Vladimir Caamano and Hollie Harper visit Friends and discuss what it means to have Queen behavior in tense moments and more with host Marina Franklin. Vladimir Caamano - With the name “Vladimir,” few people expect a Dominican from The Bronx to take the stage. His comedic style is the fruit of an immigrant Dominican family living in the cultural mecca that is New York City and is described as an elegant combination of urban grit and intellect. He began polishing his wit in the concrete jungles of The Bronx and Washington Heights and after graduating from Wesleyan University launched into Stand Up Comedy. After his stand out performance at Just for Laughs (JFL) in 2015, Vlad entered into a put pilot development deal to co-write, and star in a pilot based off of his comedy for NBC with Bill Lawrence and WB supervising. Vlad co-wrote the script with UNDATEABLE writer, Adam Styzikiel and recently shot the pilot directed by Phill Lewis. Vlad was the only one of his New Faces class to be chosen to perform as part of the CW Gala hosted by Howie Mandel. In 2016, Vlad was named one of the Top 10 Comics to Watch by Variety and was honored at JFL. In 2017 Vlad made his late-night standup debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and performed again at the prestigious Just for Laughs Gala hosted by Lilly Singh. I am joined this week by a special friend of mine, the Queen herself, Amanda Dieli. Amanda is an award-winning Brooklyn-based actor, writer, and comedian. She holds a BFA in Acting from the University of Southern California, and a Graduate Certification in Television Writing from the University of California, Los Angeles and has studied screenwriting at Columbia University. She has trained professionally with The School at Steppenwolf in Chicago, Upright Citizens Brigade, and LABryinth in NYC, and at NYU in their Florence, Italy campus. She is a veteran sketch and improve performer of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. And most notably, in 2012, she had a scene with Sigourney Weaver in a pilot. She's a proud member of SAG-AFTRA. I'm excited to have her on today and talk about her experiences as master of all trades artist from tv writing, sketch comedy and improv, acting and, notably, how to produce your own work – from the pros and cons to the hardships and joys of it. Fun fact: she is avid lover of Halloween novelty music. She created, wrote and produced her first short series, 18 Grand: A Personal Space Odyssey, which had its world premiere at NYC Web Fest in 2018 where it took the top prize of Best web Series, later appearing in several other festivals in 2019. You can check out the webseries at the link below. She also performed in Under the Radar in 2015 at The Orpheus Variations, a piece she also co-wrote with The Deconstructive Theatre Project. Amanda and I met at UCLA and trained professionally together in our time and oversaw the development of several spec scripts and TV pilots together. Besides being a Reference Queen, she is one of the most caring and excellent advice-giving people I have ever met and we are excited for her to spill her Hollywood Chai. --- Follow us on Instagram: @thehollywoodchai and Twitter: @ChaiHollywood Check out Amanda Dieli on her official website: http://www.amanda-dieli.com/ Amanda's Award-Winning Webseries can be seen here: https://www.footprint.tv/series/18-grand-206154 --- This episode is sponsored by: Anchor - for all your Podcasting needs Dalia Web Design - for all your website designing needs and maintenance: http://www.daliawebdesign.com/ ZENA Creations - for customizable gifts, merchandise and whatever you need: https://www.instagram.com/zena.creation DrafTees, Inc. - for all your writer t-shirt needs, follow on instagram and twitter @drafteesinc The Script Doctors - a sister podcast where we fix scripts on air! Two young nurses, just off the plane from the Philippines, arrive at a rural hospital in Arborfield, Saskatchewan – population 300. No one can tell the two nurses apart; including the dim-witted lab technician at the hospital who falls in love with one of them but accidentally courts both. Homesickness, unfamiliar customs, and amorous advances complicate the women’s lives.A culture-clashing comedy of errors with heart, PRAIRIE NURSE was inspired by the playwright’s mother and the legacy she and others with similar experiences have contributed to the fabric of Canada.PRAIRIENURSE Written by Marie Beath Badian | Directed by Sue Miner Featuring Layne Coleman, Belinda Corpuz, Mark Crawford, Catherine Fitch, Janelle Hanna, Isabel Kanaan, Matt Shaw Set Design by Jung-Hye Kim | Costume Design by Anna Treusch Lighting Design by Jareth Li | Sound Design by Lyon Smith Factory MainspaceApril 21 – May 13, 2018For More Info and to Connect with Factory: factorytheatre.ca Twitter: @FactoryToronto Facebook: @FactoryTheatreTO

Welcome back to Nothing Shines Like Dirt First Feature Series episode 23. Today we have writer/director Natasha Kermani. We have a fabulous conversation about the sensory experience of her film Imitation Girl, island hopping through the stages of filmmaking, and a special announcement to your ego,”Grow up, you BABY!” “It’s not enough to just make a great film, you have to really go the whole way through. And especially today, when you not making a studio picture, you have to have a mind for it. You have to have a mind for every step of the business because no one’s gonna hold your hand, like everybody just could not care less about whether or not your film gets to where you want it to.” Natasha Kermani is a Brooklyn based writer and director, and co-founder of independent production company, Illium Pictures. Her credits includes feature films Imitation Girl, starring Lauren Ashley Carter, and Shattered, starring veteran actor Ray Wise. Short form work includes Lewis Black’s The Mentors (for which she won Best Director at the NYC Web Fest), the LAIFF award-winning comedy Pole, starring Stefanie Woodburn, and commercial work for clients including Microsoft, Nike, Redken, Vision Research, Pepsi, Bud Lite and Open Road Integrated Media. A graduate of NYU’s Film & Television Program, Natasha has spoken at the Chesapeake Film Festival’s Women in Film event, and is a regular panelist at NYU’s Production Lab, Reel Talk. Outside film and television, Natasha is an enthusiastic member of the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music’s Community Orchestra, whose profits go towards fostering music programs in underserved area schools. Natasha’s Iranian-American heritage, her interest in the female identity, and her love of music all converge in her work, a lyrical exploration of how we, and others, define ourselves.
