Lenz describes her creative process, and when the words might come in, and shares her experiences in the world of “sync”, when composers license their music to film and streaming series. Full Hour | In today's second hour, Dom leads off by offering his take on the news revealed in the Twitter Files released by new owner Elon Musk. Dom tells what Bari Weiss has discovered, telling that the ‘shadow ban' that previous execs would scoff at as ‘fake news' was indeed real. Dom explains the damaging nature of such a revelation, explaining why this goes much deeper than just censorship. Then, Dom tells about a fight brewing between North Wildwood and the State of New Jersey after North Wildwood officials enabled work on their dunes against the wishes of the State. Dom reflects on last summer's dune situation in North Wildwood, complaining that at one point they seemed to be over 10 feet. Then, Dom welcomes in media critic Scott Cronick back onto the Dom Giordano Program to get what's worth watching this holiday season in both television and film.
