The Ultimate Leap Of Faith Sister Monica Clare Releases The Book Change Of Habit

In 2021, Sister Monica Clare went viral on TikTok. From the account @nunsenseforthepeople, her video about a wild turkey that was menacing the grounds of the convent struck a chord and unexpectedly launched a following more than 200k people eager to learn more about the practical and spiritual lives of contemporary nuns. #NunTok was born, spurring both sincere conversations about prayer and a relentless, tongue-in-cheek campaign for Sister Monica Clare to unveil her skincare routine.Today, Sister Monica Clare is an Episcopal nun and the sister Superior at the Community of St. John the Baptist in Mendham, New Jersey; but as she relates in her forthcoming memoir, A CHANGE OF HABIT: Leaving Behind My Husband, Career, and Everything I Owned to Become a Nun (Crown & Sugar23; April 29, 2025), her path to the spiritual life was long, winding, and entirely relatable.Growing up in a chaotic and impoverished home in Georgia, Claudette Powell's (Sister Monica's lay name) childhood was spent escaping bill collectors and her unreliable father's abuse. As a little girl, she saw Audrey Hepburn in A Nun's Story and thought, that's me. She found herself drawn to the beauty and ritual of the church, wishing that her life could be filled with such orderliness and belonging.Yet for most of her life, Claudette pushed this spiritual calling away. Instead, she poured her energy into her many talents, trying to become someone worthy of the acceptance she longed for deeply: from acting school at NYU, to performing comedy with The Groundlings Sunday Company and a Hollywood career in film advertising, to her marriage. And yet, she never could seem to find someplace she felt she belonged. In the wake of a devastating divorce, Claudette found herself seriously considering a life in the church. After a decade of therapy, discernment, and paying off her debts, Sister Monica Clare finally stood nervously straightening her habit as she walked into an Episcopal convent, preparing to live alongside eleven other sisters who'd taken the same vow of poverty and celibacy. But joining the community was only the first step, thriving in monastic life would be another challenge altogether. Whether it was getting lost in the maze-like convent, speaking at the wrong time, or messing up the intricate rituals in service, Sister Monica Clare couldn't shake the anxiety and imposter syndrome that had dogged her whole life. In fact, she discovered that the learning curve can be extra steep when doing something you love. Yet through faith and patience, Sister Monica began to feel at home at the convent, first clumsily and then more easily, finding family within her fellow sisters and eventually rising to the head role of Sister Superior.Equally funny and inspiring, A CHANGE OF HABIT reveals how much better life can be when we stop trying to prove our worth to ourselves and others, and instead embrace ourselves for who truly are. A meditation on hope and belonging, A CHANGE OF HABIT is a beautiful encapsulation of faith in the modern world and the tangible ways in which we can embrace spirituality and connection in our lives.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Shoot us a Text.Welcome to Wednesday as we dive into Ford's CFO's concerns over rising inventories, an EV charging joint venture's plans, and Starbucks' surprising venture into the film industry with the launch of Starbucks Studios. Ford CFO John Lawler expressed concerns about rising inventory levels across the automotive industry, emphasizing the need for careful monitoring of supply and demand.Lawler aims for dealers to carry 50 to 60 days' supply. He said excess supply could hurt pricing, though Ford hasn't yet been affected."It worries me that the stocks are building," Lawler said. "One of the pitfalls you can run into, if you're pushing product out there that isn't necessarily what the consumer wants, it's really tough to move. Within Ford we call those ones with pink polka dots; not specced right. It hasn't been a contagion on us yet, we're still seeing strength, primarily because much of our product is new."Industry average days' supply reached 76 at the start of May.Lawler is transitioning to vice chair next year, focusing on strategic initiatives.Sherry House will replace him as CFO, bringing extensive experience from Lucid, Waymo, and General Motors.Ionna, an EV charging joint venture by seven U.S. automakers (BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis) has announced its headquarters will be in Durham, N.C., and is expanding its leadership team to support its ambitious goals including former leaders from EV Connect, Rivian, Lucid. Headquarters in Durham, N.C., with a central lab connecting to interoperability and customer experience centers.Plans to install over 30,000 chargers by 2030 which is about 6000 per year. As a note, the most chargers that charging infrastructure leader Tesla has installed per year is 4000 to dateThe network will support both NACS and CCS connectors. Each station will include amenities such as restrooms, food service, and retail stores."The network in the U.S., if you compare it to other parts of the world, clearly needs work," Stamatti said. "It needs Ionna, and it needs more Ionnas."Starbucks has announced the launch of Starbucks Studios, marking its entry into the film industry as it follows a trend of brands venturing into production. Christy Cain, the vice president of brand and partnerships marketing at Starbuck emphasised in a statement that Starbucks Studios is focused on producing content that fosters human connection and joyStarbucks is partnering with Sugar23, founded by Academy Award-winning producer Michael Sugar who said: “Storytelling is deeply ingrained in what Starbucks does, and Starbucks Studios is a natural extension of these efforts. Together, we will harness the power of storytelling to foster connections, inspire change, and build a stronger sense of community. It's Die Hard in a political thriller! This time Phil and Liam dig into the IRA-themed action movie PATRIOT GAMES (1992), the Jack Ryan sequel that Die Hard director John McTiernan was originally supposed to make with Alec Baldwin in the lead role. But fate – and Harrison Ford – had other ideas! While this expansive, globe-trotting political thriller may not bare much resemblance to Die Hard on face value, there's still a surprisingly high amount of ‘Die Hard DNA' for the boys to examine with their movie microscopes. This pulsating Paramount picture is also notable for being one of the first mainstream Hollywood action movies to tackle complex and contemporaneous political events: the troubles in Ireland. It's a particularly important episode for Liam, who has a deep and long-standing connection to this movie and its iconic leading man, Harrison Ford - whose acting style and body of work is discussed in significant detail. The film's stellar supporting cast - that includes such luminaries as Anne Archer, Sean Bean, Thora Birch, Samuel L. Jackson and James Earl Jones - also gives the guys plenty to chew over, along with the dense literary source material, i.e. Tom Clancy's 1987 novel of the same name. But despite the heavy subject matter, there's still plenty of opportunity for games of a more light-hearted nature. As always, the show culminates with the ‘Die Hard Oscars' and the ‘Double Jeopardy' trivia quiz, which now also features the ever-popular ‘Convoluted Corner'! It's DIE HARD in a hospital! This time, Phil and Liam team up to investigate HARD BOILED (1992), John Woo's operatic action extravaganza starring legendary actors Chow Yun-fat and Tony Leung, as two very different Hong Kong cops who join forces to take down a ruthless arms dealer. It's a film that's often compared to DIE HARD…but does it actually surpass it? Is this actually the greatest action film of all time? The boys debate these controversial questions, while breaking down the various astonishing action sequences that Woo somehow captured in this utterly spectacular 'bullet ballet.' They also discuss the film's many poetic flourishes, the deceptively deep thematic underpinnings, the soulful tone, the supercool style, and the fabulous supporting cast. Passions and emotions run high in this one! As always there's the ‘ DIE HARD Oscars' to look forward to, and an entertaining round of the ‘Double Jeopardy' trivia quiz completes the proceedings. It's DIE HARD in an L.A. Noir! The mismatched duo of Phil and Liam begin a serpentine investigation into THE LAST BOY SCOUT (1991), the ultraviolent private eye picture that combined the talents of multiple action movie icons: star Bruce Willis, director Tony Scott, producer Joel Silver and screenwriter Shane Black. As well as being a buddy movie, this brutal, bruising film also fits into the grand tradition of film noir, and specifically L.A. noir, a subgenre within a subgenre that Phil and Liam are both big fans of. The boys debate whether Joe Hallenbeck is the greatest character Bruce Willis created (John McClane included), how Damon Wayans keeps an unlikeable character likeable, if Milo (Taylor Negron) is the best henchman in the history of action cinema, and what this film is really saying about the sport of football. They praise the performances of Chelsea Field and Halle Berry amidst the mire of meanspirited machismo, and marvel at Shane Black's incredible skill with characterization, plot, and dialogue, while sharing their mutual love of Tony Scott and his extraordinary body of work. The ‘Die Hard Oscars' are as hotly contested as ever and the ‘Double Jeopardy' trivia quiz unearths some fascinating facts. This episode is dedicated to the memory of the late, great Tony Scott. Not only is this Joel Silver production positively overflowing with ‘Die Hard DNA', it also takes place in the same extended cinematic universe (ECU) as Die Hard itself! But as well as its many Die Hard connections, this intense, provocative and controversial picture also provides plenty of meat for the boys to chew over on its own terms. Is it just a lurid slice of pulp fiction that's bereft of any real substance? Or is it an exceptional example of ‘vulgar auteurism' at its zenith? The boys try to litigate, reach a verdict and pass sentence…but this is one case that may be settled out of court! The movie's decidedly crude language makes this week's Die Hard Oscars a NSFW affair, and the ‘Double Jeopardy' quiz offers up some typically titillating trivia! It's DIE HARD in a prep school! This time Liam and Phil play with TOY SOLDIERS (1991), the fondly remembered teen action-adventure movie starring Sean Astin and Wil Wheaton as unruly prep school students who fight back against marauding Colombian terrorists. This is a hugely important movie historically, especially in the context of this podcast, as it was the very first ‘Die Hard on a Blank' film outside of the direct Die Hard sequels. The boys illuminate the monumental amount of ‘Die Hard DNA' contained in the film, from the very obvious to the very subtle, and Liam posits a fascinating theory about the movie's underlying themes, while Phil rhapsodizes about the great Louis Gossett, Jr. As always there's some tricky trivia questions to contend with for eager students of the action genre, as well as the always entertaining ‘Die Hard Oscars'. So pack some yoghurt in your lunchbox and give it a listen – or you'll end up on pots and pans! It's DIE HARD on a train! This time Phil and Liam discuss NARROW MARGIN (1990), Peter Hyams' highly underrated action-thriller remake starring Gene Hackman and Anne Archer. They talk about the differences and similarities to the original 1952 film noir, the Hitchcockian echoes, and the myriad of subtle Die Hard influences upon this highly suspenseful picture, that earns its place among a grand tradition of train movies. The lads also talk about their affection for the stellar supporting cast, including the two Walshes (M. Emmet and J.T. respectively), Harris Yulin, and James B. Sikking, as well as the ways that this film influenced subsequent action movies such as SPEED, UNDER SIEGE 2: DARK TERRITORY (Eric Bogosian forever) and UNSTOPPABLE. Greetings, ghouls, and get ready for a little tension and suspense. Candace and Ariel are back from the beach, still relatively young, and are talking to comics and tv writer Pornsak Pichetshote about the horror comics that freaked us out the most, film criticism as a defense mechanism, and of course our double feature. Today we've got two variations on the home invasion genre - Green Room (2015), and Funny Games (1997 and 2007 because we accidentally watched two different versions lol oops). Stick around for discussion of so-called “elevated” horror, analysis of punchable faces, a performance “devoid of camp,” more reviews from fake Roger Ebert, and one (1) shocking confession from Ariel. One or more of these movies may get on your nerves, but hey, buy the ticket, take the ride, right? You're in good hands with us, we promise. Pornsak Pichetshote is a Thai-American writer of comics and TV. His comic book series INFIDEL has been listed on NPR's Best Horror Stories of all Time, featured on 20+ Best of the Year lists (including NPR, Barnes & Noble, Huffington Post & The Hollywood Reporter) and optioned for a feature film by Sugar23 and Tristar Pictures. His new book THE GOOD ASIAN has launched to industry acclaim. As a TV writer, his work includes Marvel's Cloak & Dagger, Two Sentence Horror Stories, and Light as a Feather.
